Diurnal, Temporal and Spatial Variations of Main Air Pollutants Before and during Emergency Lockdown in the City of Novi Sad (Serbia)

AB  - Changes in air pollution in the region of the city of Novi Sad due to the COVID-19 induced state of emergency were evaluated while using data from permanently operating air quality monitoring stations belonging to the national, regional, and local networks, as well as ad hoc deployed low-cost particulate matter (PM) sensors. The low-cost sensors were collocated with reference gravimetric pumps. The starting idea for this research was to determine if and to what extent a massive change of anthropogenic activities introduced by lockdown could be observed in main air pollutants levels. An analysis of the data showed that fine and coarse particulate matter, as well as SO2 levels, did not change noticeably, compared to the pre-lockdown period. Isolated larger peaks in PM pollution were traced back to the Aralkum Desert episode. The reduced movement of vehicles and reduced industrial and construction activities during the lockdown in Novi Sad led to a reduction and a more uniform profile of the PM2.5 levels during the period between morning and afternoon air pollution peak, approximately during typical working hours. Daily profiles of NO2, NO, and NOX during the state of emergency proved lower levels during most hours of the day, due to restrictions on vehicular movement. CO during the state of the emergency mainly exhibited a lower level during night. Pollutants having transportation-dominated source profiles exhibited a decrease in level, while pollutants with domestic heating source profiles mostly exhibited a constant level. Considering local sources in Novi Sad, slight to moderate air quality improvement was observed after the lockdown as compared with days before. Furthermore, PM low-cost sensors’ usefulness in air quality assessment was confirmed, as they increase spatial resolution, but it is necessary to calibrate them at the deployment location.

AB  - We consider the system of N two-level atoms, of which N0 atoms are unexcited and N1 are excited. This system of N two-level atoms, which forms a linear quantum amplifier, interacts with a single-mode electromagnetic field. The problem of amplification of the L-photon states using such an amplifier is studied. The evolution of the electromagnetic field density matrix is described by the master equation for the field under amplification. The dynamics of this process is such that it can be described as the transformation of the scale of the phase space. The exact solution of the master equation is expressed using the transformed Husimi function of the L-quantum state of the harmonic oscillator. AB  - 16ENV04 Preparedness je projekat iz poziva EMPIR 2016 za zaštitu životne sredine. Glavni cilj projekta je poboljšanje pripravnosti za nuklearne i radiološke incidente i akcidente, koji bi mogli da se dogode u budušnosti. Pripravnost će biti poboljšana tako što će se izvršiti istraživanja u nekoliko pravaca: upotreba bespilotnih letelica za radiološka merenja, upotreba mobilnih sistema za uzorkovanje vazduha, istraživanje mogućnosti  korišćenja radioloških podataka iz nevladinih mreža i korišćenje sistema pasivnih dozimetara za monitoring okoline. Još jedan od načina za poboljšanje pripravnosti je smanjenje  mogušnosti bezrazložne  panike  koja  bi  mogla  da  bude izazvana  diseminacijom merenja iz nevladinih mreža i drugih izvora, što bi moglo da izazove i smanjenje poverenja u zvanične podatke. U cilju realizacije projekta, od velikog značaja su diseminacija razultata i komunikacija sa svim zainteresovanim stranama.
AB  - 16ENV04 Preparedness is a research project within the EMPIR 2016environment call. The  main  project  goal  is  to  increase  the  preparedness  for  nuclear  and  radiological incidents  and  accidents  that  might  occur  in  the  future.  The  preparedness  will  be increased  by  pursuing  several  directions  of  research:  use  of  unmanned  aerial  vehicles for radiological measurements, use of transportable air-sampling systems, investigating the crowd sourced radiological data for possible official uses and investigating the use of passive dosimetry systems for ambient monitoring. Another aspect of preparedness is to try to reduce the possibility of unwarranted panic caused by the data disseminated by citizen  networks  and  other  sources  and  to  increase  confidence  in  official  data.  To realize the project goals, communication with stakeholders and dissemination of results are of greatest importance.

In search of an optimal in-field calibration method of low-cost gas sensors for ambient air pollutants: Comparison of linear, multilinear and artificial neural network approaches

AB  - The current compliance networks of automatic air-quality monitoring stations in large urban environments are not sufficient to provide spatial and temporal measurement resolution for realistic assessment of personal exposure to pollutants. Small low-cost sensor platforms with greater mobility and expected lower maintenance costs, are increasingly being used as a supplement to compliance monitoring stations. However, low-cost sensor platforms usually provide data with uncertain precision. To improve the precision, these sensor platforms require in-field calibration. Our paper aims to demonstrate that data from each individual sensor system can be corrected using that sensor system's own data to achieve much improved data quality compared to a reference. However, in this procedure, there are practical difficulties such as individual sensor outputs from the multi-sensor system not being sufficiently available due to malfunctions for instance. We explore how this can be dealt with. In our opinion, this is a novel approach, of practical importance both to users and manufacturers. We present a detailed comparative analysis of Linear Regression (univariate), Multivariate Linear Regression and Artificial Neural Networks used with a specific aim of calibrating field-deployed low-cost CO and O3 sensors. For Artificial Neural Network models, the performance of three common training algorithms was compared (Levenberg-Marquardt, Resilient back-propagation and Conjugate Gradient Powell-Beale algorithm). Data for this study were obtained from two campaigns conducted with 25 multi-sensor AQMESH v.3.5 platforms used within the activities of the CITI-SENSE project. The platforms were co-located to reference gas monitors at the Automatic Monitoring Station Stari Grad, in Belgrade, Serbia. This paper demonstrates that Multivariate Linear Regression and Artificial Neural Network calibration models can improve the output signal. This improvement can be measured by changes in the median and interquartile ranges of statistical parameters used for model evaluation. Artificial Neural Networks showed the best results compared to Linear Regression and Multivariate Linear Regression models. The best predictors for CO, in addition to CO low-cost sensor data, were PM2.5 and NO2, while for O3, in addition to O3 low-cost sensor data, the most suitable input predictors were NO and aH. Based on residual error analysis, we have shown that for CO and O3, a certain range of concentrations exists in which calibrated values differ by less than 10% from the reference method results. In addition, it was noted that for all models, CO sensors consistently showed lower variability between platforms compared to O3 sensors. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

AB  - Bespilotne letelice, kolokvijalno poznatije kao dronovi, mogu biti od velike pomoći prilikom prikupljanja podataka visoke rezolucije, naročito u slučajevima kada direktno uključivanje obučenog osoblja na lokaciji od interesa ne bi bilo poželjno. Takav je slučaj sa reagovanjem u slučaju nuklearnog ili radiološkog akcidenta. Dron koji bi imao niz kompaktnih senzora, koji bi sadržali i specijalizovanu opremu koja nije deo standardnog tovara drona, kao što je npr. gama spektrometar, bi bio od velike pomoći, naravno pod pretpostavkom pouzdanog linka za prenos podataka u izazovnom okruženju kakvo je i očekivano u tom slučaju. Pitanje koje komplikuje upotrebu dronova u ovakvim situacijama, a možda i više u slučaju istraživanja i vežbi (koje moraju prethoditi bilo kakvoj realnoj upotrebi) je heterogeni regulatorni okvir koji postoji u evropskim zemljama. Ova fragmentacija je potekla od činjenice da je Evropska komisija ostavila regulisanje dronova mase ispod 150kg zemljama članicama. Iako je nova, harmonizujuća regulativa u procesu donošenja i primene, različiti nacionalni regulatorni okviri su još uvek na snazi, i oni imaju i slučnosti ali i kontrastirajuće elemente. U ovom radu je dat pregled odabranih nacionalnih regulativa u kontekstu reagovanja u vanrednim situacijama kao i uvid u neke buduće trendove.
AB  - Unmanned aerial vehicles -UAVs, more colloquially known as drones, can be of great help in high resolution data acquisition, especially in situations where direct, on-the-ground involvement of trained personnel would be strongly undesirable. One such case is an emergency response following a nuclear or radiological event. Drone mounted with array of compact sensors, which may include specialized equipment not commonly found in the payload, such as gamma spectrometer, would be of great help to first responders, of course under assumption of a reliable data link in a complicated environment. Issue that complicates use of drones in emergency situations, and maybe even more so in research and exercises (that must precede any realistic use) is heterogeneous regulatory framework that currently exists in European countries. This fragmentation originated from the fact that European Commission left regulation of drones under 150kg to Member States. While new harmonizing legislation is under discussion, various national UAV regulations are still in place, with strong similarities but also with contrasting elements. This work summarizes current status of various national UAV regulations in the context of emergency response and also gives perspective into future trends.

The N-photon states are associated with N-quantum states of the harmonic oscillator. We show that the process of interaction of the electromagnetic field with atoms can be associated with some transformation of the phase space and functions defined on this phase space. AB  - In the diffraction pattern produced by a half-plane sharp edge when it obstructs the passage of a laser beam, two characteristic regions are noticeable. There is a central region, where the diffraction of laser light appears in the region of geometric shadow, while intensity oscillations are observed in the non-obstructed area. On both sides of the edge, there are also very long light traces along the normal to the edge of the obstacle. The theoretical explanation of this phenomenon is based on the Fresnel–Kirchhoff diffraction theory applied to the Gaussian beam propagation behind the obstacle. In this paper, we supplement this explanation by considering electromagnetic flow lines, which provide a more complete interpretation of the phenomenon in terms of electric and magnetic fields and flux lines; at the same time, that can be related to average photon paths. © 2018, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

AB  - We consider scale transformations (q, p) - GT (lambda q, lambda p) in phase space. They induce transformations of the Husimi functions H(q, p) defined in this space. We consider the Husimi functions for states that are arbitrary superpositions of n-particle states of a harmonic oscillator. We develop a method that allows finding so-called stretched states to which these superpositions transform under such a scale transformation. We study the properties of the stretched states and calculate their density matrices in explicit form. We establish that the density matrix structure can be described using negative binomial distributions. We find expressions for the energy and entropy of stretched states and calculate the means of the number-ofstates operator. We give the form of the Heisenberg and Robertson-Schrodinger uncertainty relations for stretched states.

AB  - We consider the Husimi Q(q, p)-functions which are quantum quasiprobability distributions on the phase space. It is known that, under a scaling transform (q; p) - GT (aiiq; aiip), the Husimi function of any physical state is converted into a function which is also the Husimi function of some physical state. More precisely, it has been proved that, if Q(q, p) is the Husimi function, the function aii(2) Q(aiiq; aiip) is also the Husimi function. We call a state with the Husimi function aii(2) Q(aiiq; aiip) the stretched state and investigate the properties of the stretched Fock states. These states can be obtained as a result of applying the scaling transform to the Fock states of the harmonic oscillator. The harmonic-oscillator Fock states are pure states, but the stretched Fock states are mixed states. We find the density matrices of stretched Fock states in an explicit form. Their structure can be described with the help of negative binomial distributions. We present the graphs of distributions of negative binomial coefficients for different stretched Fock states and show the von Neumann entropy of the simplest stretched Fock state.

AB  - We propose a new method for the derivation of Husimi symbols, for operators that are given in the form of products of an arbitrary number of coordinates, and momentum operators, in an arbitrary order. For such an operator, in the standard approach, one expresses coordinate and momentum operators as a linear combination of the creation and annihilation operators, and then uses the antinormal ordering to obtain the final form of the symbol. In our method, one obtains the Husimi symbol in a much more straightforward fashion, departing directly from operator explicit form without transforming it through creation and annihilation operators. With this method the mean values of some operators are found. It is shown how the Heisenberg and the Schrodinger-Robertson uncertainty relations, for position and momentum, are transformed under scale transformation (q; p) - GT (lambda q; lambda p). The physical sense of some states which can be constructed with this transformation is also discussed.

AB  - У овој тези je размотрена формулација тродимензионе (3Д) методе коначнихелемената (МКЕ) уз употребу Б-сплајн функција и коришћење хексаедарскихелемената. При томе су Б-сплајн функције коришћене и за геометријскомоделовање и за моделовање електричног поља. Будући да нова формулацијаомогућава независно геометријско моделовање и моделовање поља, проучене су иформулисане две варијанте методе, и то метода која користи хијерархијскеполиномске функције за моделовање поља и метода која користи Б-сплајнфункције за моделовање поља. Обе варијанте методе користе Б-сплајн функције загеометријско моделовање. Испитана је и веза између две варијанте методе. Какоби 3Д геометријски модели могли да се користе у МКЕ потребно јепараметризовање и дискретизовање геометрије. Ова тема је додатно размотренаимајући у виду специфичности моделовања геометрије помоћу Б-сплајн функција.Будући да је најзахтевнији део МКЕ алгоритма попуњавање МКЕ матрица,изведени су изрази за њихово попуњавање и приказани у детаљима.Формулисане методе су примењене на неколико погодних примера који уодређеној мери илуструју реалне инжењерске проблеме као што су нетривијалнагеометрија, избор функција за апроксимацију поља и слично. При томе су методеупоређене или са аналитичким решењем или са референтним нумеричкимрешењем. Дат је и пример реалистичне анализе МКЕ конвергенције без употребереферентних решења и модела. На крају су дате смернице за могуће побољшањеуведених метода и правци даљег истраживања.
AB  - This thesis presents a novel three-dimensional (3D) formulation of the finite elementmethod (FEM) which utilizes B-spline functions and hexahedral elements. B-splinefunctions were used for both geometric modeling and electric field modeling. Since thisnovel formulation enables independent geometric and field modeling, two variations ofthe FEM were studied; the first utilizes hierarchical polynomial functions for fieldmodeling and the second utilizes B-spline functions for field modeling. Both variationsof the method utilize B-spline functions for geometric modeling. Possible relationsbetween the two variations of the method were also studied in detail. In order to use 3Dgeometric models as input for the FEM analysis, further efforts to parametrize anddiscretize the geometry were needed. These topics were discussed in detail having inmind specificities of the B-spline functions when used for geometric modeling. SinceFEM matrix assembly is the most demanding task in implementation of the FEMalgorithm, detailed analytic expressions for entries in the FEM matrices were given.Formulated methods were illustrated using several suitable examples which resembledifficulties met in real-life engineering problems (non trivial geometry, fieldapproximationchoices, etc.). The calculated results were compared either with theanalytical solutions, or with the high quality numerical solutions. An example ofrealistic FEM convergence analysis, which does not use referent solutions and modelswas also given. Concluding remarks state future research directions and possibleimprovements of the proposed methods.

AB  - We propose a new method for calculating Husimi symbols of operators. In contrast to the standard method, it does not require using the anti-normal-ordering procedure. According to this method, the coordinate and momentum operators (q) over cap and (p) over cap are assigned other operators (X) over cap and (P) over cap satisfying the same commutation relations. We then find the result of acting with the (X) over cap and (P) over cap operators and also polynomials in these operators on the Husimi function. After the obtained expression is integrated over the phase space coordinates, the integrand becomes a Husimi function times the symbol of the operator chosen to act on that function. We explicitly evaluate the Husimi symbols for operators that are powers of (X) over cap or (P) over cap.

AB  - In the treatment of Ba-133 decay by the method of coincidence summing, the transitions to the first two excited states of Cs-133 were ignored in former works. By applying the most accurate values for these transitions available in literature, we include them into the count rate equations and obtain solutions for the corresponding system. As a result of this more accurate forming of count rate equations, some terms, which contain previously ignored transition probabilities, turn out to be more significant than the conventionally included terms. We show that their inclusion in the system of count rate equations leads to fine improvements in the determinations of detection efficiencies and the activity of the Ba-133 source. B-Spline Entire-Domain Higher Order Finite Elements for 3-D Electromagnetic Modeling

AB  - A novel entire-domain finite element technique based on curvilinear hexahedral geometrical modeling using B-splines in conjunction with higher order hierarchical polynomial curl-conforming vector basis functions for field expansions is proposed for electromagnetic analysis of microwave devices. The effectiveness of the technique is evaluated in analysis of microwave cavities and it is compared with alternative reference solutions and with HFSS. Examples demonstrate large single-element (entire-domain) models with p-refined field distributions and better accuracy in curvature modeling than with the Lagrange interpolation. Extraordinary flexibility of the B-spline hexahedral elements, combined with higher order field expansions, allows accurate modeling of complex structures with sharp edges using a single finite element.

abstract = "A novel entire-domain finite element technique based on curvilinear hexahedral geometrical modeling using B-splines in conjunction with higher order hierarchical polynomial curl-conforming vector basis functions for field expansions is proposed for electromagnetic analysis of microwave devices. The effectiveness of the technique is evaluated in analysis of microwave cavities and it is compared with alternative reference solutions and with HFSS. Examples demonstrate large single-element (entire-domain) models with p-refined field distributions and better accuracy in curvature modeling than with the Lagrange interpolation. Extraordinary flexibility of the B-spline hexahedral elements, combined with higher order field expansions, allows accurate modeling of complex structures with sharp edges using a single finite element.",

Since proton irradiation is an essential part of the space radiation environment, it is important to know RADFET proton response precisely. In this work a numerical simulation of RADFET proton response is performed. To this end the proton transport Monte Carlo software SRNA-2K5, developed by one of the authors, has been adapted to obtain the energy deposited in the RADFET structure and dose distribution within the microscopic dimensions of the dosimeter sensitive volume. Our results show that RADFET response to proton irradiation depends significantly of packaging configurations with kovar lid.

AB  - The calculations of the low-energy attachment cross section to metallic clusters are investigated. Low energy electrons are taken as slow enough to excite a giant dipole collective resonance within the cluster. The calculations are more refined than the earlier ones - they do not depend on the experimental data, and we improved RPAE calculation of the collective resonance in the cluster. The results are interesting for the nano-region and designing of new materials.

AB  - Aluminum-pillared montmorillonite (PILC MM) was doped with 12-tungstophosphoric acid hexahydrate (WPA-6) by the Solgel method. Using broad band dielectric relaxation spectroscopy (DRS), electrical properties of the obtained material were investigated. Thermally stimulated depolarization current technique was also used due to its high sensitivity and high resolving power. It has been established that pillared montmorillonite doped with WPA-6 (H3PW12O40 center dot 6H(2)O) shows conductivity higher than that of the pure components. Phase transition, which in WPA-6 takes place above 50 degrees C, in doped montmorillonite occurs above 70 degrees C. The conductivity activation energy is 0.27 eV. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. AB  - A new method for the calculation of parameters is proposed. The method is based on determination of the glow curve maximum and effective values of the half-width and part of the half-width on the higher temperature side. A relation between the symmetry factor as a function of the corresponding constant alpha = n(0)(h + n(0)) and the correction factor Delta is obtained. An approximate symmetry factor function is derived, which enables analytical calculation of the parameters: activation energy E, constant alpha, and pre-exponential factor s ((h)). An iterative procedure is developed for more precise calculation of these parameters. The new method is checked for some characteristic values of the parameters. The connection between the models of general and mixed-order kinetics has been described theoretically.

AB  - Bentonite a natural raw material from the Sipovo mining deposits (Republic of Srpska), which contains a high percentage of montmorillonite, was treated to obtain montmorillonite clay ready for further investigations. Al-pillared montmorillonite was doped with 12-tungstophosphoric acid (WPA) by the sol-gel method. Substantial increase in proton conductivity of this new material was achieved. Different physicochemical methods were used to characterize new materials such as X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, porosity measurements, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and infrared measurements (IR). Impedance spectroscopy technique was applied in order to study the proton conductivity and its dependence on the frequency and tungstophosphoric acid concentration.

This work is a continuation of our previous investigations on the influence of monovalent and bivalent cations on the dielectric properties of WPA hydrates salts. Measurements were made in the frequency range 10 mHz-1 MHz in order to explore the long-range dynamics, following recent microwave measurements aiming at the local dynamics properties. Experiments were done in the temperature interval 293-350 K. Data treatment included complex permittivity epsilon*, complex electric modulus M* and complex impedance Z* formalism, Arrhenius diagram and Cole-Cole diagrams. The results are discussed in terms of conductivity relaxation and conductivity current relaxation. Rather long conductivity relaxation times measured seem to correspond to ion jumping processes. AB  - Barium salt of 12-tungstophosphoric acid (WPA) hydrate BaHPW12O40.7H(2)O (BaHWPA-7H20) has been investigated both in the microwave (X-band) region and in the lower frequency (5 Hz-500 kHz) region. This work is a continuation of our previous investigations on the influence of monovalent and bivalent cations on the dielectric properties of WPA hydrate salts. The real and imaginary parts of the permittivity (epsilon, epsilon) as a function of frequency and temperature, were determined in both frequency regions. The observed relaxations were attributed to specific relaxation processes. In the lower frequency range, the relaxation time tau=1.0 x 10(-6) s was assigned to barium ion jumps. In the microwave region, the dielectric relaxation time tau =1.7 x 10(-11) s was attributed to polyatomic ions (H3O+) and/or H2O molecules reorientations. A phase transition was observed at 330 K. The low value of the activation energy for reorientation in the microwave frequency region is discussed. The d.c. conductivity and its temperature dependence were determined. Measurements were made in the temperature interval from 286 to 353 K. In the upper part of this temperature interval a PTCR effect was observed. (C) 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

abstract = "Barium salt of 12-tungstophosphoric acid (WPA) hydrate BaHPW12O40.7H(2)O (BaHWPA-7H20) has been investigated both in the microwave (X-band) region and in the lower frequency (5 Hz-500 kHz) region. This work is a continuation of our previous investigations on the influence of monovalent and bivalent cations on the dielectric properties of WPA hydrate salts. The real and imaginary parts of the permittivity (epsilon, epsilon) as a function of frequency and temperature, were determined in both frequency regions. The observed relaxations were attributed to specific relaxation processes. In the lower frequency range, the relaxation time tau=1.0 x 10(-6) s was assigned to barium ion jumps.
