abstract = "In this work, a double-layered sample is considered. One layer of the sample is assumed to have high optical absorption coefficient (β1>>1, surface absorber) while the other layer’s optical absorption coefficient, β2 is low, which is a common situation in transmission photothermal experiments with optically transparent samples [1-5] (Figure 1). The expressions are derived for surface temperature variations due to the absorption of excitation EM radiation and its conversion into heat within the sample. The study focused on two experimental cases: In the first, the surface absorber is considered to be exposed to the excitation EM beam, while in the second, the other layer is the one to be exposed. The differences in amplitude and phase characteristics, predicted by theory in these two cases, are discussed.",
