Drugi korak u postupku sinteze predstavljala je hidrotermalna transformacija sintetisanih nanotuba u prisustvu jona dopanta, u krajnji produkt tj. dopirane nanočestice TiO2. Primena ove metode omogućava sintezu nanočestica različitih veličina i oblika jednostavnom optimizacijom početnih uslova sinteze (promenom početne koncentracije nanotuba Ti(IV) oksida, pH vrednosti sredine, vremena trajanja hidrotermalnog tretmana i temperature).Rad se tematski može podeliti u dve celine:1. Sinteza i karakterizacija nanočestica TiO2 dopiranih jonima retkih zemalja (Eu3+ i Sm3+); Sinteza i karakterizacija nanočestica TiO2 dopiranih jonima prelaznih metala (Ni2+ i Cu2+)...
AB - The subject of this PhD thesis is the synthesis of rare earth (Eu3+ and Sm3+) and transition metal (Ni2+ and Cu2+) ions doped TiO2 nanoparticles of different shapes and sizes by a novel method and their structural, optical and magnetic characterization.Sm3+, Eu3+, Ni2+ and Cu2+ doped TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrothermal method using dispersions of titania nanotubes in the presence of dopant ions, as precursors. Using hydrothermal transformation of nanotubes in the presence of dopant ions, the problems related to the nucleation stage and consequently self-purification of doped nanocrystals, that occur when molecular precursors used, could be avoided. Synthesis of doped TiO2 nanoparticles that are subject of this PhD thesis included a two-step procedure. Namely, the first step is the synthesis of precursor titania nanotubes by hydrothermal treatment of dispersion of commercial TiO2 powder. The effects of changes of the hydrothermal synthesis conditions on the shape, size and crystal structure of resulting nanotubes were investigated. The second step in the synthetic procedure is hydrothermal transformation of as synthesized nanotubes in the presence of dopant ions into the final product, i.e. doped TiO2 nanoparticles. The use of such synthetic procedure enables the formation of doped nanoparticles of different sizes and shapes, simply by optimization of the initial synthetic conditions (changes in concentration of nanotubes in dispersion, or pH value of dispersion, or duration of hydrothermal treatment and temperature).Subject of this work can be divided into two main units:1. Synthesis and characterization of rare earth ions (Eu3+ and Sm3+) doped TiO2 nanoparticles;2. Synthesis and characterization of transition metal ions (Ni2+ and Cu2+) doped TiO2 nanoparticles...

AB - The structural and luminescent properties of Ca2Y8(SiO4)(6)O-2 (CYS) silicate based oxyapatite doped with Eu3+ ions have been reported in this paper. The sample was synthesized using reflux method assisted by urea subsequent degradation. Very specific, shell- and and rope-like morphologies were observed by SEM. The powder X-ray diffraction study revealed that the Eu3+ : CYS system crystallized in a hexagonal lattice structure (space group P63/m) characteristic of oxyapatite. In the host oxyapatite structure, a partial replacement of Ca2+ and Y3+ ions by luminescent active Eu3+ ions have been done, and its photoluminescent spectra were analyzed. The performed analysis indicate the presence of Eu3+ ions in both, nine-fold coordinated 4f, and seven-fold coordinated 6h sites, showing a slight shift towards the blue area in comparison to a typical spectra of other yttrium-silicate phases as hosts.

AB - The kinetics of thermal degradation of polystyrene/Fe(2)O(3) composites was studied by dynamic thermogravimetry. The samples were heated in nitrogen atmosphere, applying three different heating rates 5, 20, and 40 degrees C/min. We calculated kinetic parameters using modified KAS isoconversional method. Results showed that polystyrene in all composites has higher thermal degradation activation energies compared to pure polystyrene. Maximal activation energy of thermal degradation is achieved for PS/Fe(2)O(3) composite with about 10% of filler. Vyazovkin model-free method was used to predict thermal degradation parameters.

AB - Calcium hydroxyapatite (CHA) formation was produced by biomimetic deposition on the surfaces of silica layers of the steel bands, using slightly modified simulated body fluid (SBF). The used SBF had a pH value of 7.4 and a similar ionic composition like human plasma. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy-attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR) method was used to analyse obtained phases on the surfaces of silica films after various times of sample soaking in SBF. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) investigations pointed out the mechanism of CHA nucleation. Mass changes investigations of the CHA thin films showed that the depth of CHA films was dependent on the aging time of silica substrate in SBF.

AB - Incorporation of inorganic nanoparticles can significantly affect the properties of the polymer matrix. The properties of polymer nanocomposites depend on the type of incorporated nanoparticles, their size and shape, their concentration, and interactions with the polymer matrix. Homogeneity of polymer nanocomposites is influenced very much by the preparation method. In this study, TiO2 nanoparticles surface modified with 6-palmitate ascorbic acid (6-PAA) were encapsulated in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) by in situ radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate initiated by 2,2-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN). The surface modification of the TiO2 nanoparticles was achieved by the formation of a charge transfer complex between TiO2 nanoparticles and 6-palmitate ascorbic acid. The radical polymerization of MMA in the presence of TiO2-PAA nanoparticles was conducted in solution (PMMA/TiO2-PAA-R), in bulk (PMMA/TiO2-PAA-M) or in suspension (PMMA/TiO2-PAA-S). The main purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the preparation method on the molar masses and thermal properties of PMMA/TiO2-PAA nanocomposite. It was obtained that molar masses of PMMA extracted from the composites had smaller values compared to molar masses of pure PMMA synthesized in the same manner, which indicated that TiO2-PAA nanoparticles affected the reaction of termination. Thermal properties were investigated by DSC and TGA. The values of glass transition temperature, T-g, were influenced by the way the radical polymerization was conducted, even in the case of the pure PMMA. The Tp(g) of composite samples was always smaller than the value of the corresponding PMMA sample and the smallest value was obtained for PMMA/TiO2- PAA-M since they contained the largest amount of low molar mass residue. The TGA results showed that thermal and thermooxidative stability of polymer composites obtained in solution and in suspension was better than for the pure PMMA obtained in the same way.

abstract = "Incorporation of inorganic nanoparticles can significantly affect the properties of the polymer matrix. The TGA results showed that thermal and thermooxidative stability of polymer composites obtained in solution and in suspension was better than for the pure PMMA obtained in the same way.",

AB - Surface modified silver nanoparticles dispersed in chloroform were encapsulated in poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) by in-situ radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate initiated by 2,2-azobisisobutyronitrile. The particle size distribution of colloidal silver nanoparticles was determined using transmission electron microscopy. The obtained transparent nanocomposite films were characterized using UV-vis spectroscopy, (1)H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. Effective medium Maxwell-Garnett theory was used in order to explain optical properties of nanocomposite films taking into account inhomogeneous spatial distribution of silver nanoparticles in PMMA matrix. The influence of the silver nanoparticles on the thermal properties of the PMMA matrix was investigated using thermo-gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. Thermo-oxidative stability of the PMMA in the presence of low content of inorganic phase is significantly improved. The glass transition temperatures of nanocomposites are slightly lower compared to the pure polymer. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

AB - Surface modification of nanocrystalline TiO2 particles (45 ) with bidentate benzene derivatives (catechol, pyrogallol, and gallic acid) was found to alter optical properties of nanoparticles. The formation of the inner-sphere charge-transfer complexes results in a red shift of the semiconductor absorption compared to unmodified nanocrystallites. The binding structures were investigated by using FTIR spectroscopy. The investigated ligands have the optimal geometry for chelating surface Ti atoms, resulting in ring coordination complexes (catecholate type of binuclear bidentate binding-bridging) thus restoring in six-coordinated octahedral geometry of surface Ti atoms. From the Benesi-Hildebrand plot, the stability constants at pH 2 of the order 10(3) M-1 have been determined.

AB - The thermal degradation kinetics of polystyrene/CdS composites were studied by thermogravimetry. The samples were heated in nitrogen, with three different heating rates: 5, 20 and 40 degrees C min(-1). We calculated kinetic parameters using KAS isoconversion method. The results showed that the maximum activation energy of thermal degradation is achieved for PS/CdS composite with about 10% of the CdS filler. Higher concentration of CdS in the composite (20%) induced acceleration of the thermal degradation, approaching the rate of degradation of the pure polystyrene matrix. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. AB - In this study, the influence of dyeing on the antibacterial efficiency of polyamide and polyester fabrics loaded with colloidal Ag nanoparticles and the influence of the presence of Ag nanoparticles on the color change of dyed fabrics were investigated. Dyes C.I. acid green 25 and C.I. disperse blue 3 were used for dyeing of polyamide fabrics, while dye C.I. disperse violet 8 was used for dyeing of polyester fabrics. The influence of Ag nanoparticles on the color change of polyamide fabrics depends on the dye type, but generally it was lower compared to polyester fabrics. Polyester fabrics exhibited excellent antibacterial efficiency against Gram-positive bacterium Slaphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli, independent of the order of dyeing and Ag loading. Polyamide fabrics provided a desirable level of antibacterial activity only if the Ag loading was performed after dyeing.

AB - Flower-like agglomerates with sizes of 200-400 nm of pure and Fe3+-doped TiO2 with rutile crystalline structure were synthesized by the coprecipitation method. The morphology of the agglomerates was determined by electron microscopy (TEM and HRTEM). TiO2 agglomerates consist of nanorods with clearly visible crystalline faces, parallel to the axis of elongation whose direction was along the [101] direction of pure TiO2 and the [111] direction of doped TiO2. Furthermore, nanorods consist of chains of spherical particles, most likely interconnected through the so-called oriented attachment or grain-rotation-induced grain coalescence (GRIGC) process. UV/Vis reflection measurements revealed that the absorption of pure TiO2 was significantly shifted from UV toward the visible spectral region upon the incorporation of Fe3+ into the TiO2 host.

AB - The optical properties of silver nanoparticles embedded in poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) was investigated as well as the influence of silver nanoparticles on the thermal properties of polymer matrix. The average size and particle size distribution of silver nanoparticles was determined using transmission electron microscopy. The obtained transparent nanocomposite films were optically characterized using UV-Vis and FTIR spectroscopy. Thermal stability of polymer matrix was improved upon incorporation of small amount of silver nanoparticles. Also, silver nanoparticles have pronounced effect on thermo-oxidative stability of PMMA matrix. The glass transition temperatures of nanocomposites are lower compared to the pure polymer.

AB - Global trends in the textile industry are shifted towards manufacturing of high-added value
products such as medical, protective and smart textiles [1]. The recent production growth in these
areas renewed the interest for antibacterial finishing of textile materials. Simultaneously, the
great progress in development of controlled synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) and their numerous
potential applications opened up new possibilities for engineering the advanced properties of
textile materials [2-3]. Various nanometer-sized metal and metal oxide particles can provide
antibacterial properties [4-9], but silver NPs seem to be particularly attractive due to excellent
antibacterial efficiency of silver itself known for a long time. The application of silver
nanoparticles in the antibacterial finishing of textiles is favorable due to their stability and high
surface to volume ratio, which provides significant bactericidal efficiency.
This study was aimed to highlight the possibility of using the corona treatment for fibre surface
activation, which can facilitate the efficient loading of silver NPs from colloid onto the
polyamide (PA) fabrics creating the stable composite system with improved antibacterial
properties. Bactericidal efficiency and laundering durability of silver loaded fabrics against
Gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli
were evaluated. Elsewhere, the influence of silver NPs on color change of fabrics dyed with acid
dye C.I. acid green 25 and disperse dye C.I. disperse blue 3 was studied, too. Additionally, the
influence of dyeing on antibacterial efficiency of silver loaded fabrics was determined.

AB - The nanocomposite consisting of PbS quantum dots with average diameter of 26 A and polyvinyl alcohol was characterized using photoluminescence and far-infrared spectroscopy. Photoluminescence spectra of nanocomposite, measured in temperature range from 8 to 280 K, consists of broad peak which spans the energy range from 1.2 to 2.1 eV and can be connected with trap states inside the band gap. Far-infrared measurements are consistent with theoretical calculations that include mechanical boundary conditions at the quantum dot - host interface. Observed peak at 90 cm(-1) can be assigned to coupled modes with l(p) = 1, while broad peak at 275 cm(-1) is above any lattice frequency and is close to sum of the frequencies of the l(p) = 0 acoustic and l(p) = 0 coupled optical mode of PbS quantum dots. AB - The influence of shape and dielectric property of surrounding media on surface plasmon absorption band of silver nanoparticles was studied. Spherical silver nanoparticles (d = 5.6 nm) synthesized in water using NaBH4 as a reducing agent are transferred in non-polar solvent (chloroform) with phase-transfer reagent oleylamine. The absorption spectrum of oleylamine-capped silver nanoparticles dispersed in chloroform shows a strong surface plasmon resonance band that is 19 nm red-shifted compared to unmodified particles in water. The values for peak position and corresponding half widths are compared with theoretical calculations based on Mie theory. Prismatic and plate-like silver nanoparticles were synthesized in water using trisodium citrate as a reducing agent and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as stabilizer. Due to structural anisotropy of prismatic and plate-like silver nanoparticles three surface plasmon resonance bands were observed in absorption spectrum. Nanocomposites consisting of non-spherical silver nanoparticles and polyvinyl alcohol exhibit different optical properties compared to water colloid. Instead of three surface plasmon bands, nanocomposite film has only one peak at 460 nm. Reason for appearance of single surface plasmon resonance band in nanocomposite film was discussed according to Maxwell-Garnet theory.

AB - We present here the synthesis procedure for obtaining Zn2SiO4:M2+ (M = Mn, Ni, Co) powder based on the combination of so-gel and combustion methods. Combustion is performed both in a conventional furnace and in a microwave oven in order to evaluate the influence of combustion conditions on the properties of synthesized material. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed that obtained material has crystallized in rhombohedral structure of Zn2SiO4 (willemite) with traces of ZnO. The effects of combustion conditions are investigated further by means of thermogravimetric analysis, differential thermal analysis, infrared spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance optical spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Based on these results we could conclude that microwave combustion synthesis can be successfully applied for Zn2SiO4-based products.

AB - In this paper, a novel route for the synthesis of Y2SiO5 (YSO) nanoparticles doped with Eu3+ ions. based on the use of a hydrothermally prepared silica sol as a chemical precursor and nanostructurign template, is presented. X-ray powder diffraction revealed crystallization of nanoparticles in an X-1 monoclinic structural type (P2(l)/c) with well pronounced diffraction peaks and Without any sign of additional phases. Transmission electron microscopy showed that the particle diameter was around 40 nm and that the particles formed loose aggregates. The synthesized materials exhibited characteristic luminescence emission of the trivalent europium ion, with the strongest emission (D-5(0) - GT F-7(2) transition) at 611.5 nm and a corresponding lifetime of 1.8 ms. Two site occupancy, as expected, were demonstrated. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

AB - Yttrium-gadolinium-oxide phosphors are regarded promising host for many important optical applications, for example in medical diagnostic X-ray systems and plasma displays. In this work, we investigated the procedure for (Y0.75Gd0.25)(2)O-3:Eu3+ nanopowder synthesis using polymer complex solution (PCS) method based on polyethylene glycol (PEG) as fuel. Detailed information, on both the structure and luminescence, are obtained using X-ray powder diffraction, electron microscopy and luminescence spectroscopy. The synthesized powder consists of nanoparticles of about 36 nm in size, and has excellent structural ordering in cubic bixbyte structure (space group Ia3). Unit cell parameter, ionic coordinates, crystal coherence size and microstrains are determined from Rietveld analysis. Luminescence emission measurements show characteristic transition of the trivalent europium ion incorporated into insulating host. Splitting of the Stark components of the F-7(1) manifold is presented. D-5(0), D-5(1) and D-5(2) decay time values are measured to obtain information on different kinetic processes occurring for these three emitting levels.

AB - Modified combustion procedure, named as polymer complex solution method (PCS), was used for synthesis of CeO2 nanopowder. As fuel was employed polyethylene glycol (PEG) with average molecular weight 200. Post-synthesis thermal treatments were done at 800 degrees C for 2 hours. X-ray powder diffraction, electron microscopy (SEM and TEM), laser light scattering, infrared spectroscopy, UV-VIS diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and luminescence spectroscopy were used as characterization methods. The objectives were to investigate the structure and morphology of the synthesized powder, in particular the aggregation and particle size distribution, and its luminescence properties. Photoluminescent properties of CeO2 nanopowder were determined from its emission and excitation spectra. In the excitation spectra two lines were present: one at 322 nm and other at 356 nm. Two lines were also visible in the emission spectra, one at 427 nm and other at 492 nm. Violet emission placed at 427 nm and excitation at 356 nm corresponded to D-5(1) - GT F-4(1) transition of cerium trivalent ion. A UV-VIS diffuse reflectance spectrum shows the absorption edge at 375 nm. The observed spectral blue shift revealed the presence of fine crystallites which escape XRD detection. The presented results demonstrate that this simple preparation technique provides well crystallized nanoparticles of CeO2.

AB - The structure and optical properties, the luminescence, of the spherical SiO2:Eu3+ particles have been discussed. These particles were formed using the combination of precursor hydro-thermal synthesis and its ultrasound spray pyrolysis. By the synthesis itself a morphology and/or structural design (particle design) and sub-structural design (sub-particles design/sub-structural elements as the sols, the silicon chains and the tetrahedrons) were defined. The particle mean size and size distribution spectrum of the SiO2:Eu3+ systems were determined by the SEM analysis. The obtained results were compared with those derived from the theoretical model. Distribution uniformity and the size and morphology of the sol particles that constitute the SiO2:Eu3+ systems were determined by the TEM microscopy and by the DLS. The length and composition of silicon chain inside the silicon sol particles was determined using the TGA and the IRS. Optical properties were investigated using luminescence excitation and emission spectroscopy. The assembled results indicate the possibility of a particle structure designing of the SiI2:Eu3+ powder over a various hierarchical levels. (C) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

AB - A new method for the synthesis of disodium dimolybdate (Na2Mo2O7) in the process of ultrasonic spray pyrolysis using acidified aqueous solutions of thermodynamically stable molybdenum (VI) oxide clusters as a precursor is described. Na2Mo2O7 particles were collected in alcohols (ethanol, 2-propanol, isobutyl alcohol), and ultracentrifugation was used to isolate solid material from solution. Scanning electron microscopy revealed the formation of uniform spherical Na2Mo2O7 particles with an average diameter of about 0.25 mu m. The X-ray diffraction analysis undoubtedly confirmed the formation of orthorhombic Na2Mo2O7 for samples synthesized at a temperature as low as 300 degrees C.
