AB - Supercritical CO2 impregnation process was used for the first time to fabricate biodegradable gelatin-chitosan (G/Ch) films containing clove oil (CO) for potential use in active food packaging. All the impregnations were carried out at moderately low temperature (40 °C). Aiming to maximize CO loading in the films with acceptable morphological, structural and thermal properties, CO2 pressure, impregnation time and G:Ch mass ratio were varied. Gelatin fraction in the films of 25-50 wt.%, scCO2 pressures of 10-20 MPa and impregnation time of 2-6 h impregnation favoured the CO loading. Processing of the film with equal gelatin to chitosan mass ratio (G/Ch50:50) at 10 MPa for 2 h yielded sufficiently high loading (56 mg CO/gfilm) without an adverse effect on morphological properties. The G/Ch50:50 film was therefore chosen for structural and thermal analyses. ATR-FTIR analysis confirmed successful CO incorporation into the G/Ch50:50 and its interaction with the film. Plasticizing effect of scCO2 and CO on the film was evidenced by DSC. Incorporation of 56 mg CO/gfilm into the G/Ch50:50 didn't affect thermal stability of the film. Beside environmental benefits, supercritical impregnation process enables fast fabrication of G/Ch bio-composite films containing CO, thermally stable to 110 °C, which is suitable for most of food packaging applications. © 2019, CI and CEQ. AB - Starting hematite (Fe2O3), zinc oxide (ZnO) and manganese carbonate (MnCO3) powders were homogenized in a planetary ball mill in stainless steel bowls with stainless steel balls for 15 min, calcined in air at 1000 C for 2 h, milled in a planetary ball mill for 30 minutes, followed by 4 h in an aghate mill, sieved through a 325 mesh to form four starting powders: MnFe2O4, ZnFe2O4, Mn0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 and a two-phase mixture of zinc and manganese ferrite. Structural properties of the obtained powders were analyzed using XRD, SEM and EDS. Electrical properties of disk shaped samples were measured at room temperature on an impedance analyzer in the frequency range 100 to 40 MHz, enabling determination and comparison of dielectric permittivity and complex impedance. Complex relative permeability of toroid shaped samples was measured on an impedance analyzer in the frequency range from 1 MHz to 500 MHz.

AB - Commercial Mn-Zn ferrite powder was milled in a planetary ball mill for 30-240 minutes. Particle size distribution in the milled powders was analyzed using a laser particle size analyzer and correlated with XRD and SEM analysis of the milled powders. Green disc and torroid samples were sintered in air in the temperature interval 800 -1300oC for 2 hours. SEM/EDS, AFM/MFM analysis of the sintered samples and measurements of their electrical properties such as DC resistance up to 500 MHz enabled establishment of a correlation between the microstructure and properties in the high-frequency range.

AB - Multiply doped ceria nanopowders were synthesized by applying MGNP (modified glycine/nitrate procedure). The overall concentration of dopants was kept constant (x = 0.2) whereby Gd ion as the main dopant was gradually substituted by Sm and by Sm + Y. The compositions of solid solutions were calculated by applying defect model introducing anion vacancy radius. Characterization of powders involved BET, TEM, XRD and chemical analyses. Densification was performed at 1500 degrees C, in an oxygen atmosphere for 1 h. The results showed that with increasing number of dopants, specific surface area of powders increased, followed by decrease of crystallite and grain sizes. Densification degree was also found to rise with increasing number of dopants. According to impedance measurements it was found that ionic conductivity was the highest 1.14 x 10(-3) S cm(-1) at 450 degrees C in sample doped with Gd, Sm and Y simultaneously. abstract = "Multiply doped ceria nanopowders were synthesized by applying MGNP (modified glycine/nitrate procedure). AB - Nanopowdered solid solution Ce(1-x)Fe(x)O(2-delta) samples (0 LT = x LT = 0.1) were synthesized by a self-propagating room temperature synthesis (SPRT). XRD and Raman spectroscopy at room temperature were used to study the vibrational properties of these materials as well as the Fe solubility in ceria lattice. Results show that all obtained powders are solid solutions with a fluorite-type crystal structure and all powders were nanometric in size. The average size of Ce(1-x)Fe(x)O(2-delta) particles lies about 5 nm. The results of electrical properties of the sintered samples investigated by an ac impedance spectroscopy are also presented and discussed. It was confirmed that Fe(3+) doped ceria material has a potential as electrolyte for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cell applications. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

AB - In this work pure and doped LMO were prepared using modified Pechini method from lanthanum and manganese citrates. Lanthanum citrate was prepared starting from La2O3, while manganese citrate was prepared from Mn(NO3)(2). Valence state of the manganese was controlled by adjusting pH value of the solution and confirmed by EPR and UV/VIS analysis. Thermal treatment conditions for preparation of LMO powders were determined from TG/DTA of dried precursors. XRD results confirmed that pure perovskite phase was successfully prepared in single LMO and Ca-doped LMO. SEM and measurements of specific surface area of the powders showed the existence of large agglomerates consisting of submicronic primary particles.

AB - The aim of this work was to prepare lanthanum nickel oxide (LaNiO3, LNO) thin films of different morphology and orientation. The precursor solutions were prepared by a chemical method from citric salts of lanthanum and nickel. Films were deposited using spin-on technique on Si (10 0) substrates. Tailoring of the films orientation and morphology has been attained through two thermal treatment processes with different heating 9 devices: tubular furnace (process 1) and hot plate (process 2). Films were annealed at 600 and 700 degrees C, with heating rates: 20 degrees C/min (process 1) and I degrees C/min (process 2). Annealing times were from 30 min to 20 h. LNO films were characterized by AFM and X-ray diffraction analysis. Depending on the heating process applied, the obtained films showed very different structures, from completely amorphous to well crystallized and highly oriented. Films treated by process I were polycrystalline, had smaller oval grains and lower roughness parameters than films heated on a hot plate. Due to the low heating rate and heating from the substrate side, films obtained through process 2 were highly (I 10) oriented with elongated grains aligned along one direction.
