AB - Endohedral fullerenes (EF) A@C60 (atom A is confined inside of the carbon
fullerene C60) have attracted much attention of investigators in recent years not
merely as new, fascinating subjects for studies, but because of an industrial interest
in these objects as well. The spectroscopy of the EA is turning into a promising
area of new exciting investigations. Because of that, detailed knowledge of the
modifications in the structure and photo-spectra of the EA is extremely important.
In this paper are presented some simple models for the theoretical investigations of
the photoionization (PI) of the EA and some corresponding results of calculations.

photoionization (PI) cross section (c.s.). The effect of the fullerene shell upon PI of the
caged atom in an EA can result in formation of giant endohedral resonances (GER). In

(as a pointed in recently published paper [1]).The two factors have influence in
obtaining the c.s.: the strong fullerene polarization (under the action of the incoming
electromagnetic (e.m.) wave ) and oscillation of this c.s. (due to the reflection of the
photoelectron from Xe by the ). Atomic system of units is used.

AB - We investigated the low energy satellites in the Rontgen spectra using the many-particle theory. These satellites are results of the radiative semi-Auger decay of the inner vacancy states. We did not treat only ordinary radiative decay. There exist the excitations of one of the atomic electrons together with the photon emission. We presented results of radiative semi-Auger decays of vacancy states in Ar atom. The knowledge of these processes is important for understanding the same processes in the case of the nanoparticles (molecules, fullerenes, clusters). Research in the field of the new materials requires more sophisticating methods which will open the new possibilities for obtaining materials of particular design, too. The theory which is presented in the paper may be easily generalized in case of particles like fullerenes and clusters.

AB - In this paper we investigated characteristics of the fullerene which are connected with the photoionization process. We calculated the photoionization cross section (PCS) and demonstrated that the giant plasmon resonance in the photoionization spectrum of is much stronger and narrower that for . There is a slight shift of the position of that resonance in spectrum. We obtained that the giant resonance in the photoionization cross section for arises due to the correlations between transition from + C60 + C60 C60 + C60 + C60 σ - orbitals. Our calculations are based on the consistent many-body theory accounting for many-electron correlations ( the Random Phase Approximation-RPA).We have used a simple self-consistent spherical jellium model to treat the delocalized electron structure of the fullerenes. Our improved RPA (ImRPA) calculations are in agreement with earlier calculations.

Low energy electrons are taken as slow enough to excite a giant dipole collective resonance within the cluster. The calculations are more refined than the earlier ones - they do not depend on the experimental data, and we improved RPAE calculation of the collective resonance in the cluster. The results are interesting for the nano-region and designing of new materials.

AB - Using the Glauber model of linear phase insensitive amplifier as the basis, we establish a general condition which must be obeyed by every operator referred to the quantum phase. We demonstrate that this condition defines a class of acceptable Hermitian quantum phase operators, and that an additional physical requirement leads to the unique quantum phase operator. It turns out that this is the same operator which for the first time has been suggested by H. Paul [Fortschr. Phys. 22, 657 (1974)] and has been widely discussed in the literature. [S0031-9007(98)06802-1].

AB - We establish a general condition which must be obeyed by every operator referred to the quantum phase. This condition is derived on the basis of the model of the linear phase insensitive amplifier, proposed by Glauber. We demonstrate that the phase operators, most frequently discussed in literature, do not satisfy this condition, and that no Hermitian phase operator can satisfy this condition. We also show by explicit construction that this condition singles out one particular probability operator measure as the only candidate for the correct definition of the phase distribution of the quantum states. AB - Ab initio calculation of negative ions is made, and electron affinity energies, phase shifts and momentum transfer cross sections for electron-atom scattering are obtained using the techniques of many-body Greens functions. The basic processes treated here are the slow electron-alkaline earth atom scattering and the electron-noble gas atom scattering. Scattering data are obtained and negative ion calculations are made by solving the Dyson equation.
