AB - Iron(III) titanates are attracting rapidly growing interest as very promising candidates for applications in solar energy and optoelectronics because they contain earth-rich elements. Potentially, Fe2TiO5 is a thermoelectric material. We used a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer and Superconducting Quantum Interferometer Device Magnetometer to study the magnetic properties of the pseudobrookite material Fe2TiO5. The material was synthesized by the sol-gel method. The structural parameters of the synthesized samples were investigated by X-ray analysis. The diffractogram was refined with the help of Rietveld refinement on FullProf Suite. Temperature-dependent ZFC and FC magnetization was measured on SQUID for lower temperature down to 2 K and on VSM for higher temperatures up to 1000 K. A transition was observed at 815 K with a separation between the ZFC and FC curves. Parallelly the bifurcation in the isothermal hysteresis measurements indicates that the system exhibits dominant canted AFM (or weak FM) with a small amount of spin glass. The small value of the moment was also pointing towards the canted AFM ordering. The size and morphology of the particles was determined using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

AB - Ca1-xGdxMnO3 (x = 0.05–0.20) nanostructured perovskites were successfully synthesized by modified glycine nitrate procedure (MGNP). Temperature intervals of sintering and phase transition during heating were revealed during dilatometric measurements. In order to determine the band gap values of the tested samples, ellipsometric measurements were performed in the UV-VIS spectral range. Decrease of band gap values with increase of Gd dopant content was attributed to n-type doping and upward shifting of the Fermi level in the conduction band. The investigation of the crystal structure and phase content of nanocrystalline Ca1- xGdxMnO3 powders was continued using micro-Raman spectroscopy. The electrical conductivity of Gd3+ doped sintered samples CaMnO3 as a function of temperature was measured by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), in the temperature range of 400–700 °C. The corresponding activation energies of conductivity, measured in the investigated temperature range, were also discussed. The obtained research results showed that the highest hardness values of 7.58 GPa respectively, were achieved and that these nanostructured materials can be used as a high-density ceramic material for various industrial applications.

AB - Nanometric size Ca1-xGdxMnO3 (x = 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2) powder particles with perovskite-type structure were obtained by applying a modified glycine-nitrate procedure. [1, 2] All samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Infrared (IR) spectroscopy and EPR (electron paramagnetic resonance) measurements. In the perovskites with space group Pnma, octahedral tilting is most common and it is of great interest for geologists and materials science. It was experimentally observed how the amount of gadolinium dopants affects on the Mn-O bonds angles and distances, MnO6 octahedral tilting, the deformation due to the presence of Jahn-Teller distortion around the Mn3+ cation and relation between the structural and magnetic behavior. [3] The infrared reflection spectra of Ca1-xGdxMnO3 samples confirmed XRD results that Ca1-xGdxMnO3 nanopowders are of Pnma-1 structure and that the octahedral tilting is increased with Gd doping. The EPR spectra are in agreement with the expectation that EPR linewidth depend of Mn-O-Mn angle and that small octahedral tilting brought only a small change of the EPR linewidth.

AB - Oxidation processes during metal oxide heat treatment are important events that can be monitored by the means of well-known TGA/DTA and dimensional change diagrams. Powders Mn0.63Zn0.37Fe2O4 oxide was milled in different time duration and thermal analysis techniques afterwards during heating were observed. Cation that serves this purpose well for is Mn ion that passes through Mn2+ to Mn3+ state at 360 °C by oxidation and after that from Mn4+ to Mn3+ reduction process at 580 °C. Minimal data treatment of first derivative on shrinkage for obtaining shrinkage rate diagrams and as well first derivative on thermal gravimetric diagram for obtaining differential thermal gravimetric analysis diagram enable the oxidation and reduction processes monitoring.

AB - Nanocrystalline powders of Ca1-xGdxMnO3 (x=0.05, 0.1, 0.15, and 0.2) have been synthesized by the modified glycine nitrate procedure and pressed into pellets that served as green bodies for a systematic investigation on their structural and microstructural properties [1]. Dilatometric measurements were performed in order to confirm the optimal sintering temperature. Dilatometric curves, besides sintering, are recording superimposed phase transition and linear expansion. Using a dilatometric curve, three temperatures were determined at which the examined sample shows significant changes. At 1055 °C–1194 °C certain second order phase transition is evident, at 1365 °C–1409 °C intensive nitrogen oxide extrusion, and in duration of 86 min at 877 °C heating ramp thorough isothermal holding at 1410 °C until 158 min cooling schedule at 1331 °C sintering is performed. Vickers hardness values were obtained based on the change in the surface area of the diamond pyramid. The results indicate that the hardness of the Ca1-xGdxMnO3 system (x = 0.05; 0.1; 0.15; 0.2) is not conditioned by the amount of doped gadolinium.

AB - Nanosized CoMoO4 solid solution was successfully synthesized at room temperature using simple and fast Self Propagating Room Temperature procedure (SPRT). The structural, textural, morphological and surface characteristics of the nanosized CoMoO4 were examined in detail by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra, Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and nitrogen sorption method. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) reflected the presence of two different phases that are in the same space group. The α-CoMoO4 and the β-CoMoO4 modification crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/m, No.12, but the β-phase clearly distinct from the α-phase due to the tetrahedral coordination of the Mo6+ ions. Adsorption tests were studied over CoMoO4 nanopowders under different experimental conditions (material dosage, initial concentration of pollutant textile dye, etc). The obtained results showed acceptable sorption characteristics of the material.

The obtained results showed acceptable sorption characteristics of the material.",

AB - Experimental and theoretical methods have been used to investigate the octahedral tilting and related effects of Ca 1-x Gdx MnO3 (x = 0.05; 0.1; 0.15; 0.2) compound. Both methods have shown that orthorhombic-perovskite structure (space group Pnma) is the most stable form and according to Glazer's classification belongs to a-b+a- tilt system. Bond valence calculations (BVC) have shown ten additional perovskite-related modifications of the equilibrium Ca 1-x Gdx MnO3 structure, and their stability has been investigated as function of Gd doping. We have further studied the influence of gadolinium amount on Mn-О bond angles and distances, tilting of MnO6 octahedra around all three axes and deformation due to the presence of Jahn-Teller distortion around Mn3+ cation, and calculated the amount of Mn 3+ in the system. BVCapproach is a simple, fast and efficient way of calculating the amount of Mn 4+ and Mn 3+ in the doped perovskite compound, which, to the best of our knowledge, has not been done before. The infrared reflection spectra of Ca 1-x Gdx MnO3 samples confirmed XRD results that Ca 1-x Gdx MnO3 nanopowders are of Pnma-1 structure and that the tilting of octahedra are increased with Gddoping. The EPR (electron paramagnetic resonance) spectra are in accordance with the assumption that EPR linewidth is Mn-O-Mn angle dependent. The studied samples showed that small octahedra tilting in these samples brought only a small change of the EPR linewidth.

AB - Nanocrystallinemanganites Ca 1-x GdxMnO3 (x=0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2) were synthesized by a modified glycine-nitrate procedure. The subsequent studies were focused on the structural, microstructural and magnetic changes of the starting materials induced by calcination and sintering.Thermal treatments of the green bodies were carried out by conventional sintering method.Phase evolution, lattice parameters, chemical composition and magnetic properties were monitored by Differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD),Induction coupled Plasma Atomic Emission (ICPES), Scanning electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy SEM/EDS and magnetic measurements on Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (Squid).DTA revealed phase transition at ≈918ºC.Chemical analysis has been done by ICPES and EDSwhich confirmed that nominal composition has been attained for all samples.XRD data were analysed by Rietveld refinement which showed that orthorhombic perovskite structure, S.G. Pnma(62), persisted with the change of Gd content, while unit cell parameters depended on the composition. Magnetic measurements show that electron doping by Gd 3+ ions substantially changes CaMnO3 antiferromagnetic behavior. After introduction of Gd3+ ions, significant ferromagnetic component appears due to an emergence of double exchange interaction between Mn3+ -Mn4+ ions. This resulted in appearance of a low temperature plateau in field cooled magnetization diagram as well as in hysteresis loop with the relatively high coercivity up to 2300 Oe.

AB - Sintering is often accompanied with phase transition. Phase transition kinetic is thushard to deconvolute due to the superposition of the sintering and phase transition dimensionalchange phenomena. Metastabile perovskite phase ZnTiO3 reforms to stabile spinel Zn2TiO4 at950°C with high kinetic rate. Dimensional change during heating of ZnTiO3 nano powdercompacts up to 1050°C was monitored using dilatometric thermo mechanical analyzer TMAmodel SETSYS Evolution. Shrinkage of simultaneous sintering and phase transition wererecorded. The obtained non-isothermally sintered specimens were then second run treatedwith same schedule. Sintering phenomenon of the ZnTiO3 nanopowder compact was alsorecorded up to 900°C with isothermal holding of 25 minutes. Here phase transition wasavoided with lower temperature and isothermal holding. Second run heating, of isothermallyobtained specimens at 900°C, was recorded with non-isothermal heating schedule to 1050°C.This has led to the dilatometric curve record of the ZnTiO3 phase transition in polycrystallinebulk specimen, now recorded without sintering. In such a manner when kinetic is complex, the separation of phenomena such as sintering, linear expansion and phase transition areleading to the knowledge of their mutual interconnected relations. Also application ofmathematical operations on dilatometric data leads to the established procedure for thesintering and phase transition data treatment.

AB - In this study we have combined two research methods: structure prediction of ZnTiO3 using computational SPuDS software, and the characterization of binary oxides obtained from ZnO TiO2 system. Pure nanosized ZnTiO3 (99.5%), was compacted in cylindrical shape specimens by uniaxial double sided compaction and then sintered in air atmosphere in a dilatometric device [1,2]. One compact was sintered up to 915 °C to retain metastabile ZnTiO3 and held 5 minutes on that temperature, and another one at the same conditions, but now up to 970 °C to induce phase transition and to obtain stabile Zn2TiO4 and TiO2 according to phase diagram [2]. Reheated samples obtained at different characteristic temperatures in air were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The infrared attenuated total reflectivity measurements confirmed XRD results. In order to estimate theoretical stability of these perovskite structure, Goldschmidt tolerance factor Gt and global instability index GII were calculated. Furthermore, the Ti valence states were determined by bond valence calculations (BVC). Also, we have investigated the formation of new phases (Zn2Ti3O8, TiO2 and Zn2TiO4) originating from ZnTiO3 with temperature change, as well as the relation between the crystal structures which have been predicted and the structure of the phases we have experimentally observed.

AB - Starting powders of TiO2 (anatase) and Fe2O3 (hematite) were mixed in the molar ratio 1:1. Pseudobrookite powder was obtained by a combined milling/calcination procedure. Particle size distribution was analyzed on a laser particle size analyzer and correlated with XRD and SEM analysis. The band gap was determined using UV/Vis spectroscopy. Green samples were sintered in a dilatometer and at 1000oC for 2h in air. Thermal diffusivity was determined from photoacoustic measurements. Electrical conductivity measurements were performed. The aim was to obtain pseudobrookite with properties suitable for polymer paste for thick films to be applied as gas sensors.

AB - Metastabile nanopowder ZnTiO3 pressed into cylindrical compacts at 200 MPa was submitted to conventional heating with isothermal holding at 931oC for 10 minutes, 25 minutes and 40 minutes. Same compacts were heated with two-step sintering schedule with maximal 912oC and isothermal holding at 896oC, for approximately the same holding times as with isothermal. Shrinkage during heating was monitored with dilatometric device, while microstructure was determined with atomic force microscopy. XRD patterns were collected for the most prominent samples. Sintered specimens microstructure showed differences introduced during last sintering stage by two heating schedules.

AB - Strontium-titanate powder was mechanically activated in a planetary ball mill for 0, 5, 10, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. Non-isothermal sintering of non-activated and activated SrTiO3 powder samples in the temperature interval from 50 to 1300 0C with three different heating rates (10, 15 and 20 0C/min) was investigated on a dilatometer. X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to determine the phase composition, lattice microstrains and microstructure morphology of the samples. XRD results showed the presence of new phases: SrCO3 (strontuim-carbonate) and TiO2 (anatase) after 30 minutes of mechanical activation.

AB - Mechanical activation is widely used and relatively inexpensive procedure for sintering process sample preparation. However, the influence of pressure, which is used for compaction, has not been completely investigated. Cordierite, 2MgO⋅2Al2O3⋅5SiO2, is a very actual hightemperature ceramic material, due to its characteristics. Based on our previous investigation, the mechanical activation of the starting mixtures with 5.00 mass% TiO2 was performed in a high energy ball mill during 10 minutes. Compaction pressure varied from 0.5 to 6t/cm2 (49 MPa - 588 MPa). Sintering process was performed at 1350oC for 4h in air atmosphere. The phase composition of activated and sintered samples was analyzed by the X-ray diffraction method. Scanning electron microscopy was performed to analyze the microstructure of both compacted and sintered sample. Non-isothermal sintering up to 1400oC, with a constant heating rate, was investigated by thermal shrinkage change with dilatometer. In this paper we research green bodies and sintered samples compaction pressure influence electrical properties.
