AB  - High-k dielectric stacks are regarded as a promising information storage media in the Charge Trapping Non-Volatile Memories, which are the most viable alternative to the standard floating gate memory technology. The implementation of high-k materials in real devices requires (among the other investigations) estimation of their radiation hardness. Here we report the effect of gamma radiation (60Co source, doses of 10 and 10 kGy) on dielectric properties, memory windows, leakage currents and retention characteristics of nanolaminated HfO2/Al2O3 stacks obtained by atomic layer deposition and its relationship with post-deposition annealing in oxygen and nitrogen ambient. The results reveal that depending on the dose, either increase or reduction of all kinds of electrically active defects (i.e., initial oxide charge, fast and slow interface states) can be observed. Radiation generates oxide charges with a different sign in O2 and N2 annealed stacks. The results clearly demonstrate a substantial increase in memory windows of the as-grown and oxygen treated stacks resulting from enhancement of the electron trapping. The leakage currents and the retention times of O2 annealed stacks are not deteriorated by irradiation, hence these stacks have high radiation tolerance.

The effect of 60Co gamma irradiation on coal fly-ash geopolymer paste setting time

AB  - Cementation is the baseline technology for conditioning of low to intermediate level radioactive waste. Geopolymers, a class of alkali activated binders, are a promising new material for radioactive waste treatment. Coal fly-ash based geopolymers are a low-cost, low greenhouse gas footprint alternative to metakaolin based materials. Both the grouting of sludge/powders/liquids and encapsulation of solids/compacted waste rely on the grout maintaining optimal flow (rheological properties) during the mixing and pouring operations, and achieving a set leading to proper long term solidification (mechanical properties). The initial and final setting time for fly-ash geopolymer paste, based on the SRPS EN 196-3 standard, has been measured upon irradiation by gamma rays in a 60Co reference field positioned with a kerma air rate of 3.42 mGys–1. The binder paste was prepared using fly-ash from the TENT B power plant's electrostatic filters without further sieving, activated by water glass with module 1.5 and mixed with distilled water until a satisfactory flow was obtained, and poured into the sample and control molds. The initial and final setting times for the irradiated sample and non-irradiated control were determined by the Vicat apparatus. The irradiated sample demonstrated an 11 % shorter initial setting time, and 16 % shorter final setting time, compared to the control.

AB  - This paper describes the possibility of using an Electrically Programmable Analog Device (EPAD) as a gamma radiation sensor. Zero-biased EPAD has the lowest fading and the highest sensitivity in the 300 Gy dose range. Dynamic bias of the control gate during irradiation was presented for the first time; this method achieved higher sensitivity compared to static-biased EPADs and better linear dependence. Due to the degradation of the transfer characteristics of EPAD during irradiation, a function of the safe operation area has been found that determines the maximum voltage at the control gate for the desired dose, which will not lead to degradation of the transistor. Using an energy band diagram, it was explained why the zero-biased EPAD has higher sensitivity than the static-biased EPAD.

Atmospheric Solids Analysis Probe with Mass Spectrometry for Chlorpyrifos and Chlorpyrifos-Oxon Determination in Apples

AB  - Chlorpyrifos (CPS) is a toxic pesticide present in several pesticide formulations, with low degradability by natural processes. The degradation leads to the toxic metabolite chlorpyrifos-oxon (CPO). The analytical techniques used for the CPS and CPO analysis, like UPLC-PDA and GC-MS, are accurate but also expensive and time consuming, and they need sample pretreatment. In the search of a more rapid and simple analytical procedure, atmospheric solids analysis probe with mass spectrometry (ASAP-MS) was optimized for the determination of CPS and CPO in apples (Malus domestica „Idared”). The identification of the analytes was based on protonated ion and isotopic pattern, while the quantification was based on peak intensities. The obtained results were confirmed by re-validated UPLC-PDA and GC-MS techniques. CPS and CPO concentrations determined by ASAP-MS and UPLC-PDA showed moderate discrepancies (on average by 10–20%), thus demonstrating that ASAP-MS can be a semiquantitative tool for the quantification of these compounds. As additional goal of this work, the efficiency of a gamma irradiation treatment to remove CPS and CPO from apples was tested by analyzing their content before and after the irradiation: 89–99% of CPS and CPO were degraded with doses of 3.5–3.8 kGy and 66–72 h of irradiation per sample. Identical degradation results were obtained by UPLC-PDA and ASAP-MS, indicating that the latter technique is well suitable to rapidly check pesticide degradation in apples. © 2019 Slovensko Kemijsko Drustvo. AB  - Kontrola kvaliteta u radioterapiji je od velike vaţnosti za poboljšanje preciznosti i pouzdanosti radioterapijskih procedura. Minimizacija negativnih posledica po pacijente se postiţe smanjenjem verovatnoće pojavljivanja slučajnih i sistematskih grešaka identifikovanjem problema u postojećim standardnim procedurama u bolnicama. Značajna metoda kontrole kvaliteta rada radioterapijskih centara jeste program poštanske termoluminiscentne dozimetrije, zajednički organizovan od strane Međunarodne agencije za atomsku energiju i Svetske zdravstvene organizacije, a u kojem učestvuje oko 1700 bolnica širom sveta. Radioterapijski centri u Srbiji takođe učestvuju u ovom programu. Program poređenja apsorbovanih doza u vodi u radioterapijskim centrima u Srbiji je sproveden i tokom 2017, 2018. i 2019. godine. U tom periodu, broj obuhvaćenih centara je porastao sa šest na osam. Radiofotoluminiscentni dozimetri su ozračivani u visokoenergetskim poljima X-fotona generisanim pomoću linearnih akceleratora.
AB  - Quality control in radiotherapy is of great importance in order to improve accuracy and reliability of radiotherapy procedures in hospitals. Minimization of the possible negative consequences of these procedures is achieved by reducing the probability of any random or systematic errors appearing, by determining the existing problems in the standard hospital procedures. One of the important methods for the radiotherapy facilities quality control is the postal thermoluminiscent dosimetry programme, co-organized by International Atomic Energy Agency and the World Health Organization, in which approximately 1700 hospitals throughout the world are participating. Radiotherapy centers in Serbia also participate in this programme, which has been executed during 2017, 2018 and 2019. During this period the number of participating radiotherapy centers in Serbia has increased from six to eight. Radiophotoluminiscent dosimeters have been irradiated in the high-energy X-ray fields generated by using linear accelerators.

Minimization of the possible negative consequences of these procedures is achieved by reducing the probability of any random or systematic errors appearing, by determining the existing problems in the standard hospital procedures. One of the important methods for the radiotherapy facilities quality control is the postal thermoluminiscent dosimetry programme, co-organized by International Atomic Energy Agency and the World Health Organization, in which approximately 1700 hospitals throughout the world are participating. Radiotherapy centers in Serbia also participate in this programme, which has been executed during 2017, 2018 and 2019. During this period the number of participating radiotherapy centers in Serbia has increased from six to eight. Radiophotoluminiscent dosimeters have been irradiated in the high-energy X-ray fields generated by using linear accelerators.",

AB  - U ovom radu je dat pregled izabranih metoda proračuna buildup faktora na osnovu empirijskih aproksimacija Bergera, Tejlora i aproksimacije Geometrijske Progresije, sa kojima mogu da se rešavaju praktični problemi u zaštiti od zračenja u zavisnosti od stepena njihove složenosti. Razmatran je bazičan slučaj za određivanje buildup faktora u zavisnosti od karakteristika homogene materijalne sredine kroz koju se obavlja transport fotona X i gama zračenja, zatim od energije fotona iz izvora zračenja, kao od rastojanja između izvora fotona i tačke u materijalnoj sredini u kojoj se određuje dozimetrijska veličina. Posle sprovedene diskusije rezultata proračuna buildup faktora za olovo, gvožđe, običan beton i vodu, u radu su izvedeni odgovarajući zaključci u vezi efikasnosti primene pojedinih metoda proračuna u homogenoj materijalnoj sredini, uzimajući u obzir da svaka od prikazanih metoda ima svoje prednosti, kao i ograničenja, u zavisnosti od fokusa njene primene.
AB  - This paper provides an overview of selected calculation method buildup factors based on empirical approximation that can not be solved practical problems in radiation protection, depending on their level of complexity. A basic case was considered for the determination of the buildup factor depending on the characteristics of the homogeneous material environment through which the transport of photons X and gamma radiation is carried out, then from the energy of photons from the radiation source, from the distance between the photon source and the point in the material environment in which the dosimetric size. After the discussion of the results of the calculation of the buildup factors for lead, iron, ordinary concrete and water, the conclusions about the efficiency of the application of individual calculation methods in a homogeneous material environment were carried out, taking into account that each of the methods presented has its advantages, as well as the limitations, depending on the focus of its application.

AB  - In this paper we investigated the feasibility of using a commercial programmable floating-gate MOS transistor (EPAD) as a radiation dosimeter. The results show that EPAD with zero bias have the sensitivity of 9.2 mV/Gy and low fading. EPADs with a higher initial threshold voltage show very good linearity with the radiation dose. After its annealing at 70 °C there is a visible recovery of transfer characteristics due to a parasitic parallel resistive path that occurs during irradiation. Apart from that, the threshold voltage is slightly recovered. The programming time of an EPAD increases with the absorbed dose and depends on gate biasing during irradiation. © 2019 IEEE.

AB  - The effect of γ radiation on the charge trapping and oxide properties of MIS capacitors with nanolaminated RfO2/Ah03 dielectrics are presented. The irradiation with dose of 1 and 10 Mrad generates electron traps thereby substantially enhancing the memory windows of stacks. γ radiation increases the positive oxide charge of the structures, but the effect depends also on the thermal treatment of the stacks. The used doses do not deteriorate the density of interface states, leakage currents and retention characteristics. © 2019 IEEE.

AB  - The paper presents the application of a numerical method for the determination of the absorbed dose rate of gamma and X radiation in the dielectric thin layer of hafnium dioxide (RfO2) or SiO2, which is located in the structure of the MOS capacitor. Considering the radiation characteristics of the selected dielectrics, it can be concluded that there are advantages of RfO2 over SiO2 in the radiation field with high-energy X-rays. Similar radiation effects should be expected for the interaction of dielectric material with gamma ray photons originating from a Co-60 source, both in the dielectric layer with SiO2 and in that with RfO2. It can be concluded that for the same radiation absorbed dose into the MOS capacitor with RfO2, there are a greater number of generated electron-hole pairs, in which case the value of effective trapping efficiency is smaller than if SiO2 was used. © 2019 IEEE.

AB  - The paper presents a brief overview of contemporary ELION techniques with stress on their use for material modification and dosimetry. In the attempt to avoid some common misjudges of irradiation effects, special attention is paid to exact definition of irradiation geometry and careful adjustment of dose rates, which enable a proper elaboration of experimental results. In particular, effects of gamma-rays irradiation on properties of commercial optical fibres, splitters, connectors, and fibre joints are examined, which enables monitoring of irradiation effects in complex configurations made of materials with different radiation hardness (resistance). It has been established that gamma-rays irradiation of the investigated elements influences, in different ways, the transmission of laser beam signals of various wavelengths, under different modulation regimes. After irradiation, the signal attenuation is noticeably larger, both in optical connectors and optical splitter, than before it, and the effect increases in time. The effects are more pronounced at the 99 % than at the 1 % Y-splitter output at both measured wavelengths, and are more pronounced at 1310 nm than at 1550 nm.

AB  - Electronic personal dosimeters (EPDs) are increasingly being used alongside conventional thermoluminescent dosimeters to measure the dose of legal record in terms of personal dose equivalent. Therefore, it is of great importance to execute performance tests of these dosimeters in photon fields of various energies and at various angles of incidence. This testing is done in order to simulate the behavior of these dosimeters in realistic multidirectional polyenergetic ionizing radiation fields. Tests of accuracy, linearity, energy response, and angular response have been performed on 10 EPDs from multiple manufacturers. Various radiation qualities have been used in the energy range from 33 keV to 1.33 MeV and for angles of incidence 0 degrees to 80 degrees. This research proves that many of the EPDs tested performed according to the manufacturers specifications and the requirements of the international standards regarding personal dosimetry.

AB  - U ovom radu su sprovedena eksperimentalna istraživanja odziva ESAPMOS4 RADFET
komponenti u polju gama zračenja 60Co kada su inkorporirane u dva različita merna
sistema, u statičkom i dinamičkom on-line mernom sistemu. Značaj istraživanja se
ogleda u uspostavljanju metoda kojim se ostvaruje eksperimentalna karakterizacija
RADFET strukture u poljima jonizujućeg zračenja s obzirom da se koristi on-line merna
tehnika određivanja zavisnosti napona praga RADFET od promene apsorbovane doze
zračenja u dinamičkom režimu rada digitalnog mernog sistema. To znači da se
kontinualno sprovodi registrovanje vrednosti električne veličine kojom se prati odziv
MOSFET-a u tačno zadatim vremenskim intervalima dok traje ozračivanje komponente,
što ranije nije bio slučaj u statičkom režimu merenja promene napona praga. Razlika
između izmerenih odziva za dva različita sistema merenja je bila u granicama
eksperimentalne merne nesigurnosti od 2% do 5% .
AB  - In this paper, experimental responses to ESAPMOS4 RADFET components in the field
of gamma radiation 60Co were performed when incorporated into two different
measurement systems, in a static and dynamic on-line measurement systems. The
significance of the research is reflected in the establishment of methods for achieving
the experimental characterization of the RADFET structure in ionizing radiation fields
since the use of an on-line measuring technique for determining the dependence of the
RADFET threshold voltage on changing the absorbed dose of radiation in the dynamic
regime of the digital measuring system is used. This means that continuously the
registration of an electrical quantity value to monitor the response of the MOSFET at
precisely defined time intervals while the component is irradiated, which was not the
case before in the static measurement mode of change the threshold voltage. The
difference between the measured responses for two different measurement systems was
within the experimental measurement uncertainty of 2% to 5%.

AB  - The paper examines the effects of radiation on the electrical characteristics of monocrystalline silicon and germanium. Samples of monocrystalline silicon and germanium are irradiated under controlled laboratory conditions in the field of neutron, X- and gamma-radiation. Change of the samples specific resistance was measured dependent on the radiation dose with the type of radiation as a parameter. Next, the dependence of the samples resistance on temperature was recorded (in the impurities region and in intrinsic region) with the previously absorbed dose as a parameter. The results were statistically analyzed and explained on the basis of radiation effects in solids. The results are compared with those obtained by using Monte Carlo method. A good agreement was confirmed by the mentioned experimental investigation.

AB  - The development of building materials with improved characteristics and their application for increasing structure durability and sustainability is one of the goals in construction sector. The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the influence of nano-silica replacement of cement (2% or 5%) and aggregate type (quartz, barite or its combination 50:50 by volume) on the properties of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC). UHPC with nano-silica and combination of barite and quartz aggregate is composite which has finer pore-size distribution, improvement in compressive and flexural strength and in radiation protection characteristics, with potential usage as building material for hospitals and nuclear facilities. AB  - Intercomparisons are important activities performed to ensure that the services provided by calibration laboratories to end-users follow internationally accepted standards. Ionizing radiation dosimetry intercomparisons are usually of two types - postal thermoluminescent dosimeter intercomparisons and ionization chamber calibration intercomparisons. In this paper, both types of intercomparisons are analysed together with the results of seven years of participation in such intercomparisons. Several discrepancies were discovered as a result of intercomparisons analysis and the resolution of the discrepancies was discussed.

AB  - One of the most useful applications of MOSFET semiconductor components has been introduced to improve the gamma or electron radiation detection system. In many practical cases it is not easy to carry out experimental tests of semiconductor devices in radiation environment, so it is more convenient to perform the assessment of ionizing radiation interaction with semiconductor devices by using numerical methods based on Monte Carlo simulation techniques. A large number of previous studies have mainly focused on the study of MOSFET dosimeter response to gamma and X radiation fields. Therefore, this work will be focused on a new approach to the study radiation characteristics of the MOSFET dosimeter in fields of other types, such as field of high-energy electrons (4 MeV to 20 MeV). From the engineering point of view, it is important to consider the material that is used as a physical protection of the MOSFET dosimeter. So, it is important to investigate the energy dependence of MOSFET dosimeter to different shielding materials. For this purpose, special numerical experiments of electron transport within all layers of the elementary MOSFET structure will be performed. Shielding materials such as Kovar, Titanium Alloy with Aluminum and Niobium, Titanium Alloy with Zirconium and Niobium will be considered. The electron transport will be simulated with Monte Carlo method using the software package FOTELP-2K12. The distribution of deposited energy in all material zones of interest, as well as the absorbed dose in dosimeter sensitive zone of MOSFET structure will be determined by results obtained with numerical calculations. The physical shielding factor (PSF) for the MOSFET dosimeter, which can show the correlation between dosimeter energy dependence and shielding material in the field of electron beam radiation, will be determined within the paper. After comparing values of PSF for considered materials the recommendation for a lid material that serves as shielding for MOSFET dosimeter will be given.

AB  - A design and implementation of a smart ionization chamber suitable for connection into gamma radiation monitoring networks is presented in this paper. The smart ionization Chamber consists of air-equivalent one liter ionization chamber with associated electronics and a built-in memory for storage of electronic data specifications. Generally, operating and measurement characteristics of the used ionization chamber are written into the memory chip attached to the chamber. A microcontroller-based data acquisition system with a mixed-mode interface has been implemented for the purpose of reading electronic data specifications from the memory chip, and for configuration and interfacing of the ionization chamber to the monitoring network using plug-and-play concept. The details of smart ionization chamber implementation and test results are included in the paper.

AB  - Construction of the Danube Iron Gate Dam for hydroelectricity, 943 km from the mouth of the Danube River, is changing sediment transport due to its retention in the Iron Gate Reservoir (IGR), potentially causing heavy metal enrichment, re-distribution within the solid phase, exchange or re-suspension on sediment-water interface. The concentrations of heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd) in water and sediment during a five-year period along the IGR were determined. The fluxes of heavy metals from river water to sediment due to sedimentation were determined, as well as their fluxes from the bottom sediment to the sediment-water interface due to sediment re-suspension at high flow rate, when fluvial erosion takes place and removes part of the previously deposited sediment from the river bed, in a yearly amount between 2 and 9%, depending on the hydraulic regime in the IGR. AB  - Testing the influence of two aggressive solutions - sulphate and nitrate on mortar and concrete was presented in this paper. Experimental work included testing of mortar prisms with 5 % special admixture. Also, four types of concrete were exposed to aggressive solutions. The chemical resistance was tested according to the Koch-Steinegger method. As a condition for resistance in aggressive solution means that flexural strength of mortar prisms is no less than 70 % of referent prisms cured in water it can be concluded that mortar and concrete made with combination of cement and admixture presented in this investigation are not resistant to ammonium nitrate solution, but are resistant to sulphate corrosion.

AB  - This study investigates the effects of neutron radiation on I-V characteristics (current dependance on voltage) of commercial optoelectronic devices (silicon photodiodes, phototransistors, and solar panels). Current-voltage characteristics of the samples were measured at room temperature before and after irradiation. The diodes were irradiated using Am-Be neutron source with neutron emission of 2.7 x 10(6) n/s. The results showed a decrease in photocurrent for all samples which could be due to the existence of neutron-induced displacement defects introduced into the semiconductor lattice. The process of annealing has also been observed. A comparative analysis of measurement results has been performed in order to determine the reliability of optoelectronic devices in radiation environments.

AB  - In the treatment of Ba-133 decay by the method of coincidence summing, the transitions to the first two excited states of Cs-133 were ignored in former works. By applying the most accurate values for these transitions available in literature, we include them into the count rate equations and obtain solutions for the corresponding system. As a result of this more accurate forming of count rate equations, some terms, which contain previously ignored transition probabilities, turn out to be more significant than the conventionally included terms. We show that their inclusion in the system of count rate equations leads to fine improvements in the determinations of detection efficiencies and the activity of the Ba-133 source. AB  - Results of the wear resistance of the diamond-coated cutting tool inserts upon machining Al-12% Si alloy and glass fiber/polyester resin composites are presented in this paper. The aim of this paper was to demonstrate the advantages of application of cutting tool inserts with the diamond coating over the conventional tungsten-carbide (WC) tools, and to obtain the cheaper serial production (shorter machining time) and satisfactory lifetime of the diamond cutting tool inserts. Surface roughness of the machined samples was measured for both as-received and diamond coated inserts. The diamond microstructure of undamaged part of inserts as well as the appearance of microstructure of diamond coated inserts after machining has been investigated. Results of the behavior of two regimes of preparation of diamond-coated inserts were compared and analyzed. Generally, the wear resistance of the diamond-coated cutting tool is superior over the conventional tool.

Msv Signal Processing System for Neutron-Gamma Discrimination in a Mixed Field

AB  - Based on the principles derived from Campbells theorem, this paper carries out an analysis of the possibilities of Campbells mean square value signal processing system. The mean square value mode is especially suitable for measurements performed in a mixed radiation field, because the quantities of electrical charge involved in the interactions of the two types of radiation are substantially different. The measuring detector element may be an adequate ionization chamber and/or semiconductor components for mixed n-gamma fields. An examination of the discrimination of gamma in relation to the neutron component in the signal of the detector output was carried out, calculated according to the theoretical model of radiation interaction with the detector. The advantage of the mean square value method was confirmed and it was concluded that the order of n-gamma discrimination in mean square value signal processing is greater than the one rendered by the classical measuring method.

AB  - Radiation sensing MOSFETs have found numerous applications as detectors or device components in radiation fields used in nuclear industry, medical applications and space research. Monte Carlo simulations of MOSFET energy response to X-ray and gamma radiation for different packaging were performed. The photon transport Monte Carlo software FOTELP-2K10 has been adapted to obtain the energy deposited in MOSFET structure with microscopic dimensions. In this work the ratio between values of total energy deposited in the sensitive volume (thick SiO2 layer) for cases of MOSFET structure with and without package lid is presented. For this purpose is defined the shielding energy dependence factor (SDEF), and gave its value for kovar and Ti-24Al-11Nb and Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloys as lid materials.
