AB  - The fragmentation of neutron-rich Sn isotopes obtained from the fission of (238)U projectiles at 950 MeV/u has been investigated at the FRagment Separator (FRS) at GSI. In order to study the feasibility of a two-step reaction scheme for the production of medium-mass neutron-rich nuclei, fragments with masses A approximate to 130 have been isotopically resolved in the first part of FRS and their fragmentation residues identified in the second part.

AB  - Experiments with radioactive nuclear beams have enabled us to investigate nuclear properties far from stability. Glauber model analysis of total interaction cross sections measurements provides a useful method to determine effective matter radii. In this work we have taken advantage of the relativistic heavy ion facility at GSI for producing and investigate total interaction cross sections of more than hundred medium-mass nuclei along long isotopic chains.

AB  - The production cross sections of neutron-rich fission residues produced in reactions induced by a U-238 beam impinging onto Pb and Be targets were investigated at the Fragment Separator (FRS) at GSI. These data allowed us to discuss the optimum energies in fission for producing the most neutron-rich residues.
