AB - Natural radionuclides are omnipresent in the environment. However, our environment is also contaminated with anthropogenic radionuclides that appear as a consequence of human activities. One of the main sources of increased radioactive contamination in environment was nuclear accident in Chernobyl in 1986. Medicinal herbs have long history of worldwide consumption in traditional medicine. Therefore, it is necessary to control the usage of medicinal herbs and their products, from radiological point of view, as well. In that way, unwanted radiological effects on human health can be avoided. The paper deals with radiological analysis of 7 selected medicinal herbs: (Thymus serpyllum L., Breckland thyme; Hypericum perforatum L., St. John's wort; Rosa canina L., Dog-rose; Mentha sp., mint; Melissa officinalis L., Lemon balm; Tilia tomentosa L., Silver Linden; Achillea millefolium, Yarrow) from the region of Fruška Gora, Republic of Serbia. Specific activities of 137Cs, 40K and 210Pb in medicinal herbs samples are determined by using HPGe gamma-ray spectrometer system. From obtained specific activities individual annual effective doses due to daily ingestion of 200 ml infusion of medicinal herbs were deduced. Obtained specific activities are in intervals: <1.4 Bq/kg, (303 – 1073) Bq/kg and (3.58 – 35.6) Bq/kg, for137Cs, 40K and 210Pb, respectively. Deduced individual annual effective doses due to ingestion are similar to the literature data and are smaller than the recommended limit of 100 μSv, defined in Article 8 of the Regulation on limits of radionuclide content in drinking water, foodstuffs, feeding stuffs, drugs, items of general use, building materials and other goods to be placed on the market (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, 2018). Therefore, a daily use of 200 mL of herbal infusion during a year made from the investigated medicinal herbs does not pose a significant radiological health risk for consumers.

AB - eir daughter products, as well as 40K. It is widely used in industry as well as in energy pro-duction. The problems associated with the production of energy from coal is the so-called “energy waste”, such as ash and slag, which are incombustible and unburnt residue from combustion of coal. If ash and slag are released into the environment an increase and/or redistribution of natural radio-nuclide content can occur. To determine the potential impact of “energy waste” on the environment, samples of coal, ash, and slag from thermal power plant "Nikola Tesla" and "Kolubara" were meas-ured with a semiconductor HPGe spectrometer. Results of activity concentration of natural radionu-clides and artificial 137Cs in coal, slag and ash are presented in few previously published papers and obtained values are in accordance with similar worldwide investigations. o ensure the accuracy and precision (reliability) ofthe obtained measurement results, quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) program were established. Internal control includes check-ing of the characteristics of HPGe spectrometer used for measurement of all analysed samples. Point sources of 60Co and 137Cs are used as control sources for checking following characteristics: peak positions, net peak area, FWHMs (Full Width at Half Maximum), FWTMs (Full Width at Tenth Max-imum) and FWHM/FWTM ratios. In addition to the mentioned characteristics, the counting of back-ground is also regularly controlled. Each of the mentioned characteristics may indicate some irreg-ularity in the operation of the detector system and thus could influence reliability of performed activ-ity concentration measurements. The paper presents the control charts of the examined characteristics of the HPGe spectrometer used for measurements of coal, ash and slag samples. The obtained control charts indicate the long-term stability of the spectrometer and hence confirm accuracy and precision of measurement results.

AB - Fourteen samples of nine different species were collected in the region of Fruška gora, the suburban areas of Belgrade, and the vicinity of Vlasina Lake (Serbia) have been analyzed from the radiological point of view. Specific activities of radionuclides 210Pb, 137Cs, and 40K were measured using a semiconductor HPGe spectrometer system in these wild mushroom samples. The activity concentrations of all measured dried wild mushrooms are for 210Pb: between 2.05 Bq/kg and 9.74 Bq/kg; for 137Cs: between < 0.2 Bq/kg and 19.3 Bq/kg; for 40K between 704 Bq/kg and 2530 Bq/kg. The total individual annual effective doses due to ingestion of 210Pb, 137Cs, and 40K radionuclides within a 0.5 kg dry mass of the wild mushrooms is between 3.99 µSv and 10.81 µSv, and are much lower than the recommended level for the public (1 mSv/y).

AB - In the rich flora of Serbia, there are a large number of medicinal plants types used in the pharmaceutical industry and medicine. There is also a large percentage of daily use of herbal teas as some kind of beverages. Natural radionuclides (radionuclides of the uranium and thorium series as well as K-40) are an integral part of our environment, and as a consequence of nuclear accidents we also have the presence of anthropogenic radionuclides, primarily Cs-137. The significant use of medicinal plants represent a radiological burden for the general population, so the regular monitoring is needed. In this work, 9 types of medicinal plants from the area of Gučevo (Western Serbia) were analysed. The specific activities of natural radionuclides 210-Pb i 40-K as well as Cs-137 were determined using a semiconductor HPGe spectrometer. Annual effective dose due to ingestion were calculated for each measured radionuclide, and for two age categories (one year old and adult). All calculations are based on the assumption daily consumption of 200 ml of herbal tea. The obtained values for the annual effective dose due to ingestion point to the conclusion that the daily use of medicinal plant teas from the analyzed area does not represent a significant radiological risk for the health of adults, but caution and prudence are necessary when it is about children.

AB - Kontrola kvaliteta laboratorijskog procesa zauzima značajno mesto u svakodnevnom laboratorijskom radu.
AB - Quality control of the laboratory process plays an important role in daily laboratory work. Due to its importance, international standards have issued the ways and requirements for performing such a task. One of the requirements of the ISO 17025 standard is to ensure confidence in the measurement results, which, among other things, can be done by continuously monitoring the parameters characteristic of the laboratory method of interest through the construction of the so-called control charts. The paper presents the results of a three-and-a-half-year analysis of the gamma spectrometric system measurements in the Laboratory for Nuclear and Plasma Physics of the INN "Vinča". Measurements were made once a week and point sources Co-60 and Cs-137 were used as control sources. In addition to monitoring the count below the peak, the position of the peak, the full width at half maximum (FWHM), the full width at tenth maximum (FWTM), as well as their mutual ratio (FWTM/FWHM), the count in the background was also monitored. The results show that the gamma spectrometric system has satisfactory stability over a long period of time.

AB - Since more than a half of the effective doses from all ionising radiation come from the exposure to radon and its progeny, radon is important in the field of radiation protection. Being a noble gas and therefore chemically inert, radon is also used as a tracer for different geological and atmospheric processes. Radon is of interest to climate scientists for monitoring greenhouse gasses (GHG). It is known that by knowing radon flux and variation of radon and GHG concentration at the same period of time during the night, it is possible to estimate emission of GHG. In this paper, the most important results of recently finished EMPIR project 19ENV01 traceRadon “Radon metrology for use in climate change observation and radiation protection at the environmental level” are presented. Project aimed to develop the capability to measure SI traceable radon activity in the range of 1 Bq m-3 to 100 Bq m-3, suitable for outdoor radon measurements, to develop the capability for traceable radon flux measurements in the field which is important for GHG emission estimates and validation of contemporary radon flux models. Within the project it was investigated to what extent radon flux and outdoor radon data could be used for estimation of radon priority areas.

Takođe, u sklopu projekta, vršila se procena do koje mere se radon u spoljašnjoj sredini i radonski fluks mogu koristiti za procenu radonskih prioritetnih oblasti., Since more than a half of the effective doses from all ionising radiation come from the exposure to radon and its progeny, radon is important in the field of radiation protection. Within the project it was investigated to what extent radon flux and outdoor radon data could be used for estimation of radon priority areas.",

AB - The Radioactivity Measurement Laboratory has initially measured the radon concentration, in a private house on Bežanijska Kosa in Belgrade, by activated charcoal canisters and established a high concentration in the new part of the house. In order to determine the reasons for the increased radon concentration, new measurements were organized three more times, in different periods, covering all four seasons. This paper presents a report of these measurements in which, the Nuclear And Plasma Physics Laboratory Of The "Vinca" Institute also participated with the combination of a larger number of methods: radon concentration measurement by activated charcoal canisters, radon concentration measurement by active device – alpha-spectrometer, determination of radon concentrations on the basis of radon exhalation rate from the floor of the room, from the building material, on the basis of the radon measurement from the soil, estimation of radon concentration on the basis of gamma spectrometry analysis of the soil sample, taken from the yard in front of the house. Analysis of the obtained results confirmed previous knowledge about seasonal and others variations in radon concentration.

AB - This paper presents the results of gamma spectrometry measurements of natural radionuclides ( 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K) in some floor and wall ceramic tiles produced in Serbia and used in homes and workplaces. The level of radioactivity of some ceramic tiles produced in Serbia by two major manufacturers–Zorka Keramika and Toza Markovic was examined. The measured mean value of the activity concentration of 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K exceeds the average values in the world for building materials with values of 67.2±6.9 Bq kg-1 for 226Ra, 57.4±4.7 Bq kg-1 for 232Th and 808±48 Bq kg-1 for 40K. Based on these calculated values, the representative level index gamma index, associated with gamma radiation, whose average value is 0.78±0.06, and annual effective dose, whose average value is 0.117±0.009 mSv y-1 for home was obtained. Estimated values fulfill all the recommendations of the European Union for building materials, thus analyzed materials are considered not to be a health hazard for the public.

AB - Presented study describes the optimization method of an HPGe detector through implementation of Geant4 toolkit. The optimized model was verified through comparison with experimentally obtained data using a set of point-like radioactive calibration sources. Acquired results displayed good agreement with the experimental data that falls under an average relative deviation of the order of ~ 2% within the energy range of 53–1836 keV. Additionally, in order to test the validity of the code it was also applied to a different detection equipment where an average relative deviation of the order of ~ 1.8% was achieved within the energy range of 121–1112 keV. © 2023, Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

AB - Classical novae are thermonuclear explosions in stellar binary systems, and important sources of 26Al and 22Na. While γ rays from the decay of the former radioisotope have been observed throughout the Galaxy, 22Na remains untraceable. Its half-life (2.6 yr) would allow the observation of its 1.275 MeV γray line from a cosmic source. However, the prediction of such an observation requires good knowledge of its nucleosynthesis. The 22Na(p, γ) 23Mg reaction remains the only source of large uncertainty about the amount of 22Na ejected. Its rate is dominated by a single resonance on the short-lived state at 7785.0(7) keV in 23Mg. Here, we propose a combined analysis of particle-particle correlations and velocity-difference profiles to measure femtosecond nuclear lifetimes. The application of this method to the study of the 23Mg states, places strong limits on the amount of 22Na produced in novae and constrains its detectability with future space-borne observatories.

AB - In order to compare alpha-particle and gamma-ray spectrometry, the activity concentrations of 235U, 238U and 226Ra in samples of coal, slag and fly-ash from the thermal power plant “Nikola Tesla A”, Serbia, were determined by these two methods. Methods were compared and discussed from the point of view of its precision, difficulty to apply and complexity. Gamma-ray spectrometry was performed with HPGe (High Purity Germanium) spectrometer, while alpha activity was measured by PIPS (Passivated Implanted Planar Silicon) detector. For the alpha-particle spectrometry, the chemical procedures applied were chromatographic resin extraction for uranium isotopes and micro-coprecipitation for 226Ra. Thin alpha sources were prepared by electrodeposition and filtration through polypropylene membrane filter for uranium determination, while filtration technique was performed for radium sources. For the evaluation of the statistical difference between individual measurement results obtained by application of two methods Z - test was used. In order to evaluate the difference between two methods used, paired samples t-test and F-test were applied. Results show that there is no statistical difference between two methods used and that gamma-ray spectrometry is a valid alternative to time consuming alpha spectrometry.

AB - This study showed that 137Cs concentrations in black walnut leaf and fruit, as well as in tinctures were below the detection limits. Concentrations of other radionuclides are lower than their concentrations in the soil, except for concentration of 40K in black walnut fruit, which objectively have more potassium due to the structure of the fruit. It indicates that the consumption of leaf and nut tinctureis absolutely safe, especially in relation to artificial radionuclides.

AB - In accordance with ISO/IC 17025:2017 testing laboratory shall have a procedure for monitoring the validity of results that includes regular participation in interlaboratory comparisons. Interlaboratory comparison RADON2021 was organized in the frame of the bilateral project between Serbia and Montenegro: “Measurement of the radon equilibrium factor in typical residential buildings in Serbia and Montenegro and harmonization of radon measurement techniques” in order to assess congruence of different measurement techniques, and then harmonize methods in case of inconsistencies. Harmonization is of particular importance to neighboring countries, in order to avoid inconsistencies in the classification of radon risk zones along border areas. Thus, six regional laboratories took part in the intercomparison – three from Belgrade and one from Novi Sad, Serbia; one from Podgorica, Montenegro; one from Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. All laboratories participated in the indoor radon measurements, while 4 laboratories measured radon in the soil also. The measurement methods and detectors used by the laboratories were: • for air - EPA 402-R-92-004 – Indoor Radon and Radon Decay Product Measurement Devices Protocols, ch. 3.1. with RAD 7, RTM1688-2 and RadonEye; EPA 520/5-87-005 – 1987 EERF Standard Operating Procedures for Rn-222 Measurement Using Charcoal Canisters, ch. 3.4 using adsorption on charcoal canisters; ISO 11665- 4: Measurement of radioactivity in the environment – Air Radon 222: Part 4: Integrated measurement method for determining average activity concentration using passive sampling and delayed analysis with Electretes, and • for soil gas - ISO 11665-11:2016 Measurement of radioactivity in the environment — Air: radon-222 — Part 11: Test method for soil gas with sampling at depth by using active devices RTM1688-2 and RAD 7. The measurements were performed in real conditions where the radon concentration varied following a typical daily variation. Indoor radon concentrations were measured at four locations, while radon measurements in soil were performed at one location, all at the Vinča Institute site in the period from October 1 to October 8, 2021. The exposure period was consistent with a typical soil and indoor radon measurement protocols. The radon concentration in the soil was measured at depths of 20 cm and 80 cm. The robust mean and robust standard deviation were calculated as the mean of all measured radon concentrations (excluding outliers) and their standard deviation. Reference values of indoor radon covered the wide range of concentrations: (65 ± 9) Bq m-3 , (519 ± 80) Bq m-3 , (900 ± 160) Bq m-3 , (1980 ± 160) Bq m-3 , while in the soil reference values were (13350 ± 780) Bq m-3 and (26100 ± 2400) Bq m-3 at 20 cm and 80 cm depth, respectively. In order to assess whether there is a statistically significant difference between individual measurement results and the reference value, the Z - test was used as a criterion for success. If, for the calculated z value, |z| < 2 the result is satisfactory, if 2 < |z| < 3 the result is questionable, while for |z| > 3 result is not acceptable. All results of indoor radon measurements were satisfactory, except in the case of one measurement (for the lowest reference value) with electret, that was at the detection limit. Three laboratories had satisfactory results of radon concentration measurements in the soil, while the results of one laboratory were systematically lower, with z <-3, which indicated the need for additional analysis of the causes of systematic error and the possible need to change measurement protocols and/or re-calibration of used device.

AB - Radon flux measurements provide information about how much radon rises from the ground toward the atmosphere, thus, they could serve as good predictors of indoor radon concentrations. Although there are many different mapping methods with many different input data, radon flux data are generally missing and are not included for the delineation of radon priority areas (RPA). The aim of this literature review is to investigate to what extent radon flux was used, or could be used, for the delineation of RPAs. Numerous factors influencing radon flux were identified, but quantifying their contribution to radon flux measurement still remains a challenge. Different methods and measuring devices were used for the determination of radon flux, thus it is necessary to identify possible inconsistencies in order to harmonise different radon flux measurements. Due to the complexity of radon flux measurements, only two countries were identified to have performed national surveys on outdoor radon, which were of much smaller scale compared to those on indoor radon. A positive correlation between radon flux and radon quantities, such as radon in soil gas and indoor radon, indicates that radon flux could be used as an input parameter for the estimation of RPA. By reviewing radon flux models, it was concluded that up-to-date modelled radon flux maps have reached excellent spatial resolution and will be further improved, hence, they could serve as an input for the estimation and delineation of RPA.

AB - Doses from the exposure to outdoor radon are typically an order of magnitude smaller than those from indoor radon, causing a greater interest on investigation of the latter for radiation protection issues. As a consequence, assessment of radon priority areas (RPA) is mainly based on indoor radon measurements. Outdoor radon measurements might be needed to guarantee a complete estimation of radiological risk and may help to improve the estimation of RPA. Therefore, authors have analysed the available literature on outdoor radon to give an overview of outdoor radon surveys and potential correlation with indoor radon and estimation of RPA. The review has shown that outdoor radon surveys were performed at much smaller scale compared to indoor radon. Only a few outdoor radon maps were produced, with a much smaller density, covering a larger area, and therefore putting doubt on the representativeness of this data. Due to a large variety of techniques used for outdoor radon measurements and requirement to have detectors with a high sensitivity and resistance to harsh environmental conditions, a standardised measurement protocol should be derived. This is no simple endeavour since there are more applications in different scientific disciplines for outdoor radon measurements compared to indoor radon.

AB - Background: Maps are important tools for geographic visualization of the state of the environment with respect to resources as well as to hazards. One of the hazards is indoor radon (Rn), believed to be the most important cause of lung cancer after smoking. In particular, as part of Rn mitigation policy and in compliance with the European Basic Safety Standards, EU Member States have to declare areas with elevated indoor Rn concentration levels. However, as this is done by national authorities according to individually chosen criteria, the resulting maps are not easily comparable. Objective: We aim to identify causes for the lack of compatibility of maps and suggest solutions for the problem.Design: This study draws from experiences of recent research projects, literature, and personal involvement of the authors in the discussions. Results: An overview is given on causes and effects of lack of compatibility between maps. Existing experiences are reported. Options for defining lack of compatibility and for identifying it are discussed. Methods for harmonization, that is, remediating lack of compatibility, are addressed. Conclusions: The difficulty of harmonization increases with the aggregation level of data which support maps. Harmonization is the more difficult, the higher aggregated the data are which support maps. In particular, harmonization of radon priority area maps is technically non-trivial, and theoretical efforts as well as practical tests will have to be undertaken.

AB - The structure of the unbound 15F nucleus is investigated using the inverse kinematics resonant scattering of a radioactive 14O beam impinging on a CH2 target. The analysis of 1H(14O,p)14O and 1H(14O,2p)13N reactions allowed the confirmation of the previously observed narrow 1/2− resonance, near the two-proton decay threshold, and the identification of two new narrow 5/2− and 3/2− resonances. The newly observed levels decay by 1p emission to the ground of 14O, and by sequential 2p emission to the ground state of 13N via the 1− resonance of 14O. Gamow shell model (GSM) analysis of the experimental data suggests that the wave functions of the 5/2− and 3/2− resonances may be collectivized by the continuum coupling to nearby 2p- and 1p-decay channels. The observed excitation function 1H(14O,p)14O and resonance spectrum in 15F are well reproduced in the unified framework of the GSM.

AB - In this work, the radon emanation coefficients for selected building materials that are most often used in Serbia for covering floor surfaces (concrete, concrete screed, granite, glazed ceramic tiles, marble, roofing tile, and terrazzo tile) were determined, and the influence of the material structure on their values. The concentration of 226Ra activity in the samples was determined using the gamma spectrometry method. Radon emanation was measured with the RAD7 device. The porosity of the samples was tested using mercury intrusion porosimetry and water absorption methods, and the structural analysis was performed using x-ray diffraction analysis and x-ray fluorescence analysis. The measured values of 226Ra activity concentrations were in the range (4.93–298) Bq kg−1, and the estimated values of the radon emanation coefficients were in the range (0.55–6.05) %. The obtained results indicate that the chemical and mineralogical composition, method of production, and the 226Ra activity concentration have an influence on the emanation of radon from the material. No significant correlation was found between the radon emanation coefficient and the open porosity of the material, most likely due to the inhomogeneous presence of pores of different dimensions in the materials. It was established that the total value of the emanation coefficient depends on the emanation coefficient for pores ⩽100 μm in size.

AB - This paper aims to estimate a potential radiological risk from different kinds of coals used for domestic heating in Serbia, by measuring the activity concentration of radionuclides and radon exhalation rate. The obtained radon mass exhalation rate ranges from (5.3 ± 3.1) mBqkg–1s–1 to (70.3 ± 9.4) mBqkg –1s–1 and was highest for lignite type of coal. It is estimated that coal stored in the basement could contribute up to 50 Bqm–3 of indoor radon concentration at the ground level. Activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th, 40K, 238U, 235U, and 210Pb in analysed coal samples agree with previously reported concentrations of coal used in Serbia. The values of radium equivalent concentration and external hazard index indicate that the used coal does not represent a significant radiation hazard.

AB - Gamma ray spectrometry with high purity germanium (HPGe) detector is one of the most widely used methods for environmental samples measurements. It is basically a non-destructive method and usually there is no need for the extensive sample preparation. True coincidence summing effect has a significant effect in gamma ray spectrometry analysis, especially in low source-to-detector geometry. Many authors have paid attention to this problem mainly by analyzing and determining coincidence summing correction factors for artificial radionuclides. However, the effect of true coincidence summing can significantly affect the result obtained by gamma ray spectrometry of environmental samples. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the determination of correction factors for coincidence summing of radionuclides from natural series (uranium, thorium and actinium series). Coincidence summing correction factors can be determined in several manners. Application of appropriate software packages is one of the most common. Software packages EFFTRAN and GESPECOR are among the most used ones. These software are based on Monte Carlo simulation. EFFTRAN is efficiency transfer code with semiempirical approach, whereas GESPECOR is dedicated code specifically tailored to solve most of the problems concerning gamma spectrometric measurements. The values of the correction factors depend on the detector geometry as well as the relevant data related to analyzed sample. The geometry of the detector implies the parameters of the detector itself (crystal dimensions, thickness of the dead layer, the thickness of the detector window). On the other hand, the relevant data related to analyzed sample includes dimensions of the container in which the sample is packed, sample density, chemical composition. The aim of this work is to compare coincidence summing factors obtained by using EFFTRAN and GESPEOR software in the case of p-type semiconductor HPGe detector with 30 % relative efficiency. All coincidence summing correction factors were calculated for soil sample in the cylindrical geometry and for radionuclides which are usually analyzed for environmental samples: • for the uranium series: 214Pb for energies 295.22 keV and 351.93 keV; 214Bi for energies 609.32 keV, 1120.29 keV and 1764.54 keV;234mPa for energies 766.36 keV and 1001.03 keV. • for the thorium series: 212Pb for energies 238.63 keV and 300.09 keV; 208Tl for energy 583.19 keV; 212Bi for energy 727.33 keV; 228Ac for energies 911.2 keV and 968.97 keV. • for the actinium series: 235U for energies 143.76 keV, 163.33 keV, 185.71 keV and 205.31 keV. The obtained values of the correction factors for coincidence summing showed a good agreement between these two software packages. Mutual deviations between correction factors calculated by using EFFTRAN and GESPECOR software were within ± 3 %.

AB - The main sources of air pollution in Serbia are the energy sector, which includes thermal power plants, heating plants and individual heating of households, then the transport sector and industrial activity (oil refineries, chemical industry, mining, etc.). It is estimated that the number of premature deaths caused by air pollution in Serbia is among the highest in Europe. The most important parameters for monitoring are the concentration of particles and their size distribution. Sampling of suspended atmospheric particles (particulate matter - PM) fractionated by size was conducted in the period from March 2012 to December 2013 in the suburban part of Belgrade at the background measuring station Zeleno brdo, as a receptor site. Every sixth day, one averaged 48-hour sample of aerosol particles was taken, separated into eleven intervals of aerodynamic particle diameters (Dp) using a low-pressure cascade impactor prof. dr. Berner–LPI \25 /0.0085 /2. The microwave digestion technique was used to destroy the collected aerosol particle deposit from the six tested size ranges: 0.27 ≤ Dp ≤ 0.53 μm, 0.53 ≤ Dp ≤ 1.06 μm, 1.06 ≤ Dp ≤ 2.09 μm, 2.09 ≤ Dp ≤ 4.11 μm, 4.11 ≤ Dp ≤ 8.11 μm and 8.11≤ Dp ≤ 16 μm. Concentrations of 25 test elements were determined using induced conjugated plasma by mass spectrometry. The most common elements in the tested aerosol were Ca, Fe, Al, K and Mg. The highest percentage of As, Cd, K, Pb and Sb was present in the fractions of fine mode particles, while in the coarse mode Al, Ba, Ca, Cr, Fe, Mg, Mn and Ti dominated. Subsequently, gamma spectrometric analysis of the samples was performed. One part of the study included the measurement of each of the 11 fractions separately, and the other part the analysis of all 11 fractions at once. Also, the activities of several different samples of the same fraction were measured. Traces of natural radionuclides were found in the spectrum, while radionuclides of artificial origin were not detected. The paper discusses the investigated correlations of the obtained results of the activity concentrations of radionuclides with the dominant elemental composition and particle diameter, as well as the possible origin of air pollution.

abstract = "Glavni izvori aerozagađenja u Srbiji su energetski sektor u koji spadaju termoelektrane, toplane i pojedinačno grejanje domaćinstava, potom transportni sektor i industrijska aktivnost (rafinerije nafte, hemijska industrija, rudarstvo i sl.). U radu su diskutovane istražene korelacije dobijenih rezultata koncentracije aktivnosti radionuklida sa dominantnim elementarnim sastavom i dijametrom čestica, kao i moguće poreklo aerozagađenja., The main sources of air pollution in Serbia are the energy sector, which includes thermal power plants, heating plants and individual heating of households, then the transport sector and industrial activity (oil refineries, chemical industry, mining, etc.).
AB - The gammaspectrometric measurement of the environmental samples requires the use of appropriate calibration standards in order to achieve the accuracy and precision of the obtained results. Taking into account that the standards lose their quality over time due to the degradation of the matrix, it is extremely important to keep tracking their stability. Comprehensive reconsideration on efficiency curves with respect to the ageing of calibration standards is presented in this paper. Spiked laboratory standards of different matrices (active coal, soil and sand) were prepared in two measurement geometries, PVC cylindrical 120 ml and 250 ml boxes. The same standards were measured after four years in contact geometry on the detector and upside down (box cover towards the detector). The analysis of the obtained results showed discrepancies in efficiency values and it indicates that the homogeneity of standards is disturbed. Such standards are not reliable for use.
