The safety of medicinal herbs used as herbal infusions was assessed, with a focus on the potential risk of heavy metal exposure. Samples of 14 selected herbs were purchased from green markets from region of Mt. Zlatar, Serbia, and the hazard index was calculated based on daily intake and content of Cd, Cr, Ni, Hg, and Pb. The study found that these herbal infusions are safe for use, as the hazard index values were below 1, indicating no adverse health effects. Therefore, it is crucial to purchase herbs from reputable sources and monitor their safety and quality to minimize potential health impacts. This study highlights the need for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the safety and quality of medicinal herbs used as herbal infusions to ensure their safe use and minimize potential health impacts.
