AB - Na0.25K0.25Bi0.5TiO3 (NKBT) perovskite particles are synthesized by solid-state method and used as a filler for polyvinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP) co-polymer. X-ray diffraction analysis of NKBT powders shows that the particles have a rhombohedral perovskite crystal structure (R3c symmetry). Raman spectroscopy reveals that the co-polymer crystallizes predominantly into the mixture of polar β- and γ-crystals, while there is also a contribution of the non-polar α-crystal phase. The introduction of the NKBT into the PVDF-HFP results with an increase in effective dielectric permittivity and this effect depends on the inorganic content in the composite. The most interesting result of the present study is that the introduction of NKBT particles induces the appearance of an additional transition peak in the dielectric spectra of the co-polymer matrix. At the fixed frequency of ~2 kHz, the observed process appears at ~10 °C (about 45° above the glass transition temperature) and its magnitude strongly depends on the amount of the NKBT in the composite. Dielectric spectroscopy measurements of the composites are carried out in the wide range of frequencies (from 0.1 Hz to 1 MHz) and temperatures (from −100 to 100 °C). They reveal that the novel process can be clearly distinguished in the frequency range between 160 Hz and ~50 kHz. © 2021 The Authors

AB - The hydrolytic stability of two nano-SiO2-based UF composites with derivates of coumarin (names as K-1 and K-2) was investigated. K-1 is 3-nitro-4-(p-tolylamino)-2H-chromen-2-one and K-2: 4-((3-nitro-2-oxo-2H-chromen-4-yl)amino)benzenesulfonamide. Two types of nano-silica-based urea–formaldehyde (UF), composite materials with a formaldehyde-to-urea (F/U) ratio of 0.8, were synthesized (UF/K-1/SiO2, and UF/K-2/SiO2). The hydrolytic stability of modified UF composite was determined by measuring the mass loss and liberated formaldehyde concentration of modified UF composite after acid hydrolysis. Obtained results showed that the hydrolytic stability of modified resins with derivates of coumarin was enhanced. The formaldehyde emission of modified UF/K-1/SiO2 composite is lower compared with UF/K-2/SiO2 composite. The thermal behavior of materials was studied by non-isothermal thermo-gravimetric analysis and differential thermal gravimetry supported by data from ATR-IR spectroscopy. The shift of temperature values for selected mass losses (T5%) to a high temperature indicates the increase in thermal stability of samples based on UF resin modified with K-2. © 2020, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

AB - Simultaneous thermal analysis (TG–DTA) of low-rank coals from different annual periods (2015 and 2018) which originate from Kolubara and Nikola Tesla A (TENT A) coal-fired power plants was studied to identify their combustion characteristics and self-ignition risks. In order to investigate kinetics of thermo-oxidative degradation, model-free models including the Friedman and Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose methods were applied. In accordance with obtained kinetic results, numerical optimization of combustion process was implemented. Homogeneous and heterogeneous types of ignition were identified for the tested coals, and factors that affect their occurrence are the used heating rate and volatile matter content. From thermal susceptibility graph, it was found that the tested coals expand in a wide range of self-ignition risk, depending on their coal rank. The youngest coal (TENT A (2018)) has the largest propensity to self-ignite among high-ranking coals. It was found that less tendency of 2018 coals to show true isokinetic temperature in comparison with 2015 coals is a consequence of intraparticle diffusion limitations, and change of char properties, at higher conversion values. Gamma spectrometry analysis of coals showed that higher concentration of 40K radionuclide (which is in mineral composition) may contribute through its deposition on available sites, decreasing surface area for reaction with oxidizing species. © 2020, Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

AB - Hexagonal ZnIn2S4 is synthesized by simple and low-cost hydrothermal route. TEM images revealed formation of nanosheets. The estimated band-gap energy of synthesized sample is in the visible spectral region and has a value of about 2.25 eV. Photocatalytic properties of synthesized sample are probed in photocatalytic degradation of three selected dyes different in nature and structure, Rhodamine B (RhB), Methylene blue (MB) and Methyl orange (MO), under the illumination with simulated Solar light. Obtained results revealed that photocatalytic degradation of RhB and MO is mainly result of synergic effect of photogenerated holes and oxygen, while primary effect in ZnIn2S4/MB system is bleaching of the dye, but no photodegradation was observed. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

AB - Pure and a series of Fe3+ doped zirconia nanopowders were synthesized combining colloidal chemistry and solvothermal method from organometallic precursors in order to correlate doping and properties of zirconia matrix. After annealing of washed nanopowders at 600 °C, detailed characterization was performed using X-ray diffraction, UV/Vis absorption and luminescence, infrared and electron paramagnetic spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and BET measurements. Zirconia samples had mixed monoclinic and tetragonal crystalline phase; increasing Fe3+ ions concentration was followed by increasing of tetragonal phase share. In the sample with highest Fe3+ concentration, hematite can be detected. Also, UV/Vis spectrophotometry showed that Fe3+ doping lowers effective band gap of zirconia matrix from 4.5 eV (bulk value) to 2.1 eV for doped/nanocomposite samples. EPR measurements proved presence of dopant and showed that isolated Fe3+ ions in zirconia matrix exist in both crystalline phases; monoclinic and tetragonal (g 4.8 and g 4.27–4.2, respectively) surroundings. Zirconia samples were also successfully used as photocatalysts for photocatalytic degradation of 2, 4, 6, trichlorophenol. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

AB - TiO2 prolatenanospheroids (PNSs) may be photosensitizers (PSs), which act by catalyzation of hydroxyl radical (∙OH) formation upon light illumination. ∙OH might, in turn, contribute to killing of cancer cells. On the other hand, there is great concern about toxicity in the dark of TiO2 nanoparticles in general. In this work, we have investigated the biocompatibility of TiO2 PNSs of the anatase crystal form (length between 100 and 300 nm and width 50 nm) in the dark with immune cells and light-induced cytotoxicity on several cancer cell lines. The effects of the treatment of different cell lines with several concentrations of TiO2 PNSs suspensions showed the specifics of cells’ viability and the intracellular localization. The results of in vitro studies obtained by cytotoxicity assays adjusted to individual cell lines’ metabolism point towards the biocompatibility of TiO2 PNSs at low and moderate concentrations in the dark, which neither kill the cells, nor induce activation of the immune system cells. Laser scanning confocal microscopy revealed that PNSs are taken up by cells, and insight into the intracellular distribution was obtained in this study.

AB - The red phosphor Y2Mo4O15:Eu3+ calcined at different temperatures is obtained by a solid-state method, and is investigated in this article. Usage of solid-state method with the combination of five different calcination temperatures (500, 550, 600, 650, and 700 °C) leads to the formation of pure monoclinic phase in all samples apart from the one calcined at the lowest temperature. Crystallite size obtained by Rietveld refinement is in the range of 38–55 nm. Scanning electron microscopy analysis confirms the presence of agglomerates. Luminescence emission spectra and emission decay curves are measured for all pure samples, and parameters derived from these measurements are used for Judd–Ofelt analysis. International commission on illumination (CIE) chromaticity diagram confirms the presence of pure red emission and high quantum efficiency. © 2019 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim

We give our perspective on the current status of the topic, and the main attention is focused on lanthanide ion (Ln3+)–activated orthovanadate-based nanostructured luminescent materials, downconversion and upconversion ones, and their reported chemical syntheses, crystal structures, and photoluminescence properties along with applications as phosphors, both existing and potential, are fully considered. In particular, downconversion and upconversion phosphors based on Ln3+-doped GdVO4 and upconversion phosphors of BiVO4, LaVO4, YbVO4, and LuVO4 are described in far more detail.

AB - Thermal degradation properties of 5-(4-substitutedphenylazo)-3-amido-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pyridones and 5-(4-substitutedphenylazo)-3-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pyridones dyes, differing in electron withdrawing and electron donating substituents in para-position of diazo components were examined. The structure of the synthesized compounds has been confirmed by 1H NMR,13C NMR, FTIR, UV–Vis and XRD analysis techniques. The results obtained with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) – derivative thermogravimetry (DTG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) were combined with GC-mass spectral fragmentation to obtain thermal decomposition mechanism. Non-isothermal kinetics were monitored by application of TGA-DTG-DTA. For Kinetic behavior of the investigated dyes during their degradation in an inert atmosphere, Kissinger, Ozawa, Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO) and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) isoconversional (model-free) methods were applied. It was found that different thermal stabilities of investigated dyes are the consequence of their different chemical structures, including diverse substituents. © 2019

AB - The thermal stability of organic-inorganic nano-composites prepared by a two-stage polymerization of urea-formaldehyde resin (UF) with furfuryl alcohol (FA) and TiO2 before and after irradiation has been researched. The two resins of urea-formaldehyde–TiO2 composites, named: UF/TiO2 and UF/TiO2/FA, were synthesized. The thermal stability of obtained materials was studied by non-isothermal thermo-gravimetric analysis (TG), differential thermal gravimetry (DTG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). UF hybrid composites have been irradiated (50 kGy) and after that their radiation stability was evaluated on the basis of thermal behavior. The free formaldehyde (HCOH) percentage in all prepared samples was determined. The minimum percentage values of free formaldehyde (0.04% and 0.03%) for UF/TiO2 and UF/TiO2/FA, respectively, after irradiation dose of 50 kGy are detected. The shift of temperature values for selected mass losses (T10%) to a high temperature indicates the increase in thermal stability of samples based on UF resin modified with FA.

AB - The powder recycled rubber (PRR) can be used as a filler and a modifier for elastomeric materials and asphalt. Composites based on elastomers and recycled rubber powders are a serious challenge for the environment. The main goal of this paper was to study the effect of rubber powder on the mechanical properties of elastomeric composites based on three precursors of the network. Triple blends were prepared using non-polar natural rubber (NR), polyisoprene rubber (BR), and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) (mass ratio 40/40/20). In all rubber compounds, the carbon black (CB)/PRR mass ratio is constant (60). Samples were prepared using two roll mill. The characteristics of hardening (optimum cure time, scorch time, minimum and maximum torque) of rubber mixtures were tested. Tensile strength, modulus at 100% elongation and elongation at break are decreasing with PRR ratio is increasing. It is due to poor adhesion of PRR into NR/BR/SBR/CB matrix. The thermal degradation temperature shifts to a higher temperature up to 5 phr of PRR in NR/BR/SBR/CB rubber blends. Fourier-transform infrared spectra of NR/BR/SBR/CB/PRR samples show that the absorption bands shifted 7–15 cm−1 to higher wavenumbers and confirmed rubber–filler interaction. Morphology was assessed by scanning electron microscopy. POLYM. COMPOS., 40:1307–1314, 2019. © 2018 Society of Plastics Engineers. © 2018 Society of Plastics Engineers

AB - In this applicative work, two types of silica filler were used to increase the adhesion strength between steel and elastomeric hybrid materials based on chlorosulfonated polyethylene rubber (CSM) and polychloroprene rubber (CR) as network precursors. Precipitated silica (PS) with the average size of primary particles 15 nm and diatomaceous earth (DE) with the average size of primary particles 28 μm were used to ascertain differences in metal-elastomer compounds adhesion strength caused by different particle size. The ratio of network precursors in CSM/CR rubber blends was 50:50 (w/w). The filler loading was in the range of 0–35 phr. Characteristics of the obtained composites were examined by combining the cure kinetics, adhesion strength and the dynamic mechanical properties. The viscoelasticity of obtained hybrid materials was assessed by the mechanical spectrometer (in a single cantilever bending mode) in the temperature range from −50 °C to 150 °C using multifrequency mode. AB - Hydrothermal synthesis of Mn2+ doped titanate nanotubes (TNTs), which exhibited room temperature ferromagnetism (RTFM), is reported. Dispersions of 1 and 5 at.% Mn2+ doped anatase TiO2 nanocrystals were used as precursors. Size and shape of Mn2+ doped TNTs and precursor nanocrystals were studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The relatively uniform size distribution of transverse dimension of nanotubes of about 10 nm was observed while their lengths varied up to few hundred nanometers. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis and Raman spectroscopy of resultant powder confirmed the hydrogen dititanate (H2Ti2O5 x H2O) crystal phase of Mn2+ doped TNTs with the presence of small amount of sodium titanates. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments were performed to probe the local atomic and electronic structure of Mn in the nanotubes. Room temperature ferromagnetic ordering with saturation magnetic moment (Ms) in the range of 0.6–1.5 μB per Mn atom was observed. © 2019 Elsevier Masson SAS

AB - There is a need for developing new and perspective materials for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) as one of the most essential reactions in the life processes, energy storage, and conversion, in order to exchange the most often used materials based on platinum supported/unsupported substrates, especially carbon supports. Herein, we present low-cost alternative electrode materials consisting of two silver@polyvinylpyrrolidone-polyaniline (Ag@PVP-PANI) nanocomposites that showed great potential as Pt-free ORR electrocatalysts. Simple and effective polymerization processes of aniline in the methanol, using PVP as shape-mediated stabilizator and stimulator of its oxidation by silver ions, led to the formation of nanocomposites with truncated triangular silver nanoparticles dispersed throughout granular and wrinkle-like surfaces of PANI matrix. The behavior of PVP chains in acidic conditions showed great influence on nanocomposites’ conductivities, regardless of the high silver content. Electrocatalytic survey of nanocomposites examined in alkaline media toward ORR pointed out their appreciable activities with high ORR onset potentials. Moreover, for the nanocomposite with lower silver content (18.9 wt. %), the four-electron ORR pathway was evidenced. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

AB - The antioxidant properties of cool-climate Regent wines from Podkarpacie region, Poland were investigated. Total polyphenols, total flavonoids, total monomeric anthocyanins, trans-resveratrol concentration, radical scavenging ability using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) and total antioxidant capacity with TEAC and FRAP methods were measured. The average contents of the compounds determined for Regent wines were comparable to the respective data available in literature found for warm-climate wines. Correspondence Analysis of the data revealed the relation of total polyphenols content and antioxidant capacity and radical scavenging ability of studied wines, and in lesser extent correlation with total flavonoids content. The total monomeric anthocyanins content and resveratrol concentration were poorly related to the total polyphenols content and antioxidant capacity.

AB - This study discusses the possibility of fabrication of textile nanocomposites with antimicrobial activity against antibiotics-resistant bacterial strains and yeast. Modification of cotton fabric with oxalic acid solutions of different concentrations provided free carboxyl groups for binding of Cu2+ -ions from copper (II) sulfate solution which were further reduced with sodium borohydride in alkaline solution. An increase in the concentration of applied oxalic acid resulted in larger amounts of free carboxyl groups on the cotton fibers, Cu2+ -ions uptake and total amounts of Cu-based nanoparticles after reduction. XPS and XRD analyses suggested that nanoparticles mainly consisted of CuO with fractions of Cu2O. Fabricated textile nanocomposites ensured maximum reduction of Gram-negative E. coli ATCC 25922, E. coli NCTC 13846, E. coli ATCC BAA-2469, K. pneumoniae ATCC-BAA 2146 and P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Gram-positive bacteria S. aureus ATCC 25923 and S. aureus ATCC 43300 and yeast C. albicans ATCC 24433. Additionally, controlled release of Cu2+ -ions from fabrics into the physiological saline solution was obtained within 24 hours. © 2019, The Korean Fiber Society.

AB - Two gold nanorod-polyaniline (Au-PANI) composites with different contents of Au were prepared by two methods. An ex situ method, in the presence of preformed gold nanorods (AuNRs) and in situ one, when an AuNRs and PANI matrix is produced simultaneously, were used. Both methods were performed in immiscible water/toluene biphasic system as a simple interfacial polymerization process. Optical, structural and morphological characteristics of the formed nanocomposites were identified. It was found that AuNRs are embedded in the conducting emeraldine salt form of PANI. Nanocomposites containing 2.0 and 28.9 wt% of Au were subsequently systematically studied for borohydride oxidation reaction (BOR) for potential application in direct borohydride-peroxide fuel cell (DBPFC). Reaction parameters: number of electrons exchanged, order of reaction and activation energy, were evaluated. Both Au-PANI nanocomposites showed activity for BOR. A laboratory DBPFC was tested reaching specific peak power density of 184 Wg(-1) at 65 degrees C with Au-PANI 1 nanocomposite (containing only 2.0 wt% of Au) as anode.

AB - This report focuses on fabrication, characterization, and fundamental optical properties of Eu 3+ - and Sm 3+ -doped GdVO 4 luminescent thin films. Films were uniformly grown on three different substrates: single crystal sapphire (0001), thermally grown silicon oxide (Si/SiO 2 ~ 500 nm) on silicon and fused quartz using pulsed laser deposition technique. Thin films’ structure, morphology, and photoluminescent properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction, atomic force and scanning electron microscopy, diffuse reflectance and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Thin films’ structure characterized by X-ray diffraction showed that for all substrates highly crystalline, zircon-type pure phase films were formed. Films’ thickness and internal morphology were determined by cross-sectional scanning electron microscopy showing completely dense, pore-free film with an average thickness of ~ 390 nm. Atomic force microscopy revealed that the average crystallite size of both Eu 3+ - and Sm 3+ -doped GdVO 4 thin films deposited on fused quartz is higher as compared to the single crystal sapphire (0001) and thermally grown silicon oxide (Si/SiO 2 ~ 500 nm) and that the surface roughness increases with the increase in the grain size. Energy band gap values, estimated from diffuse reflectance spectra were 3.57 and 3.53 eV for Eu 3+ - and Sm 3+ -doped GdVO 4 thin films, respectively. Photoluminescent properties were investigated in detail in both steady state and lifetime domain. The emission spectra show clear orange–red emission in the Sm 3+ -doped GdVO 4 thin films and red emission in Eu 3+ -doped ones. © 2019, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

AB - EuPO4 and Eu3+-activated REPO4 (RE = La, Dy, Er) ultrasmall fluorescent nanoparticles (NPs) with an average diameter of 2.1 nm were prepared via colloidal synthesis and tested for sensing Cu2+ and other heavy-metal ions. The pure monoclinic monazite crystal structure (space group P121/n1) of the synthesized particles was confirmed using X-ray diffraction measurements, and transmission electron microscopy images showed round particles with a narrow particle-size distribution. The NPs exhibited intense red emission, which is characteristic of the f-f electronic transition of Eu3+, and the quenching of their emission in the presence of heavy-metal ions was revealed by dispersing colloidal particles in a TRIS buffer and then performing photoluminescence measurements. Strong quenching of the emission (at a rate of 0.195 μM−1) was observed upon the addition of Cu2+ ions over the concentration range of 0–10 μM with a limit of detection of 60 nM for Cu2+. The recovery of nearly 90% of the original emission intensity of the probe was achieved via the addition of ethylendiaminetetraacetic acid and was possible in five quenching/recovery cycles. © 2019

AB - Defect-fluorite structured Eu 3+ -doped Y 2 Sn 2 O 7 nanoparticles (30–40 nm) were successfully prepared through a facile co-precipitation method without any organic additives or templates followed by calcination in air. Luminescent properties of the as-prepared Y 2-x Eu x Sn 2 O 7 (0.02 ≤ x ≤ 0.6) nanophosphors were fully characterized from an experimental and theoretical point of view (excitation, emission, lifetime, critical concentration, temperature-dependent luminescence and thermal stability, type of interactions and the Judd-Ofelt analysis). The nanophosphors showed relatively sharp excitation bands from 360 to 530 nm and exhibited characteristic emission bands with the most intensive emission centered at 612 nm. In addition, Gd 1.98 Eu 0.02 Sn 2 O 7 and Lu 1.98 Eu 0.02 Sn 2 O 7 samples were prepared in order to study how substitution of RE 3+ (Y 3+ with Gd 3+ and Lu 3+ ions) influences on luminescent properties of RE 1.98 Eu 0.02 Sn 2 O 7 and thermal stability of their luminescence. In order to understand better luminescent properties, the Judd–Ofelt analysis was applied to all the synthesized powders. The highest value of quantum efficiency, ~96%, was estimated for Lu 1.98 Eu 0.02 Sn 2 O 7 . To assess potential application in high-power LEDs, the temperature-dependent emission spectra of Y 1.98 Eu 0.02 Sn 2 O 7 , Gd 1.98 Eu 0.02 Sn 2 O 7 and Lu 1.98 Eu 0.02 Sn 2 O 7 nanophosphors were studied. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

AB - The temperature sensing properties of an Er3+/Yb3+ co-doped GdVO4 nanocrystalline powder were studied. The down-conversion emission spectrum of the sample was observed under excitation at 457 nm. Two methods were used to calibrate the temperature of the sample: one based on the Fluorescence Intensity Ratio (FIR) technique and the other using the fluorescence lifetime of the thermally-coupled energy levels of Er3+. The relative sensitivities for each method were calculated and it was found out that the FIR-based temperature sensor has higher sensitivity (1.17% K−1) than the lifetime-based sensor (0.24% K−1). Furthermore, a temperature uncertainty of 0.37 K was obtained for the FIR-based sensor. The GdVO4 nanoparticles were also used to study the change in temperature of an electrical component when it is operating and not. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

AB - Monoclinic scheelite-type BiVO4 is currently considered as one of the most promising non-titania photocatalysts, wheras tetragonal zircon-type BiVO4 is still poorly understood. Herein, a new and simple synthetic approach was applied and nanostructured single-phase zircon-type BiVO4 was successfully prepared by a controllable ethylene-glycol colloidal route. In addition, nanostructured monoclinic scheelite-type BiVO4 powders were also fabricated through annealing of the as-prepared samples. A comparative study of the two BiVO4 polymorphs was conducted and it turned out that the novel synthetic approach had a significant impact on porosity and photocatalytic performance of zircon-structured BiVO4. All the prepared materials, as-prepared and annealed, were mesoporous, while measured values of specific surface area of some zircon-structured samples (∼34 m2/g) were ∼7 times higher than those reported thus far for this phase. Interestingly, for the first time, zircon-type BiVO4, previously considered to be a poor photocatalyst, exhibited a better overall performance in degradation of methyl orange compared to monoclinic scheelite-type BiVO4. Hence, it could be expected that the here-presented synthesis and observations will both arouse interest in scarcely studied tetragonal zircon-type BiVO4 and facilitate as well as speed up further research of its properties. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

AB - The interaction of partially reduced graphene oxide (prGO) and Huh7.5.1 liver cancer cells was investigated by means of DUV fluorescence bioimaging. The prGO sample was obtained by the reduction (to a certain extent) of the initially prepared graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets with hydrazine. The fluorescence of the GO nanosheets increases with time of the reduction due to a change in ratio of the sp2 and sp3 carbon sites and the prGO sample was extracted from the dispersion after 6 min, when the intensity of the fluorescence reached its maximum. The reduction process was left to proceed further to saturation until highly reduced graphene oxide (denoted here as rGO) was obtained. GO, prGO and rGO samples were investigated by structural (scanning electron microscopy (SEM), scanning transmission electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive spectrometry (STEM-EDS)) and spectroscopic (UV-vis, photoluminescence (PL), Raman) methods. After that, Huh7.5.1 cells were incubated with GO, prGO and rGO nanosheets and used in bioimaging studies, which were performed on DISCO beamline of synchrotron SOLEIL. It was found that the prGO significantly enhanced the fluorescence of the cells and increased the intensity of the signal by ~2.5 times. Time-lapse fluorescence microscopy experiments showed that fluorescence dynamics strongly depends on the type of nanosheets used. The obtained prGO nanostructure can be easily conjugated with aromatic ring containing drugs, which opens a possibility for its applications in fluorescence microscopy monitored drug delivery. © 2018 IOP Publishing Ltd.

AB - We report an investigation of lead halide perovskite CH3NH3PbBr3 nanocrystals and associated ligand molecules by combining several different state-of-the-art experimental techniques, including synchrotron radiation-based XPS and VUV PES of free-standing nanocrystals isolated in vacuum. By using this novel approach for perovskite materials, we could directly obtain complete band alignment to vacuum of both CH3NH3PbBr3 nanocrystals and the ligands widely used in their preparation. We discuss the possible influence of the ligand molecules to apparent perovskite properties, and we compare the electronic properties of nanocrystals to those of bulk material. The experimental results were supported by DFT calculations.

AB - Flexible and transparent substrate materials were fabricated by using bacterial cellulose (BC), silk fibroin protein (SF) and/or polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The BC-SF and BC-SF-PVA films obtained were further modified by impregnation with silver nanocubes (AgNC). The influences of the silver nanocubes and white light illumination on the electric and viscoelastic properties of the films were investigated. Complex conductivity measurements showed that the films with PVA component are more sensitive to light exposure and there is an increase in conductance when the sample is illuminated. The films that contained silver nanocubes showed higher values of specific susceptance than their unmodified counterparts. DMA analyses revealed that the storage shear moduli of the films increase with addition of silver nanocubes. It was also found that the relaxation transition observed at elevated temperatures in the BC-SF-PVA-AgNC films is highly sensitive to the light exposure. Above the glass transition of PVA, both storage- and loss-shear moduli change dramatically if the sample is illuminated during the measurements with respect to the case when it was kept in the dark. © 2018
