Smanjenje sadržaja bora u LiF/B sistemu (1:1) rezultira malo izmenjenim masenim spektrom. Intenzitet Li2(BH18) - i LiF2(BH3) - opada, dok druga dva jona pokazuju blago izmenjen sastav: Li2F(B3H2) - i LiF2(BH5)3 - .
AB - Many theoretical calculations have shown that lithium decoration of borane (BxHy) or boron (Bn) clusters are potential materials for hydrogen storage. In addition, lithium fluoride clusters have been shown to improve hydrogen storage capacity better than lithium itself. However, the number of experimental studies is much smaller. Therefore, in this work, the possibility of interaction of lithium or lithium fluoride clusters with boranes was investigated by laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI MS). The preliminary results have shown that the negative mode LDI mass spectra of the suspension of LiF/B (1:3) in deionized water include Li2(BH18) - , LiF2(BH3) - , LiB2(BH3)2 - LiF2LiB(BH4)2 - ions. The reducing the boron content in the LiF/B system (1:1) results in a little changed mass spectrum. The intensities of Li2(BH18) - and LiF2(BH3) - decrease, while two other ions show a slightly changed composition: Li2F(B3H2) - and LiF2(BH5)3 - . The results show that the Li2 and “superhalogen” LiF2 clusters can interact with boranes. In both cases, the most intense ions were complexes between “superhalogen”-LiF2 and boranes.

AB - One of the most important means of controlling the operation of coal-fired power plant (CFPP) is the continuous monitoring of naturally occurring activity concentrations of radionuclides contained primarily in coal and, consequently, in ash and slag samples, the main coal combustion products that must be disposed of in landfills due to their high production. The activity concentrations of the naturally occurring radionuclides 238U, 235U, 226Ra, 210Pb, 232Th, and 40K, which could potentially be released into the environment as a result of the CFPP operation, are regularly monitored in the samples of coal, slag, and fly ash, as well as in the samples of ash piles on the active and passive cassettes and in the soil sampled at lesser and greater distances from the CFPP. The aim of this work is to analyse the results of the multi-year activity concentration measurements carried out in the period from 2010 to 2022. The annual activity concentration values measured for each studied radionuclide and each of the seven sample types were observed as a chronological sequence of data forming discrete time series, which, according to the results of statistical analysis, may be described as white noise processes.

AB - The potential relationship between the obtained results for the tritium concentration in precipitation and in the Sava and Danube River in Belgrade was analyzed. Sampling was done during 2021. All samples were concentrated using the method with electrolytic enrichment, while a liquid scintillation spectrometer was used for tritium detection. The obtained results were used to calculate the amount of tritium deposited per m2 of surface as well as to estimate the average flow of tritium in rivers based on river water flow. The obtained distribution of tritium was interpreted in accordance with meteorological and hydrological parameters.

AB - The conducted research is focused on the analysis of the trend of changes in gross alpha and gross beta activity in agricultural soil and crops of perennial experimental fields. The analysis was performed using an accredited method for determining gross alpha and gross beta activity in solid matrix. The measurements were performed in the Radiation and Environmental Protection Department in Vinča Institute of nuclear Sciences on a low-level gas proportional counter Thermo Eberline FHT 770T. The measured values of gross alpha activity varied from 158 Bq/kg to 324 Bq/kg, and from 600 Bq/kg to 1324 Bq/kg for the gross beta activity in soil samples. For plant samples, values ranged from 5 Bq/kg to 167 Bq/kg of dry matter, and from 180 Bq/kg to 584 Bq/kg of dry matter for gross alpha and gross beta activity, respectively. The results of the research are significant, because they provide basic radiological information of vital importance for the investigated area. This is the first attempt to generate data base on the radiation load of soil and crops of the agricultural ecosystem with alpha and beta emitters, which were determined by the screening method for environmental monitoring.

AB - This manuscript presents the results of measurement of naturaly occurring radionuclides and 137Cs in 15 samples of medicinal herbes originating at the theritory of Republic of Serbia. The samples were procured from the Institute for research of medicinal herbes “Dr Josif Pančić” in Belgrade. They were chosen so that they contain various parts (roots, stem or flower) of the same plant in order to assess different distribution of the radionuclides in various plant parts. The aactivity concentration of naturaly occurring radionuclides 238U, 235U i 210Pb was below the minimal detectable concentration (MDC), 226Ra was detected in 3, 137Cs in 5 and 232Th in one sample. Based on the obtained values, ingestion dose was calculated taking into account that a person drinks 0.2L of tea per day. It is found that the ingestion dose is in the range of 13,8 μSv to 32,3 μSv for 137Cs and 79,7 μSv for 226Ra. This is well below the limit of 0.1 mSv/year recommended by the Rulebook Official Gasette 36/18.

AB - The question that this paper deals with is: "How to present the "sampling day" in temporal composite samples?". The choice of the reference data that will represent the "sampling day" is a matter of agreement, but the results of the activity of the tested radionuclide given on different reference dates are essentially not mutually comparable. The aim of the paper was to examine on which day the corrected measured activity (Ar) most closely determines the total daily activity of all samples on the day of their sampling (Au). It turns out that the day when the difference between these two activities (Δ) is minimal depends on several factors: the total value of daily activities (Au), the temporal distribution of daily values (homogeneity), the length of the collection period (D) and the half-life of the observed radionuclide (T1/2 ). Accordingly, the influence of the variation of mentioned parameters on the change of the optimal reference date for which the value of Δ is minimal (day r) is presented in this paper. The results show some level of regularity in homogeneous samples, however, the inhomogeneity of daily activities, which is the case in reality, has a great influence on the change of the optimal reference date, but for now, without established consistency.

AB - The routine measurements of environmental samples using gamma-ray spectrometry indicate the needs for preparing radioactive standards for various matrices. The radioactive standards are used in all phases of the measurement process, including method validation, calibration and quality control. In the Radiation and Environmental Protection Departmen in the "Vinča" Institute of Nuclear Sciences, radioactive standards are prepared using a certified radioactive solution of mixed radionuclides. The procedure for radioactive standards preparation, which includes matrix selection and preparation, spiking with a certified radioactive solution, homogeneity check, matrix packing in the appropriate geometry and measurement of the prepared standards using a gamma spectrometer, is described in this paper. For all matrix materials, "blank" samples were prepared in the same manner as the standard materials and measured in the same geometry as the calibration samples. After the analysis of recorded spectra and evaluation of the obtained data for efficiency at given energies, calibration curves were obtained by fitting. The uncertainty budget of the activity for all radionuclides present in the prepared standards is also defined in this paper.

AB - In the Radiation and Environmental Protection Department, Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, the validated radiochemical analytical method for 90Sr determination in environmental samples is used. The Laboratory for Radiation Measurements within mentioned Department is accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025. The activity of 90Sr is determined indirectly, by beta counting of its daughter product 90Y, and after established radioactive equilibrium during 18 days from the moment of 90Y radiochemical separation. Beta spectrometry by gas flow proportional counter Thermo Eberline FHT 770T is used for detection of 90Sr activity in investigated samples. In order to assure the reliability of the measurement results in accordance with Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) corresponding procedures need to be applied. For this purpose, activities ought to be planned in a systematic manner as described in the quality control documentation. The efficiency calibration of the detection system needs to be performed in a proper manner. The calibration of the detector for beta counting is performed using the Sr-90 certified radioactive standard point source (9031-OL-335/11, produced by Czech Metrology Institute) which is traceable to Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM). As lowlevel measurements require strict QA/QC requests, the accuracy and reproducibility of measurement systems must be verified periodically. A regular internal quality control of the gas flow proportional counter is performed once a week. Quality control activities include the background measurement and checking of efficiency using adequate radioactive standard source. The measurement values are recorded and verified if they are within the acceptance limits. The obtained results together with acceptance limits during the period of 3 months are graphically presented in control charts. The acceptance limits are set to be ±2σ and ±3σ in relation to the calculated mean value and standard deviation. The results of QC verification within ±2σ are considered to be satisfactory, those within ±3σ are warning, while those that exceeding ±3σ indicate that there is a problem with the measurement system. Consequently, the analysis of causes and design, as well as the application of corrective measures is needed.

AB - This paper presents the results for gross alpha and gross beta activity in leaves samples: Fig (Ficus carica), Vine (Vitis vinifera L.), and Apricot (Prunus armeniaca). Samples were collected in Iraq (Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan region), and in the Serbia (Belgrade), in the summer 2018. The analysis was done in dried and milled samples as well as in the annealed samples, using gas flow proportional counter. Determination of gross alpha and gross beta activity presents rapid method, essential for the analysis of radioactivity in environmental samples. The gross alpha activity is defines as the total activity of alpha emitters, and originates from the decay chains of 238U and 232Th, which quantity depends on the geological and geographical formation of natural radionuclides. The main contributor to the gross beta activity is natural long-lived isotope 40K, as well as 210Pb, 228Ra. The gross beta measurements also include a contribution from anthropogenic radionuclides 137Cs and 90Sr. Radionuclides that emitting low-energy beta radiation (3 H and gaseous or volatile radionuclide such as iodine) cannot be detected by gross beta activity measurements.

AB - Determination of specific activity concentration of radioisotopes in environmental samples can be used to assess the long-term kinetics of the decline of radioisotopes. Based on the obtained activity concentrations of tritium in the Danube, the effective ecological half-life is estimated. Assuming that the Danube in Belgrade is not affected by nuclear power plants, even though it is positioned downstream of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Hungary, a slow decline of tritium was observed. The effective ecological half-life of tritium was also determined after correction by subtracting its components originating from cosmic radiation and the atmospheric transfer from nuclear facilities worldwide.

AB - This paper presents distribution and seasonal variations of tritium, radioactive isotope of hydrogen, in Sava River in Belgrade. Tritium besides its natural origin also has an artificial origin, through human activity including the operation of nuclear power plants, nuclear weapons manufacturing and atomic bomb tests. Knowing the concentration of tritium in the Sava River in Belgrade is important because it is located downstream from the Krško Nuclear Power Plant in Slovenia. Analysis of tritium concentrations in surface water samples were done in composite monthly samples during 2017-2022. Tritium activity was determined by liquid scintillation spectrometer using electrolytic enrichment. Seasonal variations were estimated by determination of average monthly concentrations and seasonal indices.

AB - In this work, the thermal decomposition process of coal bottom ash (collected after lignitecombustion in coal-fired power plant “Kostolac B” (TEKO-B), Serbia) was investigated, usingsimultaneous TG (thermogravimetry) – DTG (derivative thermogravimetry) techniquesin an inert (Ar) atmosphere, at various heating rates (10.3, 20.9 and 32.1 K/min). In additionto thermal characterization of the sample, the chemical composition and naturally occurredradionuclides were also determined. Using the model-free (isoconversional) (by Friedman(FR), Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS), Ozawa-Flynn-Wall (OFW) and Vyazovkin (VY)methods) analysis, the complex kinetic nature of the process was successfully resolved. Theconducted numerical optimization of the process (using non-linear least square optimization)had confirmed accuracy and reliability of estimated kinetic parameters. Model-based(model-fitting) kinetic analysis showed the existence of a complex reaction scheme, overtwo consecutive reactions steps and one single-stage reaction step, via mechanism order An,F2, Fn, R3, Cnm (through n-dimensional nucleation/growth, chemical reactions, and n-thorder and m-power with autocatalysis mechanisms). Through physicochemical interpretationof mechanism scheme, an assessment of recovery of valuable metals and metal oxides wasperformed, by analysing the concentration of reaction species in a function of temperature ofindividual steps. Likewise, the influence of certain precursor involved in decomposition processas catalyst (in order to increase the yield of targeted product) was also inspected. Finally, the simulation of actual process using the results obtained from applied methods/models wasperformed, through application of modulated dynamic (MD) prediction.

AB - Measurement of radon (222Rn) concentration using charcoal filters according to the EPA 520/5-87-005 method is performed in Radiation and Environment Protection Department of Vinča Institute for Nuclear Sciences on NaI scintillation detectors. Concentration of radon adsorbed on active charcoal is determined indirectly, by gamma spectrometry of its daughter products via their gamma peaks at 295 keV, 352 keV (214Pb) and 609 keV (214Bi). In order to assure the reliability of the measurement results, and in accordance with Standard ISO 17025/17 quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) procedures needs to be applied. Related activities ought to be planned, described in the quality control documentation, performed in a systematic manner, recorded and reviewed. First, the energy and efficiency calibration of the detection system needs to be performed in a proper manner. The NaI scintillation spectrometer is internally calibrated using the certified radioactive 226Ra standard in charcoal matrix and in the geometry identical to the measurement geometry, produced by Czech Metrology Institute and traceable to Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM). As defined in laboratory’s procedures a regular quality control of the NaI scintillation detector is performed once a week. Quality control activities include the background measurement and measurement of adequate reference material. Gross background count rate in the energy region of interest is used to verify that the detector and shield have not been contaminated and that there is no significant variation of the background. Reference material used is the soil sample with known content of 226Ra. Gross count rate in the reference material spectrum is used to check the energy and efficiency calibration. These values are recorded and verified if they are within the acceptance limits. Obtained results, together with acceptance limits, for a certain period (one year usually) is graphically presented in the control charts. The acceptance limits for background count rate and reference material gross count rate in the energy region of interest are defined according to the statistical analysis of the data from previous QC period. The mean and standard deviation is calculated and the acceptance limits are set to be ±2σ and ±3σ. QC measurement results falling between ±2σ are considered to be satisfactory, while those falling inside ±3σ are warning. QC measurement results exceeding ±3σ indicate that there is a problem with the measurement system and that analysis of causes and design and application of corrective measures are needed. Analysing the control charts for the previous QC period (year 2022) showed that the controlled parameters were within the defined limits of acceptance. Occasional discrepancies, mainly due to background variation, were minor and were addressed immediately. Background variation was treated simply by repeated measurements after additional ventilation of the measurement laboratory

Proračunom su procenjeni sledeći parametri radijacionog rizika: ukupna jačina doze gama zračenja (srednja vrednost 28,6 nGy/h), godišnja efektivna doza (srednja vrednost 0,035 mSv) i indeks radijacionog rizika usled spoljašnjeg izlaganja (srednja vrednost 0,169).

AB - Polymers and polymer composites have wide application in every industrial field, and are a subject of continuous research from different scientific aspects [1,2]. However, most commercial polymers are oil refinery based products. Recently, due to a growing concern for oil depletion, researchers have been focused on modification of polymers, as well as reinforcements [3,4]. Epoxy resin is the most commonly used adhesive that can be improved with fiber or particle reinforcements, or by using chemical modifiers. Modifying agents from renewable resources show potential in replacing oil-based compounds, because of their abundance, low price and heterogeneous structure that offers number of reactive groups [5]. In our research, honey was used as a bio-based modifier for diglycidyl ether of bisphenolA (DGEBA) based epoxy resin, with the aim of investigating structural changes. MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry [6] was used as a powerful technique that is able to reveal presence of functional groups and modified epoxy resin structure. In this manner, successful chemical modification of epoxy resin was confirmed, which further opened the path for the investigation of honey potential as epoxy modifying agent.

AB - Biomass waste recovery is an environmentally friendly method of waste management and sustainable energy production that effectively reduces greenhouse gas emissions and mitigates climate change. As a result, biomass is emerging as a significant source of renewable energy, replacing fossil fuels to power a green and sustainable society and accelerate the development of a circular bio-economy. Thermochemical conversion processes are the most efficient form of biomass utilization for energy production. Gasification of biomass as one of these processes is given special attention in this paper. The concise fundamentals of this process are presented, the types of gasifiers are described and a brief overview of plasma gasification is given with the highlighted advantages and challenges in its application.

AB - One of the most crucial things that humanity needs in the modern world is sufficient energy production. The main energy source used globally is fossil fuel, whose constant consumption not only harms the environment but also speeds up their depletion. Hydrogen produced from biomass residues can be a good option for clean energy production and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions into the environment. In this paper, the possibility of hydrogen production by steam gasification of soybean straw in the Mačva region in the Republic of Serbia was studied. Additionally, possible applications of hydrogen potential in electricity production and road transport were assessed. The obtained results show that the gasification of soybean straw in the Mačva region can produce 171,184 kg of hydrogen and generate 3,420,256 kWh of electricity. The estimated hydrogen potential in the Mačva region allows hydrogen-powered vehicles to go 17,118,400 kilometers. This study can contribute to integrating crop cultivation and the hydrogen economy in the Mačva region.

AB - Biomass is considered as an important renewable resource, which plays a key role in the development of sustainable energy systems. Biomass can be converted into energy or valuable chemicals by combustion, liquefaction, pyrolysis and gasification. Among these processes, thermal gasification “decomposes” biomass into the light chemical species at high temperatures, which can be applied to biomass with the greatest diversity. As the final (target) product of biomass gasification, syngas or gas rich in hydrogen (H2), are very important intermediate products in the petrochemical industry. However, the problematic tar produced during gasification could bring a number of problems. Catalytic biomass gasification is a promising strategy to significantly alleviate these problems. Transition metal-based catalysts for catalytic biomass gasification have been studied in recent decades. This review discusses various transition metal catalysts for biomass gasification, including nickel (Ni)-based monometallic and bimetallic catalysts and other Fe- and Pt-based catalysts. The performance of these catalysts is evaluated based on the applied reaction parameters, the quality of the syngas produced, and the tar reduction performance. Applications of DFT (‛Density Functional Theory’) calculations and AI (‛Artificial Intelligence’) to study biomass gasification mechanisms are summarized, and the cause of catalyst deactivation and regeneration of spent catalysts are also discussed. Likewise, in this review, the development potential of catalytic gasification of biomass in the Republic of Serbia was considered.

AB - This paper presents application of a nuclear technique for the analysis of radioactivity in supplements using gas proportional counter as well as application of analytical technique Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-MS) in order to characterize the radioactivity contents and stability of the chemical structures for commercial supplements. Gas proportional counter enables to determination of gross alpha and gross beta activity in the environmental samples, where they are present as ultra trace elements. Also, MALDI-MS method is used, since it represents an excellent analytical technique for detecting large number of biologically important molecules, such as commercial supplements.

AB - The construction sector is responsible for approximately 39% of energy use and process-related carbon dioxide emissions. Mixing waste materials into concrete, as a substitute for cement and/or aggregate, increases energy efficiency and sustainability in general. Additionally, pressure on the environment is decreasing by reducing the amount of exploitation of natural raw materials. On the other hand, the rapid progress of the electronic industry has led to the generation of a large amount of electrical waste before the end of its useful life. Disposal of old monitors and TV screens, i.e. their cathode-ray tubes (CRT), represents a major problem for the environment because CRT waste is classified as hazardous due to its high lead content. This paper deals with an overview of investigations on CRT waste utilization in cement materials in order to increase sustainability and encourage a circular economy in the construction sector.

AB - Gabrovnica, uranium mine near Kalna in the Eastern Serbia was a natural ore with uranium content. Exploitation of the uranium ore in this region was started in the 1960s and it was terminated in 1996. The aim of this work was to analyze radiological characterization of environmental samples around uranium mine Gabrovnica. Soil samples were taken in the autumn of 2022 and spring 2023, while surface soil samples (Gabrovnička River) were taken continuously for six month (July-December 2022 and January-June 2023). All samples were analyzed in order to determine gross alpha and gross beta activities and measured on ultra low level gas proportional counter Thermo-Eberline FHT 770T.

AB - The applicability of solid bricks waste in geopolymerization technique was considered. Waste samples were characterized in terms of mineralogical composition by XRD prior to mechanical testing. XRD analysis showed that both brick samples contained anorthite, wollastonite, and mullite as the main components. The compressive strength investigation was carried out by screening method with three geopolymer mixtures. Geopolymer mixtures were prepared with alkaline activators; the mixtures were poured into molds and air-dried for 28 days. The compressive strength of samples was measured according to the standard SRPS EN 12390-3:2010 for cubic samples. The compressive strength values ranged from 9.8 MPa for the newer solid brick, 10.2 MPa for the older solid brick, and 10.5 MPa for the solid brick mix waste geopolymer sample. The most likely underlying reason for the higher compressive strength results of the older solid brick and the mixed sample is their mineral composition, i.e. higher proportion of aluminosilicate. However, all samples showed satisfactory compressive strengths, and it represents an excellent basis for further research.
