AB - Polypropylene (PP) is widely used in the medical industry to produce syringes, vials, and numerous other singleuse biopharmaceutical devices. The need to sterilize these products has led to intensive use of high-energy radiation, even though PP is known to undergo excessive oxidative degradation and deterioration in properties upon irradiation in air. In recent years, a shortage in 60Co supply, as a main source for gamma sterilization, is pushing radiation sterilization of polymeric medical products to electron beam (EB) and/or X-ray modalities as preferable. Some questions related to the equivalence of these methods remain open and are mostly related to changes in the material structure caused by different types of radiation and processing conditions, such as dose rates. This research compares electron beam and gamma irradiation modalities employed on the low crystalline (quenched) PP. In the case of EB irradiation, the typical dose rates are on the order of 104 kGy/h, while in the case of gamma radiation dose rates are lower for three or more orders of magnitude. Since gamma irradiation covers a wide range of dose rates, the difference between samples gamma irradiated with relatively fast (8 kGy/ h) and slow (0.08 kGy/h) dose rates was also analyzed in detail. Comparative investigation of crystallinity, oxidative degradation, thermal, dielectric, and mechanical properties provide a clearer picture of the impact of different modalities and dose rates on mesomorphic PP and are of interest in the practical application of ionizing radiation in the sterilization of PP-based medical devices.

AB - This research focuses on heavy-duty vehicles intended to transport compressed natural gases, i.e., class-2 dangerous goods. The analysis includes heavy-duty vehicles powered by diesel and compressed natural gas and trailers with two body types. The body types used in the research are battery bodies and multiple-element gas containers, with pressure vessels made of composite materials (Type-4) and steel (Type-1). The paper presents the methodological procedure for predicting fuel and exhaust gas emission costs as a function of fuel consumption and transported gas quantities. The effects of different types of bodies and different types of fuel on the transported quantities of gas, vehicle mass utilization, fuel consumption, and exhaust gas emissions are shown. The obtained results show that bodies with Type-4 pressure vessels transport 44% more gas than bodies with Type-1 pressure vessels for one turn. The most cost-effective solution for emission costs is diesel-powered, newer-technology vehicles and Type-4 vessels, requiring EUR 2.82 per ton of gas. Similarly, the most economical choice for fuel costs is compressed natural-gas-powered vehicles with Type-4 bodies and a cost of EUR 19.77 per ton of gas. The research results’ practical application pertains to the selection procedures of vehicles and bodies intended for the transport of gases; they should be considered in the decision-making process, with the aim of attaining a sustainable transport sector with lower costs and less impact on the environment.

AB - The paper surveys two companies that have homogeneous fleets for the transport of dangerous goods. The observed companies use fleets of various propulsion, conventional diesel fuel and compressed natural gas to carry out the transport process, and strive to ensure greater reliability and availability of vehicles at the lowest possible cost of preventive maintenance. In that sense, the role of preventive maintenance of fleets with different propulsion, diesel and compressed natural gas is analysed, and differences in terms of construction and operational characteristics of vehicles, procedures and costs of preventive maintenance are presented. Fleet managers must take into account environmental impacts, requirements and regulations defined in the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Good by Road when managing the operation and maintenance of vehicle fleet in the road transport of dangerous goods. The conducted research shows that vehicles with compressed natural gas drive achieve certain advantages in terms of preventive maintenance in relation to conventional diesel vehicles and can be successfully used in road transport of dangerous goods.

dangerous goods using contemporary information systems
for the sake of energy efficiency increase are presented. The prerequisite condition for
optimal utilization of available vehicle fleet and improvement of their operational activities
in the domain of road transport of dangerous goods is using sophisticated information
systems. Compatibility database presented in this paper, as the central and most significant
part of the information system, enables and simplifies the first important task in that manner
i.e. obtaining the detailed list of dangerous goods that can be transported in the vehicle
intended. Besides that, the analysis of the effects of vehicle constructional features variation
onto the mentioned list of dangerous goods allowed for transport can be conducted as well.
The information obtained from the compatibility database in conjunction with the
geographical information system provides the optimal solution to the transport routes.

AB - In this paper, some results concerning the evolution of the fluid flow pattern and flame propagation of various fuels in a particular combustion chamber with four tilted valves were elucidated. Flame propagation was represented by the evolution of spatial distribution of temperature in various cutplanes within combustion chamber. Flame front location was determined in the zones with maximum temperature gradient. All results were obtained by dint of multidimensional modeling of reactive flows in arbitrary geometry of IC engine combustion chamber with moving boundaries. The above mentioned results were analysed and presented for two different hydrocarbon fuels such as gasoline and methane and one alchocol based fuel such as ethanol. The results for all three fules considered were obtained by dint of eddy-viscosity model i.e. with standard k-ε model of turbulence. The interplay between fluid flow pattern and flame propagation is entirely invariant as regards fuel variation indicating that flame propagation through unburnet mixture considered fuels is not chemically controlled but controlled by dint of turbulent diffusion.

AB - The combination of rupture (bursting) disc and safety valve ensures reliable operation of the valve and overload protection of pressure installations, such as steam generators, chambers, pipelines, and pressure vessels. Certain guidelines for designing and testing safety devices with a bursting disk exist in the literature, but the design of the disc can only be determined experimentally. This paper presents the results of testing of the disc design intended for the use on the IC engine exhaust gass conditioning chamber. It is required that the burst pressure of the disc membrane at a temperature of 950°C has to be 1.05 MPa. A total of 75 samples, of different thicknesses and depths of the disk weakening, at different temperature loads, were examined. AB - Road transport is the significant and inevitable part of the modern society. Its accelerated expansion is recognized as one of the causes for the increased air pollutant emissions (CO, NOx, NMVOC, PM2.5, and CO2). Therefore, the priorities of the future development of heavy-duty vehicles and their equipment are the reduction of the fuel consumption and reduction of the exhaust gases emissions. In this paper, the monitored emissions of heavy-duty vehicles of various technologies, that use diesel as fuel, have been analyzed by using the COPERT program. The analysis shows that Euro 5 vehicles emit 29% less harmful substances compared with Euro 3 vehicles.

Glasnik RS”, br. 37/2013 I 87/2015).

AB - The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and Regulations on Technical Requirements for Designing, Manufacturing and Conformity Assessment of Pressure Equipment bring a number of changes to the design of pressure equipment in relation to the Technical Regulations for Stable Pressure Vessels, 1983. Among the most important changes are the essential safety requirements for pressure equipment. The changes in the formula, for all materials, for calculating the allowable stresses, as well as the change in the value of the test pressure, the new Regulations use the 1.0% proof strength as the relevant value for calculating the permissible membrane stress and thickness of pressure equipment walls. In this paper, the differences in the allowable stresses, the required wall thicknesses, and the approximate savings in the material in the case of a milk reservoir, calculated according to the requirements of the Directive and the new Regulations on one hand, and the old Regulations on the other, are presented. © 2018 The Author.
