AB - Gaining a momentum from newly emerging properties of nanomaterials the further enhancement and integration of various functionalities have been made possible. Also, it became apparent that interaction between nano-objects can provide additional synergy capable of yielding new or significantly improved properties. This particularly applies to the surfaces and interfaces of nanomaterials where the intimate contact between components amplifies possible contributions of interfacial interactions. Since this aspect of interaction-property relation in many nanocomposites is still insufficiently explored, it is of interest to identify to what extent the properties emerge as a result of interaction-based synergy or a co-action of individual components. To address these aspects, we have investigated a nanocomposite of graphene oxide (GO) and 12-tungstophosporic acid (WPA) – a combination of materials that are known for the rich “portfolio” of properties. In the talk the novel findings will be presented that contribute to better the understanding of interactions between nano-objects and how they contribute to novel properties. The results are showing how simple temperature treatment and weight ratio of components is influencing the evolution of surface, structural properties and charge storage properties – all closely connected to interactions between components. Finally, the implications on synthetic approaches and fine-tuning of the functionality of GO/WPA nanocomposites will be discussed from the perspective of the obtained results.

AB - The possibility of surface functionalization and formation of stable aqueous suspensions make graphene oxide (GO) suitable as base for composite materials, especially with nanoparticles. Cobalt ferrite (CFO) has attracted attention due to its unique properties such as large magnetic anisotropy, high coercivity, moderate saturation magnetization, excellent chemical stability, mechanical hardness, etc. This study presents the electrochemical properties of GO and CFO composites, as well as CFO doped with zinc (CFO_Zn) and gallium (CFO_Ga). Magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized using the solvothermal method, after which the oleic acid was exchanged with dihydrocaffeic acid to obtain the hydrophilic material. GO was synthesized using a modified Hummer's method. Composites of GO and magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized by the hydrothermal method (T = 120 °C, t = 3 h), with nominal fractions of 5 and 15 wt.% of magnetic nanoparticles. X-ray structural diffraction, as well as FTIR analysis, confirmed the complete oxidation of graphene layers. SEM and TEM images showed deposition of magnetic nanoparticles on GO layer with the different distribution density between 5 wt.% and 15 wt.% composites. Also, shape and size of magnetic nanoparticles remained unchanged. Based on FTIR analysis of hydrothermally treated GO and composites a partial reduction of epoxy groups was found along with hydrogen bond established between the components of the composite. The electrochemical charge storage of composites is mainly of pseudocapacitive nature, which originates from the oxidoreduction reactions of H+ ions from electrolytes and surface functional groups of GO. The best electrochemical properties, in terms of the highest specific capacity, were shown by the composite which contains 15 wt.% CFO, which value is 36.86 F g-1 at a polarization rate of 5 mV s-1

AB - In this paper, the physicochemical properties of nanocomposites of graphene oxide (GO) and cobalt ferrite nanoparticles CFO NPs (pristine and doped with zinc and gallium, CFO_Zn, CFO_Ga) were investigated. CFO, CFO_Zn and CFO_Ga NPs were synthesized using the solvothermal method with oleic acid (OA) as a surfactant. X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the presence of pure ferrite phase while transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed spherical and non-agglomerated NPs with average size of 5±1 nm. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) has confirmed bridging bidentate interaction between the oleic acid and the metal atoms on the surface of the NPs, while Raman spectroscopy results confirmed the incorporation of zinc and gallium in the spinel structure. Prior to preparation of nanocomposite with GO, an OA coating has been exchanged with dihydrocaffeic acid (DHCA). DHCA binds to surface of NPs through both covalent bridging bidentate interaction and catechol groups, as determined by FTIR. Nanocomposite has been obtained by adding CFO(_Zn/Ga) NPs to a GO suspension with nominal fractions of 5 to 15 wt.%, followed by homogenization and hydrothermal treatment (T=120 °C, t=3 h). TEM results revealed that the shape and size of NPs remain unchanged in nanocomposite, while FTIR results have shown that hydrogen bond is established between the functional groups of GO and DHCA. Electrochemical properties of individual components and nanocomposite were examined by cyclic voltammetry. The best electrochemical properties, in terms of the highest specific capacity, were shown by the composite which contains 15 wt.% CFO NPs.

AB - In the last two decades, cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4, CFO) has attracted extensive attention due to its applicability in data storage, catalysis, energy, environment, and in particular, biomedicine. To further extend applicability and improve understanding of fundamental processes, the present work investigates the influence of heteroatoms on physicochemical properties of CFO. Solvothermal method was used for designing a non-agglomerated particles with uniform morpho-structural properties. The physicochemical properties of Zn2+ and Ga3+ substituted CFO nanoparticles were examined (Co(1-x)ZnxFe2O4 and CoGaxFe(2-x)O4; x=0, 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5). The X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements confirmed the presence of pure cubic spinel phase in all samples, while the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed sphere-like nanoparticles with a mean diameter of 6±1 nm. The amount of adsorbed oleic acid on the surface of the nanoparticles, determined by thermogravimetric (TG) analysis indicates the formation of a complete monolayer of surfactant. The FT-IR analysis substantiated the presence of oleic acid on the surface of the nanoparticles and discovered its covalent bonding to the metal atoms. Substitution of host-atoms was also confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. Magnetic measurements revealed the influence of heteroatoms on saturation magnetization and magnetic anisotropy, showing for all the samples superparamagnetic behaviour at room temperature. The substitution of Co2+ and Fe3+ ions with Zn2+ and Ga3+, respectively, leads to the change in chemical composition and cationic distribution of CFO and consequently to variation of its magnetic properties.

The substitution of Co2+ and Fe3+ ions with Zn2+ and Ga3+, respectively, leads to the change in chemical composition and cationic distribution of CFO and consequently to variation of its magnetic properties.",

AB - This paper presents the analysis and comparison of energy and environmental properties of various city bus systems: diesel and compressed natural gas internal combustion engines, trolleybus, and battery electric bus. It is based on experimental research on fuel and energy consumption of city buses with aforementioned propulsion systems carried out under similar driving conditions - on the same city bus lines in Belgrade and Novi Sad, and on evaluation of energy efficiency and CO2 emission of real electricity production in Serbia. In this way, "tank-to-wheel" and "well-to-wheel" energy consumption and CO2 emissions of considered bus driving systems have been evaluated and compared. The results show all complexity of the matter since benefits of application of different systems largely depends on bus exploitation conditions and even more of the conditions of electric energy production. The compressed natural gas internal combustion engine compared to the Diesel engine provides obviously benefit in harmful gas emissions. However, CO2 emissions are on a similar level, while energy efficiency is even less. Electric propulsion systems provide undoubtedly benefit in energy consumption, harmful gases and CO2 emissions if tank-to-wheel conditions are considered, but well-to-wheel characteristics strongly depend on the condition of electric energy production.

AB - In this paper some initial results concerning the evolution of flame propagation in 4-valve engines with tilted valves were presented. Results were obtained by dint of multidimensional modeling of reactive flows in arbitrary geometry with moving boundaries. During induction fluid flow pattern was characterized with organized tumble motion followed by small but clearly legible deterioration in the vicinity of BDC. During compression the fluid flow pattern is entirely three-dimensional and fully controlled by vortex motion located in the central part of the chamber. The effect of turbulence model variation on flame propagation was tackled as well. Namely, some results obtained with eddy-viscosity model i.e. standard k-epsilon model were compared with results obtained with k-xi-f model of turbulence in domain of 4-valve engine in-cylinder flow. Some interesting results emerged rendering impetus for further quest in the near future. In the case of combustion all differences ensuing from turbulence model variation, encountered in the case of non-reactive flow were annihilated entirely. Namely the interplay between fluid flow pattern and flame propagation is invariant as regards both turbulence models applied.

AB - This review paper considers possible instrumentation for diesel engine fine particles exhaust emission evaluation. The modern diesel engines have extremely low particles emission almost at the level of measurement error of existing gravimetric measurement method. Since coarse particles are eliminated by new engine technologies, fine particles, with very negative effects on human health, dominate in the emission of current diesel engine. Therefore, it is necessary not only to measure mass of emitted particles but also to investigate other important particle characteristics as: particles number, particle size, particle number and mass distribution, particle active surface, particle composition, etc. Therefore, existing measurement technologies used in aerosol science can be used also to study diesel engine particles properties. This most common instrumentation in aerosol technique is shortly reviewed in the paper with special attention on candidate instruments included in EU program on portable emissions measurement systems.

AB - In this paper some results concerning the evolution of 3-D fluid flow pattern through all four strokes in combustion chambers with entirely different bowl-in-piston geometry layouts ranging from omega to simple cylinder were presented. All combustion chambers i. e. those with omega bowls, with different profiles, and those with cylinder bowls, with different squish area ranging from 44% to 62%, were with flat head, vertical valves, and identical elevation of intake and exhaust ports. A bunch of results emerged by dint of multidimensional modeling of non-reactive fluid flow in arbitrary geometry with moving objects and boundaries. The fluid flow pattern during induction and compression in all cases was extremely complicated and entirely 3-D. It should be noted that significant differences due to geometry of the bowl were encountered only in the vicinity of top dead centre. Namely, in the case of omega bowl all three types of organized macro flows were observed while in the case of cylinder bowl no circumferential velocity was registered at all. On the contrary, in the case of cylinder bowl some interesting results concerning reverse tumble and its center of rotation shifting from exhaust valve zone to intake valve zone during induction stroke and vice-verse from intake valve zone to exhaust valve zone during compression were observed while in the case of omega bowl no such a displacement was legible. During expansion the fluid flow pattern is fully controlled by piston motion and during exhaust it is mainly 1-D, except in the close proximity of exhaust valve. For that reason it is not affected by the geometry of the bowl.

AB - This paper presents voltametric studies of the linuron insecticide (3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1methoxy-1-methylureum) on a boron doped glassy carbon (GCB), glassy carbon (GC) prepared in our laboratory and commercial glassy carbon electrode. The method, operated in the differential pulse voltammetric mode, works in the concetracion range from 0.62 to 26.09 mg L-1. We determined a peak potential, Ep, (1.25V), linear range and LOD for linuron in the sulfuric acid as a supporting electrolyte (pH=0.7) for all applied electrodes. GCB shows the broadest linear range and sensitivity. This appears to be the first aplication of a boron doped glassy carbon electrode to the voltammetric determination of linuron insecticide.

AB - In this paper a simplified procedure of an internal combustion engine in-cylinder pressure record analysis has been presented The method is very easy for programming and provides quick evaluation of the gas temperature and the rate of combustion. It is based on the consideration proposed by Hohenberg and Killman, but enhances the approach by involving the rate of heat transferred to the walls that was omitted in the original approach. It enables the evaluation of the complete rate Of heat released by combustion (often designated as gross heat release rate or fuel chemical energy release rate), not only the rate of heat transferred to the gas (which is often designated as net heat release rate). The accuracy of the method has been also analyzed and it is shown that the errors caused by the simplifications in the model are very small, particularly if the crank angle step is also small A several practical applications on recorded pressure diagrams taken from both spark ignition and compression ignition engine are presented as well.

AB - In this paper some results concerning the combined effect of the fumble flow and combustion chamber geometry layout variations on flame front shape and its propagation through homogenous mixture of isooctane and air are presented Spatial distributions of NO in different combustion chamber geometries are presented as well. The basic combustion chamber geometry layout considered consists of the flat head with two vertical valves and a cylindrical bowl subjected to variations of depth and squish area. All results presented were obtained by dint of multidimensional modeling of reactive flows in arbitrary geometry with moving objects and boundaries with modified KIVA3 and KIVA3 V source codes. Two additional computer codes were applied to generate boundary conditions for KIVA3 V calculations with moving valves. The AVL TYCON code was used for the calculation of valve lift profiles, and A VL BOOST code was used for the calculation of relevant data set in the valve regions. Different combustion chamber geometry layouts generate different levels of squish, and the combustion effects in essence depend on the interaction of that flow with tumble. It was found that for particular combustion chamber shapes with different diameter/depth aspect ratios entirely different flame front shapes and propagation velocities were encountered primarily due to variations of fluid flow patterns in the vicinity of top dead center.
