AB - The hydrolytic stability of two nano-SiO2-based UF composites with derivates of coumarin (names as K-1 and K-2) was investigated. K-1 is 3-nitro-4-(p-tolylamino)-2H-chromen-2-one and K-2: 4-((3-nitro-2-oxo-2H-chromen-4-yl)amino)benzenesulfonamide. Two types of nano-silica-based urea–formaldehyde (UF), composite materials with a formaldehyde-to-urea (F/U) ratio of 0.8, were synthesized (UF/K-1/SiO2, and UF/K-2/SiO2). The hydrolytic stability of modified UF composite was determined by measuring the mass loss and liberated formaldehyde concentration of modified UF composite after acid hydrolysis. Obtained results showed that the hydrolytic stability of modified resins with derivates of coumarin was enhanced. The formaldehyde emission of modified UF/K-1/SiO2 composite is lower compared with UF/K-2/SiO2 composite. The thermal behavior of materials was studied by non-isothermal thermo-gravimetric analysis and differential thermal gravimetry supported by data from ATR-IR spectroscopy. The shift of temperature values for selected mass losses (T5%) to a high temperature indicates the increase in thermal stability of samples based on UF resin modified with K-2. © 2020, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

AB - Urea-formaldehyde resin (F/U ratio of 0.8)/thermally activated montmorillonite (UF/Delta TK10) nanocomposite was synthesized. The hydrolytical, thermal, and UV radiation stability of UF/Delta TK10 nanocomposites are determined. UF hybrid nanocomposites have been irradiated with UV light with a wavelength of 254 nm and 366 nm, and after that, their radiation stability was evaluated. The free formaldehyde (FA) percentage in all prepared samples was determined. The sample was characterized by using X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), nonisothermal thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential thermal analysis (DTA), and differential thermal gravimetry (DTG), with infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Crosslinked UF/Delta TK10 nanocomposite shows the highest resistance to acid hydrolysis after UV irradiation at a wavelength of 254 nm. The values for T-5% are identical for the unirradiated and UV irradiated (wavelength of 366 nm) UF/Delta TK10 nanocomposite. It can be concluded that this sample is thermally most stable and shows good resistance to UV irradiation.

AB - Sphene based glass-ceramics (CaTiSiO5), an excellent candidate for a host lattice of ceramic materials and for nuclear waste immobilization, has been prepared from a powder mixture of CaCO3, TiO2 and SiO2 using vibro-milling for homogenization. Starting powders were melted at 1400?C for 2 h, cooled to room temperature, grounded again, then crystallized by thermal treatment yielding a sphene glass-ceramic. The evolution of the phase composition during thermal treatment was investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), FT-IR, Raman and thermal analyses (TG-DTA). Pure synthetic single phase sphene was formed at 800?C for 4 h, even it is very hard to obtain monophase powder at such low temperature. Powder morphology was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

AB - Simultaneous thermal analysis (TG–DTA) of low-rank coals from different annual periods (2015 and 2018) which originate from Kolubara and Nikola Tesla A (TENT A) coal-fired power plants was studied to identify their combustion characteristics and self-ignition risks. In order to investigate kinetics of thermo-oxidative degradation, model-free models including the Friedman and Kissinger–Akahira–Sunose methods were applied. In accordance with obtained kinetic results, numerical optimization of combustion process was implemented. Homogeneous and heterogeneous types of ignition were identified for the tested coals, and factors that affect their occurrence are the used heating rate and volatile matter content. From thermal susceptibility graph, it was found that the tested coals expand in a wide range of self-ignition risk, depending on their coal rank. The youngest coal (TENT A (2018)) has the largest propensity to self-ignite among high-ranking coals. It was found that less tendency of 2018 coals to show true isokinetic temperature in comparison with 2015 coals is a consequence of intraparticle diffusion limitations, and change of char properties, at higher conversion values. Gamma spectrometry analysis of coals showed that higher concentration of 40K radionuclide (which is in mineral composition) may contribute through its deposition on available sites, decreasing surface area for reaction with oxidizing species. © 2020, Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

AB - This work explores the influence of annealing temperature on microstructural and optical characteristics of Ce 3+ - doped YPO 4 nanopowders prepared by sol gel method. Samples were annealed at various temperatures (T = 300, 500, 700, 900, 1050 °C), their structure, morphology, and photoluminescent properties were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), TGA-DTA analysis and Photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). X-ray diffraction analyses confirmed their pure tetragonal zircon structure with average grain size from 5 nm up to 30 nm in dependence on the calcination temperature. The SEM image shows quasi-spherical agglomerated nanoparticles with no heterogenic size. Photoluminescence emission spectra of powders were recorded using excitation wavelength at 245 nm. We investigated the influence of annealing temperature on the optical properties, for samples annealed up to 700 °C no emission has been observed, but the emission increased with annealing temperature above 700° and the characteristic Ce 3+ emission bands (4f 1 →4f 0 5d 1 ) have been observed. Emission intensity increased with annealing temperature due to beter crystallinity and incorporation of Ce 3+ ions in Y 3+ site.

AB - The thermal stability of organic-inorganic nano-composites prepared by a two-stage polymerization of urea-formaldehyde resin (UF) with furfuryl alcohol (FA) and TiO2 before and after irradiation has been researched. The two resins of urea-formaldehyde–TiO2 composites, named: UF/TiO2 and UF/TiO2/FA, were synthesized. The thermal stability of obtained materials was studied by non-isothermal thermo-gravimetric analysis (TG), differential thermal gravimetry (DTG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). UF hybrid composites have been irradiated (50 kGy) and after that their radiation stability was evaluated on the basis of thermal behavior. The free formaldehyde (HCOH) percentage in all prepared samples was determined. The minimum percentage values of free formaldehyde (0.04% and 0.03%) for UF/TiO2 and UF/TiO2/FA, respectively, after irradiation dose of 50 kGy are detected. The shift of temperature values for selected mass losses (T10%) to a high temperature indicates the increase in thermal stability of samples based on UF resin modified with FA.

AB - The powder recycled rubber (PRR) can be used as a filler and a modifier for elastomeric materials and asphalt. Composites based on elastomers and recycled rubber powders are a serious challenge for the environment. The main goal of this paper was to study the effect of rubber powder on the mechanical properties of elastomeric composites based on three precursors of the network. Triple blends were prepared using non-polar natural rubber (NR), polyisoprene rubber (BR), and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) (mass ratio 40/40/20). In all rubber compounds, the carbon black (CB)/PRR mass ratio is constant (60). Samples were prepared using two roll mill. The characteristics of hardening (optimum cure time, scorch time, minimum and maximum torque) of rubber mixtures were tested. Tensile strength, modulus at 100% elongation and elongation at break are decreasing with PRR ratio is increasing. It is due to poor adhesion of PRR into NR/BR/SBR/CB matrix. The thermal degradation temperature shifts to a higher temperature up to 5 phr of PRR in NR/BR/SBR/CB rubber blends. Fourier-transform infrared spectra of NR/BR/SBR/CB/PRR samples show that the absorption bands shifted 7–15 cm−1 to higher wavenumbers and confirmed rubber–filler interaction. Morphology was assessed by scanning electron microscopy. POLYM. COMPOS., 40:1307–1314, 2019. © 2018 Society of Plastics Engineers. © 2018 Society of Plastics Engineers

AB - In this applicative work, two types of silica filler were used to increase the adhesion strength between steel and elastomeric hybrid materials based on chlorosulfonated polyethylene rubber (CSM) and polychloroprene rubber (CR) as network precursors. Precipitated silica (PS) with the average size of primary particles 15 nm and diatomaceous earth (DE) with the average size of primary particles 28 μm were used to ascertain differences in metal-elastomer compounds adhesion strength caused by different particle size. The ratio of network precursors in CSM/CR rubber blends was 50:50 (w/w). The filler loading was in the range of 0–35 phr. Characteristics of the obtained composites were examined by combining the cure kinetics, adhesion strength and the dynamic mechanical properties. The viscoelasticity of obtained hybrid materials was assessed by the mechanical spectrometer (in a single cantilever bending mode) in the temperature range from −50 °C to 150 °C using multifrequency mode. AB - The antibacterial ability of in situ prepared nanometer-sized silver particles, immobilized in agar-agar films, was studied as a function of the concentration of co-dopant, magnesium ions. Content of inorganic components in hybrid films was determined using inductively coupled plasma optic emission spectroscopy, and found to be low (<2 wt.-%). Morphology of prepared hybrid films, studied by transmission electron microscopy, revealed the presence of non-agglomerated and randomly distributed 10–20 nm silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) within the agar-agar matrices. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy indicated the distinct chemical interaction between Ag NPs and polymer chains. Thermogravimetric analysis, as well as the determination of tensile strength, Young's modulus, and elongation at break showed improvement of thermal stability and mechanical properties of agar-agar matrices upon the incorporation of Ag NPs due to high compatibility between the hydrophilic organic component and inorganic components. The complete microbial reduction of Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureuswas observed for all agar-silver films, while satisfactory results were observed for Gram-negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa (≥99.6%). The release of Ag+ ions is suppressed by the increase of the concentration of Mg2+ ions and it was found to be significantly smaller (≤0.24 ppm) than the harmful ecological level (1 ppm). © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

AB - Thermal degradation properties of 5-(4-substitutedphenylazo)-3-amido-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pyridones and 5-(4-substitutedphenylazo)-3-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pyridones dyes, differing in electron withdrawing and electron donating substituents in para-position of diazo components were examined. The structure of the synthesized compounds has been confirmed by 1H NMR,13C NMR, FTIR, UV–Vis and XRD analysis techniques. The results obtained with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) – derivative thermogravimetry (DTG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) were combined with GC-mass spectral fragmentation to obtain thermal decomposition mechanism. Non-isothermal kinetics were monitored by application of TGA-DTG-DTA. For Kinetic behavior of the investigated dyes during their degradation in an inert atmosphere, Kissinger, Ozawa, Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO) and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) isoconversional (model-free) methods were applied. It was found that different thermal stabilities of investigated dyes are the consequence of their different chemical structures, including diverse substituents. © 2019

AB - © 2018 Elsevier B.V. In recent years, there exists a tendency in research of up-conversion materials to shift excitation from 980 nm to shorter wavelengths. Here, in order to produce up-conversion luminescence emission of GdVO4-based materials under 808 nm excitation, polycrystalline powders of GdVO4:Er3+/Nd3+and GdVO4:Ho3+/Nd3+were successfully prepared by a high-temperature solid-state reaction technique. The prepared powders were highly crystalline with a single-phase zircon-type GdVO4structure and consisted of micrometer-sized irregular spherical particles (2–6 μm in diameter). In all studied samples, visible up-conversion luminescence was successfully achieved under 808 nm illumination. Near-infrared pumping produced emission bands in the green, yellow-orange and green regions of the visible spectrum. The bands in the green and red regions of GdVO4: Er3+/Nd3+as well as GdVO4:Ho3+/Nd3+were, respectively, characteristic of Er3+and Ho3+ions. The dominant band originating from the4G7/2→4I11/2transition in Nd3+ions was observed around 597 nm in all samples.

AB - The elastomeric materials based on NR/BR/SBR ternary rubber blend were investigated. The polyisoprene (NR), butadiene (BR) and styrene butadiene (SBR) rubbers were used as network precursors and carbon black (CB) as an active filler (60 phr) for elastomeric materials preparation. For sample preparation, the mass ratio of NR to BR was constant, 1:1, but the SBR content was varied from 0 to 80 phr. The morphological, mechanical and thermal properties of prepared elastomeric materials were determined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), mechanical tensile measurements and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Mechanical properties were assessed before and after thermooxidative aging during 168 h at 100 °C. The values of tensile strength, elongation at break, and hardness decrease up to 40 phr of SBR content and after that are increasing, but abrasion resistance of ternary rubber blends increases. The thermal decomposition temperature obviously shifted to a higher temperature for the sample with 40 phr of SBR. © 2019, CI and CEQ. All rights reserved.

AB - Alkyd resin/TiO2 nanocomposites (NC) were prepared from short oil alkyd resin and TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) surface modified with in situ formed imine ligand, based on 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde and oleylamine, or with three gallic acid esters. The short oil alkyd resin was synthesized from sunflower oil, phthalic anhydride, and trimethylolpropane. Unmodified and surface modified TiO2 NPs were examined by transmission electron microscopy. Rheological investigation revealed that prepared dispersions have higher dynamic viscosity than pure alkyd resin. Using different characterization methods it was obtained that NCs have similar thermooxidative stability as alkyd resin, lower glass transition temperature, better barrier properties, enhanced hardness, better chemical resistance, and lower adhesion to the metal, except in the case of NC prepared using TiO2 NPs surface modified with imine, which exhibited better adhesion to the metal than pure alkyd resin.

AB - Monoclinic scheelite-type BiVO4 is currently considered as one of the most promising non-titania photocatalysts, wheras tetragonal zircon-type BiVO4 is still poorly understood. Herein, a new and simple synthetic approach was applied and nanostructured single-phase zircon-type BiVO4 was successfully prepared by a controllable ethylene-glycol colloidal route. In addition, nanostructured monoclinic scheelite-type BiVO4 powders were also fabricated through annealing of the as-prepared samples. A comparative study of the two BiVO4 polymorphs was conducted and it turned out that the novel synthetic approach had a significant impact on porosity and photocatalytic performance of zircon-structured BiVO4. All the prepared materials, as-prepared and annealed, were mesoporous, while measured values of specific surface area of some zircon-structured samples (∼34 m2/g) were ∼7 times higher than those reported thus far for this phase. Interestingly, for the first time, zircon-type BiVO4, previously considered to be a poor photocatalyst, exhibited a better overall performance in degradation of methyl orange compared to monoclinic scheelite-type BiVO4. Hence, it could be expected that the here-presented synthesis and observations will both arouse interest in scarcely studied tetragonal zircon-type BiVO4 and facilitate as well as speed up further research of its properties. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

AB - This paper reports a simple route for the preparation of graphene/poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene) (SBS) nanocomposite films employing a vacuum filtration method. Graphene is exfoliated well by an electrochemical procedure and homogeneously dispersed in the polymer matrix. The prepared nanocomposite films were characterized by XRD, Fourier transform IR (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectroscopy, AFM and SEM. Morphological studies showed that graphene formed a smooth coating over the surface of SBS. The increase in graphene concentration induces the wrinkling of graphene sheets at the composite surface which causes a further increase in surface roughness. The FTIR, Raman and XPS spectra of graphene/SBS nanocomposite films indicate the strong interactions between graphene and the polymer matrix. According to the XRD patterns, introducing SBS into graphene did not modify the graphene structure additionally, i.e. the crystal lattice parameters do not depend on SBS content in graphene/SBS nanocomposite films. The graphene/SBS nanocomposite films also exhibited better hydrophobicity due to the increased surface roughness and lower sheet resistivity (reduced 10 times) compared to exfoliated graphene.

AB - Kaolins are used in a multiplicity of industries because of unique physical and chemical properties. Relationships between thermal and radioactivity properties are discussed in its application as a building material. Super-fine kaolin powder with particle sizes about 30 mu m was analyzed. Simultaneous TGA/DTA analysis was performed on powder samples at various heating rates in an argon atmosphere. Based on investigated thermal properties, it was concluded that dehydroxylation process can vary depending on the characteristics of starting material. The maximum degree of the dehydroxylation (D (T)) was obtained at the lowest rate of heating (D (T) = 60.79% for 10 A degrees C min(-1)). With an increase in the heating rate, decline in D (T) value was observed. Based on comprehensive testing, it was identified that the degree of dehydroxylation does not drop below 50%. It was concluded that appointed experimental conditions seem sufficient admissible for obtaining degree of dehydroxylation (D (T)) higher than 50%. In order to safe use of kaolin as a building material from the standpoint of radiological safety, content of natural radionuclides was determined by gamma spectrometry.

AB - The goal of this work was to synthesize and characterize ternary rubber blends based on polyisoprene (natural rubber (NR)), polybutadiene rubber (BR), and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) (NR/BR/SBR = 25/25/50) reinforced with different loading silica (SiO2) nanoparticles (0-100 part per hundred parts of rubber (phr)). The specimens were subjected to thermooxidative aging at 100 degrees C, for two times: at 72 and 168 h, respectively, and then mechanically stretched to fracture by tension with a Zwick 1425 (Zwick GmbH, Ulm, Germany) universal tensile testing machine. Rheological and mechanical properties were used as characterization of the ternary rubber blends. The reinforcing performance of the filler was investigated using rheometric, mechanical, and swelling measurements, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflectance. Hardness, tensile strength, elongation at break, and swelling degree were assessed before and after thermal aging. There was a remarkable decrease in the optimum cure time (t(c90)) and the scorch time (t(s2)), which was associated with a decrease in the cure rate index of (NR/BR/SBR = 25/25/50) ternary rubber blend with 60 phr of filler loading. Interaction between rubber blend and SiO2 nano-filler is confirmed by moving absorption band from 1450 cm(-1) to 1480 cm(-1).

AB - Atom transfer free radical polymerization (ATRP) was employed in a synthesis of graft polymer EVA-g-PMMAwith controlled length of side PMMA chains. Three steps of synthesis: partial hydrolysis of EVA, esterification with chloroacetyl chloride and ATRP grafting were performed to produce EVAOH, macroinitiator EVACl and grafted polymers G8020 (EVA/PMMA = 80/20 wt%) and G6040 (EVA/PMMA = 60/40 wt%). FTIR, Raman and NMR spectroscopy were used in the determination of the chemical structure and modification of EVA. Transmitted light and dark field microscopy showed higher affinity for coil formation of EVA-g-PMMA with longer PMMA side chains, i.e. G6040 compatibilizer. Morphological, thermal and adhesive properties of optical fiber adhesives of graft polymers and polymer blends poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate)-blend-poly(methyl methacrylate) (EVA/PMMA) compatibilized with 1 wt% of EVA-g-PMMA, were studied. Image analysis of SEM micrographs showed effective compatibilization with short grafted chains (G8020) that was indicated by lower porosity characteristics. TG/DTG analysis enabled determination of degree of hydrolysis and amount of chloro-functionalized groups. DSC analysis showed higher thermal stability of G8020 polymer. Single lap joint of adhesives/optical fibers were subjected to adhesive testing and obtained results for maximal force applied and adhesive failure suggested the visible influence of the length of graft chains on adhesion.

AB - Kinetic and thermodynamic analysis of non-isothermal decomposition of super-fine kaolin powder was examined. It was established that the decomposition process proceeds through liberation of adsorbed water, the loss of the water of hydration and dehydroxylation process, which produces highly disordered metakaolin. By applying the distributed reactivity approaches, it was found that dehydroxylation can be described with simultaneous two-parallel reactions model. By applying the Exner-Linert statistical method on estimated Eyring plots, the true isokinetic temperature was confirmed. The appearance of entropy - enthalpy compensation (EEC) showed the direct cause-and-effect relationship between these thermodynamic observables resulting by physically real factors such as the steric factors. It was shown that the phenomenon of true compensation effect arises from conformational (geometrical) changes, which occur during metakaolin formation.

AB - Kinetics of degradation for Aronia melanocarpa fresh fruits in argon and air atmospheres were investigated. The investigation was based on probability distributions of apparent activation energy of counterparts (ea). Isoconversional analysis results indicated that the degradation process in an inert atmosphere was governed by decomposition reactions of esterified compounds. Also, based on same kinetics approach, it was assumed that in an air atmosphere, the primary compound in degradation pathways could be anthocyanins, which undergo rapid chemical reactions. A new model of reactivity demonstrated that, under inert atmospheres, expectation values for ea occured at levels of statistical probability. These values corresponded to decomposition processes in which polyphenolic compounds might be involved. sa values obeyed laws of binomial distribution. It was established that, for thermo-oxidative degradation, Poisson distribution represented a very successful approximation for sa values where there was additional mechanistic complexity and the binomial distribution was no longer valid. AB - Amorphous iron (III) oxide was obtained from clay, using ammonium hydroxide as a precipitating agent. Influence of freeze drying under vacuum, as a drying method, on particle size, chemical composition, and crystallinity of obtained iron (III) oxide powder was investigated. After freeze drying, precipitate was annealed in air at 500 C-o and 900 oC. X-ray diffraction, particle size analysis, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis were used to characterize obtained iron (III) oxide powder. All of three powders obtained by freeze drying and annealing, have low crystallinity and particles with irregular layered shape. Narrow particle size distribution was given by an average diameter value of around 50 mu m for all observed powders. Iron-bearing materials like a-Fe2O3 and gamma-Fe2O3 are obtained. Differential thermal analysis curve of obtained samples showed endothermic reaction at 620 oC which could be ascribed to phase transition from cubic form gamma- - GT alpha- Fe2O3. Thermal transformations of iron (III) oxide, obtained from clay as a natural source, is suitable to explore in the framework of materials chemistry, and opens the possibility to synthesize materials based on Fe2O3 with specific magnetic behavior.

AB - The systematic investigation of crystallization kinetics of heavy-group lanthanide dititanate pyrochlores, HL2Ti2O7 (HL=Lu, Tm, Er, Ho, Y, Dy, and Tb) is presented. Materials are prepared by the Pechini-type polymerized complex route, and their thermal properties were studied by differential thermal analysis under non-isothermal conditions. For this group, the crystallization temperature became larger with increasing the ionic radius of lanthanides, from 1066 K for Lu2Ti2O7 to 1125 K for Tb2Ti2O7. The linear dependence of crystallization temperature on radius of heavy lanthanide ions is found to follows T-c [K] = 168.86 + 920.89 x r(ion) [angstrom] semi-empirical equation. Apparent activation energies of crystallization were obtained from calculations based on the Arrhenius equation, isoconversional method and PerezMaqueda method, and are similar to 805 kJ mol(-1) calculated by three different methods. The crystallization kinetics followed the so-called Avrami Erofeev (A3) model, as confirmed using several criteria, namely, the Malek, master plot, and Perez-Maqueda methods. The crystallization mechanism of all lanthanide dititanate pyrochlores is found to be the same, and the crystallization process involves a constant rate of nucleation and two-dimensional growth of nuclei. AB - Influence of the addition of three different non-metallic fractions (NMF), obtained by processing of printed circuit boards (PCBs), on the mechanical and thermal properties of unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) based composites were studied in this paper. UPR, based on products of PET depolymerization, and NMF were characterized using FTIR, NMR, optical microscopy and SEM/EDS analysis. Cross-linking density (v), storage modulus (G), damping factor (tan delta) and glass transition temperature (T-g) of the composites were determined from the DMA testing. Tensile (sigma(t)) and flexural (sigma(f)) strength, and micro Vickers hardness indicated good composite performance under static load. Thermal and flame resistant properties were analyzed by TGA/DTG and UL-94 flammability test whereby V-2 category of appropriate composite was achieved. Composites with satisfactory mechanical and thermal properties reflected synergetic effect of constituents obtained from waste materials. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

AB - Novel biobased poly(ester-urethane)s (PUDs) were synthesized by solvent free homogeneous solution polymerization of poly(caprolactone) diol (PCL), castor oil-based polyols (COLs), dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and 1,4-butane diol (BD) as the chain extender. The polyurethane dispersions were prepared by adding required amount of triethylamine (TEA) and water. In this Work, castor oil-based polyols have been synthesized using the depolymerized oligoester obtained from glycolysis of PET waste with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG 400) and castor oil. The effects of the soft segments content on the thermal and coatings properties of resulting polyurethane films have been examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and measurement of the coatings properties. Phase separation of polyurethane shows a strong correlation with crystallization behaviour of the polyurethane prepared. It is established that all PUD samples containing PCL as a part soft segment with different molar ratio of castor-oil polyol are crystallisable polymers. The results from XRD analysis have showed that highest degree of crystallinity (23 and 22%) is reached in polyurethanes based on the largest content PCL diol (CPU77 and CPU73). The thermal stability of samples based on (COL/PCL molar ratio 0.25:0.75) possesses the best thermal properties but less values hardness coatings which can be ascribed to a decrease of the hard segment i.e. DMPA content in polyurethane dispersions. The long-term stability of polyurethane dispersions has been investigated using UV vis spectroscopy. The physico-mechanical properties such as hardness adhesion test and gloss of the dried films have also been determined considering the effect of soft segment content on coating properties.
