Recycled Poly(ethylene Terephthalate) Based-Plasticizer for PVC Regranulates Production

AB  - Due to the increasing use and widespread of plastics, poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) are becoming one of the major threats to the environment. The aim of this paper is obtaining plasticizers from recycled PET, and hot/cold mixing thereof with PVC to produce new materials. Plasticizer was obtained from PET using ethylene glycol (EG) in the presence of catalyst FASCAT 4100, followed by treatment with maleic anhydride and finally 2-ethylhexanol (2-EtHex). The obtained glycolysate and plasticizer, individually or mixtures thereof, were used for the production of polygranulates based on waste PVC in order to obtain an expanded mass of homogenized PVC with glycolysate/plasticizer. The abovementioned procedures and test results for the regranulates and products indicate that the proposed technology offers a solution to the problem of waste PET and PVC through transesterification in order to obtain plasticizer based on PET and EG, called 2-EtHex/MA/РG/PET/EG/MA/2-EtHex used in the processing of PVC waste and in regranulate. The obtained regranulates are further processed by injection molding or extrusion into commercial products such as slippers, footwear, boots, garden hoses, mats, floor mats, etc.

AB  - The study of Cu(II) from aqueous solutions using the adsorption process on synthetically modified geopolymers was performed under static conditions. Three geopolymers (based on metaphase of Serbian clay, metaphase of German clay and metaphase of German clay plus 10% of carbon cloth) were used. The geopolymers were made by condensing a mixture of metaphases and alkali activator solution at a fixed ratio at room temperature and then at a temperature of 60 °C in a dry oven. Then, the geopolymer samples were pre-crashed to a fixed-radius size. Their properties were characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform (DRIFT) analysis and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). Adsorption experiments were carried out under batch process as a function of the dose, concentration of metal, and contact time. The uptake of Cu(II) was rapid, and it increased with increasing metal concentration. The sorption percentage decreased with increasing concentration of Cu(II). The equilibrium adsorption capacity of geopolymers was measured and extrapolated using more isotherms. The data fit very well the linear Langmuir isotherm model. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model can well describe the adsorption behavior of Cu(II) ions with geopolymers samples. These results show that used geopolymers hold great potential to remove Cu(II) from industrial wastewater.

AB  - Presented study describes the optimization method of an HPGe detector through implementation of Geant4 toolkit. The optimized model was verified through comparison with experimentally obtained data using a set of point-like radioactive calibration sources. Acquired results displayed good agreement with the experimental data that falls under an average relative deviation of the order of ~ 2% within the energy range of 53–1836 keV. Additionally, in order to test the validity of the code it was also applied to a different detection equipment where an average relative deviation of the order of ~ 1.8% was achieved within the energy range of 121–1112 keV. © 2023, Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

AB  - Partial cation substitution can significantly change the physical properties of parent compounds. By controlling the chemical composition and knowing the mutual relationship between composition and physical properties, it is possible to tailor the properties of materials to those that are superior for desired technological application. Using the polyol synthesis procedure, a series of yttrium-substituted iron oxide nanoconstructs, γ-Fe2−xYxO3 (YIONs), was prepared. It was found that Y3+ could substitute Fe3+ in the crystal structures of maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) up to a limited concentration of ~1.5% (γ-Fe1.969Y0.031O3). Analysis of TEM micrographs showed that crystallites or particles were aggregated in flower-like structures with diameters from 53.7 ± 6.2 nm to 97.3 ± 37.0 nm, depending on yttrium concentration. To be investigated for potential applications as magnetic hyperthermia agents, YIONs were tested twice: their heating efficiency was tested and their toxicity was investigated. The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) values were in the range of 32.6 W/g to 513 W/g and significantly decreased with increased yttrium concentration in the samples. Intrinsic loss power (ILP) for γ-Fe2O3 and γ-Fe1.995Y0.005O3 were ~8–9 nH·m2/Kg, which pointed to their excellent heating efficiency. IC50 values of investigated samples against cancer (HeLa) and normal (MRC-5) cells decreased with increased yttrium concentration and were higher than ~300 μg/mL. The samples of γ-Fe2−xYxO3 did not show a genotoxic effect. The results of toxicity studies show that YIONs are suitable for further in vitro/in vivo studies toward to their potential medical applications, while results of heat generation point to their potential use in magnetic hyperthermia cancer treatment or use as self-heating systems for other technological applications such as catalysis.

AB  - The increase of production and consumption persistently introduce different pollutants into the environment. The constant development and improvement of analytical methods for tracking environmental contaminants are essential. The demand for high sample throughput analysis has hit the spotlight for developing selective sensors to avoid time-consuming sample preparation techniques. In addition, the sensor’s sensitivity should satisfy the rigorous demands of harmful compound tracking. Molecularly imprinted plasmonic-based sensors are excellent candidates to overcome selectivity and sensitivity issues. Molecularly imprinted polymers are robust, stable in aqueous and organic solvents, stable at extreme pHs and temperatures, and include a low-cost synthesis procedure. Combined with plasmonic-based techniques, they are the perspective choice for applications in the field of environmental protection. Plasmonic-based sensors offer a lower limit of detection, a broad linearity range, high sensitivity, and high selectivity compared to other detection techniques. This review outlines the optical plasmonic detection of different environmental contaminants with molecularly imprinted polymers as sensing elements. The main focus is on the environmental pollutants affecting human and animal health, such as pesticides, pharmaceuticals, hormones, microorganisms, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, dyes, and metal particles. Although molecularly imprinted plasmonic-based sensors currently have their application mostly in the biomedical field, we are eager to point them out as a highly prospective solution for many environmental problems.

Results: Largininewas found to be active against SARS-CoV-2 Mpro, while a vitamin C/L-arginine combination had a synergistic antiviral actionagainst Mpro. These findings confirm the results of our previous in silico repurposing study that showed L-arginine and vitamin C werepotential Mpro inhibitors. Moreover, they suggest a possible molecular mechanism to explain the beneficial effect of arginine in COVIDpatients. Conclusions: The findings of the current study are important because they help to identify COVID-19 treatments that areefficient, inexpensive, and have a favorable safety profile. The results of this study also suggest a possible adjuvant nutritional strategyfor COVID-19 that could be used in conjunction with pharmacological agents.

AB  - Electrochemical removal of organic pollutants represents an attractive methodology in water depollution. The key challenges for researchers comprise finding simple, affordable electrode materials with satisfactory efficiency in all ranges of pollutant concentration. Electrochemical oxidation of a mixture of phenol-based dyes: bromocresol green (BCG), cresol red (CR), and thymol blue (TB), in sulphate medium, at total concentration not exceeding 15 ppm, has been performed using simply prepared, low-cost composite electrodes, based on graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) and metallic oxides (TiO2 and SnO2) loaded on stainless steel substrate: GNP@SS, SnO2/GNP@SS, and TiO2/GNP@SS. Electrodes were characterised by XRD, FTIR, and electrochemical techniques. The degradation kinetics of initial dyes was tracked with UPLC and GC-MS chromatography for 6 h, at a current density of 10 mA/cm2. GC-MS analysis of the degradation products revealed oxidised aromatic compounds as the main products, while TOC analysis confirmed a total mineralisation extent in the range of 30–35%. The proposed degradation mechanism involves the attack of OH-radical, as the main oxidising agent, to the hydroxyl oxygens of dye phenolic rings. Obtained results provide useful information for the further development of affordable laboratory-scale and industrial systems for the complete removal of phenol-based compounds.

AB  - The main objective of this study was to estimate the environmental and health risk of the Šar Mountains (Kosovo) for depleted uranium contamination. The risk assessment of the contamination is needed since, in the spring of 1999, conflict with bombarding took place in the territory of the Western Balkans, during which depleted uranium ammunition was used. In Serbia and Montenegro, such tests were performed; based on them, some territories were decontaminated. Šar Mountains is particularly important as it is one of the few water-rich areas in Kosovo. Therefore, soil and water samples were taken from characteristic places in the Šar Mountains aquatorium. Tests of the samples were performed under well-controlled conditions. The measurement uncertainty was less than 5%. Based on the obtained results, it was concluded that there was no contamination of the Šar Mountains with depleted uranium. This conclusion can be extended to the broader area around the Šar Mountains, as it is a safe area surrounded by high mountains.

Two Operational Modes of Cardio-Respiratory Coupling Revealed by Pulse-Respiration Quotient

AB  - Due to the fact that respiratory breath-to-breath and cardiac intervals between two successive R peaks (BBI and RRI, respectively) are not temporally concurrent, in a previous paper, we proposed a method to calculate both the integer and non-integer parts of the pulse respiration quotient (PRQ = BBI/RRI = PRQint + b1 + b2), b1 and b2 being parts of the border RRIs for each BBI. In this work, we study the correlations between BBI and PRQ, as well as those between BBI and mean RRI within each BBI (mRRI), on a group of twenty subjects in four conditions: in supine and standing positions, in combination with spontaneous and slow breathing. Results show that the BBI vs. PRQ correlations are positive; whereas the breathing regime had little or no effect on the linear regression slopes, body posture did. Two types of scatter plots were obtained with the BBI vs. mRRI correlations: one showed points aggregated around the concurrent PRQint lines, while the other showed randomly distributed points. Five out of six of the proposed aggregation measures confirmed the existence of these two cardio-respiratory coupling regimes. We also used b1 to study the positions of R pulses relative to the respiration onsets and showed that they were more synchronous with sympathetic activation. Overall, this method should be used in different pathological states.

AB  - The heavy metals content (HMs) was investigated in 14 different medicinal plants collected
from the three regions in Central Serbia, Zlatar, Sokobanja, and Kopaonik. The concentrations
of Cd, Cr, Ni, Hg and Pb were determined: Cd (<0.03–2.72 mg/kg); Cr (<0.08–12.1 mg/kg); Ni
(<0.08–12.2 mg/kg); Pb (0.6–49.0 mg/kg); the Hg concentration was below the detection limit of
0.06 mg/kg in all samples. The daily intake of HMs due to ingestion of 200 mL of herbal infusion
was in all cases below the recommended limit prescribed by the World Health Organization. The
estimated daily intake values were below the values for the oral reference dose regulated by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (USA EPA). The target hazard quotient and hazard index for Cd,
Cr Ni, and Pb were below 1. Nevertheless, due to the tendency of heavy metals to accumulate in
the organism, attention should be paid to the daily intake of herbal infusion during long-term usage.
Specifically, it is recommended to consume not more than one cup (200 mL) of infusion per day made
from thyme (Mt. Zlatar) and blueberry (Mt. Kopaonik), and not more than two cups per day for
other herbs.

AB  - The formation of the Ti substituted Mg2Ni alloys, a promising hydrogen storage material for various applications is studied in detail. Mg1.95Ti0.05Ni alloy and ribbons are successfully prepared by vacuum arc melting and melt spinning methods. The phases, microstructures, and thermal behavior of the alloys and ribbons are characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, DTA/TG. Sievert-type apparatus is used to study hydrogen sorption properties. Apart from the dominant Mg2Ni phase, the formation of MgNi2, Mg, and Ni3Ti phases is seen in both Mg1·95Ti0·05Ni alloy and ribbons. During the initial three cycles, Mg1·95Ti0·05Ni ribbons showed 2 wt % hydrogen storage capacity. To explain the atomic-scale influence of Ti dopant in the studied alloys and hydrides, FP(L)APW + lo method based on Density Functional Theory (DFT) is applied to Mg2-xTixNi (x = 0.25 and 0.5) alloys and Mg2-xTixNiH4 (x = 0.25 and 0.5) hydrides. An increase in the Ti dopant on the Mg site leads to the hydrides destabilization. Bader's charge density topology analysis provides insight into the charge transfer and bonding between the constituent atoms.

AB  - A novel and effective antibacterial agent based on a combination of copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) and polypyrrole (PPy) is presented. By using a straightforward in situ polymerization method in water, a copper/polypyrrole (Cu/PPy) nanocomposite with spherical CuNPs, around 25 nm in diameter, uniformly dispersed throughout a granular PPy matrix, was characterized and subjected to determination of antibacterial activity toward E. coli, and S. aureus. In this survey, the synergistic engagement of various features of CuNPs and PPy against bacteria was somewhat expected. After a 24 h interaction with S. aureus, already 2 ppm of Cu/PPy with only 9.45 wt% content of Cu is acting almost completely cidal, with 99.17 % bacterial growth inhibition, while 10 ppm has a cidal value of 99.99 % at the same time. Safe and environmentally acceptable concentrations of Cu/PPy indicate that it is convenient as an antibacterial agent for wider use.

AB  - Galectin-3 is encoded by LGALS-3, located in a unique haplotype block in Caucasians. According to the Tagger server, rs4040064, rs11628437, and rs7159490 cover 82% (r2 > 0.8) of the genetic variance of this HapBlock. Our aims were to examine the association of their haplotypes with first myocardial infarction (MI), changes in left ventricular echocardiographic parameters over time, and impact on plasma galectin-3 and LGALS-3 mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, both 6 months post-MI. The study group consisted of 546 MI patients and 323 controls. Gene expression was assessed in 92 patients and plasma galectin-3 in 189 patients. Rs4040064, rs11628437, rs7159490, and LGALS-3 mRNA expression were detected using TaqMan® technology. Plasma galectin-3 concentrations were determined by the ELISA method. We found that the TGC haplotype could have a protective effect against MI (adjusted OR 0.19 [0.05–0.72], p = 0.015) and that the GAC haplotype had significantly higher galectin-3 concentrations (48.3 [37.3–59.4] ng/mL vs. 18.9 [14.5–23.4] ng/mL, p < 0.0001), both in males and compared to the referent haplotype GGC. Higher plasma Gal-3 was also associated with higher NYHA class and systolic dysfunction. Our results suggest that variants tagging LGALS-3 HapBlock could reflect plasma Gal-3 levels 6 months post-MI and may have a potential protective effect against MI in men. Further replication, validation, and functional studies are needed.

Structure of Poincaré plots revealed by their graph analysis and low pass filtering of the RRI time series

AB  - ObjectivesIn order to reveal their structure, Poincaré plots (PP) of electrocardiogram (ECG) RR intervals (RRI) were studied as linear edge planar directed graphs, obtained by connecting all their sequential points. We were also aimed at studying their graph complexity properties.MethodsRRI signals were subjected to a series of different window length (WL) Moving Average Low Pass (MALP) filters. For each filtered graph, four standard PP descriptors: Pearson’s coefficient, SD1, SD2, and SD2/SD1 were calculated, as well as four new graph complexity measures: mean angle between adjacent graph edges; mean number of edge crossings; directional complexity and directional entropy. This approach was applied to signals of twenty young healthy subjects, recorded in four experimental conditions – combination of two body postures (supine and standing) and two breathing regimes (spontaneous and slow 0.1 Hz).ResultsWe found that PP graphs consist of two superimposed components: one originating from Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA) oscillations, the other from slow variations (SV) of the RRI time series. This result was further corroborated by observing the transformation of a PP cloud shape occurring in filtered graphs. When applied to subjects, the outcome was that three measures significantly differentiated the two breathing regimes in the RSA region of the WL domain, while four other measures were able to differentiate two body postures in the SV WL region.DiscussionAfter obtaining these results in healthy, we expect to successfully apply this approach to patients suffering from different pathological conditions.

AB  - Time-integrated optical emission analysis of laser-induced plasma on Teflon is presented. Plasma was induced under atmospheric pressure air using transversely excited atmospheric CO2 laser pulses. Teflon is a C-based polymer that is, among other things, interesting as a substrate for laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy analysis of liquid samples. This study aimed to determine the optimal experimental conditions for obtaining neutral and ionized C spectral lines and C2 and CN molecular band emission suitable for spectrochemical purposes. Evaluation of plasma parameters was done using several spectroscopic techniques. Stark profiles of appropriate C ionic lines were used to determine electron number density. The ratio of the integral intensity of ionic-to-atomic C spectral lines was used to determine the ionization temperature. A spectral emission of C2 Swan and CN violet bands system was used to determine the temperature of the colder, peripheral parts of plasma. We critically analyzed the use of molecular emission bands as a tool for plasma diagnostics and suggested methods for possible improvements.

AB  - To investigate the influence of spinel structure and sintering temperature on the functional properties of BaTiO3/NixZn1−xFe2O4 (x = 0, 0.5, 1), NiFe2O4, ZnFe2O4, and Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 were in situ prepared by thermal decomposition onto BaTiO3 surface from acetylacetonate precursors. As-prepared powders were additionally sintered at 1150 °C and 1300 °C. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used for the detailed examination of phase composition and morphology. The magnetic, dielectric, and ferroelectric properties were investigated. The optimal phase composition in the BaTiO3/NiFe2O4 composite, sintered at 1150 °C, resulted in a wide frequency range stability. Additionally, particular phase composition indicates favorable properties such as low conductivity and ideal-like hysteresis loop behavior. The favorable properties of BaTiO3/NiFe2O4 make this particular composite an ideal material choice for further studies on applications of multi-ferroic devices.

abstract = "To investigate the influence of spinel structure and sintering temperature on the functional properties of BaTiO3/NixZn1−xFe2O4 (x = 0, 0.5, 1), NiFe2O4, ZnFe2O4, and Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 were in situ prepared by thermal decomposition onto BaTiO3 surface from acetylacetonate precursors. As-prepared powders were additionally sintered at 1150 °C and 1300 °C. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used for the detailed examination of phase composition and morphology. The magnetic, dielectric, and ferroelectric properties were investigated. The optimal phase composition in the BaTiO3/NiFe2O4 composite, sintered at 1150 °C, resulted in a wide frequency range stability. Additionally, particular phase composition indicates favorable properties such as low conductivity and ideal-like hysteresis loop behavior. The favorable properties of BaTiO3/NiFe2O4 make this particular composite an ideal material choice for further studies on applications of multi-ferroic devices.",

AB  - In this paper, electrochemical degradation of Reactive Black 5 (RB5) textile azo dye was examined in regard to different synthesis procedures for making PbO2–graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) electrode. The reaction of with ClO− in the presence of different surfactants, i.e., cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and tetrabutylammonium phosphate (TBAP), under conventional conditions, resulted in the formation of PbO2 with varying morphology. The obtained materials were combined with g-C3N4 for the preparation of the final composite materials, which were then characterized morphologically and electrochemically. After optimizing the degradation method, it was shown that an anode comprising a steel electrode coated with the composite of PbO2 synthesized using CTAB as template and g-C3N4, and using 0.15 M Na2SO4 as the supporting electrolyte, gave the best performance for RB5 dye removal from a 35 mg/L solution. The treatment duration was 60 min, applying a current of 0.17 A (electrode surface 4 cm2, current density of 42.5 mA/cm2), while the initial pH of the testing solution was 2. The reusability and longevity of the electrode surface (which showed no significant change in activity throughout the study) may suggest that this approach is a promising candidate for wastewater treatment and pollutant removal.

Because organophosphate pesticides’ use has expanded dramatically worldwide, accurate monitoring of their concentrations in the environment and food has become of utmost importance. Once considered acutely toxic due to acetylcholinesterase inhibition, nowadays organophosphates are classified as extremely dangerous compounds, with a broad spectrum of toxicity types, by the World Health Organization. Having in mind their extensive use and diverse harmful effects, it is necessary to develop easy, rapid, and highly sensitive methods for organophosphate detection. Regardless of numerous conventional techniques for organophosphate detection, the construction of portable sensors is required to make routine analysis possible. Extensive literature on the different sensors for organophosphate detection is available. Many of them rely on the use of various carbon materials. There are many classes of carbon materials used in sensing element construction, as well as supporting materials. This review focuses on electrochemical and optical sensors based on carbon materials. Special attention is paid to the selectivity, sensitivity, stability, and reusability of reviewed sensors.

AB  - Cardiovascular (CV) disorders are steadily increasing, making them the world’s most prevalent health issue. New research highlights the importance of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) for maintaining CV healthMethodsWe searched PubMed and MEDLINE for English and non-English articles with English abstracts published between 1957 (when the first report on IGF-1 identification was published) and 2022. The top search terms were: IGF-1, cardiovascular disease, IGF-1 receptors, IGF-1 and microRNAs, therapeutic interventions with IGF-1, IGF-1 and diabetes, IGF-1 and cardiovascular disease. The search retrieved original peer-reviewed articles, which were further analyzed, focusing on the role of IGF-1 in pathophysiological conditions. We specifically focused on including the most recent findings published in the past five years.ResultsIGF-1, an anabolic growth factor, regulates cell division, proliferation, and survival. In addition to its well-known growth-promoting and metabolic effects, there is mounting evidence that IGF-1 plays a specialized role in the complex activities that underpin CV function. IGF-1 promotes cardiac development and improves cardiac output, stroke volume, contractility, and ejection fraction. Furthermore, IGF-1 mediates many growth hormones (GH) actions. IGF-1 stimulates contractility and tissue remodeling in humans to improve heart function after myocardial infarction. IGF-1 also improves the lipid profile, lowers insulin levels, increases insulin sensitivity, and promotes glucose metabolism. These findings point to the intriguing medicinal potential of IGF-1. Human studies associate low serum levels of free or total IGF-1 with an increased risk of CV and cerebrovascular illness. Extensive human trials are being conducted to investigate the therapeutic efficacy and outcomes of IGF-1-related therapy.DiscussionWe anticipate the development of novel IGF-1-related therapy with minimal side effects. This review discusses recent findings on the role of IGF-1 in the cardiovascular (CVD) system, including both normal and pathological conditions. We also discuss progress in therapeutic interventions aimed at targeting the IGF axis and provide insights into the epigenetic regulation of IGF-1 mediated by microRNAs.

AB  - A set of samples of SrGd2O4 doped with Sm3+ and Dy3+with different concentrations was prepared via glycine-assisted combustion synthesis. All of the diffraction peaks are related to the pure orthorhombic lattice SrGd2O4, according to X-ray Powder Diffraction investigation. The Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy chemical characterization revealed that the structure included all desired elements. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy was used to capture the morphology, which showed porous aggregated particles consisting of roughly 50 nm-sized spherical particles. The Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry was used to establish where voids originated, and the results showed that samples have a real permanent 3D pore structure. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy verified the successful incorporation of Dy3+ and Sm3+ ions in the matrix. Down-conversion luminescence spectra were recorded and typical emission transitions were found for either Sm3+ (4G5/2→6H5/2, 4G5/2→6H7/2, 4G5/2→6H9/2) or Dy3+ (4F9/2→6H15/2 and 4F9/2→6H13/2) ions. Calculation of the energy band gap using UV-VIS Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy yielded values of 4.3 eV for both doped samples. Using UV-VIS Absorption Spectroscopy, the photocatalytic degradation process was observed. After 4 h of simulating Sun exposure, an analysis of the photocatalytic properties revealed that approximately 50% of the Rhodamine B had been mineralized.

AB  - Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is a polymer material widely used in dental applications due to its excellent biocompatibility, stable physicochemical properties, easy manipulation, and low cost. The combination of biocompatible polymers and ceramics has great potential for the development of materials in the dental industry with improved mechanical properties. The addition of Al2O3 nanoparticles to PMMA can significantly improve its compressive and flexural strengths and wear resistance. Since this material is used in dental applications, it requires a high degree of product sterility. This can easily be achieved with gamma radiation treatment. Gamma radiation not only ensures the sterility of the product but can also affects changes in numerous material properties. The aim of this paper is to determine the influence of different doses of gamma radiation on the microbiological purity and changes in the mechanical and thermal properties of the PMMA/Al2O3 composite as well as the microstructural and color changes. It was found that the dose of radiation of 25 kGy is sufficient for complete sterilization of the product. This radiation dose improves the mechanical properties of the material and thermal stability. On the other hand, the dose of 25 kGy does not affect the morphology of the exposed sample and has small effect on the color change.

The combination of biocompatible polymers and ceramics has great potential for the development of materials in the dental industry with improved mechanical properties. AB  - Multicomponent oxide with pyrochlore structure (A2B2O7), containing 7 different A-site cations and 3 B-site cations in equiatomic amounts, was synthesized. Powders with nominal composition (La1/7Sm1/7Nd1/7Pr1/7Y1/7Gd1/7Yb1/7)2(Sn1/3Hf1/3Zr1/3)2O7 were fabricated through a reaction of metal nitrates (A-site) and metal chlorides (B-site) with sodium hydroxide during the solid state displacement reaction. Room temperature synthesis initially resulted in the obtainment of amorphous powders, which crystallized after subsequent calcination to form single crystalline compounds. Crystalline high-entropy ceramic powders formation took place at temperatures as low as 750 °C. During calcination, defective fluorite (F-A2B2O7) and crystal pyrochlore (Py-A2B2O7) structures coexist. A large number of cations induce the obtainment of stable high-entropy pyrochlores. Results showed that sintering at 1650 °C lead to pure crystalline single-phase pyrochlore formation. High-density ceramic, free of additives, was obtained after powders were compacted and subjected to pressureless sintering at 1650 °C. Multicomponent pyrochlore structure was investigated using the theoretical and experimental multi-methodological approach.

AB  - In this study, plasma induced by a nanosecond Nd:YAG laser on thin oil films deposited on a silica wafer was characterized by evaluating the main plasma parameters. Spatially and temporally integrated spectral measurements were performed under experimental conditions optimized for elemental analysis of trace metals in oil. Time-resolved values of the spectral line intensities, electron number density, and plasma temperature were obtained from time-integrated measurements by subtracting averaged spectra recorded at different time delays. The electron number density was estimated using the Stark broadened profile of the hydrogen Balmer alpha line. Ionization temperatures were derived from Mg ionic to atomic line intensity ratios. The obtained apparent values of time-resolved plasma parameters were in the range of 1.1×1017 cm-3 (1.5 μs) to 1.5×1016 cm-3 (4 μs) and 9400 K (3 μs) to 7200 K (5 μs), depending on the delay time. Emission spectra of C2 and CN molecules were used to evaluate the rotational and vibrational temperature.
