Meta-signature guided investigation of miRNA candidates as potential biomarkers of oral cancer

AB  - Objectives This study aimed to experimentally validate dysregulated expression of miRNA candidates selected through updated meta-analysis of most commonly deregulated miRNAs in oral cancer and to explore their diagnostic and prognostic potential. Materials and methods Five miRNAs (miR-31-3p, miR-135b-5p, miR-18a-5p, miR-30a-5p and miR-139-5p) from updated meta-signature were selected for validation by qRT-PCR method in 35 oral cancer clinical specimens and adjacent non-cancerous tissue. Results Updated meta-analysis has identified 13 most commonly deregulated miRNAs in oral cancer. Seven miRNAs were consistently up-regulated (miR-21-5p, miR-31-3p, miR-135b-5p, miR-31-5p, miR-424-5p, miR-18a-5p and miR-21-3p), while five were down-regulated (miR-139-5p, miR-30a-3p, miR-375-3p, miR-376c-3p and miR-30a-5p). Increased expression of miR-31-3p and miR-135b-5p, and decreased expression of miR-139-5p and miR-30a-5p were confirmed in oral cancer compared to adjacent non-cancerous tissue. A three miRNAs combination (miR-31-3p, miR-139-5p and miR-30a-5p) gave the most promising diagnostic potential for discriminating oral cancer from non-cancerous tissue (AUC: 0.780 [95% CI: 0.673–0.886], p < 0.0005, sensitivity 94.3%, specificity 51.4%). High expression of miR-135b-5p, miR-18a-5p and miR-30a-5p was associated with poor survival (p = 0.003, p = 0.048, p = 0.016 respectively). Conclusion miR-31-3p, miR-139-5p and miR-30a-5p panel was confirmed as a potential diagnostic biomarker when distinguishing oral cancer from non-cancerous tissue. miR-135b-5p, miR-18a-5p and miR-30a-5p might serve as potential biomarkers of poor survival of oral cancer patients.

AB  - Nickel acetate tetrahydrate (NAT) sample series were used to modify screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE). The samples were hybrid Ni/NiO nanocomposites, where the NiO phase increased with an applied treatment temperature. Results of electrochemical measurements pointed that the Ni/NiO550/SPCE-modified electrode had the best analytical performance toward the detection of riboflavin (RF). The Ni/NiO550/SPCE-based sensor showed linear response with RF in the concentration range of 0.5–75 μM and 0.15 μM LOD in BRBS. Sensor offered fast response time, good repeatability, and selectivity with an RSD of 1.4 %. Our results show that the Ni:NiO nanocomposite ratio strongly influenced the electroanalytical performance of SPCE.

Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue under natural sunlight using iron titanate nanoparticles prepared by a modified sol–gel method

AB  - The aim of this work was to synthesize semiconducting oxide nanoparticles using a simple method with low production cost to be applied in natural sunlight for photocatalytic degradation of pollutants in waste water. Iron titanate (Fe2TiO5) nanoparticles with an orthorhombic structure were successfully synthesized using a modified sol–gel method and calcination at 750°C. The as-prepared Fe2TiO5 nanoparticles exhibited a moderate specific surface area. The mesoporous Fe2TiO5 nanoparticles possessed strong absorption in the visible-light region and the band gap was estimated to be around 2.16 eV. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by the degradation of methylene blue under natural sunlight. The effect of parameters such as the amount of catalyst, initial concentration of the dye and pH of the dye solution on the removal efficiency of methylene blue was investigated. Fe2TiO5 showed high degradation efficiency in a strong alkaline medium that can be the result of the facilitated formation of OH radicals due to an increased concentration of hydroxyl ions.

AB  - Vaccination is one of the greatest achievements in biomedical research preventing death and morbidity in many infectious diseases through the induction of pathogen-specific humoral and cellular immune responses. Currently, no effective vaccines are available for pathogens with a highly variable antigenic load, such as the human immunodeficiency virus or to induce cellular T-cell immunity in the fight against cancer. The recent SARS-CoV-2 outbreak has reinforced the relevance of designing smart therapeutic vaccine modalities to ensure public health. Indeed, academic and private companies have ongoing joint efforts to develop novel vaccine prototypes for this virus. Many pathogens are covered by a dense glycan-coat, which form an attractive target for vaccine development. Moreover, many tumor types are characterized by altered glycosylation profiles that are known as “tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens”. Unfortunately, glycans do not provoke a vigorous immune response and generally serve as T-cell-independent antigens, not eliciting protective immunoglobulin G responses nor inducing immunological memory. A close and continuous crosstalk between glycochemists and glycoimmunologists is essential for the successful development of efficient immune modulators. It is clear that this is a key point for the discovery of novel approaches, which could significantly improve our understanding of the immune system. In this review, we discuss the latest advancements in development of vaccines against glycan epitopes to gain selective immune responses and to provide an overview on the role of different immunogenic constructs in improving glycovaccine efficacy.

AB  - Silica particles were obtained from rice husk to which layered double hydroxide particles were deposited (weight ratio 1 : 1). Fe2+-Al3+ layered double hydroxides (FeAl-LDH) were synthesized by co-precipitation with ratios Fe : Al of 3 : 1 in the presence of SiO2 particles from the rice husk. Characterization of the synthesized FeAl-LDH@SiO2 particles was performed by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy with EDS. Prepared FeAl-LDH@SiO2 particles were used as reinforcing agents in 1, 3 and 5 wt% quantity in poly (methyl) methacrylate matrix. The aim of this study was to examine whether FeAl-LDH@SiO2 particles affect the mechanical properties of polymer composite materials. The morphology of the composites was examined using a field emission scanning electron microscope. Microindentation, tensile and impact testing determined the mechanical properties of the obtained composites.

Characterization of the synthesized FeAl-LDH@SiO2 particles was performed by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy with EDS. Prepared FeAl-LDH@SiO2 particles were used as reinforcing agents in 1, 3 and 5 wt% quantity in poly (methyl) methacrylate matrix. The aim of this study was to examine whether FeAl-LDH@SiO2 particles affect the mechanical properties of polymer composite materials. The morphology of the composites was examined using a field emission scanning electron microscope. Microindentation, tensile and impact testing determined the mechanical properties of the obtained composites.",

Acrylates are materials used to make and repair dentures. Reinforcements in the form of short glass or polymer fibers are added to improve the mechanical properties of dental polymers. In this study, the processing of composite material with a polymer matrix from commercial auto-polymerized acrylate Simgal, with reinforcement in the form of short poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fibers was examined. Samples were processed in three series: pure Simgal, Simgal/PET 1 wt% and Simgal/PET 3 wt%. The influence of the reinforcement in the form of short PET fibers on the mechanical properties of composite materials was investigated. Strength and hardness were tested by impact testing and Vickers microhardness, and it was shown that there is an increase in absorbed energy and hardness. The modulus was reduced by the addition of PET fibers and by increasing the amount of fibers in the composite. The increase in the amount of PET fibers also resulted in a smaller loss of surface mass of the samples compared to the pure matrix by 63% and 93%, respectively. Cavitation test revealed better cavitation resistance of composites than the pure acrylate.

AB  - Objective Cholesteatoma is a challenging chronic pathology of the middle ear for which pharmacologic therapies have not been developed yet. Cholesteatoma occurrence depends on the interplay between genetic and environmental factors while master regulators orchestrating disease progression are still unknown. Therefore, in this review, we will discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of non-coding RNAs (ncRNA) as a new class of regulatory molecules. Methods We have comprehensively reviewed all articles investigating ncRNAs, specifically micro RNAs (miRNAs) and long ncRNAs (lncRNA/circRNA) in cholesteatoma tissue. Results Candidate miRNA approaches indicated that miR-21 and let-7a are the major miRNAs involved in cholesteatoma growth, migration, proliferation, bone destruction, and apoptosis. Regulatory potential for the same biological processes was also observed for miR-203a. The NF-kB/miR-802/PTEN regulatory network was in relation to observed miR-21 activity in cholesteatoma as well. High throughput approaches revealed additional ncRNAs implicated in cholesteatoma pathology. Competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) analysis highlighted lncRNA/circRNA that could be “endogenous sponge” for miR-21 and let-7a based on the hypothesis that RNA transcripts can communicate with and regulate each other by using shared miRNA response elements. Conclusion In this review, we summarize the discoveries and role of ncRNA in major pathways in cholesteatoma and highlight the potential of miRNA-based therapeutics in the treatment of cholesteatoma. Level of Evidence: NA.

AB  - In this study, four low molecular weight (LMW) excipients, tryptophan (TRY), phenylalanine (PHE), lysine (LYS) and saccharin (SAC) were evaluated as co-formers to generate co-amorphous systems (CAMS) by ball milling with carvedilol (CRV). Mixtures of CRV and LMW excipient in 1:0.5, 1:1 and 1:2 drug:excipient molar ratios were ball milled and analysed by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform (FT-IR) infrared spectroscopy and dissolution testing. CAMS were formed by milling of a mixture of CRV with TRY in 1:2 M ratio and SAC in 1:1 M ratio, while amorphization of only CRV was achieved in other mixtures with SAC. In other samples containing TRY and PHE, milling resulted in partial amorphization, while LYS was the least suitable excipient for the amorphization of CRV. Unexpectedly, the highest supersaturation of CRV was achieved from samples containing CRV and LYS in 1:1 and 1:2 M ratios, despite the absence of a significant reduction in CRV crystallinity upon milling of these samples. Increase of hydrophobic surface area caused by milling of samples with TRY and PHE and agglomeration during dissolution testing of samples containing SAC are likely causes of poor dissolution performance of mixtures containing fully or partially amorphous CRV.

AB  - As a renewable resource, starch is considered to be fully biodegradable and nonpolluting to the environment but the hygroscopicity of starch is the main disadvantage for wider applicability in the production of a polymer-based material. Hydrophobically modified starch prepared using natural-based plasticizers/modifiers in a first step ([-]-diisopropyl D-tartrate [DiPT], ricinoleic acid [RA] and epoxidized soybean oil [ESO]), and maleated polypropylene (MAPP) in a second step contributed to better compatibility, and thus reinforcing of composites. Tailored processing conditions, structural/morphological properties, hydrophobicity, and water-resistance of the modified starch were established. In addition, the Charpy impact and tensile strength of composites, based on poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) (EAA) and modified starches, were determined. Increased tensile strength and Young modulus of the composite using starch-modified with DiPT-MAPP, that is, 3 and 83%, respectively, indicated the possible applicability of obtained materials.

AB  - Diatomite (diatomaceous earth) and clay minerals deposits from the mining basin Kolubara, Serbia, are natural materials with high economic potential in many fields. As received and treated materials, diatomite and clay were characterized using X-ray diffraction, mercury intrusion porosimetry, particle size distribution, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Activity concentrations for natural radionuclides 40K, 226Ra and 232Th and anthropogenic radionuclide 137Cs in diatomite and clay were determined by gamma spectrometry with HPGe detector. For diatomite and clay, the mean activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K were found to be 9, 26 and 173 Bq kg-1 and 19, 26 and 470 Bq kg-1, respectively. In the present study was to show that these materials are environmentally safe for further use in many fields.

AB  - The effect of zircon (ZrSiO4) on the physico-chemical and mechanical properties of geopolymer/zircon composites was examined in this study. Four geopolymer/zircon composites containing 10, 20, 30 and 40 wt.% zircon were prepared from metakaolin with alkali activators. AB  - Graphene doped by alkali atoms (ACx) supports two heavily populated bands (π and σ) crossing the Fermi level, which enables the formation of two intense two-dimensional plasmons: the Dirac plasmon (DP) and the acoustic plasmon (AP). Although the mechanism of the formation of these plasmons in electrostatically biased graphene or at noble metal surfaces is well known, the mechanism of their formation in alkali-doped graphenes is still not completely understood. We shall demonstrate that two isoelectronic systems, KC8 and CsC8, support substantially different plasmonic spectra: the KC8 supports a sharp DP and a well-defined AP, while the CsC8 supports a broad DP and does not support an AP at all. We shall demonstrate that the AP in an ACx is not, as previously believed, just a consequence of the interplay of the π and σ intraband transitions, but a very subtle interplay between these transitions and the background screening, caused by the out-of-plane interband C(π)→A(σ) transitions.

AB  - We study quantum features of electromagnetic radiation propagating in a waveguide built of an infinite array of super-conducting qubits (SCQ) placed within a resonator comprised of two massive superconductors. Such engineered media, so-called superconducting quantum metamaterials (SCQMM), have a great potential for quantum information processing and communications and devise a comprehensive study of the nature of the “light”-matter interaction. We predict the emergence of novel in-terference effects with possible practical applications. For exam-ple, photons may exhibit a nontrivial dispersion relation such as band edges and band gaps. In this way, QMMs may be viewed as photonic crystals. This, in turn, enriches their potential for practi-cal applications and provides novel means for devising compre-hensive studies of both practical and fundamental aspects of the interaction of artificial atoms and the EM field.

AB  - Redirecting waste biomass back into the economy can reduce their burden on the environment. The use of waste biomass for the production of fuels, value-added materials or natural fillers has significant economic and environmental benefits. Physico-chemical characterization of waste biomass (plum pomace and fig pomace) was done by proximate, elemental, biochemical analysis, FTIR and SEM analysis. The calorific value of both biomasses can be compared with the calorific value of lignite, which rises their potential use as a solid biofuel. The combustion behavior of biomass was investigated by thermal analysis techniques. Based on thermal degradation experiments performed at four heating rates a kinetic analysis of the biomass decomposition process was accomplished. The kinetic study was done using Kissinger method, Ozawa method, Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO) method, Starink method, and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) method. The value of activation energy obtained by different kinetic methods was ∼210 kJ/mol for plum pomace and ∼162 kJ/mol for fig pomace. Estimated activation energy values were used to calculate thermodynamic parameters. In addition to the fact that the obtained results can serve as a useful reference for the design of pyrolysis reactors, this research has ecological significance because it solves the problem of solid waste disposal.

AB  - The need for stable, chemical resistant and conductive materials is on the rise in recent times. Graphene shows promising electrical conductivity and chemical stability, but the production of a continual, conductive layer is limited and expensive. Silver nanowires (AgNWs) are both conducive and economically viable, but they are sensitive to water and oxygen. In this study, graphene oxide (GO) and AgNWs were synthesized and combined in different mass ratios (3:1, 2.5:1.5, and 1:1) to obtain chemically stable composites with improved electrical properties. Composites were reduced using ascorbic acid. With the increase of AgNWs to GO mass ratio, the surface of the free-standing composite film improved: the root mean square roughness was lowered from 376 nm for GO to 168 nm for the composite with the mass ratio of GO:AgNWs 1:1, while the sheet resistance was lowered from 146 × 106 Ω/□ to 4 Ω/□. For the first time, the effects of gamma irradiation on the structure of the composites were studied. Doses of 15, 25, and 35 kGy were applied.

AB  - Newly designed mesoporous brushite-metakaolin-based geopolymer materials were examined with an idea for using this material as a potential adsorbent for Pb(II) removal from aqueous solutions. As a starting component for geopolymer synthesis, a natural raw kaolinite clay with theaddition of 2 wt.%, 4 wt.%, 6 wt.%, 8 wt.%, and 10 wt.% of pure brushite was used. Phase, structural,morphological, and adsorption properties of newly synthesized mesoporous brushite-metakaolin geopolymer materials were examined in detail by the means of XRPD, FTIR, SEM-EDS, BET/BJH, and ICP-OES methods. The ICP-OES results showed that the synthesized material samples with 2 wt.%, 4 wt.%, and 6 wt.% of brushite possess significant adsorption properties and the mechanisms of the adsorption process can be attributed to chemisorption. The most notable result is that brushite-metakaolin-geopolymer with 2 wt.% of brushite have the best efficiency removal, more than 85% of Pb(II).

AB  - The endangered loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) are a relatively abundant sea turtle species in Madeiran waters, where they encounter various environmental stressors: from natural to anthropogenic. The physiological stress response is increased corticosterone (CS) level in the blood, achieving 2 ng/mL. Although there are various analytical methods for determining the CS concentration in turtle blood, most of them require tedious procedures for the preparation. In this work, we have tested the possibility of using matrix-assisted laser desorption and ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI TOF MS) for fast screening and detection of CS in blood from a turtle captured at the coast of Madeira Island. MALDI does not require sample derivatization and is suitable for low sample volume. The linearity, precision, and limit of detection and quantification with three organic MALDI matrices were investigated in this study. The signal-to-noise ratio of the CS-derived signal was used as a parameter for quantification. Isotopically labelled corticosterone was added as a correction factor at fixed concentration to achieve better linearity and precision. Our results demonstrate that this method has the potential for quantification of CS in turtle blood. However, the lowest concentration of CS extracted from plasma that was still detectable by MALDI TOF MS was about 0.04 mg/mL, which is about ten times higher than the expected CS concentration in blood.

Finally, we demonstrated that RuCN and RuCN/(N-)CDs alter the hydration of the membrane surface in the membrane–water interface region.

Weather Conditions Influence on Lavandin Essential Oil and Hydrolate Quality

AB  - Lavandula sp. essential oil and hydrolate are commercially valuable in various industry branches with the potential for wide-ranging applications. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of these products obtained from L. x intermedia cv. ‘Budrovka’ for the first time cultivated on Fruška Gora Mt. (Serbia) during three successive seasons (2019, 2020, and 2021). Essential oil extraction was obtained by steam distillation, and the composition and influence of weather conditions were also assessed, using flowering tops. The obtained essential oils and hydrolates were analysed by gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS). A linear regression model was developed to predict L. x intermedia cv. ‘Budrovka’ essential oil volatile compound content and hydrolate composition during three years, according to temperature and precipitation data, and the appropriate regression coefficients were calculated, while the correlation analysis was employed to analyse the correlations in hydrolate and essential oil compounds. To completely describe the structure of the research data that would present a better insight into the similarities and differences among the diverse L. x intermedia cv. ‘Budrovka’ samples, the PCA was used. The most dominant in L. intermedia cv. ‘Budrovka’ essential oil and hydrolate were oxygenated monoterpenes: linalool, 1,8-cineole, borneol, linalyl acetate, and terpinene-4-ol. It is established that the temperature was positively correlated with all essential oil and hydrolate compounds. The precipitations were positively correlated with the main compounds (linalool, 1,8-cineole, and borneol), while the other compounds’ content negatively correlated to precipitation. The results indicated that Fruška Gora Mt. has suitable agro-ecological requirements for cultivating Lavandula sp. and providing satisfactory essential oil and hydrolate.

AB  - The possibility of using commercial p-channel power vertical double-diffused metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (VDMOSFETs) as X-ray sensors is investigated in this case study. In this aspect, the dependence of sensitivity on both the gate voltage and the mean energy for three X-ray beams is examined. The eight gate voltages from 0 to 21 V are applied, and the dependence of the sensitivity on the gate voltage is well fitted using the proposed equation. Regarding X-ray energy, the sensitivity first increases and then decreases as a consequence of the behavior of the mass energy-absorption coefficients and is the largest for RQR8 beam. As the mass energy-absorption coefficients of SiO2 are not found in the literature, the mass energy-absorption coefficients of silicon are used. The behavior of irradiated transistors during annealing at room temperature without gate polarization is also considered.

AB  - Eu3+-doped YxLu1−xNbO4 (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1) were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. YNbO4:Eu3+ and LuNbO4:Eu3+ crystallize as beta-Fergusonite (SG no. 15) in 1–10 μm diameter particles. Photoluminescence emission spectra show a slight linear variation of emission energies and intensities with the solid-solution composition in terms of Y/Lu content. The energy difference between Stark sublevels of 5D0→7F1 emission increases, while the asymmetry ratio decreases with the composition. From the dispersion relations of pure YNbO4 and LuNbO4, the refractive index values for each concentration and emission wavelength are estimated. The Ω2 Judd–Ofelt parameter shows a linear increase from 6.75 to 7.48 × 10−20 cm2 from x = 0 to 1, respectively, and Ω4 from 2.69 to 2.95 × 10−20 cm2. The lowest non-radiative deexcitation rate was observed with x = 1, and thus LuNbO4:Eu3+ is more efficient phosphor than YNbO4:Eu3+.

AB  - In this study, silicate nanofillers; dicalcium silicate, magnesium silicate, tricalcium silicate, and wollastonite; were synthesized using four different methods and incorporated into the epoxy resin to improve its mechanical properties. Characterization of the newly synthesized nanofillers was performed using Fourier-transformation infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The purpose of this study was to analyze newly developed composite materials reinforced with silicate nanoparticles utilizing tensile testing and a full-field non-contact 3D Digital Image Correlation (DIC) method. Analysis of deformation and displacement fields gives precise material behavior during testing. Testing results allowed a more reliable assessment of the structural integrity of epoxy composite materials reinforced using different silicate nanofillers. It was concluded that the addition of 3% of dicalcium silicate, magnesium silicate, tricalcium silicate, and wollastonite lead to the increasement of tensile strength up to 31.5%, 29.0%, 27.5%, and 23.5% in comparison with neat epoxy, respectively. In order to offer more trustworthy information about the viscoelastic behavior of neat epoxy and composites, a dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) was also performed and rheological measurements of uncured epoxy matrix and epoxy suspensions were obtained.

Nonlinear signatures of Floquet band topology

AB  - We study how the nonlinear propagation dynamics of bulk states may be used to distinguish topological phases of slowly driven Floquet lattices. First, we show how instabilities of nonlinear Bloch waves may be used to populate Floquet bands and measure their Chern number via the emergence of nontrivial polarization textures in a similar manner to static (undriven) lattices. Second, we show how the nonlinear dynamics of nonstationary superposition states may be used to identify dynamical symmetry inversion points in the intracycle dynamics, thereby allowing anomalous Floquet phases to be distinguished from the trivial phase. The approaches may be readily implemented using light propagation in nonlinear waveguide arrays.

AB  - Background This study aimed to investigate the effects of lithium treatment on gene expression and activity of the prefrontal antioxidant enzymes: copper, zinc superoxide dismutase (SOD1), manganes superoxide dismutase (SOD2), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in animals exposed to chronic restraint stress (CRS). Methods The investigated parameters were quantified using real-time RT-PCR, Western blot analyses, and assays of enzyme activities. Results We found that lithium treatment decreased gene expression of SOD2, as well as the activities of SOD1 and SOD2 in chronically stressed rats to the levels found in unstressed animals. However, lithium treatment in animals exposed to CRS increased prefrontal GPx activity to the levels found in unstressed animals. Conclusions These findings confirm that treatment with lithium induced the modulation of prefrontal antioxidant status in chronically stressed rats. Our results may be very important in biomedical research for understanding the role of lithium in maintaining the stability of prefrontal antioxidant defense system in neuropsychiatric disorders caused by chronic stress.

Experimental investigation of summer thermal performance of the green roof system with mineral wool substrate

AB  - Green roof systems have become an important part in creating sustainable cities. They can provide a wide range of economic, environmental, and social benefits. The goal of this research was to quantify the thermal performance improvements from a green roof with mineral wool substrate installed on a school building in a humid subtropical climate. In-situ measurements during a summer period included heat fluxes through the green and reference roof, vertical temperature profile through both roofs, the local air temperature above roofs, and local meteorological parameters. Furthermore, the summer thermal performance of green and reference roof and the green roof cooling effect were evaluated concerning meteorological parameters using the Pearson correlation analysis. The results indicate that the green roof layers have improved thermal performance of the roof with respect to reduced conductive heat flow by 57% and delayed heat transfer. The maximum and averaged reference roof to green roof outdoor surface temperature difference was 27.5 °C and 5.5 °C, respectively. It was found that ambient temperature and relative humidity have a dominant role on the thermal performance of the green and reference roof, while solar radiation and ambient temperature present the key meteorological determinants of the green roof cooling effect.
