AB  - The variations in the threshold voltage shift in p-channel power VDMOSFET during the gamma ray irradiation was investigated in the dose range from 10 to 100 Gy. The investigations were performed without the gate bias and with 5 V gate bias. The devices with 5 V gate bias exhibit a linear dependence between the threshold voltage shift and the radiation dose. The densities of radiation-induced fixed and switching traps were determined from the sub-threshold I-V characteristics using the midgap technique. It was shown that the creation of fixed traps is dominant during the irradiation. The possible mechanisms responsible for the fixed and switching traps creation are also analyzed in this paper.

The impact of field size and radiation quality on KAP-meter and CT-chamber response

AB  - Kerma-area product and kerma-length product are important practical dosimetric quantities used in diagnostic radiology. These quantities are measured by special types of dosimeters which are calibrated in standard radiation qualities established in calibration laboratories. However, in clinical practice the dosimeters are used in different conditions, including the radiation quality and field size. In this paper, energy and field size dependence are studied for both types of dosimeters. One dosimeter of each type is tested. The KAP-meter has shown significant dependence on both radiation quality and field size, while the dependence of the CT-chamber is much less pronounced. Two different approaches can be used to correct for the difference between conditions during calibration and in clinical practice. When the clinical beam is well characterized and energy and field size dependence of the dosimeter are well known, the optimum solution is to apply the adequate correction factor to the measurements, keeping measurement uncertainty as low as possible. If this is not the case, the above limitations must be taken under consideration in the calculation of the expanded uncertainty budget.

opisuje radijaciono oštećenje. S obzirom da je neutronsko zračenje naročito efikasno u
izmeštanju atoma, ispitan je uticaj neutrona na sastavne elemente strukturalne zaštite
241Am-Be neutronskog izvora sastavljene od parafina, betona i olova. Proračun DPA je
obavljen na osnovu rezultata simulacija primenom MCNPX prorgamskog paketa.

produce energetic recoil atoms of the host materials or reaction products. Displacement
per atom (DPA) is used to quantify radiation damage. Since neutrons are particularly
efficient in displacing atoms, their influence on constituent elements of 241Am-Be
neutron source shielding made of paraffin, concrete and lead. DPA was calculated
based on simulations using MCNPX.

AB  - Za potrebe obuke lica za delovanje u slučaju hemijskih, bioloških, radioloških i
nuklearnih akcidenata (HBRN) uspostavljena je platforma u okviru Instituta za
nuklearne nauke Vinča (INNV). Na samoj platformi se između ostalih izvode praktična
uvežbavanja: lociranja radioaktivnog izvora, obezbeđivanja izvora i različitih scenarija
dekontaminacije. Jedna od nadležnosti Laboratorije za zaštitu od zračenja i zaštitu
životne sredine (Zaštita) je da primeni odgvarajuće mere radi kontrolisanog izlaganja
jonizujućem zračenju pojedinaca na platformi kao i radnika INNV. U ovom radu su
prikazani rezultati merenja ambijentalnog ekvivalenta doze, H*(10) pomoću termoluminiscentnih dozimetara (TLD) koji su postavljeni u cilju monitoringa okoline tokom
HBRN vežbe koja je izvedena u aprilu 2017. Merenja su vršena postavljanjem TLD na
22 lokacije na samoj platformi i van nje u trajanju od 14 dana. Izmerena srednja
vrednost H*(10) iznosi 34 µSv za posmatrani period što pokazuje da nije došlo do
značajnog povećanja ambijentalne ekvivalentne doze u odnosu na osnovni nivo
prirodnog zračenja.
AB  - For the purpose of professional responder training in the case of chemical, biological,
radiological and nuclear accidents (CBRN), a training platform was established within
the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences (INNV). On the platform, among other things,
practical exercises are carried out such as: locating radioactive sources, securing
sources and various decontamination scenarios. One of the responsibilities of the
Department of Radiation and Environmental Protection (Zastita) is to apply specific
measures for the controlled exposure to ionizing radiation of individuals on the
platform as well as of INNV workers. This paper presents the ambient dose equivalent
H*(10), measured using thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) that were set up to
monitor the environment during the CBRN exercise in April 2017. The measurements
were made by placing the TLD at 22 locations on the platform itself, and out of it for 14
days. The mean H*(10) is 33 µSv for the observed period, which shows that there was
no significant increase in the ambient dose relative to the background level.

AB  - Electronic personal dosimeters (EPDs) are increasingly being used alongside conventional thermoluminescent dosimeters to measure the dose of legal record in terms of personal dose equivalent. Therefore, it is of great importance to execute performance tests of these dosimeters in photon fields of various energies and at various angles of incidence. This testing is done in order to simulate the behavior of these dosimeters in realistic multidirectional polyenergetic ionizing radiation fields. Tests of accuracy, linearity, energy response, and angular response have been performed on 10 EPDs from multiple manufacturers. Various radiation qualities have been used in the energy range from 33 keV to 1.33 MeV and for angles of incidence 0 degrees to 80 degrees. This research proves that many of the EPDs tested performed according to the manufacturers specifications and the requirements of the international standards regarding personal dosimetry.

Tests of accuracy, linearity, energy response, and angular response have been performed on 10 EPDs from multiple manufacturers. Various radiation qualities have been used in the energy range from 33 keV to 1.33 MeV and for angles of incidence 0 degrees to 80 degrees. This research proves that many of the EPDs tested performed according to the manufacturers specifications and the requirements of the international standards regarding personal dosimetry.",

AB  - In this paper we give an overview of radiation effects in emergent, non-volatile memory technologies. Investigations into radiation hardness of resistive random access memory, ferroelectric random access memory, magneto-resistive random access memory, and phase change memory are presented in cases where these memory devices were subjected to different types of radiation. The obtained results proved high radiation tolerance of studied devices making them good candidates for application in radiation-intensive environments.

AB  - The measurement results of ambient dose equivalent rate in an aircraft, performed by a standard portable dosimeter, at a non-commercial flight Belgrade - Podgorica at altitudes up to 9000 meters, are shown. By numerical interpolation of the measurement results, a functional dependency of the ambient dose equivalent rate on the altitude of the airplane flight is determined, obtaining a good agreement with the reference values. For commercial airlines in the Balkan region, total ambient dose equivalent, regarding the aircraft crew occupationally exposed to radiation in the course of a flight, was calculated and the maximum permitted number of flight hours per year, was estimated.

AB  - In order to accurately assess the absorbed dose delivered to the patients during the
radiotherapy procedures, where Co-60 gamma radiation fields and high-energy X-ray
radiation fields are employed, many of the radiotherapy centers in Serbia participated
in the IAEA/WHO Postal Dose Quality Audit Program. Radio photoluminescent
dosimeters were irradiated in 15 different X-ray ionizing radiation fields of various
energies, and one gamma-ray radiation field (Co-60) in different radiotherapy centers.
The study was performed in the period from February to May 2016.

AB  - The purpose of this study is to investigate the radiation dose and technical image quality in mammography in Serbia after two years of implementation of the breast screening programme. A total of 186 mammography units, including Full-Field Digital Mammography (FFDM), Computed Radiography (CR) and Screen-Film Mammography (SFM) units were used in the patient dose and image quality assessment. Patient dose, in terms of Mean Glandular Dose (MGD), was assessed for the standard breast, while image quality was evaluated in terms of spatial resolution, threshold contrast visibility and Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) for CR and FFDM units. The mean MGD assessed was (1.8 +/- 0.94) mGy, (1.3 +/- 0.51) and (1.7 +/- 0.64) for CR, FFDM and SFM, respectively. Spatial resolution was better than 12 lp/mm only for 3/186 (1.6%) units. In 34/186 (1896) units, spatial resolution was less than 5 lp/mm. Threshold contrast visibility was better than 1.2 in 41/186 (22%). Mean CNR for CR and FFDM units was 5.2 2.2. Following the initial implementation at the beginning of the population-based breast cancer screening campaign, it is essential to establish an effective system of regular and periodic Quality Control (QC) tests and to ensure that high-quality mammograms with minimal possible radiation dose to population are included in the screening.

AB  - This work presents the results of an investigation undertaken to determine the level of natural radioactivity in the traditional building materials used for medieval indoor vaulted constructions in the territory of the central Balkan region. Indoor radiation exposure varies appreciably if it comes from the earth building materials, hence the presence of natural radioisotopes of Ra-226, Th-232, and K-40 in masonry vaulted constructions was analyzed using gamma ray spectrometry. In addition, the internal health hazard index, the absorbed dose rates and the effective annual doses were calculated. The results were then compared both with the reported data from the previous studies concerning the territory of the Balkan Peninsula, as well as with the worldwide values for the materials of historic buildings. The results obtained from the materials examined in this paper all showed the radioactivity levels below the maximum permitted values.

AB  - In this paper we analyze application of contemporary methods of insulation co-ordination and the enlargement law in designing a GM counting tube. It has been shown that by applying insulation co-ordination methods the counting tube can be optimally dimensioned. The application of the enlargement law was demonstrated in generalizing the results of test obtained by the GM tube to those obtained by the counting tube with m-times greater dimensions. The investigations were conducted both theoretically and by experiment. Using theoretical analysis, we derived the expressions that may be applied if a performance function of a random variable breakdown voltage is known. The experiments were conducted on a GM counter model under well controlled laboratory conditions.

AB  - The paper examines the effects of radiation on the electrical characteristics of monocrystalline silicon and germanium. Samples of monocrystalline silicon and germanium are irradiated under controlled laboratory conditions in the field of neutron, X- and gamma-radiation. Change of the samples specific resistance was measured dependent on the radiation dose with the type of radiation as a parameter. Next, the dependence of the samples resistance on temperature was recorded (in the impurities region and in intrinsic region) with the previously absorbed dose as a parameter. The results were statistically analyzed and explained on the basis of radiation effects in solids. The results are compared with those obtained by using Monte Carlo method. A good agreement was confirmed by the mentioned experimental investigation.

Assessment of Occupational Dose in Fluoroscopy Procedures When Individual Monitoring Is Not Utilized

AB  - Fluoroscopy procedures may lead to increased radiation exposure of radiologists and other staff members. The objective of the study is to assess whole body radiation doses and doses to the eye in fluoroscopy procedures, based on measurements that allow for estimates of occupational doses when personal dosimeters have not been used. Four geometrical configurations were considered: overcouch x-ray tube with and without table mounted lead rubber curtains in place, undercouch x-ray tube with horizontal x-ray beam and undercouch x-ray tube with vertical x-ray beam. The doses were estimated using distribution of the scattered radiation and typical workload, as well as the pattern of used of protective tools. Estimated effective dose was in the range from few to 60 mu Sv per procedure for radiologist, and from few to 20 mu Sv per procedure for radiographer, depending on the geometrical configuration and level of personal protection. Corresponding unprotected eye doses were estimated to be in the range 0.03 - 2.8 mSv per procedure for radiologist and 0.02-0.78 mSv for radiographer. The presented results allowed for realistic estimations of the occupational whole body dose and dose to the eyes from the workload of the staff members and from the level of use of radiation protection tools when personal dosimeters have not been regularly used.

AB  - This paper investigates the output characteristics of photovoltaic solar cells working in hostile working conditions. Examined cells, produced by different innovative procedures, are available in the market. The goal was to investigate stability of electric characteristics of solar cells, which are used today in photovoltaic solar modules for charging rechargeable batteries which, coupled with batteries, supply various electronic systems such as radio repeaters on mountains tops, airplanes, mobile communication stations and other remote facilities. Charging of rechargeable batteries requires up to 25 % higher voltage compared to nominal output voltage of the battery. This paper presents results of research of solar cells, which also apply to cases in which continuous power supply is required.

AB  - This paper presents results of radiation resistance of different types of commercially available single- and poly-crystalline silicon solar cells. Sample cells were subjected to gamma radiation from gamma radiation source Co-60. Characteristic parameters of solar cells were extracted from obtained I-V curves: open circuit voltage, short circuit current, maximum power point voltage and current, efficiency, fill factor, and series resistance. Obtained results show the level of parameters degradation with purpose of increasing solar cells applications in radiation environments.

AB  - Pulse height distribution (PHD) registered by a spectrometer is influenced by various physical phenomena such as photon interactions as well as disturbance produced by the electronic circuits inside the spectrometer. Therefore, spectrometry measurements of gamma and X-ray radiation inaccurately represent primary spectra. In order to overcome spectrum disruption, spectrum unfolding has to be applied. One of the common tools used in the unfolding process is Monte Carlo simulation of spectrometer response to monochromatic photons. The purpose of this work is to develop a new method for simulating CdTe semiconductor spectrometer response to monochromatic photons that can be further used for the spectrum unfolding procedure. The method is based upon post-processing of the particle track (PTRAC) output file generated by the MCNP5 program. In addition to the spectrometry output, this method provides information for each specific photon interaction inside the spectrometer active volume, which is required when taking into account spectrometer charge collection. The PTRAC generated detector response and the measured spectrum were in good agreement. The results obtained showed that this method can be used to generate precise response functions of gamma and X-ray spectrometers.

AB  - Intercomparisons are important activities performed to ensure that the services provided by calibration laboratories to end-users follow internationally accepted standards. Ionizing radiation dosimetry intercomparisons are usually of two types - postal thermoluminescent dosimeter intercomparisons and ionization chamber calibration intercomparisons. In this paper, both types of intercomparisons are analysed together with the results of seven years of participation in such intercomparisons. Several discrepancies were discovered as a result of intercomparisons analysis and the resolution of the discrepancies was discussed.

AB  - One of the most useful applications of MOSFET semiconductor components has been introduced to improve the gamma or electron radiation detection system. In many practical cases it is not easy to carry out experimental tests of semiconductor devices in radiation environment, so it is more convenient to perform the assessment of ionizing radiation interaction with semiconductor devices by using numerical methods based on Monte Carlo simulation techniques. A large number of previous studies have mainly focused on the study of MOSFET dosimeter response to gamma and X radiation fields. Therefore, this work will be focused on a new approach to the study radiation characteristics of the MOSFET dosimeter in fields of other types, such as field of high-energy electrons (4 MeV to 20 MeV). From the engineering point of view, it is important to consider the material that is used as a physical protection of the MOSFET dosimeter. So, it is important to investigate the energy dependence of MOSFET dosimeter to different shielding materials. For this purpose, special numerical experiments of electron transport within all layers of the elementary MOSFET structure will be performed. Shielding materials such as Kovar, Titanium Alloy with Aluminum and Niobium, Titanium Alloy with Zirconium and Niobium will be considered. The electron transport will be simulated with Monte Carlo method using the software package FOTELP-2K12. The distribution of deposited energy in all material zones of interest, as well as the absorbed dose in dosimeter sensitive zone of MOSFET structure will be determined by results obtained with numerical calculations. The physical shielding factor (PSF) for the MOSFET dosimeter, which can show the correlation between dosimeter energy dependence and shielding material in the field of electron beam radiation, will be determined within the paper. After comparing values of PSF for considered materials the recommendation for a lid material that serves as shielding for MOSFET dosimeter will be given.

Therefore, this work will be focused on a new approach to the study radiation characteristics of the MOSFET dosimeter in fields of other types, such as field of high-energy electrons (4 MeV to 20 MeV). From the engineering point of view, it is important to consider the material that is used as a physical protection of the MOSFET dosimeter. So, it is important to investigate the energy dependence of MOSFET dosimeter to different shielding materials. For this purpose, special numerical experiments of electron transport within all layers of the elementary MOSFET structure will be performed. Shielding materials such as Kovar, Titanium Alloy with Aluminum and Niobium, Titanium Alloy with Zirconium and Niobium will be considered. The electron transport will be simulated with Monte Carlo method using the software package FOTELP-2K12. The distribution of deposited energy in all material zones of interest, as well as the absorbed dose in dosimeter sensitive zone of MOSFET structure will be determined by results obtained with numerical calculations. The physical shielding factor (PSF) for the MOSFET dosimeter, which can show the correlation between dosimeter energy dependence and shielding material in the field of electron beam radiation, will be determined within the paper. After comparing values of PSF for considered materials the recommendation for a lid material that serves as shielding for MOSFET dosimeter will be given.",

The aim of this paper is to consider and analyze the constructive solutions of capacitive voltage divider for measuring ultrafast voltage occurrence. Three types of capacitive divider will be constructed for that purpose. The high-voltage capacitor of each divider will be gas capacitor (in order to avoid both electrostatic and electrodynamic influence on measurement accuracy). The variations between divider types will be made for low-voltage capacitor. The designed low-voltage capacitors will be: 1 - in the shape of 10 mica capacitors connected in a parallel with a discrete ending resistor of 50 Omega; 2 - in the form of gas trimmer capacitor with a discrete ending resistor of 50 Omega, and 3 - the continual mica capacitor with waveguide resistor of 50 Omega (L=0). Ultrafast pulse response will be measured with dividers constructed in such manner, and will be compared with the corresponding response obtained from the numerical simulations.

AB  - An increasing degree of both semiconductor components miniaturization and electromagnetic contamination of the environment brings into question the reliability of modern electronic devices. This is particularly emphasized in the functioning conditions of electronic devices related to: nuclear power facilities, medical devices based on nuclear particle and x-ray radiation and the impulse power device. At the same time, non-resistance of semiconductor components to the effects of particle and electromagnetic radiation represents the basic limitation of the expected development of nanoelectronic components. Since the most commonly used material for manufacturing semiconductor components is monocrystalline silicon, it is of great significance to be aware of the influence of nuclear particle and electromagnetic radiation on its relevant. Based on the well-known effects of nuclear (particle) interactions and electromagnetic radiation, the biggest influence on the electrical characteristics of monocrystalline silicon should be expected from neutron (n), x-ray (x) and gamma (gamma) radiation. The evaluation of such influence is often carried out (for economic and security reasons) by simulating the effect of radiation interaction with the material, applying the Monte Carlo method (numerical experiments). The aim of this paper is to evaluate the application of the Monte Carlo method for this class of problems. For this purpose, the effect of n, x and gamma radiation on the electrical characteristics of monocrystalline silicon will be determined, under the well-controlled laboratory conditions. The parameters of the experiment are energy and radiation dose. Electric characteristics of monocrystalline silicon are determined using the four-point method and the thermal method. The corresponding numerical experiments will be conducted simultaneously with these laboratory experiments. On the basis of already obtained statistical samples (laboratory and numerical experiments), the testing of both correlation and regression between them will be carried out. The results will provide an answer to the question concerning the feasibility of the Monte Carlo method for the described class of problems

Build-Up PMMA Plate Effect on Calibration of TLD Reader

AB  - The routine monitoring of the occupationally exposed individuals constitutes an integral part of radiation protection program implemented at the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences (INNV). The Individual monitoring service (IMS) at the INNV, accredited according to quality standard EN ISO/IEC 17025, is using Harshaw 6600 Plus automatic reader and thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD) from two manufacturers (Harshaw, RadPro international GmbH). Working procedures are implemented according to Technical Recommendations for Monitoring Individuals Occupationally Exposed to External Radiation, RP 160 (European Commission, 2009). Among general consideration, RP 160 is suggesting that routine calibration of dosimetry system should be performed taking into consideration secondary charged particle equilibrium. As TLD system in use at IMS INNV comprises of TLD reader and of TLD cards, this consideration should be applied in both cases: when the reader and the TLD cards are being calibrated. During reader calibration, secondary charged particle equilibrium can be ensured using build-up PMMA plate of certain thickness placed in front of dosimeters. In this paper, influence of the build-up plate on reader calibration is being analyzed. This influence is observed through changes in reader calibration factor (RCF). RCF values obtained during reader calibration procedure with and without 2 mm thick build-up plate are presented. Exposures of whole body TLDs placed on slab phantom were done with Cs-137 radiation source located at Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL) at INNV. TLDs from both manufacturers had 2 detectors for measuring the dose equivalent at the depths of 10 mm and 0.07 mm. TLD reader was calibrated to measure effective dose in terms of Hp(10) and local skin dose in terms of Hp(0.07). RCF values for detectors measuring Hp(10), from both manufacturers, when irradiated without the plate were around 5% higher than RCF values obtained when irradiations were done with the plate. Values of RCFs for detectors measuring Hp(0.07) were around 1% higher when the plate had not been used. As RCF value is inversely proportional to measured dose, reader calibration without build-up plate, in terms of Hp(10), would lead to underestimated dose values. The observed RCF deviation of Hp(0.07) detector is regarded as consequence of exposure conditions uncertainties. In conclusion, if a constant geometry and constant operational conditions of TLDs are achieved, the only part of the TLD system that is not stable for a long time period is the TLD reader. To avoid inaccurate results, RCF should be orderly checked and reader calibration should be done according to widely accepted standards, currently in effect.

AB  - This work presents initial data on radiation doses in adult computed tomography (CT) in Serbia. Data were collected in terms of CT dose index (CTDIvol) and dose length product (DLP) values for head, chest and abdomen examination. The range of CTDIvol values was found to be 53-98, 11-34 and 8.5-227 mGy whereas for DLP was 803-1066, 350-845 and 1066-3078 mGy cm(-1) for head, chest and abdomen examination, respectively. Except for abdomen on one CT unit, all estimated values were in line with the reported data. This work also presents simple method on how to reduce radiation doses when scanning head. Using axial (step-and-shot) instead of helical mode and decreasing tube current-time product leads to significant dose reduction. CTDIvol was decreased by 20 % whereas DLP was reduced for a factor 2.

The study was performed on survey meters that use different detectors as ionisation chamber, Geiger Mueller (GM) counter and scintillation detector. For each survey meter, energy dependence and angular response in X-and gamma-radiation fields was tested. The following commercially available survey meters were investigated: ionisation chambers Victoreen 451P, Babyline 31 and VA-J-15A, Geiger counter MRK-M87, 6150 AD6 and FAG FH 40F2 and scintillation counter 6150 ADB. As a source of gamma radiation, Cs-137 and Co-60 were used whereas X-ray radiation fields were generated using an X-ray unit. The radiation characteristics of the survey meters were mostly in compliance with references estimated by standard IEC 1017-2. However, some of them showed larger deviation at lower energies. GM counters exhibit strong energy dependence for low-energy photons.

Comparison of the Empirical Variances and Mean Values of Normally Distributed Populations of Nuclear Counts

AB  - This paper discusses the possibility of applying the F-test and double t-test in problems related to the identification of number of radioactive isotopes in a contaminated area by using only counters for radiation detection. The descriptions of the F-test and the double t-test are given along with the corresponding tabular values that enable their implementation. Finally, the experiment is presented via two radioactive samples. The results of the experiment were treated in the manner proposed in the paper and satisfactory results were obtained.
