AB - We consider the system of N two-level atoms, of which N0 atoms are unexcited and N1 are excited. This system of N two-level atoms, which forms a linear quantum amplifier, interacts with a single-mode electromagnetic field. The problem of amplification of the L-photon states using such an amplifier is studied. The evolution of the electromagnetic field density matrix is described by the master equation for the field under amplification. The dynamics of this process is such that it can be described as the transformation of the scale of the phase space. The exact solution of the master equation is expressed using the transformed Husimi function of the L-quantum state of the harmonic oscillator. The properties of this function are studied and using it the average photon number and its fluctuations in the amplified state are found. © 2021, Editura Academiei Romane. All rights reserved.

AB - The current compliance networks of automatic air-quality monitoring stations in large urban environments are not sufficient to provide spatial and temporal measurement resolution for realistic assessment of personal exposure to pollutants. Small low-cost sensor platforms with greater mobility and expected lower maintenance costs, are increasingly being used as a supplement to compliance monitoring stations. However, low-cost sensor platforms usually provide data with uncertain precision. To improve the precision, these sensor platforms require in-field calibration. Our paper aims to demonstrate that data from each individual sensor system can be corrected using that sensor system's own data to achieve much improved data quality compared to a reference. However, in this procedure, there are practical difficulties such as individual sensor outputs from the multi-sensor system not being sufficiently available due to malfunctions for instance. We explore how this can be dealt with. In our opinion, this is a novel approach, of practical importance both to users and manufacturers. We present a detailed comparative analysis of Linear Regression (univariate), Multivariate Linear Regression and Artificial Neural Networks used with a specific aim of calibrating field-deployed low-cost CO and O3 sensors. For Artificial Neural Network models, the performance of three common training algorithms was compared (Levenberg-Marquardt, Resilient back-propagation and Conjugate Gradient Powell-Beale algorithm). Data for this study were obtained from two campaigns conducted with 25 multi-sensor AQMESH v.3.5 platforms used within the activities of the CITI-SENSE project. The platforms were co-located to reference gas monitors at the Automatic Monitoring Station Stari Grad, in Belgrade, Serbia. This paper demonstrates that Multivariate Linear Regression and Artificial Neural Network calibration models can improve the output signal. This improvement can be measured by changes in the median and interquartile ranges of statistical parameters used for model evaluation. Artificial Neural Networks showed the best results compared to Linear Regression and Multivariate Linear Regression models. The best predictors for CO, in addition to CO low-cost sensor data, were PM2.5 and NO2, while for O3, in addition to O3 low-cost sensor data, the most suitable input predictors were NO and aH. Based on residual error analysis, we have shown that for CO and O3, a certain range of concentrations exists in which calibrated values differ by less than 10% from the reference method results. In addition, it was noted that for all models, CO sensors consistently showed lower variability between platforms compared to O3 sensors. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

AB - We consider a linear quantum amplifier consisting of NA two-level atoms and study the problem of amplification of N-photon states. The N-photon states are associated with N-quantum states of the harmonic oscillator. We show that the process of interaction of the electromagnetic field with atoms can be associated with some transformation of the phase space and functions defined on this phase space. We consider the Husimi functions QN(q, p) of N-quantum states of the harmonic oscillator, which are defined on the phase space, investigate transformation of these functions, and find an explicit form of the density matrix of the amplified N-photon state. © 2019, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

AB - We study the interaction of the medium composed of three-level atoms in A configuration interacting with two laser fields: weak probe field and strong control field. The probe field enters the medium under a certain angle, and it is initially in the form of the spatial soliton, while the control field is periodically modulated. The system of optical Bloch equations is analytically solved in the stationary regime by the perturbation method in order to obtain linear and third-order nonlinear susceptibility of the medium with respect to the probe field. After a straightforward algebraic procedure, using the approximation of the slow-varying field envelope, the nonlinear Schrödinger equation for the probe field is obtained. It is numerically solved by applying the spectral Fourier split-step method. It is found that, for properly chosen values of the probe and control field detunings and control Rabi frequency, the probe field behaves as a solitary wave whose direction does not depend on the incident angle. Moreover, the regime consisting of Bloch-like oscillations can be identified. The simulation is performed by choosing the corresponding levels of Mg atoms. © 2019 Author(s).

AB - In the diffraction pattern produced by a half-plane sharp edge when it obstructs the passage of a laser beam, two characteristic regions are noticeable. There is a central region, where the diffraction of laser light appears in the region of geometric shadow, while intensity oscillations are observed in the non-obstructed area. On both sides of the edge, there are also very long light traces along the normal to the edge of the obstacle. The theoretical explanation of this phenomenon is based on the Fresnel–Kirchhoff diffraction theory applied to the Gaussian beam propagation behind the obstacle. In this paper, we supplement this explanation by considering electromagnetic flow lines, which provide a more complete interpretation of the phenomenon in terms of electric and magnetic fields and flux lines; at the same time, that can be related to average photon paths. © 2018, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

AB - Certain irregularities have been observed in the formation of probability matrices when applying our method for calculating the coincident summing effects occurringin the gamma spectroscopy of radionuclides. They have to do with the fact that, at certain energy levels, transition intensities are not balanced. As this affects the accuracy of our calculation, we have examined the source of those irregularities. This paper presents comments on the evaluation of the152Eu decay data. The paper offers an analysis of the errors and mistakes that the evaluators have made, in order to facilitate the future work in gamma spectroscopy.

AB - We consider scale transformations (q, p) - GT (lambda q, lambda p) in phase space. They induce transformations of the Husimi functions H(q, p) defined in this space. We consider the Husimi functions for states that are arbitrary superpositions of n-particle states of a harmonic oscillator. We develop a method that allows finding so-called stretched states to which these superpositions transform under such a scale transformation. We study the properties of the stretched states and calculate their density matrices in explicit form. We establish that the density matrix structure can be described using negative binomial distributions. We find expressions for the energy and entropy of stretched states and calculate the means of the number-ofstates operator. We give the form of the Heisenberg and Robertson-Schrodinger uncertainty relations for stretched states.

AB - We present an improved statistical method for the calculation of mean lifetime of nuclei in a decay chain with an uncertain relation between mother and daughter nuclei. The method is based on the formation of time distribution of intervals between mother and daughter nuclei, without trying to set the exact mother-daughter nuclei relationship. If there is a coincidence of mother and daughter nuclei decays, the sum of these distributions has flat term on which an exponential term is superimposed. Parameters of this exponential function allow lifetime of daughter nucleus to be extracted. The method is tested on Monte Carlo simulation data.

AB - We consider the Husimi Q(q, p)-functions which are quantum quasiprobability distributions on the phase space. It is known that, under a scaling transform (q; p) - GT (aiiq; aiip), the Husimi function of any physical state is converted into a function which is also the Husimi function of some physical state. More precisely, it has been proved that, if Q(q, p) is the Husimi function, the function aii(2) Q(aiiq; aiip) is also the Husimi function. We call a state with the Husimi function aii(2) Q(aiiq; aiip) the stretched state and investigate the properties of the stretched Fock states. These states can be obtained as a result of applying the scaling transform to the Fock states of the harmonic oscillator. The harmonic-oscillator Fock states are pure states, but the stretched Fock states are mixed states. We find the density matrices of stretched Fock states in an explicit form. Their structure can be described with the help of negative binomial distributions. We present the graphs of distributions of negative binomial coefficients for different stretched Fock states and show the von Neumann entropy of the simplest stretched Fock state.

AB - In this paper we present the results of applying the new approach for calculating coincidence summing effects. The application of analytical approaches to coincidence summing effects makes it possible to predict all summation peaks that occur in the spectrum. Accordingly, based on the value of the peak area in the spectrum and knowledge of probability transitions between excited states of a nucleus, it is possible to determine the efficiency of detection and activity of radioactive sources. This method is successfully applied to the decay of the radionuclide europium Eu-152. It provides a detailed description of the method of forming the matrix corresponding to the final result - determined activities and the efficiency of detection. The importance of the new method is that it allows us to determine the efficiency of detection and activity of radioactive sources directly without calibration of the detector, which is very important in metrology of radionuclides. AB - We propose a new method for the derivation of Husimi symbols, for operators that are given in the form of products of an arbitrary number of coordinates, and momentum operators, in an arbitrary order. For such an operator, in the standard approach, one expresses coordinate and momentum operators as a linear combination of the creation and annihilation operators, and then uses the antinormal ordering to obtain the final form of the symbol. In our method, one obtains the Husimi symbol in a much more straightforward fashion, departing directly from operator explicit form without transforming it through creation and annihilation operators. With this method the mean values of some operators are found. It is shown how the Heisenberg and the Schrodinger-Robertson uncertainty relations, for position and momentum, are transformed under scale transformation (q; p) - GT (lambda q; lambda p). The physical sense of some states which can be constructed with this transformation is also discussed.

AB - The routine monitoring of the occupationally exposed individuals constitutes an integral part of radiation protection program implemented at the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences (INNV). The Individual monitoring service (IMS) at the INNV, accredited according to quality standard EN ISO/IEC 17025, is using Harshaw 6600 Plus automatic reader and thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD) from two manufacturers (Harshaw, RadPro international GmbH). Working procedures are implemented according to Technical Recommendations for Monitoring Individuals Occupationally Exposed to External Radiation, RP 160 (European Commission, 2009). Among general consideration, RP 160 is suggesting that routine calibration of dosimetry system should be performed taking into consideration secondary charged particle equilibrium. As TLD system in use at IMS INNV comprises of TLD reader and of TLD cards, this consideration should be applied in both cases: when the reader and the TLD cards are being calibrated. During reader calibration, secondary charged particle equilibrium can be ensured using build-up PMMA plate of certain thickness placed in front of dosimeters. In this paper, influence of the build-up plate on reader calibration is being analyzed. This influence is observed through changes in reader calibration factor (RCF). RCF values obtained during reader calibration procedure with and without 2 mm thick build-up plate are presented. Exposures of whole body TLDs placed on slab phantom were done with Cs-137 radiation source located at Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL) at INNV. TLDs from both manufacturers had 2 detectors for measuring the dose equivalent at the depths of 10 mm and 0.07 mm. TLD reader was calibrated to measure effective dose in terms of Hp(10) and local skin dose in terms of Hp(0.07). RCF values for detectors measuring Hp(10), from both manufacturers, when irradiated without the plate were around 5% higher than RCF values obtained when irradiations were done with the plate. Values of RCFs for detectors measuring Hp(0.07) were around 1% higher when the plate had not been used. As RCF value is inversely proportional to measured dose, reader calibration without build-up plate, in terms of Hp(10), would lead to underestimated dose values. The observed RCF deviation of Hp(0.07) detector is regarded as consequence of exposure conditions uncertainties. In conclusion, if a constant geometry and constant operational conditions of TLDs are achieved, the only part of the TLD system that is not stable for a long time period is the TLD reader. To avoid inaccurate results, RCF should be orderly checked and reader calibration should be done according to widely accepted standards, currently in effect.

abstract = "The routine monitoring of the occupationally exposed individuals constitutes an integral part of radiation protection program implemented at the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences (INNV). AB - We propose a new method for calculating Husimi symbols of operators. In contrast to the standard method, it does not require using the anti-normal-ordering procedure. According to this method, the coordinate and momentum operators (q) over cap and (p) over cap are assigned other operators (X) over cap and (P) over cap satisfying the same commutation relations. We then find the result of acting with the (X) over cap and (P) over cap operators and also polynomials in these operators on the Husimi function. After the obtained expression is integrated over the phase space coordinates, the integrand becomes a Husimi function times the symbol of the operator chosen to act on that function. We explicitly evaluate the Husimi symbols for operators that are powers of (X) over cap or (P) over cap.

AB - The aim of this work was to investigate the different types of radiation detectors commonly used for radiation protection purposes as survey meters. The study was performed on survey meters that use different detectors as ionisation chamber, Geiger Mueller (GM) counter and scintillation detector. For each survey meter, energy dependence and angular response in X-and gamma-radiation fields was tested. The following commercially available survey meters were investigated: ionisation chambers Victoreen 451P, Babyline 31 and VA-J-15A, Geiger counter MRK-M87, 6150 AD6 and FAG FH 40F2 and scintillation counter 6150 ADB. As a source of gamma radiation, Cs-137 and Co-60 were used whereas X-ray radiation fields were generated using an X-ray unit. The radiation characteristics of the survey meters were mostly in compliance with references estimated by standard IEC 1017-2. However, some of them showed larger deviation at lower energies. GM counters exhibit strong energy dependence for low-energy photons.

A method to estimate the annual mean concentration when one seasonal measurement is missing is proposed. Large differences of radon concentrations in different rooms of the same house and significant difference in radon concentrations in one season comparing it to the others are noted in certain cases. Geological factors that can lead to such behavior are discussed. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

AB - Husimi function originated in phase space formulation of quantum mechanics. This function appears naturally whenever simultaneous measurement of coordinate and impulse with maximal accuracy allowed by the Heisenberg uncertainty relation is performed on a given quantum state and it represents the probability distribution for simultaneous unsharp measurement of coordinate and impulse. Husimi function may analogously be defined for any pair of conjugated variables. In analysis of time varying signals these variables are time and frequency. In this paper we consider Husimi function in time-frequency space, we derive some properties of the function and give time-frequency analysis of some characteristic signals.

AB - Frequency selective narrowband measurement of electromagnetic field level is one of the generally accepted methods for estimating exposure to nonionizing radiation. This method is especially needed when there are several sources of nonionizing radiation on measuring site (often very close in frequnecy) and it is necessary to separate their influence on population. In order to perform good quality measurments, it is needed to know all the relevant facts about measuring equipment and also as many details as possible about the source of nonionizing radiation whose electromagnetic field is measured. In this paper we will give an example and analysis of frequency selective narrowband measurement of nonionizing radiation in which handheld spectrum analyzer is used as a measuring device and a software radio transmitter as a source.

AB - In the treatment of Ba-133 decay by the method of coincidence summing, the transitions to the first two excited states of Cs-133 were ignored in former works. By applying the most accurate values for these transitions available in literature, we include them into the count rate equations and obtain solutions for the corresponding system. As a result of this more accurate forming of count rate equations, some terms, which contain previously ignored transition probabilities, turn out to be more significant than the conventionally included terms. We show that their inclusion in the system of count rate equations leads to fine improvements in the determinations of detection efficiencies and the activity of the Ba-133 source. AB - Positive operator valued measures representing phase observables for systems with arbitrary discrete, possibly degenerate, spectra are constructed. The general construction is presented and discussed using illustrative examples. The phase POVM shows intricate discontinuous dependence on the eigenfrequencies. Special discussion is devoted to the systems with degenerate energy spectrum, in which case the phase observable is nonunique. We present arguments that can be used to reduces this nonuniqueness.

AB - A physical and mathematical model identifies similarities between phosphocholine-binding antibodies.A methodology based on the representation of each amino acid of a protein sequence by the electron-ion interaction potential and subsequent analysis by signal processing was used to determine the characteristic or common frequency (in Hz) that reflects the biological activity shared among phosphocholine (PC)-binding antibodies. The common frequency for the variable portion of the heavy chain (VH) of the PC-specific antibodies is found to be at f 0.37 Hz. The VH sequences of the PC-binding antibodies exhibit three subsites for the PC moiety where hypervariable region 2 (CDR2) plays a role in the interaction with the phosphate group. Mutations in this VH region have an impact on the ability of mutant variants to bind PC and its carrier molecule, as well as on the characteristic frequency shift toward f 0.12 Hz for mutants failing to bind both hapten and carrier. The VH sequence of mutants that retain the ability to bind PC still shows f 0.37 Hz, suggesting that this frequency determines PC binding. However, this statement was not confirmed as mutation in another PC subsite impairs PC binding but retains both the phosphate-group recognition and the frequency at f 0.37 Hz. Herein, this finding is discussed to promote the idea that the VH sequence of the PC-binding antibodies encodes the subsite for phosphate-group binding as a dominant functional activity and that only CDR2 of the T15-idiotype antibodies together with FR3 region form an autonomous self-association function represented by the T15VH5073 peptide with f 0.370.05 Hz. Thus, these data confirmed that T15VH50-73 peptide might be used in superantibody technology.
