Evaluation of a new procedure for stability checks of well-type brachytherapy chambers

AB  - Well-type ionization chambers are routinely used for measurements in brachytherapy departments. Since there is no calibration service for brachytherapy ionization chambers available in Serbia, Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL) in Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences started establishing this service, using a reference well-type chamber Standard Imaging HDR-1000 plus with a PTW Unidos Webline electrometer. The outer wall of the chamber is made of 20 mm thick aluminum, which reduces the influence of the scattered radiation. For each source there is a unique source holder for placement in a reproducible geometry inside the well of the chamber. The ionization chamber stability has to be checked periodically to ensure reliable measurements. IAEA Technical Report Series (TRS) 1274 [IAEA TRS 1247, IAEA 2002] gives guidelines on standardized procedures at SSDLs and hospitals, including the procedure for stability checks of welltype chambers. According to this procedure, 137Cs or 60Co check sources are inserted in the chamber well, using spacers or holders to achieve reproducible geometry. Measurements during stability checks should remain within ±0.5%. In this research, a different procedure for stability checks was tested. A teletherapy 60Co irradiator was used for external irradiation of the well-type chamber. All measurements were corrected for air density (ambient temperature and pressure). Measurements were done in a minimum scatter environment, which was achieved by positioning the ionization chamber 1 m from the irradiator, with the field size of 20x20cm. Correction for 60Co half-life was applied to all measurements. First, the influence of the source holders was tested, and no significant differences were found (0.16% maximum difference when holder is placed in chamber, compared to no holder present). All the subsequent measurements were performed without source holders. During the second test, 4 stability checks were performed during a period of 4 days without moving the chamber or irradiator. The deviations were within the interval -0.39% – +0.25% compared to the first stability check measurement. During the third test, 7 stability checks were performed during a period of 7 days, and complete setup was repeated during each check (chamber positioning, bench positioning, collimator setup etc.). The purpose of the second test was to check the repeatability of positioning, because the positioning can artificially increase deviations between subsequent measurements, making the chamber stability appear worse. All the results were within the interval -0.17% – +0.27%. The results show that this procedure can be adequate for the stability checks of well-type chambers, because the repeatability due to the changes in measurement procedures setup is better than the 0.5%. Differences between second and third test could be caused by insufficient thermalization of the chamber during the second test.

AB  - U ovom radu je prikazano korišćenje scintilacionog detektora za etaloniranje polja izvora gama zračenja male aktivnosti, za primenu u etaloniranju fotonskih dozimetara. Sledivost je obezbeđena tako što je scintilacioni detektor etaloniran koristeći jonizacionu komoru i izvor veće aktivnosti za nekoliko vrednosti jačine kerme, što je omogućilo da se odredi i njegova linearnost. Identifikovani su najvažniji doprinosi mernoj nesigurnosti etaloniranja polja, a kombinovana merna nesigurnost iznosi 4,6% (k = 2). AB  - U svrhu osiguranja kvaliteta sprovođenja radioterapijskih procedura, radioterapijski centri širom sveta učestvuju u programu poštanske dozimetrije koju organizuje i sprovodi Međunarodna agencija za atomsku energiju putem globalne mreže Sekundarnih Standardnih Dozimetrijskih Laboratorija. Kontrola kvaliteta podrazumeva ozračivanje pasivnih detektora zračenja (prethodno termoluminiscentnih, danas radiofotoluminiscentnih dozimetara) na poznatu vrednost apsorbovane doze u vodi u visokoenergetskim poljima x-zračenja linearnih akceleratora koji su upotrebi u redovnoj teleterapijskoj praksi. Laboratorija za zaštitu od zračenja i zaštitu životne sredine je u periodu od 2019. do 2022. godine distribuirala pasivne dozimetre radioterapijskim centrima u Srbiji.
AB  - In order to perform quality assurance of radiotherapy procedures, radiotherapy centers participate in a worldwide programme of postal dosimetry external audits, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency via the global Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory network. Quality control is performed by delivering a known absorbed dose to water value to the passive ionizing radiation detectors (previously thermoluminiscent, recently radiophotoluminiscent dosimeters) in the high-energy x-radiation fields of linear accelerators which are in regular hospital use in teletherapy. Laboratory for radiation and environmental protection has distributed the passive dosimeters to the radiotherapy centers in Serbia in the period from 2019. to 2022.

AB  - Procena merne nesigurnosti rezultata merenja ambijentalnog ekvivalenta doze gama zračenja značajna je za utvrđivanje adekvatnosti izabranog monitora zračenja i metode merenja. Neadekvatnim izborom monitora zračenja ili njegovim neoptimalnim korišćenjem, mogu se dostići velike vrednosti merne nesigurnosti. Uvek kad je moguće, treba izabrati odgovarajući monitor zračenja i mernu metodu. U ovom radu je procenjena merna nesigurnost za više tipova monitora zračenja sa veoma različitim mernim karakteristikama. Osetljivost detektora i odabrano vreme merenja u značajnoj meri utiču na mernu nesigurnost, što je na primerima i prikazano u ovom radu. Optimalnim izborom opreme i metode merenja mogu se dobiti značajno pouzdaniji rezultati merenja.
AB  - Assessment of the measurement uncertainty of the ambient dose equivalent is important for determining the adequacy of the selected survey meter and measurement method. Inadequate selection of the survey meter or its suboptimal use can result in high values of measurement uncertainty. Whenever possible, an appropriate survey meter and measurement method should be selected. In this paper, the measurement uncertainty was estimated for several types of survey meters with very different measurement characteristics. The sensitivity of the detector and the selected measurement time significantly affect the measurement uncertainty, which is shown in this paper with examples. Optimal selection of equipment and measurement method can provide significantly more reliable measurement results.

AB  - Stupanjem na snagu Pravilnika o aktivnim dozimetrima fotonskog zračenja koji se koriste u zaštiti od jonizujućeg zračenja ("Sl. glasnik RS", br. 144/2022) propisani su zahtevi za aktivne dozimetre koji se koriste u funkciji zaštite zdravlja ljudi i životne sredine. Kako bi se poboljšale merne karakteristike sonde S1, uređaja DMRZ-M15, razvijen je kompenzacioni filter u obliku dodatnog poklopca sonde, oznake P2, koji se koristi tokom merenja ambijentalnog ekvivalenta doze. Zadržana je mogućnost postavljanja tankog zaštitnog poklopca oznake P1 ili potpunog uklanjanja poklopca kada se sonda ne koristi za merenje jačine doze, već samo kao detektor zračenja za otkrivanje izvora i kontaminacije. Na ovaj način je očuvana dobra osetljivost detekcije β i γ zračenja uz poboljšanje mernih karakteristika kada se uređaj koristi kao dozimetar. U radu su prikazani rezultati ispitivanja.
AB  - With the entry into force of the Rulebook on active photon radiation dosimeters used in protection against ionizing radiation ("Sl. glasnik RS", br. 144/2022), requirements for active dosimeters used in the function of protecting human health and the environment are defined. In order to improve the measurement characteristics of probe S1 used with the DMRZ-M15 survey meter, a compensation filter was developed in the form of an additional probe window cover, marked P2, which is used during the measurement of the ambient dose equivalent. The option of fitting a thin protective probe window cover marked P1 or removing the cover completely is retained when the probe is not used for dose rate measurement, but only as a radiation detector for source and contamination detection. In this way, the good sensitivity of detection of β and γ radiation is preserved while improving the measurement characteristics when the device is used as a dosimeter. The paper presents the test results.

AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati merenja nezavisne privatne merne stanice u Požarevcu za kontinualno merenje ambijentalnog ekvivalenta doze za 2021. i 2022. godinu. Stanica je opremljena i automatskom meteorološkom stanicom, što je od značaja prilikom tumačenja rezultata merenja zbog uticaja padavina, kada dolazi do spiranja radona i njegovih potomaka iz atmosfere na tlo što se manifestuje kao kratkotrajno povećanje jačine doze. Posebno je prikazano više zanimljivih slučajeva povećanja jačine doze izazvanih prirodnim i veštačkim izvorima. Ovakva privatna merna stanica, koja se adekvatno održava i ima neophodnu infrastrukturu, može biti korisna kao dodatni indikator radiološke situacije, pored zvaničnog državnog sistema pravovremene najave radiološkog akcidenta, u slučajevima nuklearnih akcidenata i drugih situacija gde dolazi do nekontrolisane emisije radioaktivnih efluenata u životnu sredinu.
AB  - The paper presents the measurement results of an independent private measuring station in Požarevac for continuous measurement of the ambient dose equivalent for 2021 and 2022. The station is also equipped with an automatic meteorological station, which is important when interpreting the measurement results due to the impact of precipitation when radon and its daughters are washed from the atmosphere to the ground, which manifests itself as a short-term increase in dose rate. In particular, several interesting cases of increased dose rates caused by natural and artificial sources are presented. Such a private measuring station, which is adequately maintained and has the necessary infrastructure, can be useful as an additional indicator of the radiological situation, in addition to the official state system of timely announcement of a radiological accident, in cases of nuclear accidents and other situations where there is an uncontrolled emission of radioactive effluents into the environment.

AB  - This paper presents a comparison performed between two calibration laboratories in several radiation qualities, using dosimeters of varying quality as transfer instruments. The goal of this work was to investigate the viability of using field-class dosimeters for official comparisons and to determine if the calibration factors for field-class dosimeters are comparable between calibration laboratories within the stated measurement uncertainties. The results of the comparison were acceptable for high-quality electronic personal dosimeters in all radiation qualities, and such dosimeters could be used as transfer instruments. On the other hand, comparison results for low-quality dosimeters were often not acceptable, either due to pronounced energy dependence, low stability, or both. Such instruments are unreliable even under well-defined laboratory conditions, and their use in routine measurements may cause doubt in official data or influence public opinion. This problem is often hidden because many dosimeters are calibrated or verified only in 137Cs beams, where the deviations are the smallest. The largest differences are found for low-energy X-ray radiation qualities, where many dosimeters have significant overresponse.

AB  - U radu je razvijen i prikazan digitalni merač kapaciteta akumulatora, sa integrisanim punjačem. Takođe, razvijen je i upravljačko / kontrolni softver za mikrokontroler ovog uređaja i PC računar, kako bi se podaci dobijeni merenjem, dalje mogli obrađivati i upoređivati, korišćenjem nekog od programa za tabelarna izračunavanja. Zbog široke primene elektro-hemijskih izvora, bilo primarnih, bilo akumulatorskih, izuzetno je važno poznavati i meriti njihov kapacitet. Merenje kapaciteta primarnih ćelija pomaže pri odabiru najpovoljnijeg rešenja (u skladu sa odnosom cene i kapaciteta) za napajanje prenosivih uređaja. Merenjem kapaciteta akumulatora, može se utvrditi njihovo stanje i da li su spremni za dalju eksploataciju, a i proveriti kapacitet novih akumulatora, na primer, radi upoređivanja sa podacima u tehničkoj dokumentaciji proizvođača.
AB  - In this paper, a digital battery capacity meter with an integrated battery charger is developed and built. Also, the software used to control and monitor the microcontroller of the device from the PC has been developed, so that the data obtained from measurement can be processed and compared further using one of the available spreadsheet software packages. Due to the widespread use of electrochemical energy sources, whether primary ones or of the battery type, it is extremely important to know and measure their actual capacity. Primary cell capacity measurement helps in selecting the most appropriate solution (with respect to the cost/ capacity ratio) for powering portable or mobile devices. By measuring the capacity of the used battery, its condition and capability of further exploitation can be determined. Measuring capacity can provide verification of the data in the manufacturer's specifications, for example, in order to compare measurements and confirm statements in technical documentation.

AB  - Active electronic dosimeters are usually calibrated in Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratories in reference photon fields, with the uncertainty which is typically around 5 % (k=2). Reference fields are established in accordance with relevant international standards – usually ISO 4037 for photon radiation. Some differences in spectra between different laboratories are unavoidable, but the effect on reference dose rates is well studied and within the above mentioned measurement uncertainty, and this is confirmed by existing interlaboratory comparisons. However, many field class dosimeters have poor energy dependence, especially in the energy range below 100 keV, which could cause large differences in calibration factors determined in different calibration laboratories under nominally the same conditions. This may also have implications for dosimeter testing or verification. In this paper, preliminary results obtained in two different calibration laboratories are presented.
AB  - Aktivni elektronski dozimetri se najčešće etaloniraju u Sekundarnim standardnim dozimetrijskim laboratorijama u referentnim poljima fotonskog zračenja, sa mernom nesigurnošću od oko 5 % (k=2). Referentna polja se uspostavljaju u skladu sa međunarodnim standardima, obično ISO 4037 za fotonsko zračenje. Male razlike u spektrima u različitim laboratorijama su neizbežne, ali je efekat na referentne vrednosti dobro proučen i ostaje u okviru mernih nesigurnosti, što je potvrđeno postojećim međulaboratorijskim poređenjima. Međutim, mnogi korisnički dozimetri imaju lošu energetsku zavisnost, pogotovo u opsegu energija ispod 100 keV, što može da uzrokuje velike razlike u kalibracionim faktorima određenim u različitim laboratorijama u nominalno istim uslovima. To može da ima posledice i na ispitivanje ili overavanje dozimetara. U ovom radu su prikazani prvi rezultati dobijeni u dve različite laboratorije za etaloniranje.

Male razlike u spektrima u različitim laboratorijama su neizbežne, ali je efekat na referentne vrednosti dobro proučen i ostaje u okviru mernih nesigurnosti, što je potvrđeno postojećim međulaboratorijskim poređenjima. Međutim, mnogi korisnički dozimetri imaju lošu energetsku zavisnost, pogotovo u opsegu energija ispod 100 keV, što može da uzrokuje velike razlike u kalibracionim faktorima određenim u različitim laboratorijama u nominalno istim uslovima. To može da ima posledice i na ispitivanje ili overavanje dozimetara. U ovom radu su prikazani prvi rezultati dobijeni u dve različite laboratorije za etaloniranje.",

AB  - For the purpose of environmental monitoring, as well as measurement of contamination, the DMRZ-M15 survey meter was developed. This paper presents the results of testing prototypes of new probes S2 and S3. The following were examined: linearity, energy response, angular response and operation at ambient dose equivalent rate outside the measuring range. The tests were performed in accordance with international standards ISO 4037 and IEC 60846. The probes are energy compensated and are used to measure the ambient dose equivalent Ḣ*(10). The measuring range of probe S2 is from 0.1 μSv/h to 10 mSv/h, and of probe S3 is from 100 μSv/h to 10 Sv/h.

AB  - Non-governmental networks for environmental monitoring employ a wide range of radiation protection instruments from different manufacturers, which provide the public with often unreliable dosimetric data. These Measuring Instruments in Non-governmental Networks (MINN) are mostly based on Geiger-Muller tube gas detectors, which represent low-cost easily operated instruments. An extensive testing of these devices was performed in order to validate the data acquired with MINN within the 16ENV04 Preparedness EMPIR project. In total, 16 different dosemter types were selected, with a sample size of four dosemeters per dosemeter type. Performance testing included the energy dependence and the linearity tests of the dosemeter response. Additionally, during the Researcher Mobility Grant associated with the 16ENV04 project, two Geiger-Muller based dosemeter types, with a sample size of two dosemeters per type were included in the testing. These instruments were subjected to the angular dependence testing in both horizontal and vertical planes, besides the energy dependence and linearity tests in the reference Cs-137 field at Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB). For all the dosemeter types, inherent background, response to secondary cosmic radiation and the response to small changes of dose rate were determined at the metrological facilities of PTB. The sensitivity of the measuring instruments used in non-governmental networks to small variations of the ambient dose equivalent rate was examined by exposing the dosemeters to low dose rate Cs-137, Co-60 and Ra-226 radiation sources, in order to estimate the effect of environmental radioactive contamination with artificially produced radionuclides. For the comparison purposes, besides the measuring instruments used in non-governmental networks, a previously characterized CdZnTe-based spectrodosemeter was irradiated with the aforementioned radiation fields. The measured values were compared with a reference Reuter-Stokes ionisation chamber used for low-dose rate level measurements.

Influence of air gap and chamber positioning on radiotherapy chamber calibrations

AB  - Determination of dose in radiotherapy requires highly accurate dose measurements. Such measurements can only be performed by trained and competent staff, with calibrated equipment and QA/QC procedures in place. Chambers that are used for clinical measurements are usually calibrated in Secondary Standards Dosimetry laboratories in terms of dose to water. Calibrations are performed in water phantoms, usually in Co-60 beams at the depth of 5 cm. Chamber positioning is critical, because deviation from reference position of 1 mm along the beam axis introduces additional standard uncertainty of 0.5%. Deviation from reference position in other two directions is less important – standard beam size for radiotherapy calibrations is 10 cm x 10 cm, and beam non-uniformity within several millimeters of the beam center is usually insignificant. Chamber positioning can be achieved by using special chamber sleeves, made of PMMA or other water equivalent materials. This allows precise and easy positioning, but only in case that the sleeve is specifically made for the phantom type and chamber type. Other option is using screws and clamps, but human errors are more probable in this case. There is also a high risk for chamber to be tilted along one of the axes, especially for waterproof chambers with rigid plastic-coated cables, which are often curved from storage inside the boxes. A waterproof IBA CC13 chamber was calibrated in terms of dose to water in Co-60 beam. Even though appropriate chamber sleeve was available, the chamber could not fit due to thicker chamber stem. Chamber was calibrated placed directly in water, by using clamps, and this value was considered as the reference value, because it is obtained according to standard protocols. Chamber was also calibrated in two sleeves designed for larger chambers – first with air gap between chamber and sleeve wall, and second in sleeves filled with water. There was measurable difference between reference position and chamber center in the plane normal to the beam axis – 3 mm and 7 mm for two sleeves. For both sleeves, calibration coefficient increased when the sleeve was filled with water. The increase was 0.7% for larger sleeve and 0.4% for smaller. Maximum difference between reference value and calibration coefficient obtained when using sleeves was 0.5%. The differences are statistically significant when sleeves are dry, but when sleeves are filled with water, differences are smaller than statistical fluctuations. The effect of inappropriate sleeve can be taken into account by increasing the measurement uncertainty. In this case, the uncertainty was estimated at 0.5% with rectangular probability distribution and k=1.73. The combined expanded uncertainty of calibration coefficient was increased from 1.2 % to 1.3 %, which is still within the uncertainty goals. This approach can be used for other calibrations, but uncertainty should be estimated in different laboratories and for different chamber types.

AB  - Broj civilnih mreža koje pružaju kvazi-trenutne podatke o jačini doze je poslednjih godina u porastu. Ovi podaci su javno dostupni preko internet platfomi sa slobodnim pristupom. Istraživanja na temu civilnih mreža su retka, a merenja čiji su rezultati u njima predstavljeni su uglavnom izvršena široko dostupnim jednostavnim ručnim dozimetrima. Bez detaljnog testiranja ovih uređaja u metrološkim laboratorijama, postoji velika verovatnoša javljanja značajnih razlika između zvaničnih podataka i podataka iz civilnih mreža, što može imati značajne posledice. U okviru projekta 16ENV04 Preparedness je sprovedeno sistematskoispitivanje civilnih mreža. Tako je identifikovano 16 tipova uređaja koji se često koriste. Učesnici projekta su nabavili po 4 dozimetra od svakog tipa, čije je ispitivanje trenutno u toku. Procedura koriššena za ispitivanje je ukratko opisana u ovom radui prikazani su preliminarni rezultati za 2 tipa dozimetara.

AB  - Etaloniranje aktivnih ambijentalnih dozimetara izvodi se pri poznatim jačinama ambijentalnog doznog ekvivalenta pri čemu se vrši korekcija na vrednost prirodnog pozadinskog zračenja (fona). Izmerenu vrednost ambijentalnog doznog ekvivalenta zračenja u ţivotnoj sredini uvećava vrednost inherentnog fona detektora. Cilj ovog rada je ispitivanje aktivnih ambijentalnih dozimetara na niskom nivou fona unutar čelične zaštite brojača gama-aktivnosti celog tela i odreĎivanje inherentne vrednosti pozadinskog zračenja za svaki dozimetar. Rezultati ispitivanja pokazuju da inherentno pokazivanje dozimetra moţe imati značajan uticaj na izmerene vrednosti ambijentalnog doznog ekvivalenta pozadinskog zračenja.

AB  - Growing concern for radiological and nuclear safety and growing use of radiation protection instruments by both professionals and lay persons increase the need for low cost and reliable instrumentation. The aim of this work was to develop a radiation protection instrument that will be both affordable to the widest radiation protection community, including the citizen networks and provide metrologically sound data. The instrument was based on a Geiger-Muller tube, which was tested before and after the energy compensation by lead foils. Instrument energy, angular and dose rate dependence was determined for different tube compensations and the optimum compensation allowing full compliance with relevant standards was identified. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

AB  - Calibration of active ambient dosimeters is performed by using known values of ambient dose rate and with instrument background value subtraction. Measured value of ambient dose rate is increased by intrinsic background of the instrument. The goal of this paper is to assay response of active ambient dosimeters atlow background levels inside the shielding of a whole body counter installation and to assess the intrinsic background of the dosimeters. Test results show that intrinsic background of the instrument can substantially increase measured value of ambient dose rate in the environment.

AB  - Cilj ovog rada je da se ispita uniformnost i veličina referentnog polja generisanog pomoću generatora X-zračenja. U tu svrhu je koriššena jonizaciona komora male zapremine tako što su mapirane jačine doze. Na osnovu merenja, određen je korekcioni faktor za neuniformnost polja zračenja. Rezultati prikazani u ovom radu se odnose na polje kolimisano pomoću aperture prečnika 4,2 cm i generisano pomoću generatora X-zračenja konstantnog napona i struje. Ispitivanje je izvršeno u kvalitetu zračenja koji se koristi u dijagnostičkoj radiologiji, ali je ova procedura takođe primenjiva i na kvalitete koji se koriste za etaloniranje uređaja za zaštitu od zračenja definisane u novoj verziji ISO 4037 iz 2019. godine.
AB  - The aim of this paper is to study the uniformity and the size of a reference radiation field produced by an x-ray generator. This work uses a technique to map dose distribution and measure dose rates with a small-volume spherical ionization chamber in order to determine the correction factor for non uniformity of the radiation field. Results shown in this paper are profile measurementsperformed in radiation beam collimated by a 4.2 cm diameter aperture, generated by calibration x-ray equipment of constant voltage and current. Thestudy was conducted in a diagnostic radiology radiation quality, but this procedure is also applicable to the new revised version of ISO 4037 standard from 2019 which specifies protection level reference radiation qualities.

AB  - Korišćenjem merača DMRZ-M15 u svakodnevnom radu, dobijene su nove ideje za dalje unapređenje softvera i hardvera merača. U ovom radu su prikazana realizovana unapređenja. Hardversko unapređenje je mogućnost biranja dva zadata radna napona detektora, automatski pri odabiru sonde ili ručno u opštem slučaju kada se koristi nestandardna sonda. Softverska unapređenja daju veću funkcionalnost uređaju. Pored standardneopcije  konstantnog  vremena  merenja,  dodata  je  i  opcija  konstantne statističke greške merenja. Režim pokretnog usrednjavanja je razvijen za potrebe traženja kontaminacije i dozimetriju sa bržim odzivom merača. Usavršeno je i praćenje parametara rada meračai detekcija grešaka. Modifikacijom unapređene verzije DMRZ-M15 napravljen je prototip stacionarnog alarmnog digitalnog merača radioaktivnog zračenja DMRZ-M15A.
AB  - Everyday use of DMRZ-M15 survey meter inspired new ideas for further software and hardware improvements of the meter. Made improvements are described in this paper. Main hardware improvement is the possibility of selecting two separate detector working voltages, automatically when selecting a probe or manually in the general case when a non-standard probe is used. Software improvements give greater functionality to the device. In addition to the standard settingof constant measurement time, themeasurement with the constant statistical error is added. Moving average setting was developed for the purpose of searching for a contamination and dosimetry with a faster response time of the meter. The monitoring of themeter operational parameters and detection of errors was improved. Prototype of thestationary alarm digital meter  DMRZ-M15A was developed by modifyingthe improved versionof DMRZ-M15survey meter.

AB  - U radu je predstavljena unapređena verzija softvera uređaja GMC7 za kontinualno merenje jačine doze gama zračenja u životnoj sredini. Izmenjen je izgled glavnog prozora programa. Dodat je grafički prikaz rezultata  merenja  sa  automatskim skaliranjem grafika. Pored prikaza izmerenih vrednosti, na grafiku se prikazuje i usrednjena vrednost prethodnih deset merenja. Uz ručni režim merenja, sada postoji i automatski režim, koji u zavisnosti od jačine doze, podešava vreme merenja. Kalibracija uređaja se sada vrši korišćenjem samo dva kalibraciona faktora. Nova opcija zadavanja vrednosti praga alarma, omogućava da se uređaj koristi i kao alarmni monitor zračenja. Usavršeno je i praćenje parametara rada mernog sistema i detekcija grešaka.
AB  - This paper presents an improved version of the GMC7 instrument software for continuous measurement of the intensity of gamma radiation in the environment. The layout of the main program window has been changed. A graphic representation of the results of the measurement with automatic scaling of graphs is added. In addition to displaying the measured values, the graph shows the averaged value of the previous ten measurements. With manual measurement mode, there is now an automatic mode, which, depending on the dose rate level, automatically adjusts the measurement time. The calibration of the device is now performed using two calibration factors. The existence of the alarm threshold option allows the device to be used as an alarm radiation monitor. Monitoring of the operational parameters of the measuring system and detection of errors has been improved.

AB  - Značajan broj merača jonizujućeg zračenja u upotrebi nema mogućnost povezivanja na računar. U ovom radu je predstavljen interfejs koji omogućava povezivanje tih uređaja na računar ukoliko imaju izlaz za slušalice ili signalni impulsni izlaz. Interfejs se povezuje na računar putem univerzalne serijske magistrale i šalje izmerene vrednosti broja impulsa. Program na računaru prikazuje izmerene vrednosti u imp/s, a takođe ukoliko je poznat kalibracioni faktor, izmerene vrednosti se prikazuju i u radiološkim jedinicama –Gy ili Sv. Podaci se prikazuju i grafički, a postoji i mogućnost automatskog memorisanja. Program za računar je modifikacija unapređenog programa za uređaj GMC7. Dodata je i funcija slanja podataka na veb-server, kao i prikaz izmerenih vrednosti na veb-strani. Uspešno je testirano više različitih merača kojima je proširena funkcionalnost ovim interfejsom.
AB  - Substantial number of dosimeters in use does not have PC connection capability. Interface presented in this paper allows them to be connected to a PC in case they have earphone or pulse output connector. Interface is connected to a PC via USB cable and it sends measured pulse count. PC program is used to display measured results in counts per second and in case of known meter sensitivity (calibration factor), results can be displayed in radiological units –Gy or Sv, as well. Measured data is also shown in form of a chart and there is an auto record option. PC program is a modified version of the GMC7 program. Capability of data sending to the web server is added, and a web page is made for a data display. Interface was successfully tested with several different dosimeters, broadening their functionality.

AB  - —Survey meters represent common radiation protection instruments used for ambient monitoring. They estimate the effective dose of occupationally exposed personnel, by measuring the ambient dose equivalent. A performance testing of a Geiger-Müller tube-based survey meter was realized in this paper. The energy and the dose rate dependence were determined for different thicknesses of lead tube wrappings, in order to achieve the optimal energy compensation. The energy response for higher-energy photons slightly improved by applying these filters, while it significantly worsened for low-energy X-rays. The angular dependence was tested in terms of angular response and its symmetry for different radiation qualities.

The energy and the dose rate dependence were determined for different thicknesses of lead tube wrappings, in order to achieve the optimal energy compensation. The energy response for higher-energy photons slightly improved by applying these filters, while it significantly worsened for low-energy X-rays. The angular dependence was tested in terms of angular response and its symmetry for different radiation qualities.",
