AB - In the past century, the use of polymers and composites with a polymer matrix has expanded to such a level that today it is impossible to imagine life without these materials. Epoxy resin and epoxy-based composites are widely used as construction materials, due to their excellent adhesion, thermal and chemical stability. Fractal nature analysis can provide insight in morphological changes at fiber-matrix interface level, which could give direction for the processing of composites. This mathematical technique can be performed on field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) images, by identifying fiber phase and pores shapes and boundaries, as well as fiber-matrix bonding at the interface. In this study, fiberglass mat was used for the reinforcement of epoxy. FESEM image of enlarged fiber after the composite fracture was used for the reconstruction of data. With the use of affine fractal regression model, software Fractal Real Finder was employed for the reconstruction of fiber shape and the determination of Hausdorff dimension. © 2021 IEEE.

AB - The BaTiO3 ceramics applications based on electronic properties have very high gradient scientific and industrial-technological interests. Our scientific research has been based on nano BaTiO3 modified with Yttrium based organometallic salt (MOD-Y). The samples have been consolidated at a sintering temperature of 1350 °C. Within the study, the new frontiers for different electronic properties between the layers of BaTiO3 grains have been introduced. The research target was grain boundary investigations and the influence on dielectric properties. After scanning electron microscopy and dielectric measurements, it has been established that modified BaTiO3 samples with larger grains showed a better compact state that led to a higher dielectric constant value. DC bias stability was also investigated and showed a connection between the grain size and capacitance stability. Analyses of functions that could approximate experimental curves were successfully employed. Practical application of fractal corrections was performed, based on surface (αs) and pore size (αp) corrections, which resulted in obtainment of the relation between the capacitance and Curie temperature. Successful introduction of fractal corrections for capacitance-Curie temperature dependence for a set of experimental data is an important step towards further miniaturization of intergranular capacitors. © 2020 by the authors.

AB - The influence of rare-earth additive content on microstructure and electric properties of doped BaTiO3 ceramics is investigated. The concentration of Er2O3 and Yb2O3 in the doped samples range from 0.01 to 1.0at % . The samples are prepared by the conventional solid state reaction, and sintered at 1320° and 1350°C in air atmosphere for 4 hours. SEM analysis shows that all samples are characterized by polygonal grains. The uniform and homogeneous microstructure with grain size ranged from 20 to 45μm is the main low doped samples characteristics. For the samples doped with the higher dopant concentration (0.5 and 1.0 at%) the average grains size is ranged from 5 to 10μm. Dielectric measurements are carried out as a function of temperature up to 180°C at different frequencies. The low doped samples display the high value of dielectric permittivity at room temperature. A nearly flat permittivity-temperature response is obtained in specimens with higher additive content. The Curie temperature of doped samples were ranged from 126 to 130°C. The Curie constant for all series of samples decrease with increment of dopant concentration and the lowest values is mesured from samples doped with 0.01 wt% of aditive. The obtained value of γ pointed out that the specimens have almost sharp phase transition. Also, the specific electrical resistance is measured in function of temperature at the different frequencies from 100Hz to 1MHz. With increasing additives concentration, the electrical resistance decreases to the concentration of 0.5 at% and then increases.

AB - The aim of this paper was investigation of structural and electrical properties of magnesium titanate ceramic obtained mechanochemically and subjected to two stage sintering process. Mixtures of MgO and TiO2 were treated in a planetary ball mill for several time intervals ranging from 0 to 160 minutes. Powders prepared in this way were two stage sintered, at 1400 °C in air in the first stage, and then post-sintered by pressure assisted technique Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) at 1280 °C in argon atmosphere with a pressure of 200 MPa. X-ray diffraction was performed in order to established phase composition of obtained ceramics. Densities of sintered samples were measured by Archimedes method. The values of density were over 96 % of theoretical one and pure MgTiO3 phase was observed. Morphology of sintered bodies was investigated by SEM, and micrographs indicate the final sintering stage and very dense ceramics. Electrical measurements were performed in the microwave field of frequency.

AB - The samples of Sm/Mn codoped BaTiO3 ceramics, prepared by conventional solid state procedure with dopant concentrations ranged from 0.1 up to 5.0 at%, were investigated in this paper. The specimens were sintered at 1290°C and 1350°C in an air atmosphere for two hours. The low doped samples demonstrated the mainly uniform and homogeneous microstructure with average grain sizes ranged from 0.3 μm to 5.0 μm. The appearances of secondary abnormal grains in fine grain matrix and core-shell structure were observed in highly doped Sm/BaTiO3 sintered at 1350°C. Dielectric measurements were carried out as a function of temperature up to 200°C. The low doped samples, sintered at 1350°C, display the high value of dielectric permittivity (εr=6800 ) at room temperature. A nearly flat permittivity-response was obtained in specimens with 5.0 at% additive content. Using a modified Curie-Weiss low the Curie-like constant C´ and a critical exponent γ were calculated. The obtained values of γ pointed out the diffuse phase transformation in heavily doped BaTiO3 samples.

Nb/BaTiO3 ceramics using in this investigation were prepared by the conventional solid state reaction and sintered at 1320°C in an air atmosphere for 2 hours. The dielectric characteristic of doped BaTiO3 ceramics like as dielectric constant, dissipation factor, impedance (resistance, reactance) have been done by using LCR-Meter Agilent 4284A in the frequency range 20 Hz-1 MHz and Agilent E4991A RF Impedance/Material Analyzer for high frequency measurements (1 MHz – 3 GHz). Dielectric constant and tangent losses after initial large values remains nearly independent of frequency greater than 3 kHz. Dielectric measurements were carried out as a function of temperature up to 180°C. The low doped samples sintered at 1320°C, display the high value of dielectric permittivity at room temperature, 2600 for 0.5Nb/BaTiO3. A nearly flat permittivity-temperature response was obtained in specimens with 2.0 at% additive content. The Curie-Weiss and modified Curie-Weiss law is used to clarify the influence of dopant on the dielectric properties and BaTiO3 phase transformation. All investigated samples have an electrical resistivity ρ >105 Ωcm at room temperature.

AB - The Er doped BaTiO3 ceramics, with different Er2O3 content, ranging from 0.01 to 1.0 wt% Er, were investigated regarding their microstructural and dielectric characteristics in this paper. Doped BaTiO3 were prepared by using conventional method of solid state sintering at 1380 °C for four hours. SEM analysis of Er/BaTiO3 doped ceramics showed that in samples doped with a rareearth ions low level, the grain size ranged from 20-40 μm, while with the higher dopant concentration the abnormal grain growth is inhibited and the grain size ranged between 2-10μm. Dielectric measurements were carried out as a function of temperature up to180°C at different frequencies. The low doped samples sintered at 1380 °C, display the high value of dielectric permittivity at room temperature, 2160 for 0.01 Er/BaTiO3. A nearly flat permittivity-response was obtained in specimens with higher additive content. Using a Curie-Weiss low and modified Curie-Weiss low the Curie constant C, Curie temperature Tc and a critical exponent of nonlinearity γ were calculated. The Curie temperature of doped samples were ranged from 126 to 130 °C. The Curie constant for all series of samples decrease with increase of dopant concentration and the lowest values were mesured from samples doped with 0.01 wt% of aditive. The obtained value of γ pointed out that the specimens have almost sharp phase transition.

The low doped samples sintered at 1380 °C, display the high value of dielectric permittivity at room temperature, 2400 for 0.01 Ho/BaTiO 3. A nearly flat permittivity-response was obtained in specimens with higher additive content. Using a Curie-Weiss low and modified CurieWeiss low the Curie constant (C), Curie temperature (Tc) and a critical exponent of nonlinearity (γ) were calculated. The obtained value of γ pointed out that the specimens have almost sharp phase transition.

The samples were prepared by the conventional solid state reaction and sintered at 1320° and 1380°C in an air atmosphere for 4 hours. The grain size and microstructure characteristics for various samples and their phase composition was carried out using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with EDS system. SEM analysis of Ho/BaTiO 3 doped ceramics showed that in samples doped with a rare-earth ions low level, the grain size ranged from 20-30μμm, while with the higher dopant concentration the abnormal grain growth is inhibited and the grain size ranged between 2-10μμm. AB - The aim of this work was an investigation of structural and electrical properties of sintered barium-zinc-titanate ceramics. Mixtures of BaCO3, ZnO and TiO2 were mechanically activated in a planetary ball mill up to 80 minutes and sintered isothermally in air for 120 minutes at 1300°C. The phase composition in the BaCO3-ZnO-TiO2 system after milling and sintering was analyzed using the XRD method. The existence of pure barium-zinc-titanate has been registered. Microstructure analyses were performed using SEM. The results of electric resistivity, capacitance and loss tangent of the sintered samples were correlated with the XRD and SEM results.PACS numbers: 81.20.Wk, 81.20.Ev, 61.05.C-, 84.37.+q

AB - Sintering process is a complex of different synergetic effects during the ceramics materials consolidation. The microstructural level properties control is very important as a stage in advanced materials prognosis. SEM analysis of Yb/BaTiO3 doped ceramics showed that in samples doped with a low level of dopant and sintered at higher temperatures the grain size ranged from 10-60μm, while with the higher dopant concentration the grain size ranged between 2-15μm. The morphology of sintered BaTiO3-ceramics grains points out the validity of developing new structure analytical methods based on different geometries of grains' model systems. The idea of electrical properties of BaTiO3-ceramics being influenced by intergrain microcontacts can be successfully followed if we start with the two-sphere Coble’s model and also the correction of the Coble’s model. In this paper, the grains contact models based on spherical, ellipsoidal and polyhedral geometries are presented making a new modeling tool for structure research of BaTiO3-ceramics materials. Intergranular impedance analysis of grains clusters was also introduced. Obtained results enabled establishment of interrelation between structural and electrical parameters.

AB - Starting mixtures of BaCO3, ZnO and TiO2 powders were mechanically activated in a planetary ball mill for various periods of time. The powders obtained were sintered nonisothermally to temperatures between 1100 and 1300°C and then held at those temperatures for 120 min. Results of structural characterization using X-ray powder diffraction method, DTA analyses and SEM analyses were conducted for activated and sintered samples. These results were correlated with the results of electric resistivity, capacitance and loss tangent of the samples and it was found that with increasing in milling time, the increase in values of electrical properties was noticed.
