abstract = "Marine environment has been recognized as a valuable source of bioactive polymers with industrial potential. Some families of polysaccharides, such as chitosan and alginate, are highly abundant renewable biomasses that might be obtained from microorganisms, shrimps, clams, or algae. These polysaccharides exhibit various biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-infection, anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic effects. Besides their natural biological and structural functions, the marine biopolymers can be tailored to be new biomaterials with novel functionalities. Hence, this chapter will summarize the most important novel concepts and inventions along with marine biopolymer engineering.",
