dc.description.abstract | Stripping extraction is broadly used for negative ion beam extraction from a cyclotron. During extraction, negative ions travel only through the pole edge magnetic field gradient. In addition to the pole edge region, positive ions, after stripping, can also pass more than once through regions of large sector edge magnetic field gradients. The ions are specified as positive or negative according to their sign during acceleration. Influence of the magnetic field gradients on the trajectory and envelopes of a stripped positive ion beam is shown. The consequences on the design of the stripping extraction system of a cyclotron are discussed. | en |
