abstract = "Benign tumors of the spleen are a rare disease. Their unclear pathogenesis and clinical presentation are a diagnostic and surgical challenge in terms of setting up the right diagnosis and selecting an adequate surgical approach. Our work introduces a female patient aged 42, who started a medical examination because of non-specific problems in the form of occasional pain in the upper left quadrant of the abdomen. Laboratory values were within limits and preoperative diagnostic radiology indicated a change corresponding to the splenic tumor. according to the preoperative diagnostic finding, we decided for laparoscopic splenectomy with the intraoperative verification of the accessory spleen, which we preserved and left in the stomach after a histopathological confirmation that it was not a lymphoproliferative disease. The post-operative recovery process went without complications and, after being discharged from the hospital, the patient was prescribed the necessary vaccination and antibiotic prophylaxis. Laparoscopy takes a significant place in the treatment of this disease, considering all the benefits of a minimally invasive approach with the necessity of a multidisciplinary approach, primarily histopathological verification.",
