AB - Structural, conductive and dielectric properties of hybrid Polypyrrole (PPy)-TiO2 nanocomposite-coated polyamide fabric (PA-PPy/TiO2) synthesized by in-situ oxidative polymerization of pyrrole on the surface of polyamide in the presence of colloidal TiO2 NPs (d ~ 4.5 nm) have been studied. Raman spectra confirmed salt form of PPy in both neat PPy and PPy/TiO2-coated PA fabric and indicated its complete coverage. SEM/EDX analysis confirmed presence of TiO2 NPs and changes in granular structure of PPy deposited on the surface of PA fiber depending on the amount of TiO2 NPs. The PA-PPy/TiO2 nanocomposite sample with lowest content of TiO2 NPs (6.79 At.% Ti) showed highest conductivity (~10−6 S/cm) and dissipation factor (tan δ) in the entire frequency range. The lowest amount of TiO2 NPs in the PA-PPy/TiO2 nanocomposite induced two to four orders of magnitude higher tan δ value, compared to neat PPy covered PA fabric, depending on the frequency range. Frequency dependence of real (ϵ′) and imaginary part (ϵ″) of the complex permittivity for neat PA and PPy/TiO2-coated PA fabrics follow the trend of changes in dissipation factor for the same TiO2 NPs concentrations. The presence of TiO2 NPs could be exploited for tuning the conductive and dielectric properties of a conductive layer.

AB - Hexagonal ZnIn2S4 is synthesized by simple and low-cost hydrothermal route. TEM images revealed formation of nanosheets. The estimated band-gap energy of synthesized sample is in the visible spectral region and has a value of about 2.25 eV. Photocatalytic properties of synthesized sample are probed in photocatalytic degradation of three selected dyes different in nature and structure, Rhodamine B (RhB), Methylene blue (MB) and Methyl orange (MO), under the illumination with simulated Solar light. Obtained results revealed that photocatalytic degradation of RhB and MO is mainly result of synergic effect of photogenerated holes and oxygen, while primary effect in ZnIn2S4/MB system is bleaching of the dye, but no photodegradation was observed. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

AB - This research paper focuses on doped TiO2 nanocrystals of different shape, size and structures, in addition to nanocomposites consisting of TiO2 nanocrystals and conductive polymers (Polyaniline (PANI)). The primary objective of this research paper is to ensure understanding of the influence of size, shape, structure and doping level on optical and magnetic properties of TiO2 nanoparticles, as well as the interaction between nanoparticles and PANI due to the creation of desired photocatalytic properties of nanocomposites. The doping of TiO2 nanocrystals with rare earth ions opens up the possibility of controlling their optical properties. The Sm3+ doped TiO2 faceted nanocrystals exhibited red photoluminescence, associated with 4 G5/2-6 HJ (J=5/2, 7/2 and 9/2) f–f transitions of Sm3+ in the 4f5 configuration, after band-to-band excitation, confirming the accomplishment of energy transfers. The Ni2+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals enabled the synthesis of optically transparent nanostructured films that showed room-temperature ferromagnetism with almost closed loop (HC ~ 150-200 Oe) and saturation magnetization in the range of 10-3-5x10-2 μB/Ni depending on dopant concentration. Ni2+ ions that substitute core Ti atoms were found to participate in the light excitation processes, too. The improvement of photocatalytic efficiency of TiO2 nanocrystals by surface modification with carbonized form of PANI was tested in degradation processes of Rhodamine B and Methylene blue. The carbonized PANI/TiO2 nanocomposites showed significantly higher photocatalytic efficacy compared to the bare TiO2 and the non-carbonized PANI/TiO2 nanocomposites. Their photocatalytic activity is influenced by their surface and crystalline structures, absorption coefficient in the visible part of the spectrum, high mobility of charge carriers and finally by the molecular structures of the organic dyes used.

AB - Hydrothermal synthesis of Mn2+ doped titanate nanotubes (TNTs), which exhibited room temperature ferromagnetism (RTFM), is reported. Dispersions of 1 and 5 at.% Mn2+ doped anatase TiO2 nanocrystals were used as precursors. Size and shape of Mn2+ doped TNTs and precursor nanocrystals were studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The relatively uniform size distribution of transverse dimension of nanotubes of about 10 nm was observed while their lengths varied up to few hundred nanometers. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis and Raman spectroscopy of resultant powder confirmed the hydrogen dititanate (H2Ti2O5 x H2O) crystal phase of Mn2+ doped TNTs with the presence of small amount of sodium titanates. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments were performed to probe the local atomic and electronic structure of Mn in the nanotubes. Room temperature ferromagnetic ordering with saturation magnetic moment (Ms) in the range of 0.6–1.5 μB per Mn atom was observed. © 2019 Elsevier Masson SAS

AB - In this study, the nanocomposites based on semiconductor lead sulfide (PbS) nanoparticles and poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) were investigated. The gamma irradiation induced in situ incorporation of PbS nanoparticles in crosslinked polymer network i.e. PVA hydrogel was performed. PVA hydrogel was previously obtained also under the influence of gamma irradiation. UV Vis absorption and X-ray diffraction measurements were employed to investigate optical and structural properties of PbS nano particles, respectively, and obtained results indicates the presence of nanoparticles with approximately 6 nm in diameter and face centered cubic rock-salt crystal structure. The porous morphology was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy. Swelling data revealed that investigated hydrogels (PVA and PbS-PVA nanocomposite) shows non-Fickian diffusion, indicating that both diffusion and polymer relaxation processes controlled the fluid transport. The values of diffusion coefficients have an order of magnitude 10(-9) cm(2)/s (typical values for water diffusion in polymers) and the best fit with the experimental results showed the Etters approximation. Comparing the thermal properties of PbS-PVA xerogel nanocomposite with PVA xerogel it was observed that incorporation of PbS nanoparticles in crosslinked PVA matrix just slightly enhanced the thermal stability of nanocomposite. AB - Co2+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals were synthetized by a hydrothermal treatment procedure applied to precursor dispersion of titania nanotubes and Co2+ ions. Mixture of polygonal and prolate spheroid-like nanocrystals was obtained. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that resulted nanocrystals retain anatase crystal phase for both dopant concentrations (1.69 and 2.5 at%), but the crystal lattice parameters were affected. Reflection spectra revealed altered optical properties compared to bare TiO2. Room temperature ferromagnetic ordering with saturation magnetic moment in the range of 0.001-0.002 mu (B)/Co was observed for both measured films made of Co2+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals.

The morphologies of nanotubular titania precursors and resulted Cu2+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals were characterized by TEM. Structural and optical properties were studied by XRPD analysis and UV-vis spectroscopy in reflectance mode, respectively. Their magnetic properties were investigated using SQUID magnetometer. Tetragonal anatase crystalline structure was confirmed in all synthesized samples. Polygonal (d similar to 15 nm) and spheroid like (length, up to 90 nm) Cu2+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals in samples synthesized at different pHs were observed by TEM. Ferromagnetic ordering with almost closed loop (H-c similar to 200 Oe) was detected in all Cu2+ doped TiO2 nanoparticle films. The saturation magnetization values varied depending on the Cu2+ concentration, nanoparticles shape, size and consequently different number of oxygen vacancies. This study revealed possibility to control magnetic ordering by changing the shape/aspect ratio of Cu2+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

AB - Hydrothermal synthetic route for synthesis of Ni2+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals showing room temperature ferromagnetism, using dispersion of titania nanotubes in the presence of Ni2+ ions at different pHs as precursors, is reported. Morphologies of tubular precursors and Ni2+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals were characterized by transmission electron microscopy. Titania nanotubes have outer diameter of about 10 nm while the length varies widely even reaching few hundred nanometers. Ni2+ doped TiO2 nanoparticles synthesized at pH 3 have polygonal shape and dimension of about 20 nm. Transmission electron microscopy analysis revealed presence of mixed shapes (polygonal and rod like) in the sample of Ni2+ doped TiO2 nanoparticles synthesized at pH 5. X-ray diffraction analysis of resultant powder and selected area electron diffraction pattern confirmed the anatase crystal phase of Ni2+ doped TiO2 nanoparticles independently of dopant concentrations (0.09, 0.25, 0.86, 1.48 and 1.80 at%), followed by slight changes of their microstructural parameters. Reflection spectra of Ni2+ doped TiO2 nanoparticles revealed their altered optical properties in comparison to undoped TiO2 nanoparticles. Room temperature ferromagnetic ordering with saturation magnetic moment in the range of 10(-3)-5 x 10(-2) mu B per Ni atom was observed for all measured films made of Ni2+ doped TiO2 nanoparticles. AB - Samples of AgInS2 and CuInS2 nanoparticles were synthesized by hot-injection method at 270 degrees C using 1-dodecanethiol (DT) and elemental sulphur (S) as sulphide precursors, and oleylamine as reaction medium and surfactant. Composition, crystal structure, and particle size of obtained materials were tracked by XRD and TEM/HRTEM measurements. It was shown that, due to its dual role as sulphur source and surfactant, DT drastically slows formation of desired material. Samples obtained with DT even after 4 h of reaction have traces of intermediary compound (beta-In2S3), whereas in samples synthesized with elemental S these traces are less pronounced. The growth mechanism and influence of each reaction step are discussed in detail.

AB - We report on a new approach to the synthesis of Eu3+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals and prolate nanospheroids. They were synthesized by shape transformation of hydrothermally treated titania nanotubes at different pH and in the presence of Eu3+ ions. The use of nanotubes as a precursor to the synthesis of Eu3+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals and prolate nanospheroids opens the possibility of overcoming the problems related to molecular precursors. The shapes and sizes of the nanotubes, Eu3+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals and prolate nanospheroids were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) technique. Crystal structures of the resultant powders were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The percentage ratio of Eu3+ to Ti4+ ions in doped nanocrystals was determined using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy. The optical characterization was done by using fluorescence and ultraviolet-visible reflection spectroscopies. An average size of faceted Eu3+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals was 13 nm. The lateral dimensions of Eu3+ doped TiO2 prolate nanospheroids varied from 14 to 20 nm, while the length varied from 40 to 80 nm, depending on precursor concentrations. The XRD patterns revealed the homogeneous anatase crystal phase of Eu3+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals and prolate nanospheroids independently of the amount of dopant. A postsynthetic treatment (filtration or dialysis) was applied on the dispersions of the doped nanoparticles in order to study the influence of the dopant position on photoluminescence (PL) spectra. In the red spectral region, room temperature PL signals associated with D-5(0) - GT F-7(J) (J = 1-4) transitions of Eu3+ were observed in all samples. The increased contribution of dopants from the interior region of dialyzed nanocrystals to photoluminescence was confirmed by the increase of R value. (c) 2012 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l. AB - The kinetics of thermal degradation of polystyrene/Fe(2)O(3) composites was studied by dynamic thermogravimetry. The samples were heated in nitrogen atmosphere, applying three different heating rates 5, 20, and 40 degrees C/min. We calculated kinetic parameters using modified KAS isoconversional method. Results showed that polystyrene in all composites has higher thermal degradation activation energies compared to pure polystyrene. Maximal activation energy of thermal degradation is achieved for PS/Fe(2)O(3) composite with about 10% of filler. Vyazovkin model-free method was used to predict thermal degradation parameters.

AB - Eu3+ doped TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized during extended hydrothermal
treatment of TiO2 nanotubes dispersion in the presence of Eu(NO3)3. Eu3+ ions
occupy two different sites of titania nanoparticles having different binding
energies: core octahedral sites and undercoordinated surface sites.
Photoluminescence spectra of Eu3+ doped TiO2 nanoparticles independently of
dopant concentration consist of three characteristic peaks located at λ=543, 596,
and 617 nm attributed to the intra-4f transitions of Eu3+ ion. Removal of excess of
Eu3+ ions from the surface and from the undercoordinated surface sites applying
post synthetic dialysis of the sample affects its photoluminescence spectrum. The
peak intensity at λ=617 nm (5D0→7F2 transition) decreases after dialysis. Such
“self-purification” process of nanoparticles is a consequence of fact that dopant
ions which substitute Ti atoms in the undercoordinated coordination environment
of reconstructed surfaces are weakly bound to the anatase lattice.

Obtained water dispersions of CdSe and CdSe/ZnS QDs were characterized by UV/VIS absorption and luminescence techniques. Luminescence measurements revealed that bare cores are very sensitive to surface capping, transfer into water diminished emission intensity. Core/shell, CdSe/ZnS, QDs are much more resistant to changes of the capping and solvent, and significant part of emission intensity was preserved in water.

AB - The thermal degradation kinetics of polystyrene/CdS composites were studied by thermogravimetry. The samples were heated in nitrogen, with three different heating rates: 5, 20 and 40 degrees C min(-1). We calculated kinetic parameters using KAS isoconversion method. The results showed that the maximum activation energy of thermal degradation is achieved for PS/CdS composite with about 10% of the CdS filler. Higher concentration of CdS in the composite (20%) induced acceleration of the thermal degradation, approaching the rate of degradation of the pure polystyrene matrix. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. AB - New approach for synthesis of Co2+ doped TiO2 nanoparticles showing room temperature ferromagnetic behavior, through shape transformation of hydrothermally treated scrolled titania nanotubes in the presence of Co2+ ions is described. The XRD and ICP measurements demonstrated successful incorporation of 0.46 at % Co2+ ions in preserved anatase crystal structure of TiO2 nanoparticles, without presence of Co-oxide Clustering, metallic Co, or Various Co-Ti oxide species. HRTEM measurements revealed that majority of the nanoparticles have polygonal shapes with average dimension of similar to 6-10 nm. Obtained Value of 3.06 eV for band gap energy of Co2+ doped TiO2 nanoparticles explained altered optical properties of TiO2 matrix and indicates narrowing of the electronic properties in respect to the undoped anatase TiO2 nanomaterials. The Co2+ doped TiO2 nanocrystals enabled synthesis of optically transparent film that shows room temperature ferromagnetic ordering with a saturation magnetic moment of 0 25 mu B per Co atom The proposed explanation for room temperature ferromagnetic behavior is based oil the presence of critical amount of oxygen vacancies that mediate interaction between Co2+ spins trapped in the lattice Structure of titania nanoparticles with undercoordinated surface defect sites.

AB - The nanocomposites consisting of lead sulfide (PbS) nanoparticles (NPs) with average diameter of 26 angstrom and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were synthesized using colloidal chemistry methods. The PbS/PVA nanocomposites were characterized using optical, structural, thermal and mechanical techniques. No difference between infrared spectra and no difference between glass transition temperatures after incorporation of the PbS NPs in the PVA matrix indicated weak interaction between nanofilter and polymer. Due to weak interaction between nanofilter and polymer a slight improvement of the mechanical Properties of the PbS/PVA nanocomposite was observed compared to the neat PVA. On the other hand, the presence of the PbS NPs in the PVA matrix induced the increase of the crystallization temperature and enthalpy of crystallization. Also, the thermal decomposition of the PVA shifted towards higher temperature for about 15 degrees C in the presence of the PbS NPs. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
