Monte Carlo calculation for the geometrical efficiency of a multi-detector system for heavy ion reaction products
Abstract
The Monte Carlo method is employed to calculate the geometrical efficiency of a multi-detector system for fragments produced in heavy ion reactions. This efficiency is defined as a quotient of the number of fragments intercepted by the system and the total number of fragments emitted by the fissioning nucleus in all directions. The multi-detector system consists of six parallel-plate avalanche counters in a hexagonal configuration around the target. Its geometrical efficiency was calculated with respect to the Ar-36 + U-238 reaction at a 7 MeV/u projectile energy.
