AB - Machining of green pressed parts of engineering ceramics is possible if suitable binder, whisch improves the amchinability of green parts, is used. Acrylics used as a binder improved the mechanical properties of green pressed parts. The possibility of using the methyl methacrylate (monomer and polymer) as a bunder in multicomponent mixture of alumina and organic additives (plasticizers and binders) was investigated in this work, with the aim to improve machinability of green parts. Green density of pressed parts depends on applied pressure. Higher green density indicates better packing of alumina powder and results in less shrinkage during heating. The main intention was to improve machinability of green parts pressed at the optimal level of pressing pressure. [from Introduction]
