AB - Far-infrared reflectivity spectra of Hg1-xMnxTe1-ySey (0.01 and LE; x and LE; 0.14, 0.01 and LE; y and LE; 0.1) single crystals were measured in the 80-420cm(-1) range at room temperature. The analysis of the far-infrared spectra was made by a fitting procedure based on the model of coupled oscillators. The dependence of plasma frequency and phonon modes on composition was determined. A model for phonon behavior in quaternary mixed crystals of the type A(1-x)B(x)C(1-y)D(y) was developed, too. This model was tested for Hg1-xMnxTe1-ySey. and COPY; 2004 Elsevier B.V. AB - Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra have been measured in diluted magnetic semiconductor Hg1-xMnxTe1-ySey with y = 0.01, x = 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.14 in the temperature range 20-290 K. The influence of various interactions on the EPR linewidth broadening has been studied. We find that very weak dependence of the observed linewidth on the manganese concentration and temperature cannot be explained by superexchange. An interpretation in terms of the exchange scattering of the free charge carriers on the Mn2+ ions is proposed. It is shown that the main contribution to the EPR linewidth in the zero-gap samples with x = 0.03 and 0.05 at lower temperatures arises from the exchange interaction between the Mn2+ d electrons and holes in the acceptor impurity band. AB - Electron paramagnetic resonance has been studied in diluted magnetic semiconductor Hg1-xMnxTe1-ySey with y=0.01 and x=0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.14 and with y=0.075, x=0.14 in the temperature range 20-290 K. It is found that the EPR linewidth increases with increasing manganese concentration, and decreases with increasing selenium content. From the high temperature linewidth dependence the paramagnetic Curie-Weiss temperature is estimated as \ theta \ = 10 K for the sample with x=0.01, y=0.01 and \ theta \ = 18 K for x=0.03, y=0.01. These values of theta together with those obtained in the magnetic susceptibility measurements give the nearest-neighbour exchange constant in Hg1-xMnxTe1-ySey with y=0.01, J(NN)/k(B)=-5.4 K. The calculated infinite temperature linewidths are considerably smaller than the extrapolated experimental values. We ascribe this effect to a coalescence of the Mn2+ ion six hyperfine lines into a single broad peak.
