Antimicrobial activities of nanomaterials in wastewater treatment: A case study of graphene-based nanomaterials
Апстракт
The application of nanomaterials in wastewater treatment offers the possibility of developing a new generation of sustainable approaches for water disinfection. Between different nanomaterials, graphene-based nanomaterials show great potential considering that they have antibacterial effects, significant chemical inertness, as well as physical stability. In this chapter, the structure and properties of graphene and related materials are first discussed. Then, the mechanisms of antibacterial action of graphene-based nanomaterials are briefly presented. In the following part of the chapter, the possibilities of using these materials in water disinfection are explored. Additionally, antimicrobial activities of complex materials based on graphene are reviewed, as well as devices or products for removing bacterial cells from wastewater. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.
