Influence of zirconium and copper sub-layer in cell integrations on femtosecond laser-processed Ti thin films

AB  - The creation of novel biocompatible Ti-based thin films with a Zr or Cu sub-layer modified by ultrafast laser processing is studied. To prepare bioactive surfaces, ultrafast laser processing is focused on the formation of laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) with the production of oxide phases at the surfaces. Two differently designed multilayer thin films Ti/Cu/Ti and Ti/Zr/Ti were deposited on the silicon using the ion sputtering method. The Ti thin film contains Cu or Zr sub-layer (thickness of 10 nm) at the 10 nm below the surface. The composition and surface morphology variations for these systems, deposited and laser-processed under the same experimental conditions, were caused only by different thermo-physical properties of the sub-layer (Cu or Zr). The surface morphology in the form of LIPSS, led to improved cell adhesion and stable cells/thin films interface compared to as-deposited samples. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy and MTT analysis revealed that laser processing of both systems increased cell adhesion, proliferation, and metabolical activity of L929 mouse fibroblast cells compared to non-modified flat surfaces. Overall, the biocompatibility of Zrcontaining thin films is better than Ti/Cu/Ti system. Further, laser processing and formation of LIPSS makes Ti/Zr/Ti thin films excellent candidate for biomedical

Influence of Gold Nanoparticle Shape and Single-Cell Localization on Energy Deposition Efficiency and Irradiation Specificity in Photon Radiotherapy

AB  - Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been investigated extensively in the past twenty years as a sensitizing agent in photon radiotherapy. Targeted delivery of AuNPs to specifc sites in cells and tissues contributes to highly localized radiation dose enhancement, whereby the surrounding healthy structures can be largely spared from the unwanted radiation efects. Te efciency of introduced AuNPs with regard to dose enhancement depends on the properties of the nanoparticles since not all of deposited radiation energy reaches the intended biological target but is partially absorbed within the nanoparticles themselves or distributed elsewhere. Te present paper investigates the infuence of AuNP shape and localization on the enhancement and intracellular distribution of deposited energy in radiation therapy with photons. Energy deposition patterns are calculated with nanoscale accuracy through Monte Carlo simulations of radiation transport, which are optimized to accommodate a structured geometrical representation of the region loaded with AuNPs, i.e., to allow discrete modeling of individual nanoparticles. Same-volume nanoparticles of three commonly encountered shapes—nanospheres, nanorods, and square nanoplates—are examined, in order to inspect the diferences in the propagation and absorption of secondary charged particles produced by the incident photons. Five diferent spatial distributions of spherical AuNPs at the single-cell level are studied in the simulations and compared according to the energy deposited in the cell nucleus. Photon energy, nanoparticle size, and concentration are also varied across simulation runs, and their infuence is analyzed in connection to nanoparticle shape and localization. Te obtained results reveal how the investigated nanoparticle properties afect their dose-enhancing ability and irradiation specifcity in AuNP-augmented radiotherapy.

Application of the neural network algorithm in the assessment of the stage of acute kidney damage and the selection of treatment

AB  - Acute kidney injury is a syndrome that occurs in different clinical situations, under the influence of different risk factors, in patients of all ages, especially those in the intensive care unit. The problem of acute kidney damage refers to numerous clinical situations, different disease mechanisms and poor outcomes. In addition, with the current definition of acute kidney injury, only one conventional marker is available for diagnosis in daily clinical practice. To recognize the disease promptly and start treatment, and thereby improving the outcome, the paper presents a model for recognizing acute kidney damage in the stage that requires hemodialysis treatment.The study included 86 hospitalized patients with acute renal impairment who were divided according to the stage of renal impairment at admission to hospital treatment into three groups. The assessment of acute renal impairment and the classification of disease stages were based on the diagnostic stages by the K / DIGO group. All examined patients were over 18 years of age. In the first stage of the disease it was 12.79%, in the second stage it was 15.12%, and in the third 72.09% of patients. Test methods included clinical processing, laboratory evaluation, functional tests, and echosonographic examination. Clinical data included demographic, comorbidity and vital parameters, baseline full blood count, biochemistry and renal function tests. Further laboratory investigations were performed as indicated clinically thereafter. Spot blood and urine samples were collected from all patients in the morning after overnight fasting. The neural network was created in feed forward back propagation of the connection between the data of 69 patients with 31 parameters. In pattern recognition, the neural network learns to recognize the conditions in which it was decided to send the patient to dialysis 10 or to send to classical treatment 01. The training function analyzed the patients separated in three special categories 80% training, 10% test and 10% validation. The algorithm of the learning function is a scaling gradient that adapts the input data to the output data.The neural network achieved a performance of 0.14322 in 6 epochs. In a test with the data of 17 patients, it was shown that the neural network indicates for which patients dialysis treatment is a better option that fits with AKI stage 3. For patients with the first and second stages of the disease, conservative treatment is a better therapeutic choice.This paper deals with a current topic by analyzing data using a neural network algorithm to help assess the stage of the disease in high-risk hospitalized patients with acute kidney injury and select treatment modalities. The conclusions derived from this analysis should help with stage recognition and the selection of treatment modalities for patients with acute kidney injury.

Temperature profile and thermal piston component of photoacoustic response calculated by the fractional dual-phase-lag heat conduction theory

AB  - We present the temperature distribution predictions for photothermal systems by considering an extension of dual-phase lag. It is an extension of the GCE-II and GCE-III models with a fractional dual-phase lag from kinetic relaxation time. Solving the one-dimensional problem considering a planar and periodic excitation, we obtained the temperature distribution and the Photoacoustic (PA) signal for the transmission setup. We also analyze the effects of fractional order derivatives and kinetic relaxation time. It is shown that the derived models have promising results that could be used to explain the experimentally observed behavior of PA signals measured on thin films with an inhomogeneous internal structure.

Data Analysis of Impaired Renal and Cardiac Function Using a Combination of Standard Classifiers

AB  - We examine the significance of the predictive potential of EPI cystatin C (EPI CysC) in combination with NTproBNP, sodium, and potassium in the evaluation of renal function in patients with cardiorenal syndrome using standard mathematical classification models from the domain of artificial intelligence. The criterion for the inclusion of subjects with combined impairment of heart and kidney function in the study was the presence of newly discovered or previously diagnosed clinically manifest cardiovascular disease and acute or chronic kidney disease in different stages of evolution. In this paper, five standard classifiers from the field of machine learning were used for the analysis of the obtained data: ensemble of neural networks (MLP), ensemble of k-nearest neighbors (k-NN) and naive Bayes classifier, decision tree, and a classifier based on logistic regression. The results showed that in MLP, k-NN, and naive Bayes, EPI CysC had the highest predictive potential. Thus, our approach with utility classifiers recognizes the essence of the disorder in patients with cardiorenal syndrome and facilitates the planning of further treatment.

AB  - In this paper, the possibility of determining the thermal, elastic and geometric characteristics of a thin TiO2 film deposited on a silicon substrate, with a thickness of 30 μm, in the frequency range of 20 to 20 kHz with neural networks were analysed. For this purpose, the geometric (thickness), thermal (thermal diffusivity, coefficient of linear expansion) and electronic parameters of substrates were known and constant in the two-layer model, while the following nano-layer thin-film parameters were changed: thickness, expansion and thermal diffusivity. Predictions of these three parameters of the thin-film were analysed separately with three neural networks. All of them together were joined by a fourth neural network. It was shown that the neural network, which analysed all three parameters at the same time, achieved the highest accuracy, so the use of networks that provide predictions for only one parameter is less reliable. The obtained results showed that the application of neural networks in determining the thermoelastic properties of a thin film on a supporting substrate enables the estimation of its characteristics with great accuracy.

AB  - Irrational and transcendental functions can often be seen in signal processing or physical phenomena analysis as consequences of fractional-order and distributed-order models that result in fractional or partial differential equations. In cases when finding solution in analytical form tends to be difficult or impossible, numerical calculations such as Haar wavelet operational matrix method can be used. In order to evaluate accuracy of the numerical inversion of irrational and transcendental Laplace transform using Haar wavelet operational matrix, a number inverse Laplace transforms are numerically solved and compared with the analytical solutions and solutions provided by Invlap and NILT algorithms.

AB  - In modern high-speed semiconductor electronics, there is a high-rate heating of components that is affected by very fast relaxation processes. The relaxation times of these processes should be known for thermal management of these devices. For almost half a century, photoacoustic techniques have been successfully developed and used to investigate physical semiconductor properties. In order to enable observation of fast relaxation processes, the model of pulse photoacoustic signal is proposed that includes influence of thermal relaxations. It is shown that these processes can be observed in a thin semiconductor layer by choosing the frequency of short pulse train and their duty cycle.

AB  - The model of a photoacoustic gas-microphone signal in the time domain recorded in a transmission configuration using a minimum volume cell is derived. This model takes into account the inertial thermal relaxations of both the sample and the gas filling the cell by means of the generalized hyperbolic theory of heat conduction. With the introduction of electro-thermal analogy for the thin sample and short microphone length cavity, characteristic quantities are defined, which can be used in solving the inverse problem in time-domain photoacoustic in both cases, when thermal relaxations are neglected as well as when they are considered. The derived model that includes thermal relaxation explains the experimentally observed occurrence of overshoots and undershoots as well as an oscillatory approach to the steady values of the recorded signal in high-resolution time-domain photoacoustic measurements of thin semiconductor membranes, which will be presented in detail in Paper II of the paper. © 2023 Author(s).

AB  - Optical fibre sensors have attracted much attention as noninvasive electrically immune multiparameter diagnostic tools. Optical fibre gratings - resonant structures inside fibres, enable localized and distributed high-precision measurement schemes for the use in cardiology, pulmonology, prosthetics, obstetrics, etc. Particular niche market is reserved for broadband LPG sensors, which expel light from the fibre core to the cladding and thus enable sensitive measurement of the external refractive index and curvature. With the new costcutting LPG fabrication methods on the raise the question of the source and detector cost gets into focus. While the broadband coherent sources are usually used in laboratory, the source and spectrum analyser costs are prohibitive for many field applications. In this paper, we evaluate the performance and cost-benefit of the incoherent source application. The sensor performance is assessed in terms of sensing precision and signal-to-noise signal quality for broadband and lateral edge sensing schemes. It is sufficient for basic heart and respiration rate monitoring, but fails to satisfy stricter requirements for medical diagnostics.

Optical fibre gratings - resonant structures inside fibres, enable localized and distributed high-precision measurement schemes for the use in cardiology, pulmonology, prosthetics, obstetrics, etc. Particular niche market is reserved for broadband LPG sensors, which expel light from the fibre core to the cladding and thus enable sensitive measurement of the external refractive index and curvature. With the new costcutting LPG fabrication methods on the raise the question of the source and detector cost gets into focus. While the broadband coherent sources are usually used in laboratory, the source and spectrum analyser costs are prohibitive for many field applications. In this paper, we evaluate the performance and cost-benefit of the incoherent source application. The sensor performance is assessed in terms of sensing precision and signal-to-noise signal quality for broadband and lateral edge sensing schemes. It is sufficient for basic heart and respiration rate monitoring, but fails to satisfy stricter requirements for medical diagnostics.",

Association between vitamin D hypovitaminosis and severe forms of COVID-19

AB  - Objective: Hypovitaminosis D may be associated with an increased susceptibility to infection, more severe COVID-19 forms, and a higher risk of death. The objective of this study was to investigate any possible connections between vitamin D status [as measured by serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels] and COVID-19 severity.  Patients and methods: In 2021, a cross-sectional study of consecutive adult COVID-19 patients was conducted. Anthropometric data, comorbidities, hospital setting, length of stay, respiratory support, outcome data, and vitamin D status were all evaluated.  Results: The length of hospitalization among participants (n = 74; mean age 57.64 ± 17.83 years, 55.4% male) was 18.58 ± 10 days, the majority of the hospital setting was a medical ward (67.6%), and the respiratory support in the form of mechanical ventilation was represented by 12.2%. Hypertension (54.1%), obesity (64.9%), and overweight (64.9%) were the most common cardiometabolic risk factors. In the study group, 44.6% of participants had severe vitamin D deficiency (< 30 nmol/l), while 8.1% had vitamin D insufficiency (50 - 74.9 nmol/l). Furthermore, patients with severe COVID-19 (semi-intensive care unit, intensive care unit) had significantly lower serum 25(OH)D levels (32.9 vs. 20.5 nmol/l; p = 0.007). Participants with severe vitamin D deficiency were older and had more prevalent hypertension, requiring mechanical ventilation; 24.2% experienced a fatal outcome.  Conclusions: Severe vitamin D deficiency may contribute significantly to the influence of other cardiometabolic risk factors in COVID-19.

AB  - COVID-19 is a viral respiratory infection induced by the newly discovered coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. miRNA is an example of a strong and direct regulator of a gene’s transcriptional activity. The interaction between miRNAs and their target molecules is responsible for homeostasis. Virus-derived and host-derived miRNAs are involved in the activity of hiding from immune system cells, inducing the inflammatory reaction through interplay with associated genes, during SARS-COV-2 infection. Interest in miRNAs has raised the comprehension of the machinery and pathophysiology of SARS-COV-2 infection. In this review, the effects and biological roles of miRNAs on SARS-CoV-2 pathogenicity and life cycle are described. The therapeutic potential of miRNAs against SARS-CoV-2 infection are also mentioned.

AB  - MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in the regulation of various cellular processes including pathological conditions. MiRNA networks have been extensively researched in age-related degenerative diseases, such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and heart failure. Thus, miRNA has been studied from different approaches, in vivo, in vitro, and in silico including miRNA networks. Networks linking diverse biomedical entities unveil information not readily observable by other means. This work focuses on biological networks related to Breast cancer susceptibility 1 (BRCA1) in AD and breast cancer (BC). Using various bioinformatics approaches, we identified subnetworks common to AD and BC that suggest they are linked. According to our results, miR-107 was identified as a potentially good candidate for both AD and BC treatment (targeting BRCA1/2 and PTEN in both diseases), accompanied by miR-146a and miR-17. The analysis also confirmed the involvement of the miR-17-92 cluster, and miR-124-3p, and highlighted the importance of poorly researched miRNAs such as mir-6785 mir6127, mir-6870, or miR-8485. After filtering the in silico analysis results, we found 49 miRNA molecules that modulate the expression of at least five genes common to both BC and AD. Those 49 miRNAs regulate the expression of 122 genes in AD and 93 genes in BC, from which 26 genes are common genes for AD and BC involved in neuron differentiation and genesis, cell differentiation and migration, regulation of cell cycle, and cancer development. Additionally, the highly enriched pathway was associated with diabetic complications, pointing out possible interplay among molecules underlying BC, AD, and diabetes pathology

AB  - Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with functional deterioration of the salivary gland and dental pulp, related to oxidative stress. The aim was to integrate experimental and bioinformatic findings to analyze the cellular mechanism of melatonin (MEL) action in the human parotid gland and dental pulp in diabetes. Human parotid gland tissue was obtained from 16 non-diabetic and 16 diabetic participants, as well as human dental pulp from 15 non-diabetic and 15 diabetic participants. In human non-diabetic and diabetic parotid gland cells (hPGCs) as well as in dental pulp cells (hDPCs), cultured in hyper- and normoglycemic conditions, glial cell linederived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), MEL, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) protein expression, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and spectrophotometrically. Bioinformatic analysis was performed using ShinyGO (v.0.75) application. Diabetic participants had increased GDNF and decreased MEL in parotid (p < 0.01) and dental pulp (p < 0.05) tissues, associated with increased iNOS and SOD activity. Normoglycemic hDPCs and non-diabetic hPGCs treated with 0.1 mM MEL had increased GDNF (p < 0.05), while hyperglycemic hDPCs treated with 1 mM MEL showed a decrease in up-regulated GDNF (p < 0.05). Enrichment analyses showed interference with stress and ATF/CREB signaling. MEL induced the stress-protective mechanism in hyperglycemic hDPCs and diabetic hPGCs, suggesting MEL could be beneficial for diabetes-associated disturbances in oral tissues.

AB  - An imbalance between pro-oxidative and antioxidative cellular mechanisms is oxidative stress (OxS) which may be systemic or organ-specific. Although OxS is a consequence of normal body and organ physiology, severely impaired oxidative homeostasis results in DNA hydroxylation, protein denaturation, lipid peroxidation, and apoptosis, ultimately compromising cells’ function and viability. The thyroid gland is an organ that exhibits both oxidative and antioxidative processes. In terms of OxS severity, the thyroid gland’s response could be physiological (i.e. hormone production and secretion) or pathological (i.e. development of diseases, such as goitre, thyroid cancer, or thyroiditis). Protective nutritional antioxidants may benefit defensive antioxidative systems in resolving pro-oxidative dominance and redox imbalance, preventing or delaying chronic thyroid diseases. This review provides information on nutritional antioxidants and their protective roles against impaired redox homeostasis in various thyroid pathologies. We also review novel findings related to the connection between the thyroid gland and gut microbiome and analyze the effects of probiotics with antioxidant properties on thyroid diseases. New research highlights the importance of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) for maintaining CV healthMethodsWe searched PubMed and MEDLINE for English and non-English articles with English abstracts published between 1957 (when the first report on IGF-1 identification was published) and 2022. The top search terms were: IGF-1, cardiovascular disease, IGF-1 receptors, IGF-1 and microRNAs, therapeutic interventions with IGF-1, IGF-1 and diabetes, IGF-1 and cardiovascular disease. The search retrieved original peer-reviewed articles, which were further analyzed, focusing on the role of IGF-1 in pathophysiological conditions. We specifically focused on including the most recent findings published in the past five years.ResultsIGF-1, an anabolic growth factor, regulates cell division, proliferation, and survival. In addition to its well-known growth-promoting and metabolic effects, there is mounting evidence that IGF-1 plays a specialized role in the complex activities that underpin CV function. IGF-1 promotes cardiac development and improves cardiac output, stroke volume, contractility, and ejection fraction. Furthermore, IGF-1 mediates many growth hormones (GH) actions. IGF-1 stimulates contractility and tissue remodeling in humans to improve heart function after myocardial infarction. IGF-1 also improves the lipid profile, lowers insulin levels, increases insulin sensitivity, and promotes glucose metabolism. These findings point to the intriguing medicinal potential of IGF-1. Human studies associate low serum levels of free or total IGF-1 with an increased risk of CV and cerebrovascular illness. Extensive human trials are being conducted to investigate the therapeutic efficacy and outcomes of IGF-1-related therapy.DiscussionWe anticipate the development of novel IGF-1-related therapy with minimal side effects. This review discusses recent findings on the role of IGF-1 in the cardiovascular (CVD) system, including both normal and pathological conditions. We also discuss progress in therapeutic interventions aimed at targeting the IGF axis and provide insights into the epigenetic regulation of IGF-1 mediated by microRNAs.

AB  - Cardiometabolic diseases (CMD) are a direct consequence of modern living and contribute to the development of multisystem diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus (DM). CMD has reached epidemic proportions worldwide. A sodium pump (Na + /K + -ATPase) is found in most eukaryotic cells’ membrane and controls many essential cellular functions directly or indirectly. This ion transporter and its isoforms are important in the pathogenesis of some pathological processes, including CMD. The structure and function of Na + /K + -ATPase, its expression and distribution in tissues, and its interactions with known ligands such as cardiotonic steroids and other suspected endogenous regulators are discussed in this review. In addition, we reviewed recent literature data related to the involvement of Na + /K + -ATPase activity dysfunction in CMD, focusing on the Na + /K + -ATPase as a potential therapeutic target in CMD.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCMP) is among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients globally. DCMP manifests as cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, apoptosis, and myocardial interstitial fibrosis before progressing to heart failure. Evidence suggests that non-coding RNAs, such as long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs), regulate diabetic cardiomyopathy-related processes such as insulin resistance, cardiomyocyte apoptosis and inflammation, emphasizing their heart-protective effects. This paper reviewed the literature data from animal and human studies on the non-trivial roles of miRNAs and lncRNAs in the context of DCMP in diabetes and demonstrated their future potential in DCMP treatment in diabetic patients.

AB  - After the metabolic syndrome and its components, thyroid disorders represent the most common endocrine disorders, with increasing prevalence in the last two decades. Thyroid dysfunctions are distinguished by hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, or inflammation (thyroiditis) of the thyroid gland, in addition to the presence of thyroid nodules that can be benign or malignant. Thyroid cancer is typically detected via an ultrasound (US)-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) and cytological examination of the specimen. This approach has significant limitations due to the small sample size and inability to characterize follicular lesions adequately. Due to the rapid advancement of high-throughput molecular biology techniques, it is now possible to identify new biomarkers for thyroid neoplasms that can supplement traditional imaging modalities in postoperative surveillance and aid in the preoperative cytology examination of indeterminate or follicular lesions. Here, we review current knowledge regarding biomarkers that have been reliable in detecting thyroid neoplasms, making them valuable tools for assessing the efficacy of surgical procedures or adjunctive treatment after surgery. We are particularly interested in providing an up-to-date and systematic review of emerging biomarkers, such as mRNA and non-coding RNAs, that can potentially detect thyroid neoplasms in clinical settings. We discuss evidence for miRNA, lncRNA and circRNA dysregulation in several thyroid neoplasms and assess their potential for use as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers.

AB  - Thyroid nodules (TN) are localized morphological changes in the thyroid gland and can be benign or malignant.Objective: The present study investigates the relationships between biochemical markers in serum (s) and their homologs in washout (w) after fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) of the TN of interest and their correlation with cytology specimen findings.We investigated the relationships between serum biochemical markers nitric oxide (NO), thyroglobulin (TG), and calcitonin (CT), their homologs in washout after FNAB of the TN of interest, and cytology findings of biopsy samples classified according to the Bethesda system for thyroid cytopathology in this study, which included 86 subjects.Results: Washout TG (TGw) level positively correlates with the cytology finding of the biopsy. A higher level of TGw correlates with higher categories of the Bethesda classification and indicates a higher malignant potential. The levels of serum NO (NOs), serum TG (TGs), serum CT (CTs), and washout CT (CTw) do not correlate with the cytology finding of the biopsy, and the higher levels of washout NO (NOw) correspond to the more suspicious ultrasound findings.The findings of our study suggest that TGw and NOw could be used as potential predictors of malignancy in TN.

Does oestradiol treatment alleviate obesity-induced oxidative stress in the male liver?

AB  - The liver is an organ in which many oxidative processes occur and represents an important target of oxidative stress (OxS). Under physiological conditions of normal mitochondrial homeostasis, hepatocytes effectively remove reactive oxygen species (ROS) by enabling metabolic adaptations and through the antioxidant defence system mechanisms. However, obesity-induced lipid accumulation in the hepatocytes causes significantly elevated production of ROS, reduces oxidative capacity, and increases oxidative stress (OxS). In men, compared with premenopausal women, the development of insulin resistance (IR) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in obesity are more prevalent, where oestradiol (E2), the most potent female sex steroid, is proposed as the main culprit. Exogenous oestradiol (E2) administration exerts beneficial effects on antioxidant properties, restores total plasma antioxidant capacity and decreases biomarkers of OxS in ovariectomized animal models. Thus, we hypothesized that E2 treatment in states of obesity could have beneficial effects against OxS in the obese male's liver. We assumed that E2 could directly affect the level of OxS by increasing the level/activity of the AOS enzymes, particularly SOD1, SOD2, GPx, and CAT, in obese males' livers. In addition, we assumed that the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) and protein carbonyl content (PCC) in obese males' livers would be reduced after E2 treatment as a result of E2 inhibitory effect on lipid peroxidation and protein oxidation, respectively. To test our hypothesis, we used the liver of a high-fat (HF) diet-fed male Wistar rats as an animal model of obesity, treated with E2 intraperitoneally (40 μg/kg). Preliminary results from this study support our hypothesis that E2 increases liver protein expression of AOS enzymes: SOD1, GPx, and CAT, in control and HF male rats compared with their respective controls. The protein level of SOD2 and CAT activity was increased in HF treated with E2 compared with non-treated HF rats. Moreover, as we expected, E2 administration significantly decreased the MDA level in both E2-treated groups compared to their controls, while the PCC level was significantly decreased in HF treated group compared with untreated HF rats. In conclusion, the preliminary results we obtained in this study indicate that E2 administration can effectively inhibit the OxS-related processes in the liver in HF diet-induced obesity by increasing AOS enzymes levels and CAT activity, and also by decreasing levels of MDA and PCC. A consequence of our hypothesis is that treatment with E2 may be an innovative way to improve obesity-related liver disease prevention and healing. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd
