AB  - This paper presents the results of gamma spectrometry measurements of natural radionuclides ( 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K) in some floor and wall ceramic tiles produced in Serbia and used in homes and workplaces. The level of radioactivity of some ceramic tiles produced in Serbia by two major manufacturers–Zorka Keramika and Toza Markovic was examined. The measured mean value of the activity concentration of 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K exceeds the average values in the world for building materials with values of 67.2±6.9 Bq kg-1 for 226Ra, 57.4±4.7 Bq kg-1 for 232Th and 808±48 Bq kg-1 for 40K. Based on these calculated values, the representative level index gamma index, associated with gamma radiation, whose average value is 0.78±0.06, and annual effective dose, whose average value is 0.117±0.009 mSv y-1 for home was obtained. Estimated values fulfill all the recommendations of the European Union for building materials, thus analyzed materials are considered not to be a health hazard for the public.

AB  - Glavni izvori aerozagađenja u Srbiji su energetski sektor u koji spadaju termoelektrane, toplane i pojedinačno grejanje domaćinstava, potom transportni sektor i industrijska aktivnost (rafinerije nafte, hemijska industrija, rudarstvo i sl.). Procenjeno je da je broj preranih smrti izazvanih aerozagađenjem u Srbiji, među najvećima u Evropi. Najvažniji parametri za praćenje su koncentracija čestica i njihova raspodela u veličini. Uzorkovanje suspendovanih čestica atmosfere (particulate matter - PM) frakcionisanih po veličini sprovedeno je u periodu od marta 2012. godine do decembra 2013. godine u suburbanom delu Beograda na pozadinskoj mernoj stanici Zeleno brdo, kao receptorskom mestu. Svaki šesti dan uziman je po jedan usrednjeni 48-časovni uzorak aerosolnih čestica razdvojenih na jedanaest intervala aerodinamičkih prečnika čestica (particle diameter - Dp) pomoću kaskadnog impaktora niskog pritiska prof. dr. Bernera - LPI 25/0,0085/2 u opsegu veličine čestica (0,0085 μm < Dp< 16 μm). Tehnika mikrotalasne digestije korišćena je za razaranje sakupljenog depozita aerosolnih čestica iz šest krupnijih frakcija (0,27 μm < Dp< 16 μm). Koncentracije 25 ispitivanih elemenata su određene primenom indukovano spregnute plazme sa masenom spektrometrijom. Najzastupljeniji elementi u ispitivanom aerosolu su bili Ca, Fe, Al, K i Mg. Najveći procentualni udeo As, Cd, K, Pb i Sb bio je prisutan u frakcijama čestica finog moda, dok su u grubom modu dominirali Al, Ba, Ca, Cr, Fe, Mg, Mn i Ti. Naknadno je vršena i gama spektrometrijska analiza uzoraka. Jedan deo ispitivanja je obuhvatao merenje svake od 11 frakcija posebno, a drugi deo analizu svih 11 frakcija odjednom. Takođe, merene su i aktivnosti više različitih uzoraka iste frakcije. U spektru su nađeni u tragovima prirodni radionuklidi, dok radionuklidi veštačkog porekla nisu detektovani. U radu su diskutovane istražene korelacije dobijenih rezultata koncentracije aktivnosti radionuklida sa dominantnim elementarnim sastavom i dijametrom čestica, kao i moguće poreklo aerozagađenja.
AB  - The main sources of air pollution in Serbia are the energy sector, which includes thermal power plants, heating plants and individual heating of households, then the transport sector and industrial activity (oil refineries, chemical industry, mining, etc.). It is estimated that the number of premature deaths caused by air pollution in Serbia is among the highest in Europe. The most important parameters for monitoring are the concentration of particles and their size distribution. Sampling of suspended atmospheric particles (particulate matter - PM) fractionated by size was conducted in the period from March 2012 to December 2013 in the suburban part of Belgrade at the background measuring station Zeleno brdo, as a receptor site. Every sixth day, one averaged 48-hour sample of aerosol particles was taken, separated into eleven intervals of aerodynamic particle diameters (Dp) using a low-pressure cascade impactor prof. dr. Berner–LPI \25 /0.0085 /2. The microwave digestion technique was used to destroy the collected aerosol particle deposit from the six tested size ranges: 0.27 ≤ Dp ≤ 0.53 μm, 0.53 ≤ Dp ≤ 1.06 μm, 1.06 ≤ Dp ≤ 2.09 μm, 2.09 ≤ Dp ≤ 4.11 μm, 4.11 ≤ Dp ≤ 8.11 μm and 8.11≤ Dp ≤ 16 μm. Concentrations of 25 test elements were determined using induced conjugated plasma by mass spectrometry. The most common elements in the tested aerosol were Ca, Fe, Al, K and Mg. The highest percentage of As, Cd, K, Pb and Sb was present in the fractions of fine mode particles, while in the coarse mode Al, Ba, Ca, Cr, Fe, Mg, Mn and Ti dominated. Subsequently, gamma spectrometric analysis of the samples was performed. One part of the study included the measurement of each of the 11 fractions separately, and the other part the analysis of all 11 fractions at once. Also, the activities of several different samples of the same fraction were measured. Traces of natural radionuclides were found in the spectrum, while radionuclides of artificial origin were not detected. The paper discusses the investigated correlations of the obtained results of the activity concentrations of radionuclides with the dominant elemental composition and particle diameter, as well as the possible origin of air pollution.

AB  - The estimation of the radioactivity levels of materials utilized in construction sectors is crucial in the assessment of possible radiological hazards to human health. In the paper, the results of gamma spectroscopy study of 211 zircon, 425 sand, 781 lime, 348 perlite, 2692 cement, 232 calplex, 968 gypsum, 2741 granite and 21 coal fly ash samples gathered from different countries and imported in Serbia in period 2006-2016 were presented. In order to assess the radiological impact from the investigated samples, the activity concentration index I-RP112 for all samples was ascertained. This research yields insight into the radioactive content in a variety of building materials of different origin. The obtained results were discussed on the basis of relevant national and international legislation and guidance and compared with the corresponding results in the literature.

AB  - Zbog svoje visoke efikasnosti, NaI detektor oblika jame je odličan izbor za detekciju
niskih aktivnosti, pogotovo kod uzoraka uzetih iz prirode. No velik prostorni ugao kojeg
aktivna zapremina detektora oblika jame zauzima, neminovno dovodi do efekta
koincidentnog sumiranja. Na osnovu većeg broja gama spektara rastvora radijuma je
ispitan uticaj koincidentnog sumiranja na efikasnost detekcije u cilju razvijanja brzog i
pouzdanog metoda za merenje radijuma u pijaćim vodama. Razvijen je i nov “grafički”
metod za određivanje praga detekcije koji je ispitan na primeru voluminoznih uzoraka
male aktivnosti.
AB  - Due to its high efficiency, a well-type NaI detector is an excellent choice for low-level
activity detection, especially for samples taken from nature. But, the large space angle
that active volume of the detector includes, indispicably leads to coincident summing.
Based on large number of gamma spectra of radium solutions, the effect of coincident
summing was examined for purposes of developing a fast and reliable method for
drinking water radium measurements. Also, a new ”graphical”method for determining
MDA, based on measurements of small activity voluminous samples was developed.

koincidentnog sumiranja. Na osnovu većeg broja gama spektara rastvora radijuma je
ispitan uticaj koincidentnog sumiranja na efikasnost detekcije u cilju razvijanja brzog i
pouzdanog metoda za merenje radijuma u pijaćim vodama. Razvijen je i nov “grafički”
metod za određivanje praga detekcije koji je ispitan na primeru voluminoznih uzoraka
male aktivnosti., Due to its high efficiency, a well-type NaI detector is an excellent choice for low-level
activity detection, especially for samples taken from nature. But, the large space angle
that active volume of the detector includes, indispicably leads to coincident summing.
Based on large number of gamma spectra of radium solutions, the effect of coincident
summing was examined for purposes of developing a fast and reliable method for
drinking water radium measurements. Also, a new ”graphical”method for determining
MDA, based on measurements of small activity voluminous samples was developed.",

of accelerators. Despite the fact that in both types of accelerators have the same dose
profile of beam, the saturation activity of the activated samples of natural In are very
different, indicating significant differences in the form of spectrum.

AB  - Активност природних радионуклида је мерена у 217 узорака маховина Hypnum
cupressiforme које су сакупљене крајем лета 2015. године на комплетној територији Републике Србије са циљем да се установи просторна дистрибуција
радионуклида. Мерења су вршена NaI детектором облика јаме. Посебна пажња
је посвећена 7Be који се већ деценијама користи као природни обележивач у
изучавању транспортних процеса у атмосфери. Добијено је да је дистрибуција
атмосферске депозиције 7Be неуниформна и да се најмања и највећа измерена
вредност разликују девет пута. Просторна дистрибуција 7Be не показује корелацију са рељефом терена за разлику од 137Cs кога има више у планинским и шумовитим пределима. Присутност радионуклида из урановог и торијумовог
низа у доброј мери зависи од структуре и састава тла на локацијама са којих су
узимани узорци.
AB  - The activities of natural radionuclide were measured in 217 moss samples that were
collected at the entire territory of Serbia. Measurements were taken by well-type NaI
detector in order to establish the spatial distribution of radionuclides. Special attention
was paid to 7Be. It is obtained that the distribution of atmospheric deposition of 7Be is
non-uniform; the minimum and maximum measured value differs nine times. No
coincidence of the spatial distribution of 7Be with the relief was observed. It was
noticed that higher values of 137Cs were detected in mountain and wooded areas. The
presence of radionuclides from the Uranium and Thorium chains in the large extent
depends on the structure of the soil at the sampling site.

deposition, and they can be used for monitoring of airborne radionuclide depositions.
Ninetyfive samples of Hypnum Cupressiforme were collected in Northern Greece during
the end of summer 2016. After the preparation, mosses were measured in a
low-background HPGe detector with relative efficiency 32%. The activity
concentrations of 7
Be ranged from 69 to 1280 Bq kg-1, and the concentrations of 137Cs
ranged from 0 to 425 Bq kg-1. The concentrations of 210Pb were between 147 and 1920
Bq kg-1 and for 40K were between 120 and 750 Bq kg-1. Differences have been observed
in the activity concentrations between the mosses collected from ground surface, rocks,
branches and near roots. Finally, no correlation between the concentrations of 7
Be and
210Pb has been found.
AB  - Mahovine svoje nutrijente direktno dobijaju iz padavina i suvom depozicijom i mogu se
koristiti za monitoring depozicije radionuklida iz vazduha. Devedesetpet uzoraka
mahovina (Hypnum Cupressiforme) je sakupljeno u regionu Severne Grčke tokom kraja
leta 2016. godine. Posle pripreme, mahovine su merene na niskofonskom HPGe detektoru relativne efikasnosti 32%. Izmerene koncentracije aktivnosti 7

AB  - U radu je prikazano poređenje različitih metoda i tehnika za određivanje 226Ra u vodi:
tečna scinitlaciona spektrometrija (LSC), alfa spektrometrija i gama spektrometrija.
Tehnikom LSC određen je sadržaj 226Ra u vodi korišćenjem sledećih metoda:
standardne test metode ASTM D 7283-06 i EPA metode 913.0. Gama spektrometrijom
je sadržaj 226Ra određen direktnom metodom u Marineli geometriji. Alfa spektrometrom
RAD 7 određena je koncentracija aktivnosti 226Ra u vodi korišćenjem protokola
Wat250. Izvršeno je poređene rezultata dobijenih ovim metodama i dat je pregled
prednosti i nedostataka svake metode i tehnike. Dobijene eksperimentalne vrednosti za
sve metode su date sa odgovarajućim korekcijom.
AB  - The measurement of 226Ra in natural water samples is important because it is one of the
most hazardous elements with respect to internal radiation exposure. Therefore, in the
monitoring studies it is desirable to have a precise and accurate technique for the
determination of the activity concentration of this radionuclide.
This paper presents a comparison of different techniques and methods for 226
Ra in
water samples spiked with different concentrations of 226Ra isotope: LSC (Liquid
Scintillation Counting), alpha and gamma spectrometry. An overview of the advantages
and disadvantages of each techniques are presented. 226Ra in water samples were
determined by gamma spectrometry using direct method (untreated water samples) and
by RAD7 solid state detector. For 226Ra determination by LSC two different methods
were tested: ASTM D 7283-06 Standard test method for alpha and beta activity in water

tečna scinitlaciona spektrometrija (LSC), alfa spektrometrija i gama spektrometrija.
Tehnikom LSC određen je sadržaj 226Ra u vodi korišćenjem sledećih metoda:
standardne test metode ASTM D 7283-06 i EPA metode 913.0. Gama spektrometrijom
je sadržaj 226Ra određen direktnom metodom u Marineli geometriji. Alfa spektrometrom
RAD 7 određena je koncentracija aktivnosti 226Ra u vodi korišćenjem protokola
Wat250. Izvršeno je poređene rezultata dobijenih ovim metodama i dat je pregled
prednosti i nedostataka svake metode i tehnike. Dobijene eksperimentalne vrednosti za
sve metode su date sa odgovarajućim korekcijom., The measurement of 226Ra in natural water samples is important because it is one of the
most hazardous elements with respect to internal radiation exposure. Therefore, in the
monitoring studies it is desirable to have a precise and accurate technique for the
determination of the activity concentration of this radionuclide.
This paper presents a comparison of different techniques and methods for 226
Ra in
water samples spiked with different concentrations of 226Ra isotope: LSC (Liquid
Scintillation Counting), alpha and gamma spectrometry. An overview of the advantages
and disadvantages of each techniques are presented. 226Ra in water samples were
determined by gamma spectrometry using direct method (untreated water samples) and
by RAD7 solid state detector. For 226Ra determination by LSC two different methods
were tested: ASTM D 7283-06 Standard test method for alpha and beta activity in water
by liquid scintillation and EPA Method 913.0 for radon determination in drinking
water.",
