AB - In terms of energy efficiency and the quality of the indoor and outdoor environment, heritage buildings are facing sustainability challenges. This study assessed the feasibility of using renewable energy sources based on air-to-water heat pumps with regard to preserving the historic values of the buildings and their ability to coexist with current energy efficiency and decarbonization requirements, and to prevent their neglect and degradation. A new approach is the use of Building Information Modelling to accurately determine energy demand and select a heating system based on renewable energy sources in such an unusual case as a heritage building. The analysis covers a selection of feasible scenario of the modernization of the over 300 years old building. A particular focus of the study is to compare the use different heat pumps systems. One is a reversible gas absorption air-to-water heat pump and the other is an electricity-powered compressor air-to-water heat pump. The building is currently supplied with a fixed-temperature boiler up to 550 kW with an open combustion chamber fed with coal. It was proven that the proposed retrofit scenario reduces final energy demand by 72.9%, while improving thermal comfort, cutting annual emissions by 121.1 Mg CO2 and 1.0 Mg PM10.

AB - Substantial knowledge is available on the association of the indoor school environment and its effect among schoolchildren. In the same context, the SINPHONIE (School indoor pollution and health: Observatory network in Europe) conducted a study to collect data and determine the distribution of several indoor air pollutants (IAPs), physical and thermal parameters and their association with eye, skin, upper-, lower respiratory and systemic disorder symptoms during the previous three months. Finally, data from 115 schools in 54 European cities from 23 countries were collected and included 5175 schoolchildren using a harmonized and standardized protocol. The association between exposures and the health outcomes were examined using logistic regression models on the environmental stressors assessed in classroom while adjusting for several confounding factors; a VOC (volatile organic compound) score defined as the sum of the number of pollutants to which the children were highly exposed (concentration > median of the distribution) in classroom was also introduced to evaluate the mul tiexposu re - outcome association. Schoolchildren while adjusting for several confounding factors. Schoolchildren exposed to above or equal median concentration of PM2.5, benzene, limonene, ozone and radon were at significantly higher odds of suffering from upper, lower airways, eye and systemic disorders. Increased odds were also observed for any symptom (sick school syndrome) among schoolchildren exposed to concentrations of limonene and ozone above median values. Furthermore, the risks for upper and lower airways and systemic disorders significantly increased with the VOCs score. Results also showed that increased ventilation rate was significantly associated with decreased odds of suffering from eye and skin disorders whereas similar association was observed between temperature and upper airways symptoms. The present study provides evidence that exposure to IAPs in schools is associated with various health problems in children. Further investigations are needed to confirm our findings.

AB - Estimating the wind potential for a particular micro location (siting) involves detailed analysis of the possibility of annual electricity production at that location. Based on the assumption of installed capacity, area and number of hours constant load, it is possible to obtain annual theoretical production of electricity according to expression . The wind atlas for target location contains data onto 5 reference roughness lengths (0.000 m , 0.030 m , 0.100 m , 0.400 m , 1.500 m ) and 5 reference heights (10 m , 25 m , 50 m , 100 m , 200 m ) above ground level . This paer have measured data onto site at target location, and base of that there was modeled digital model of location and wind power model for elevation at 110m. There was estimation of 20 GE (2,78 MW) instaling capacity for target location.

AB - The need for high performance heat exchangers has led to the development of many types of surfaces that enhance the rate of heat transfer. One of the heat exchanger types are the matrix heat exchangers. Matrix heat exchangers consist of a series of perforated plates, separated by a series of spacers. The present study experimentally investigates the overall heat transfer characteristics of flow through a perforated plate with 2 mm in diameter, the hole length to diameter ratio of 1 and 25.6% porosity. Numerical simulations were performed to determine the overall heat transfer in the function of geometric parameters. Reynolds numbers based on the perforated plate pitch were set in the range from 50 to 500. The results of the average Nusselt number prediction were compared with the related experimental correlations. The experimental data agreed on qualitatively with the results obtained using a CFD. Using these data, a Nusselt criterial equation was obtained.

AB - Altering the surface cover of an area causes the change in the environment. By erecting buildings change in the flow of energy and matter through the urban ecosystems occurs creating multiple environmental problems. Built areas exert considerable influence over their local climate, amplifying problems such as heat waves, air pollution, and flooding. Greening the building envelope these problems can be partially mitigated. By combining nature and built areas in their designs, architects and urban planners can respond to these serious human health and welfare issues and restore the environmental quality of dense urban areas. Green living systems are not the only solution for new designs. Retrofitting existing buildings by altering the buildings' surficial properties can reduce buildings' energy consumption in case of older buildings with poor existing insulation. Implementation of green living systems in the building envelope, greening horizontal surfaces with intensive and extensive green roofs or using vegetation in vertical greening systems for façades, is a strategy that provides ecological, economic and social benefits. This review paper presents collected evidence of effects and explores the important role that the green living systems can play in the dense urban areas. Benefits such as heat island amelioration, reduction of buildings energy consumption, air quality and indoor and outdoor comfort conditions improvement, stormwater management and improved water run-off quality, will be mainly considered. © 2018 Serbian Society of Heat Transfer Engineers.

AB - The paper presents an experimental analysis of the relationship between local thermal comfort and productivity loss in classrooms. The experimental investigation was performed in a real university classroom during the winter semester in Belgrade. Measurements were taken for four scenarios, with different indoor comfort conditions. Variations were made by setting the central heating system on/off, adding an additional heat source to provoke higher indoor temperatures, and measuring the radiant asymmetry impact. Innovative questionnaires were developed especially for the research, in order to investigate students' subjective feelings about local thermal comfort and indoor environmental quality. Local PMV and PPD indices were calculated using data measured in situ. The results were compared to existing models recommended in literature and European and ASHRAE standards. Student productivity was evaluated using novel tests, designed to fit the purposes of the research. Surveys were conducted for 19 days under different thermal conditions, during lectures in a real classroom, using a sample of 240 productivity test results in total. Using the measured data, new correlations between the PMV, CO2, personal factor and productivity loss were developed. The research findings imply that local thermal comfort is an important factor that can impact productivity, but the impact of the personal factor is of tremendous importance, together with CO2 concentration in the classroom. © 2018 Serbian Society of Heat Transfer Engineers.

abstract = "The paper presents an experimental analysis of the relationship between local thermal comfort and productivity loss in classrooms. © 2018 Serbian Society of Heat Transfer Engineers.",

AB - The purpose of thermal comfort is to speck the combinations of indoor space environment and personal factors that will produce thermal environment conditions acceptable to 80% or more of the occupants within a space. Naturally ventilated indoors has a very complex air movement, which depends on numerous variables such as: outdoor interaction, intensity of infiltration, the number of openings, the thermal inertia of walls, occupant behaviors, etc. The most important mechanism for naturally ventilated indoors is the intensity of infiltration and thermal buoyancy mechanism. In this study the objective was to determine indicators of thermal comfort for children, by the CFD model based on experimental measurements with modification on turbulent and radiant heat transfer mathematical model. The case study was selected on school children of 8 and 9 years in France Presern primary school in Belgrade. The purpose was to evaluate the relationships between the indoor environment and the subjective responses. Also there was analysis of infiltration and stack effect based on meteorological data on site. The main parameters that were investigated are: operative temperature, radiant temperature, concentration of CO2, and air velocity. The new correction of turbulence and radiative heat transfer models has been validated by comparison with experimental data using additional statistical indicators. It was found that both turbulence model correct and the new radiative model of nontransparent media have a significant influence on CFD data set accuracy.

AB - The need for compact heat exchangers has led to the development of many types of surfaces that enhance the rate of heat transfer, among them the perforated plate heat exchangers, also known as matrix heat exchangers. The perforated plate heat exchangers consist of a series of perforated plates that are separated by a series of spacers. The present study investigates the heat transfer characteristics of the package of perforated plates. Perforated plates were 2 mm thick, with holes with 2 mm in diameter and porosity of 25.6%. The package of one, two, and three perforated plates was set in the channel of the experimental chamber at which entrance was a thrust fan with the ability to control the flow rate. The fluid flow rates, the temperatures of the fluids at the inlet and outlet of the chamber and the temperature of the air between the plates, were measured at the pre-defined locations in the package and the experimental chamber. Based on the measurements, heat transfer coefficients for the individual plates, as well as for the packages of perforated plates were determined. In further research, an iterative analytical procedure for investigation of the heat transfer process and the overall heat transfer coefficient for the package of perforated plates were developed. Based on these analytical and experimental results, conclusions were drawn about the heat transfer in a package of perforated plates.

AB - This study investigated seasonal variation of PAHs and their partition between gas and particulate-bounded phases in indoor and outdoor air in 4 schools In Serbia located at different locations. The sampling campaigns were conducted during one workweek at each school successively. Campaigns were conducted in schools during heating and non-heating seasons in December 2011 and June 2012. Seasonal variations of gas and particle-bounded PAHs concentrations were observed with higher levels during heating season. The highest total PAH values were associated with the gas phase in both sampling periods. The total PAHs concentration at indoor and at the outdoor sites, during heating season, ranged from 88.45 to 447.72 ng/m(3) and 201.69 to 1017.15 ng/m(3), respectively. During non-heating season, the total PAHs concentration ranged from 36.91 to 271.57 ng/m(3) in Indoor environment and 27.00 to 132.32 ng/m(3) in outdoor environment. Most of the I/O ratios were less than 1, which indicated that the indoor PAHs were mostly from outdoor sources. The use of diagnostic ratio showed that traffic emission and coal combustion are the major sources of PAHs. Only the diagnostic ratios for the school located near the industrial area showed significant deviation compared to other schools.

AB - Paper presents comparative analysis of residential indoor air pollutant concentration change over future specified time horizon, implementing building physical and thermal retrofit measures, thus creating pollution mitigation scenarios for existing Belgrade and Nis housing stock followed by greenhouse gas emission reduction scenarios up to 2050. Regarding specified mitigation scenarios, the set of typical housing unit models has been generated which define existing housing stock of Belgrade and Nis. Extensive monitoring of physical and thermal parameters as well as detailed socio-technical survey of selected households was performed and used as an initial modeling input. Relationship between environment pollution and building performances was investigated, with respect to indoor-outdoor sources of pollution, thermal and physical properties of the stock samples and occupants behavior. As a final output, indoor pollutant concentrations for each of the modelled cases was obtained and validated against the available data. This housing modelling framework has been created in order to develop an assessment of present and future exposure and health impact quantity regarding single/multiple scenario interventions introduced to the housing stock. This paper provides each strategy guidelines for taking measures towards achieving the healthier indoor environments.

AB - A lack of empirical data for residential indoor temperature has important implications for policy-makers in terms of energy performance objectives and the use of energy demand models for the building stock. This study investigates winter indoor temperatures, relative humidity and vapour pressure excess in 2009-2010 across various types and ages of buildings using half-hourly monitoring of 96 dwellings representative of residential buildings in Belgrade, including those with district heating (DH) with no direct occupant control in which heating is charged on a floor area basis. The average daily living room temperature of 22.8 degrees C (95%CI: 21.9-22.7) in DH dwellings was 2.3 degrees C higher than those with other heating types, including individual central heating (ICH) and non-central heating (non-CH), daily bedroom temperature of 22.3 degrees C (95%CI: 21.9-22.7) was 3.0 degrees C higher. Evening living room and night bedroom temperatures in ICH dwellings were 22% and 37% of the time respectively below 18 degrees C, and 10% and 27% of the time respectively in non-CH dwellings. The high degree of overheating in DH dwellings indicates the considerable potential to reduce energy consumption, if user controls and heating bills reflected household consumption were introduced. AB - In this paper, a PV/Wind integrated hybrid power energy system is analyzed using the dynamical simulation method. The market for the distributed power generation based on renewable energy is increasing, particularly for the standalone mini-grid applications. The main design components of PV/Wind hybrid system are the PV panels and the wind turbine. The case study is realized using the meteorological data for a Typical Metrological Year (TMY) for the city of Belgrade, in Serbia. The dynamical analysis is based on the transient system simulation program TRNSYS 16. The purpose of the study is to design a realistic energy system that maximizes the use of renewable energy and minimizes the use of fossil fuels. The reduction in the CO2 emissions is also analyzed in the paper. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

All rights reserved.",

AB - Rapid industry development as well as increase of traffic volume across the world have resulted in air quality becoming one of the most important factors of everyday life. Air quality monitoring is the necessary factor for proper decision making regarding air pollution. An integral part of such investigations is the measurement of wind characteristics, as the wind is the most influential factor in turbulent pollution diffusion into the atmosphere. The most of the air pollution originates from combustion processes, so it is important to make quantitative, as well as qualitative analysis, as the sources of pollution can be very distant. In this paper, specific methodology for continuous wind, temperature and air quality data acquisition is presented. Comparison of the measured results is given, as well as the detailed presentation of the characteristics of the acquisition software used.

AB - A jet of cold air is denser then ambient air but it adheres to the ceiling of the room over the given distance when it is blown horizontally close to it. Such behaviour of fluid jets is well-known as Coanda effect and it is widely used in practice like in the case of ventilation and air-conditioning of rooms. This phenomenon is not sufficiently known both in terms of mechanism and quantitative effects. The complexity is arising in the case of non-adiabatic ceiling that is common practice in real building structures, since the cold air jet, attachment distance is strongly influenced by heat flux thought the ceiling. The aim of this paper is to propose an algorithm of numerical simulation of fluid flow and heat transfer in the room and ceiling simultaneously, known as conjugate heat transfer problem. Using proposed model, uncertainty of heat transfer coefficient determination is avoided integrating the same general transport equation for fluid flow and heat transfer over the whole computational domain including both air movements in the room and ceiling solids.

AB - One of the basic analyses which have to be done during the phase of wind farm layout design is the grid performance evaluation of active and reactive losses of electrical energy. Also, the interconnection of wind farm to the distribution network is concerned; therefore it was very important to analyze influence of the wind farm to the voltage profile, as well as increasing peak short circuit currents, considering their influence to the equipment stresses. These influences of 16 MW wind farm Veliko Brdo to the existing power system are analyzed. The basic goal of this paper is to present evaluated results of interconnections influences of wind farm to the power system. Energy losses, voltage profile and peak short circuit currents have been investigated. Wind generators and power system feeding, as well as active and reactive energy losses have been analyzed separately. The simulation model that reflects real disposition of wind farm, interconnection network and part of power system is defined. The model enables dynamic analysis to be done, which has been used to analyze peak short circuit currents. Simulations have been done by ATP-EMTP (Alternative Transients Program) software tool.

AB - The main objective of this paper is to evaluate simulation of thermal performance of a residential 4 floors high building placed in the suburb of Belgrade (ground and 3 upper floors) with its total surface area of 1410 m(2). Its supplied with liquid petroleum gas storage lank as a fuel reservoir since there is automatic gas boiler in each apartment. Measurements have been carried out in first floor apartment (68 m(2) heating area) in heating season period Measured parameters are: inside and outside air temperature and U-value of apartment envelope. Weather data is obtained by using METEONORM, the software package for climatic data calculation based on last 10 years measurements. TRNSYS 16 has been used as the simulation tool. The behavior of the building in terms of heating loads for climate on a daily and monthly basis in heating season is investigated The calculations show possibility for saving energy by optimization inside temperature during different gas boiler working regimes.

AB - The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) was one of three mechanisms established by the Kyoto Protocol in 1997 to meet the Climate Convention objective of stabilizing greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. This paper presents the technical and economical feasibility of a potential wind farm site located in Kostolac, Republic of Serbia. The objective of Wind Farm Project in Kostolac is to generate renewable energy using wind power resources and to sell the generated output to the Republic of Serbia Power Grid on the basis of a power purchase agreement. Activity of this project is establishing a good evaluation for developing first wind farm on the territory of Republic Serbia. The project will contribute to sustainable development mainly by: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, compared to a business-as-usual scenario, reducing other pollutants from the power generation industry in Republic of Serbia, compared to a business-as-usual approach, creating local employment opportunities during the proposed project construction and operation period, and reducing poverty, which is very important to the provincial designated poor county of east of Republic Serbia.
