Emerging issues triggered by rapid industrialization and technological development demand productive green solutions for water and ecosystem preservation. Zero-dimensional (0D) carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) with ultra-small size, outstanding characteristics, and antibacterial effect have shown tremendous potential as photocatalysts in water purification treatment as adsorbents, ion detectors, and/or in remediation of hazardous pollutants. This chapter aims to highlight a few 0D CNMs with unique features acquired for selective photocatalytic processes. An emphasis would be given to the impact of the physical and chemical properties of different CNMs on the removal efficiency of organic pollutants from water media. Furthermore, under a broad spectrum of light, the photoactivity of selected CNMs in the form of nanoparticles or membrane/composite systems will be prioritized. Finally, the readership will be introduced to the benefits and limitations of 0D carbon–based nanomaterials’ potential... application on an industrial scale.
