AB  - Powders consisting of 44 angstrom Cd1-xMnxS (x = 0; 0.05; 0.1; 0.15; 0.3) quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized using the colloidal chemistry method and characterized by Raman scattering measurements. The dominant Raman line of the 44 angstrom Cd1-xMnxS QDs was at about 300cm(-1) showing asymmetric broadening for omega LT 300cm(-1). A significant change in the intensity of the first harmonic for different x and excitation energies was noticed. Also, the second harmonic of confined Raman modes was experimentally observed. A theoretical model was used to calculate the relative contributions of the confined Raman scattering modes for the 44 angstrom US QDs and satisfactory agreement with experimental results was found.

AB  - Phonon spectra of Cd1-xMnxS (x = 0; 0.01; 0.05; 0.1; 0.15; 0.3) nanoparticles (d similar to 4.5 rim) have been investigated by far-infrared reflection (FIR) (spectral range 40 - 600 cm(-1), temperature range 80-300 K) and Raman spectroscopy (100 - 700 cm(-1), 300 K). Cd1-xMnxS nanoparticles have been synthesized by using aqueous solution precipitation. We obtained interesting features in FIR spectra: there are expected modes of bulk US (240 cm(-1), 300 cm(-1)), new modes connected with namo-size of US (130 cm(-1), 170 cm(-1)) and additional mode at 120 cm(-1) in Cd1-xMnxS nanoparticles which can be assigned to the presence of Mn. The position of obtained modes is discussed in the frame of the linear chain model with both mass and force constant defects. Raman spectroscopy gives us only the mode at 300 cm(-1) and its second harmonic.

AB  - We investigated Cd1-xMnxS (x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.3) nanoparticles (R0 = 2.25
nm), synthesized by using aqueous solution precipitation, by Raman scattering measurements.
Investigated nanoparticles are small enough to show effects due to confinement. In Raman
spectra of Cd1-xMnxS nanoparticles asymmetric Raman line was observed. Dominant line was
at about 300 cm-1 ? asymmetric broader for < 300 cm-1. We considered a single crystalline
sphere to calculate the relative contributions of the confined modes to Raman scattering. Second
harmonics of these confined modes are registered too

The Cd1-xMnxS quantum dots have been synthesized by using aqueous solution precipitation. The analysis of the reflection spectra was made by a fitting procedure. A numerical model for calculating the reflectivity coefficient for complex system, which includes surface active agent (in our case Na(PO3)6) and quantum dots (Cd1-xMnxS) has been developed. Together with the modes of Na(PO3)6 and quantum dots CdS we obtain the new mode of Mn at about 100cm-1. The position of this mode is discussed in the frame of linear chain model with both mass and force constant defects. The possibility of existence of ultra small nano-size clusters of MnS (~0.5nm) in Cd1-xMnxS nanaoparticles is also discussed.
