AB - Indoor air quality (IAQ) is very important for children health and well-being, since children are particularly vulnerable and sensitive to the presence of air pollutants. This study was performed in two naturally ventilated schools located in the same municipality. The first school is located in an urban area, at a residential-industrial site, while the other school is situated in a rural area. School buildings were chosen based on their urban environment features. The measurements were carried out in heating and non-heating periods in duration of five consecutive working days. The objective of the study was to analyze IAQ in the classrooms with special emphasis on levels and diurnal variations of particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in occupied and unoccupied school classrooms. In this paper, the CO2 concentrations were measured at both indoor and outdoor environments. Concentrations of CO2 higher than 1000 ppm were regularly detected in the Classrooms during teaching hours. Indoor concentrations of PM10 were not exceeded the guideline, daily average, value of 50 mu g/m(3). Concentrations of PM2.5 exceeded the guideline daily average value of 25 mu g/m(3) in both school during heating period. Concentrations of NO2 did not exceed the guideline value of 200 mu g/m(3). Ventilation rates were calculated and compared with the prescribed limits. In both occupied and unoccupied periods high correlation between CO2 and PM concentrations was determined,

AB - Detailed domestic stock energy models can be used to help formulate optimum energy reduction strategies. However, there will always be considerable uncertainty related to their predictions due to the complexity of the housing stock and the many assumptions required to implement the models. This paper presents a simple Monte Carlo (MC) model that can be easily extended and/or transformed in relation to data available for investigating and quantifying uncertainties in both the housing stock models predictions and scenario assumptions. While 90% of the MC model predictions fell within a range which is +/- 19% the mean value, 50% of them were within +/- 8% of the mean. The findings suggest that the uncertainties associated with the model predictions and scenario assumptions need to be acknowledged fully and - where possible - quantified as even fairly small variability in the influential variables may result in rather large uncertainty in the aggregated models prediction.

AB - A jet of cold air is denser then ambient air but it adheres to the ceiling of the room over the given distance when it is blown horizontally close to it. Such behaviour of fluid jets is well-known as Coanda effect and it is widely used in practice like in the case of ventilation and air-conditioning of rooms. This phenomenon is not sufficiently known both in terms of mechanism and quantitative effects. The complexity is arising in the case of non-adiabatic ceiling that is common practice in real building structures, since the cold air jet, attachment distance is strongly influenced by heat flux thought the ceiling. The aim of this paper is to propose an algorithm of numerical simulation of fluid flow and heat transfer in the room and ceiling simultaneously, known as conjugate heat transfer problem. Using proposed model, uncertainty of heat transfer coefficient determination is avoided integrating the same general transport equation for fluid flow and heat transfer over the whole computational domain including both air movements in the room and ceiling solids.

AB - The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) was one of three mechanisms established by the Kyoto Protocol in 1997 to meet the Climate Convention objective of stabilizing greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. This paper presents the technical and economical feasibility of a potential wind farm site located in Kostolac, Republic of Serbia. The objective of Wind Farm Project in Kostolac is to generate renewable energy using wind power resources and to sell the generated output to the Republic of Serbia Power Grid on the basis of a power purchase agreement. Activity of this project is establishing a good evaluation for developing first wind farm on the territory of Republic Serbia. The project will contribute to sustainable development mainly by: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, compared to a business-as-usual scenario, reducing other pollutants from the power generation industry in Republic of Serbia, compared to a business-as-usual approach, creating local employment opportunities during the proposed project construction and operation period, and reducing poverty, which is very important to the provincial designated poor county of east of Republic Serbia.

A more complex model, based on Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations and modified two-equation k-ε turbulence model for neutral atmospheric boundary layer conditions, written in general curve-linear non-orthogonal coordinate system, has been used. The sets of full conservation equations are numerically solved by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique. Siting of mezzo and micro models of the most attractive mountain locations in Serbia has been investigated. Siting of Crni Vrh and Kostolac (Drmno) are presented by details.

AB - Although the countries of the Western Balkans are mostly electrified, there are still regions which do not have access to the electricity network or where the network capacity is insufficient. For the most part such areas are under special care of the state (i.e. underdeveloped, devastated by war, depopulated), on islands or in mountainous regions. Since the decentralized energy generation covers a broad range of technologies, including many renewable energy technologies that provide small-scale power at sites close to the users, such concept could be of interest for these locations. This paper identfies the areas in Western Balkans where such systems could be applied Consideration is given to geographical locations as well as possible applications. Wind hydro, solar photovoltaic, and biomass conversion systems were taken into consideration. Since the renewable energy sources data for Western Balkans region are rather scarce, the intention was to give a survey of the present situation and an estimate of future polential for decentralized energy generation based on renewable energy sources. The decentralized energy generation based on renewable energy sources in Western Balkans will find its niche easier for the users that will produce electricity for their own needs and for the users located in remote rural areas (off-grid applications).

AB - This paper concern the results of software fire spread process prototype in terminal 2 of Belgrade airport using computational fluid dynamics. Numerical simulation of fire for the most critical fire scenario has been performed, primarily obtaining the space and time distribution of: velocity, pressure, temperature, and smoke concentration, assuming that HVAC systems have been switched off and all doors on the evacuation ways have been opened, just as the fire started Also, two simulations have been compared of the smoke ventilation and not ventilation for the same scenario. Within the framework of the results presentation, isosurfaces of constant temperature (100 degrees C) and smoke concentration (4000 ppm) are presented, based on the numerical simulation. Progression of these surfaces along the terminal 2 coincides to the experimental and experience evidence, forming the plume zone just above the fireplace, and spreading in the zone of underground ceiling and stairwell openings.

AB - A mathematical and numerical model of pulverized coal combustion in wide-range-use furnaces with swirl burners, i.e., within a turbulent particle-laden swirl flow in axisymmetric geometry is presented. The model is based on the k-epsilon model, considering the presence of the solid phase via the additional source terms in the gas phase equations. The disperse phase is treated through the history of particular particles by using the Lagrangian Stochastic Deterministic model. Devolatilization, homogeneous and heterogeneous chemical reaction processes are modeled via the global combustion model using own reaction kinetics data. The model was used to perform an analysis of influence of flow parameters and coal characteristics upon combustion in a wide-range-use furnace. The model was verified by comparing computational and experimental results for combustion of polydisperse pulverized coal in an experimental furnace.

AB - Free two-phase flows occur in many practical applications, such as sprays or particle drying and combustion. This paper deals with mathematical modelling of a free turbulent two-phase jet. A steady, axisymmetric, dilute, monodisperse, particle-laden, turbulent jet injected into a still environment, has been considered. The model treats the gas-phase from an Eulerian standpoint and the motion of particles from a Lagrangian one. Closure of the system of time averaged transport equations has been accomplished by using a Reynolds-stress turbulence model. The particles-fluid interaction has been considered by the PSI-Cell concept. Both the effect of interphase slip and the effect of particle dispersion have been taken into account. Results of the model have been compared with experimental data for axial and radial profiles of gas-phase mean and turbulent quantities and solid-phase mean velocity. Accuracy of model predictions of particle-laden free jet time averaged characteristics as well as turbulence correlation coefficients have been improved. The modelling of observed turbulence anisotropy levels and correlation coefficients need to be carried out with special care. The model has provided insight into the turbulence structure and aerodynamic characteristics of the particle-laden free jet. A brief sensitivity study has been performed as well, indicating that the specification of inlet boundary conditions exerts pronounced effects on predictions. In this paper, the study refers to the effect of the turbulence kinetic energy dissipation rate, while the other inlet boundary conditions have been applied with respect to the referent measurements.
