AB - The coincidence summing effect plays an important role in HPGe spectrometry, especially at low source-detector distances, due to a large solid angle; therefore, the calculation of correction factors is necessary. The aim of the research described in this paper was to compare values of correction factors for a 22Na point source obtained using the GESPECOR software package (Monte-Carlo method) and experimentally obtained values. Measurements were performed using a semiconductor HPGe spectrometer and the point source axially positioned at nine different distances from the detector end-cap. For the purpose of determining correction factors, a system of equations was formed, which, besides nuclear data as the input parameters, uses the experimentally obtained values of the total count in the entire spectrum, as well as the counts in the full energy peaks. The system of equations was solved for each particular case and correction factors were determined. By comparing the results obtained using the experimental and Monte-Carlo method, it was found that the correction factors for the 22Na point source have discrepancies less than 3%. The significance of these discrepancies was also verified from a statistical point of view using a Student's t-test. © 2019 RAD Association. All rights reserved.

kvantitativno određivanje sadržaja radionuklida u zemljištu i drugim uzorcima iz
varijacija.
AB - Gamma ray spectrometry is an analytical method that allows the identification and
quantification of gamma emitting radioisotopes in soil and other environmental
samples. 31 samples of soil were collected from different location in the territory of
Aleksandrovac municipality. All soil samples were dried, milled and sealed in two
different geometries (500 ml Marinelli beaker and 125 ml cylindrical boxes) and stored
for six weeks in order to reach radioactive equilibrium between 226Ra and its
descendants. All samples stored in cylindrical boxes were measured by means of two
coaxial semiconductor HPGe detectors with different characteristics, while samples
stored in Marinelli beakers were measured only by means of one coaxial semiconductor
HPGe detector. The activity concentrations of radionuclides 40K, 137Cs, 235U, 226Ra, 238U
and 228Ac in all soil samples were determined. Variations in specific activities
determination for different geometries measured using one of the detectors, as well as
for cylindrical box geometry measured using both detectors, are presented in this
paper. The causes of these variations are analyzed.

AB - For the purpose of regular monitoring of the concentration of radionuclides in aerosols, air sampling was carried out during the second half of XX century in four places at the Institute „Vinča“ site. Gross beta activities of the aerosols were determined daily. Since beta counting is not destructive method, these samples were subsequently used for the alpha spectrometric measurements. Determination of fallout plutonium, as well as plutonium originated from the Chernobyl accident were performed by alpha spectrometry in the Laboratory for nuclear and plasma physics. Air sampling was performed by pumps with filters. Air samples collected during May 1986 were measured by semiconductor HPGe spectrometer, and the following artificial radionuclides: 137Cs, 134Cs, 106Ru, 125Sb, 144Ce and 110mAg were detected. Maximal concentration of cesium isotopes were observed on 02-03 May, while second maximum was detected on 06 May. Alphaspectrometric measurements of plutonium isotopes indicated also that
maximal concentration of 238Pu and 239,240Pu occurred in the period 01-07 May. Obtained results were in agreement with ones reported in literature for locations of Prague, Munich, and Paris for the same period. Monitoring of air during 1987 and 1989 showed that plutonium isotopes concentrations were below minimal detectable values, except in spring time due to abundant precipitation. The same plutonium sources, prepared during the 90s were re-measured in 2004 and 2005, in order to determine concentration of 241Pu (pure beta emitter) by alpha spectrometry using “Am in-growth Method”. Activity of in-growth americium was determined experimentally, based on measured activity of 228Th, and additionally calculated using the contribution of 236Pu (used as a tracer) descendants obtained by the Bateman’s equations. Obtained activity ratios 241Pu/239,240Pu were within the limits cited in the literature. The result of perennial measurement have been published in several publications in international journals, and presented at numerous national and international conferences. abstract = "Током друге половине двадесетог века у циљу редовног праћења концентрације радионуклида у аеросолима, вршена су узорковања ваздуха на четири места на локацији Института за нуклеарне науке „Винча“.
241Pu., For the purpose of regular monitoring of the concentration of radionuclides in aerosols, air sampling was carried out during the second half of XX century in four places at the Institute „Vinča“ site.
Comprehensive analysis of sample preparation, radiochemical procedure of plutonium separation from air samples, alpha - sources preparation techniques, analysis of recorded spectra, as well as analysis of obtained results for 238Pu, 239,240Pu and 241Pu concentrations are presented in this paper.",

AB - In this article, the X-ray and gamma-ray coincidence summing effect in Eu-152 is studied. Coincidence summing corrections and peak and total efficiencies of point and volume sources were determined using the direct matrices multiplication (DMM) method. The theoretically evaluated peak count rates were found to be in good agreement with the experimentally obtained values. Validation was performed by comparing the calculated efficiency curves and the corresponding correction factors with the results obtained using GESPECOR 4.2 software.
AB - Coal, slag and ash from thermal power plants contain natural radionuclides whose specific activity could be determined by semiconductor gamma spectrometry. These specific activities are generally low, and therefore the samples should be measured at small distances from the detector, where coincidence summing effect are very pronounced. The corrections factors, obtained by using software EFFTRAN, for coincidence summing effects in the case of radionuclides from uranium ( 234mPa, 234Th, 226Ra, 214Bi and 214Pb) and thorium (228Ac, 224Ra, 212Pb, 212Bi and 208Tl) serie are presented in this paper, as well as corrected values for specific activities.

AB - Coal as the fossil fuel contains naturally occurring radionuclides and belongs toNORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials). On the other hand, slag and fly-ash belong to TENORM (Technically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material), and if they are released into the environment an increase and/or redistribution of natural radionuclide content can occur. For the purposes of this study, six sets of samples (18 in total) of “Kolubara” coal, slag and fly-ash were collected during the periodical emission tests in May 2012th at steam boilers K3 and K4 of TPP “Kolubara”, Serbia. Coal, slag and fly-ash samples were prepared for analysis (milled, dried, sieved and weighed) by appropriate standard methods. Prepared samples were placedin 125 mL PVC cylindrical boxes, weighted and sealed with natural wax. Sealed samples were measured with a semiconductor HPGe spectrometer (37 % relative efficiency) after the radioactive equilibrium was reached. The obtained values of specific activity for coal (Ac), slag (As) and fly-ash (Af) do not differ significantly compared to the values available in the literature. Analysis of determined mutual ratiosAs/Ac andAf/Ac are consistent, taking into account uncertainties ofactivity concentrations, with values of approximately 2 and 4, forK3, and1.5 and 4, forK4. Discrepancies were notedonly for40K (bothsteam boilers) ofAs/Ac.Results indicate that further investigation with more samples should be undertaken, and also correlation between radiological and proximate analysis should be determined.

AB - The Direct Matrices Multiplication (DMM) method was developed by D. Novkovi as theoretical model for coincidence summing of X-and gamma rays of radionuclides with complex decays schemes. This method enables: a) identification of allpossible decay paths and decay paths outcomes; b)calculation of particular path outcome, probabilities and corresponding energy deposited in the detector; c) determination of theoretical expressions for count rates of single and summing peaks as well as for total count rate, where the unknown quantities are the total and peak detection efficiencies. This method can be applied to the point sources and for small source-to-detector distances. lt was successfully applied to the decay of 13e6", 576o, '338., and 75Se. The DMM method was tested on the equivalence with other methods for calculation of coincidence summing corrections by G. Kanisch, T. Vidmar and O. Sima and a good agreement with the GESPRECOR program was confirmed for point sources of 133Ba, 13aCs and, 152Er. ln the case of the volume sources, calculations of coincidence summing corrections, peak and total efficiencies are more complex than for point sources. Laboratory for Nuclear and Plasma Physics participated in the intercomparison, organized by the Gamma-ray Spectrometry working group of the lnternational Committee for Radionuclide Metrology (ICRM). Volume iorr.", filled by radioactive solution ("'Er, 134Cs) and with different absorbers have been considered. Results obtained by DMM method showed satisfactory agreement with the mean values.

A complex decay scheme of 152Eu was analyzed and the system of equations was formed. Solving this system required the introduction of some approximations. The calculated correction factors for a cylindrical geometry box and radionuclide 152Eu in combination with copper and plexiglas as absorber are presented in this paper.

U većini Laboratorija za ispitivanje radioaktivnosti, zbog specifičnosti ispitivanih uzoraka i geometrija merenja, nedostatka materijalnih sredstava i sl., uglavnom postoji problem adekvatnosti i mogućnosti nabavke komercijalno dostupnih radioaktivnih standarda i referentnih materijala.
AB - In the Laboratory for Radionuclide Metrology at Vinča Institute, activity concentration measurements are routinely performed and numerous calibration standards are required. Thus, a variety of calibration standards whose measurement geometry and chemical composition and density are similar to those of the measured samples were prepared. The standardized solutions of a common mixture of gamma-emitting radionuclides (241Am, 109Cd, 139Ce, 57Co, 60Co,137Cs, 203Hg, 113Sn, 85Sr, 88Y and 210Pb) purchased at the Czech Metrological Institute were used to prepare working standards for efficiency and energy calibration of gamma-ray semiconductor HPGe spectrometer in accordance with the IAEA recommendations. Calibration standards were prepared in different geometries (PVC cylindrical boxes, Marinelly beakers and PVC cylindrical bottles) and with various matrices (mineralized grass, activated carbon, surface soil, water, sand and ached filter paper). The matrix materials were spiked by using the activated carbon as the activity carrier, and homogenized mechanically. A comprehensive review of the procedures and techniques used for working standard preparation is presented in this paper.

AB - Coincidence summing of X- and gamma-rays in spectra recorded by HPGe detectors is one of the most important problem in gamma ray spectrometry, especially at low source-detector distance. It could be solved by using coincidence summing correction factors. The aim of this paper is to present the correction factors obtained by using a mathematical program EFFTRAN. All correction factors were calculated for the some natural radionuclides of uranium and thorium series for the 200 ml PVC cylindrical box geometry with soil matrix.

AB - Three main ingredients of modern laundry detergent or washing powder are builders (50 % by weight, approximately), the alkylbenzenesulfonate surfactant (15 %), and bleaches (7 %). One of the most common builders (water softeners) is sodium triphosphate. Mainly, detergent ingredients have low biodegradation rate in environment resulting in a number of negative effects. Additionally, heavy use of soluble sodium triphosphate eventually discharged into natural waters lead to problem with eutrophication of lakes and streams. Also, phosphate deposits can contain significant amounts of naturally occurring heavy metals (cadmium, lead, nickel, copper, chromium, and uranium). For these reasons wastewater containing phosphate detergents should be directed to the sewerage system. In order to provide a high level of protection of the environment, the European Union introduced regulations to require biodegradability in all detergents in 2004 [1], and intends to ban phosphates in domestic products from 2013 [2]. Presence of the phosphates in sample, in most cases indicates the presence of uranium and its daughter products. In order to perceive the radiological aspect of environmental pollution by wastewater, the analysis of laundry detergent available on Serbian market was undertaken. Measurements were performed by means of HPGe gamma spectrometer (35 % relative efficiency) in accordance with international recommendation [3]. Ten samples were placed in Marinelly bakers, sealed for six weeks and after reaching radioactive equilibrium measured. Total count rates in recorded spectra ranged from 2.32 s-1kg-1 to 3.69 s-1kg-1. Specific activities of 210Pb ranged from 3 to 11.1 Bqkg1, 40K from 1.25 to 22.2 Bqkg-1, 226Ra from 0.1 to 8.6 Bqkg-1; concentrations of 238U and 232Th were up to 6.6 Bqkg-1 and 1.1 Bqkg-1, respectively, while artificial radionuclides were below MDA (137Cs<0.04 Bqkg-1). Analysis of the obtained results showed that laundry detergents mostly used in Serbia have low content of radionuclides, but still considering the quantities used annually (~107 kg), this aspect of environmental pollution through wastewaters can not be neglected. Also, it should be mentioned that in facilities for wastewater treatment during the technological processes involved in water purification, precipitation and accumulation of radioactivity can occur, although the content of radionuclides is not expected to be high.

AB - A study of coincidence summing of X- and gamma rays of Se-75 has been presented in this paper. The computation of the Se-75 spectra was performed by application of the previously published theory by Novkovi et al. The method enables the treatment of all possible single and sum peaks of Se-75. The calculation gave the 419 decay path outcomes, resulting in 84 peak count rate equations and also the total count rate equation. By HPGe spectrometers with 15% and 18% relative efficiency, 20 and 30 peaks were recorded, respectively. Some simplification of the decay scheme was introduced and existing metastable level had to be treated separately. Nevertheless, the experimental values of the peak count rates were in good agreement with the theoretical evaluation. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

 The IAEA-CU-2009-03 Worldwide open proficiency test: OdreĎivanje prirodnih i veštačkih radionuklida u zemljištu sa mahovinom i spajkovanoj vodi.
AB - Laboratories accredited in accordance with ISO / IEC 17025:2006 have an obligation to participate periodicaly in intercomparison campaigns organised by international centres of excellence in the field of interest. These external quality control exercises confirm the accuracy, reliability and reproducibility of accredited methods. European centers (IAEA, JRC, IRMM) have an obligation, as one of their regular activities, to organize and implement programs of intercomparison measurements. Manny of these programs relate to measurement of natural and artificial radionuclides in environmental samples. Laboratory for Nuclear and Plasma Physics, Institute "Vinča", participated in two worldwide open proficiency tests organised in 2008 and 2009 by the Group for Reference Materials under the IAEA:  The IAEA-CU-2008-03: Determination of naturally occurring radionuclides in phosphogypsum and water.  The IAEA-CU-2009-03: Determination of natural and artificial radionuclides in moss-soil and spiked water. The results of measurements of phosphogypsum, moss soil and water samples are presented in this paper. The specific activities of naturally occurring gamma emitters originated from uranium and thorium series were determined in the phosphogypsum and moss soil samples. Besides them, the content of: 57Co, 60Co, 65Zn, 134Cs, 137Cs, 54Mn, 133Ba and 152Eu were determined in water samples. The obtained results showed generally a very good agreement with referent values of specific activities given by IAEA. The accuracy and precision of the reported results were acceptable. The comprehensive analysis of obtained results enabled the elimination of the observed oversights and the improvement and validation of method for gamma spectrometric analysis of environmental samples

AB - The direct measurement of Ba-133 source activity by the application of the theoretical count rate equations has been recently developed by Novkovic et al. The analytical and Monte Carlo calculation of activity measurement uncertainties were described in previously published papers for the case of one recorded spectra. The procedure of uncertainty calculation for a sequence of successively recorded spectra, enabling the determination of the correlation between peak count rates, is presented in this paper. The uncertainty of activity obtained by the described method is caused by the uncertainty of the experimentally obtained input data and uncertainties of the used nuclear decay data.
